Sounds like the brush isn't blending the powder very well.

I'm fond of the Real Techniques blush brush. It picks up a good amount of products and lays it down evenly. My issue with this guy is that he doesn't blend as well as some others because he's pretty soft so I found myself applying the blush and then reaching for another to finish the job. But if you're light handed to begin with, he's a cool little dude.

Sephora's Full Coverage Airbrush is my favorite right now for blush. I originally got him for blending out my bb cream but I like him a lot better with powder than liquid. It blends powders out so nicely. My only issue is that he's surprisingly small. I wish the handle were longer.

I just got these brandless brushes off Amazon on Saturday. So far the angled kabuki is really nice for blending powders as well. I like it almost as much as the Sephora one to be honest. The only reason why it falls a little behind is I prefer the slimmer shape of Sephora's a bit more.

Another Sephora brush is their Pro Visionary Face Blender. The shape is pretty funky but the curve of it hugs your face. I like this, but I prefer to use it for contour more than blush. I'm just adding it in as an option because the thinness of it lets you get pretty precise placement of the powder which is useful.

Hello all, in a previous post made yesterday, I had replied with a picture of a drawer of my Alex 9 unit and received a few of inquiries about how I made my drawer organizers. So, I decided to try my best to tell you how I did it. I apologize I wasn't able to make a complete step by step with a ton of photos, but this process was done over a year ago, and I wasn't really planning on doing it again since I finished!

Materials Needed:

Ruler

X-acto Knife

-I would recommend some extra blades as well-

--Foam Board (the more the merrier)--

Flathead Pins

--Contact Paper--

-The blades become dull fairly quickly, I think I used about four during the process-

--I was able to get a piece for $.99 at Michael’s on sale

---I decided to wrap each piece with contact paper because it makes it very easy to clean. In my actual vanity, I used fabric and it has gotten dirty and damaged and I 100% don't recommend it--

Template Materials:

Copy Paper or Grid Paper

Ruler

Actual makeup products

Steps:

  1. I first made templates for each drawer. I found using grid paper to design the setup made it very easy, each block was marked as an inch. Using the actual product dimensions I was easily able to map out what could possibly go in each location. It’s nice to know that the height of a standard sheet of copy paper is the width of the drawers! Also, to note, I made sure to give a little space on each side of the product to give it some wiggle room. (The dimension of each drawer is 11.5"x20.5")

  2. I then used normal copy paper to make a full-size map of each drawer. Then using that I transferred it onto the foam board. Measure twice and cut once.

  3. Using a straight edge, I was able to make cuts of each segment. It's easiest to first cut the width of the product and then afterwards cut the height of each compartment making sure they all have a uniform width and height.

  4. After each piece has been cut, I went ahead and wrapped every piece with white contact paper. Contact paper has a sticky back that easily allows it to adhere. Also, the back has its own grid so it was easy!

  5. Once each piece was ready to go ahead and assemble, I made a new template. This one was to make a uniform depth of each compartment (my smaller compacts all had about 3/4 of an inch between each and larger had about 1 inch) A B. This also made it very easy to ensure I had a perfect right angle.

  6. I decided to use flathead pins to connect everything together. I've seen previous YouTube tutorials that used hot glue, but that can be messy and difficult to work with. Also, if you ever need to redo something, you don't destroy what you had done. I used two pins on each side which really anchors the part. I will note, the tips of my index fingers went numb from doing this so much, but the feeling came back…eventually

  7. Enjoy!

    Some other things to note:

In my palette drawer, I created L shaped panels to allow for the palette to be better seen

I also purchased from byAlegory a liquid lipstick and lipstick organizers to build around

In my lipstick drawer, I purchased little glass beads to allow for the products to stand up better

My paper towel drawer has a holder which I created using a wooden dowel and clay

Also, I grabbed plastic liquid dispensers to easily get to my various liquids

Managed to slice my finger open making little lids of acrylic to hold all my disposable paper products

*Most of my other acrylic pieces have been purchased from MUJI

I hope you enjoyed my ~teal battlestation~, if you have any other questions about it feel free to ask. And I'm sorry if it was unclear at all. And, I'm 100% aware I have a stupid amount of makeup that I've gotten over the years as a makeup artist, Sephora employee, and a true Make Up Addict.

Wall of text incoming, along with the products that work for me. YMMV with individual products, of course!

All of these are just what I use, and all have alternatives that may work better for you and/or be cheaper. This has evolved over the past two years, I didn't just pick all this up at once and start throwing it on my skin - start slow, and see how your skin adjusts to each step for a week or so before moving onto another product.

I do my "skin routine" morning and evening, with some variations depending on how much time I have and what time of day it is.

First, hydration. Looks like you've taken care of that one! Water, water, and more water is what helped the most. I go through roughly 3L of water at work if not more, plus more once I get home.

Second, I never use foaming cleansers. I cut out anything with foams, and went with a two step cleansing process: first, oil cleansing (I use Banila Clean It Zero) to get rid of the bulk of my makeup. Then I follow with a cream cleanser (Guerlain Lait de Beauty, but there are MANY more affordable options out there).

Then I use a toner. But not the stripping, Sea Breeze type toner, a moisturizing one. Currently using HadaLabo Hyaluronic Lotion. Don't let the "acid" fool you - hyaluronic acid is extremely moisturizing.

Every 3-4 days in the evenings, I use a chemical exfoliator (NEVER physical, my skin can't take it) in the form of a BHA and AHA. BHAs remove gunk from pores, AHAs strip dead skin. Both mine are from cosrx:

https://sokoglam.com/products/cosrx-bha-blackhead-power-liquid

https://sokoglam.com/products/cosrx-aha-7-whitehead-power-liquid

Some people leave them for 20 minutes, I don't have the patience, I just go right into the next step and add a sheet mask. If you're new to actives, this will be too often - do them once a week, max.

Then the fun part - sheet masks. I looove sheet masks. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Anything with Hyaluronic acid is my go to. My Beauty Diary Hyaluronic Acid is a staple. I let that sink in while doing whatever around the house. I do one of these a few times a week, every night if I can.

Then I go onto moisturizing. I have a variety of serums, essences, and oils that I use depending on how dry my skin feels, but my basic routine goes:

If my skin is extra dry, I add in an extra moisturizing step here. I use Miss Flower and Mr Honey in summer, Scinic All in One honey ampoule in winter. Or sometimes I use Guerlain Face Treatment Oil.

If my skin is red, I add in CosRX Snail 96 to help control it.

Separate eye cream, ALWAYS. Right now I'm loving Clarins Super Restorative eye cream.

Then the big moisturizers:

History of Whoo Jinyul Essence

History of Whoo Jinyul Cream

Final step for day, sunscreen - Biore Watery Essence SPF50 for daytime. Skipped at night for obvious reasons.

For the night routine, before bed I apply one of these masks:

CosRX Honey Mask

CosRX Rice Mask

Guerlain Abeille Royale Honey Mask

These give extra moisture at night while you're sleeping.

Again, this is not something that happened overnight - I can almost guarantee if someone takes this list and throws it all at their face at once, they'll end up a mess. I added things slowly.

If I was going to recommend an order, I'd go with this:

  • If you're using a foaming cleanser, replace it with a cream cleanser the next time it runs out. No need to waste things.

    Wait a week.

  • Add a GENTLE AHA. This will help remove dead skin and reduce dryness. Just once a week, no more.
  • Add a Hyaluronic acid sheet mask, like the MBD one. It's affordable, and relaxing.

You could swap the above two if you have a lot of cleanser left.

    Wait a week.

Once you're used to those, add an essence. Something very moisturizing and rich.

    Wait a week.

Look at adding in a sleeping pack.

From there, pick what you'd like to address and add them in.

I know it's a lot to take in, so if you have specific questions about any of this, just ask.

Brushes:
I love love love these ones from Amazon. The quality is extremely good and comparable with expensive brushes. The variety is also absolutely perfect for a beginner. You get everything you need for an eye look and more.

Palette:
For beginners, I find either the Too Faced Chocolate Bar or the Sweet Peach palette to be good. The color selection is standard and the pigmentation is pretty good. What I think makes them best for beginners is their blendability. The pigmentation and formula is just right to make them super easy to blend without completely blending away the color.

The Container store. I don't know what your budget is, but here's some great options:

Storage made specifically for make-up: https://www.containerstore.com/s/bath/makeup-organizers/12

Lipstick holder that holds 24 on sale: https://www.containerstore.com/s/bath/makeup-organizers/luxe-acrylic-24-section-lipstick-drawer-insert/12d?productId=110061

Another lipstick storage option: https://www.containerstore.com/s/bath/makeup-organizers/24-lipstick-acrylic-organizer/12d?productId=10009899

This might be more ideal for lipstick storage as it's more space saving and each one holds 64: Ikee Design Premium Acrylic Rotating Cosmetic 64 Lipsticks Tower Organizer with Removable Dividers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019EMNVXM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ELzyzbY0YD8KE

I don't know what her eye palette situation is, but I feel like those are harder to store in a space saving way where you still have easy access. This is a good option: byAlegory Acrylic Palette Organizer, Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015IHU77U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mMzyzbD39MJ20

Also a nice storage option for various products: byAlegory Tiered Compact Makeup Organizer | 9 Spaces, 3 Tiers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MR67YNR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_KNzyzbXZWGBSZ

Hopefully you can get some ideas out of these! Good luck!

This is probably something you wouldn't have considered before, but I am a big fan of my Korean BB creams (they are vastly different than American BBs or shall I say orange greasy tinted moisturiser posers!) I like that they are like a flexible foundation and that the coverage is very adjustable if you use a damp beauty blender. Here is my album of just some of the BBs I've tried, but looking at you, I think you might like the feel of Missha Perfect Cover in #13. It works for very light skin tones like yours, it's neutral, and I found it does a great job concealing redness. Also it doesn't appear cakey because it's more moisturising than a plain foundation. You can see this blog post comparing different ones on a paler skintone than mine and see how they look. Since you can find a travel size on Amazon for $8, it's worth a shot :)

I appreciate all women who commit to their shoes. I am the type who will keep their shoes on the entire time their out but will also accept if someone offers me a piggy back ride to the car.

I use mac cork as my eyebrow color and my casual every day crease color all the time. The mac naked essential palette has a color I use too. Pencils look better using the same tip to top method but I just can't make pencil look good on me so I stay with powder then gel.

On the contouring I'm happy to say I've also had that issue and I've figured it out I use a flat top kabuki brush to make very solid thin lines with the side of the brush then use the flat top part to buff it out. I bought these on a whim before christmas and they actually are pretty solid and a good choice. I have to condition them after washing but it worth the extra work for how well they work/the price

You don't absolutely need to have brushes, they just greatly help over your finger. Try either a small set like this Ecotools one, which you can find at most Walgreens/Walmart/Kmart/etc. Alternatively, elf has many $1 and $3 eyeshadow brushes, some of which are excellent.

From elf, I would recommend the eyeshadow, blending, crease, and smudge (smudge brush not sponge!) brushes of their $1 Essential line, and the eyeshadow "C", small angled, contour, angled contour and flawless concealer brushes of their $3 Studio line.

Second, the main thing that you're going to need to do to make eyeshadow (applies to all makeup really) is:

  • practice
  • learn what color schemes you like mixed together
  • watch youtube videos
  • browse on here and its imgur site
  • pay attention to what other people are doing if you like what they've done
  • find out if you like certain eyeshadows applied wet or dry
  • invest in a cheap primer that works for you. This will help your eyeshadow adhere to your lid much better.
  • if you use brushes, make sure they're clean first

Learn how much pressure you need to use to build color: start lightly at first, you can always add more. The "c" shaped eyeshadow brushes are great for patting color on. You want to use the blending/contouring ones in a windshield-wiping motion to blend across things like your crease or blend out a color line, so that it doesn't look harsh.

It will all look very weird and harsh on you at first. That because you're not used to seeing yourself with that appearance. I know it's a lot to start with, but these are things that I wish I had known to ask in retrospect. I hope this helped, rather than overwhelmed you. Good luck and have fun playing around with it!

Skinfood . Every now and then if I rush and use too much, then find myself in a really humid environment - it'll crease a little but it's easy to fix with a finger or q-tip. I'm curious to see how it would behave differently with eyeshadow base under it - it's occurred to me but I just haven't tried it because I'm generally pretty satisfied with it. I never set it with powder, either, but I probably would if I used any, hah. Anyways, I like how it doesn't look muddy or painty, but still covers really well. I find it looks better with time, too, like it settles itself out. As far as my skin/eyes go - I have thin Irish skin, so I get those creases a lot from smiling and having deep set eyes. The dark circles are bluey/purpley in some places and kind of green in others. Cute, right? It's also in between my eyes on the side of my nose, so I use it there too.

edit: plus it's cheap!

You have monolids and as stated by other redditors there's communities on reddit that specifically deal with that.

I find using Asian brands helps because likely they address such issues related to monolids. I keep peddling this product but Kiss Me Heroine Mascara is great for short Asian lashes. It's waterproof and really lengthens. I have cried, sweat, taken a shower, and even swam with this mascara and it does not budge. A waterproof eyeliner is also ideal and I like Dollywink eyeliner and Kiss Me Heroine eyeliner. When you're applying make sure it dries fully and you keep steady and try not to blink.

If you are willing to take a drastic step other people deal with their monolids by using eyelid tape or glue to create "double eyelids". I find it unnecessary because there are other makeup techniques that are specific to monolids. Good luck!

Congrats on the big step (of moving in together lol)! You're an awesome person for wanting to help your SO feel at home- and this is a really great way!

As for what you could add to the vanity, it really depends. Do you know what she has more of? If you know she has a large lipstick collection, something like this may help her organize that. Or, if she's a palette collector, this may be good for her.

I personally have a smaller collection, so having the makeup I use on a daily basis in this organizer has worked really well for me.

So all in all, there are definitely makeup organizers out there! Good luck :)

I have used at least 200 pairs combined of 1, 2, [3] (http://www.amazon.com/eyelash-Reusable-Eyelashes-Makeup-Cosmetic/dp/B00BTYOBLK/ref=sr_1_12?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1411619287&sr=1-12&keywords=eyelashes+false+10) and have at least 60 more in a box waiting! The first version is my most commonly used pair and the other two are for variety. I have been searching for a criss cross pair like the third with the lightness of the first, so have tried out a bunch of other randos on Amazon. I think the only terrible set were these drag babies

They take a little bit to get used, and you definitely need to trim. I prefer them for daily use because they are thinner, lighter, and work appropriate. I work in finance. No guilt or feeling bad for tossing after each use, but I have gotten a full 8 wears out of a pair when I was in lashless land once. Stacking is also great.

I definitely believe that Ardell, Red Cherry, MAC, etc are stronger, and fuller looking, but that's not what I want. I like the super lightweight feel and the natural wispy look, and the guilt free removal. Order away! Although, shipping is not super regular, I just order every so often when I get down to like, 30 pairs, and I know I'll have more on the way.

and if they suck its $2 down the drain. or you can do what I did and put them on my dog. He gets so confused about glamour but its glorious.

I was just dealing with dry skin issues myself and found a lot of good suggestions on /r/skincareaddiction.

Things that helped me (and now my foundation sits soooo much better on my face):

  1. light exfoliation with a wash cloth after I wash my face. Use a gentle, non foaming cleanser. I only exfoliate a couple times of week though.

  2. hydrating toner or serum applied onto a wet face (after washing). The Trader Joe’s hyaluronic acid serum is good at about $8. And the Hada Labo is also a HG for a lot of people. I just started using it a week ago, and it’s helping improve my skin too. Be sure to follow it with a moisturizer.

  3. I really love Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing lotion. The gel is good too but wasn’t hydrating enough for me.

  4. I use a hydrating primer like Too Faced’s Hangover primer before applying foundation.

  5. At night, I love the Cerave Healing Ointment for my lips. It’s better than any lip balm I’ve tried, and my liquid lipstick applies so much nicer the next day.

    Hope that helps!

I think it's worth a shot! I'm still trying to incorporate a sunscreen into my routine -- I've been so hesitant since my skin is not back to normal yet and I'm worried about causing another breakout. But I've been doing a lot of research on the matter and have heard good things about the Shiseido sunscreen. Another one that's recommended a lot for use under makeup is Eltamd. And finally, this one by Paula's Choice seems like a great option after reading this thread, especially since it adds a bit of coverage, too!

Also, if you're interested in a vitamin C serum, Paula's Choice products are pretty popular and well-liked. I wanted something a bit more affordable so I use Silk Naturals Super Serum and love it. I use it daily and I think it will last a few months. They also have fantastic customer service -- I received a handwritten note and a couple of free samples in my order!

u/MacNCheesyBeezy · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Cool sounds like you got it down! So maybe you can add like a BB cream, blush, and tinted balm to your routine. And possibly also get into natural eyeshadows with a light color on your lid and under your brow then a darker color blended into the crease. I highly recommend one of these Lamora Nudes palettes, because you get 16 great shadows for $12. They are super easy to use, blend well, and have good pigment with little fallout. Very good for a beginner. And for $9 you can get a complete eyeshadow brush set, so you would have a variety of tools.

  1. Hada Labo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist
  2. Tosowoong Propolis Sparkle Ampoule
  3. Hada Labo Gokujun Perfect Gel

All inspired by much research at /r/AsianBeauty!

    edit: oops, forgot my cleansers.

    PM:

  4. Remove makeup with Boots No7 Beautiful Skin Melting Gel Cleanser

  5. Cleanse again with Tosowoong Enzyme Powder Wash. This stuff is AMAZING. My experience is the same as Fifty Shades of Snail's so count her review as mine as well :)

  6. Moisturize using all 3 steps above

    AM:

  7. CosRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser
  8. Moisturizing using all 3 steps above
  9. Sunscreen after moisturizers have sunk in a bit (10-15 minutes) - Biore UV Perfect Milk SPF50+ PA++++

More than a specific brand, I'd say learning how to properly tightline has helped me the most. You don't want the liner to be over your lashes or on your waterline (more likely to cause smudging). The liner needs to be placed on the root of your lashes. Practice makes perfect!

If you're a fan of pencil, Rimmel Scandal Eyes is a popular choice.

Gel? Maybelline Eye Studio or Wet n Wild Mega Eyes.

I, personally, have yet to find a pencil or gel that didn't smudge on me (regardless of price), so I prefer liquid. Physician's Formula is a good drugstore option. I also love love LOVE Asian liners like Clio, Dolly Wink, and Kiss Me Heroine.

u/neurogeneticist · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

This is the brush I use. However, I may be in the minority in what I like in an eyebrow brush. The bristles are not very stiff, but I love this as it's very easy to get short, feathery, natural strokes! If I'm going for a bolder brow, I use a small Sonia Kashuk angled liner brush from the anniversary set that was out over the summer - it looks pretty similar to a SK brush someone posted earlier!

u/ProsimiansOnPluto · 8 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Headcovers.com usually has it. http://www.headcovers.com/12867/secure-hold-eyelash-glue-and-eyebrow-adhesive-by-cardani/

The other awesome thing is cheap eyelashes from Amazon, like 10 pairs for $2 kind of cheap. I buy style 0, they look the most like natural. If you wear glasses and find that lashes usually hit your lenses, these are the perfect length. The trick to putting on eyelashes without having your own is to anchor the outer third of the strip first. You hold onto the center of the strip with tweezers, lay the outer corner first, then let go of the strip completely (they shouldn't move) and grab the inner corner with your tweezers and slowly guide the rest of the strip onto your eyelid. If this doesn't make sense, let me know I'll be happy to make a video for you. With the secure hold glue, make sure you let it get a little tacky before applying. About thirty seconds should do it.

I'll start off : not exactly drugstore but cheaper than Sephora. I have my holy grail eyeliner and mascara so I'm never tempted to buy anything else at Sephora or drugstore. I'm at more than 15 repurchase for both of these are $10-11 per item

Kiss Me eyeliner

Kiss Me mascara

Look around Amazon for cheaper options (with slower shipping). I value no-smudge as most important for eye makeup. Staying power is second. With any other eye makeup, I have to constantly wipe under my eye from smudge/flake. With these two, I can confidently go all day without checking for smudge. Every time try new stuff, I end up coming back to these two. These are the only eyeliner/mascara that I've paid for for about 5-6 years. Others were obtained as samples/gifts only

Kat von D tattoo eyeliner has been comparable but didn't perform any better than kiss me eyeliner to justify paying more than double. Haven't tried stila eyeliner

I have yet to find mascara that will make me give up on kiss me (Marc Jacobs, UD, Nars, Bobbi Brown and countless others have failed). The only one I am interested in trying (and have no comparison for) would be better than sex

You look to be about as pale as I am! My favorite right now is MISSHA M Perfect Cover BB Cream (No.13 Bright Beige)- it goes on really well with a stippling brush or sponge. It still looks dewy hours after wearing it, feels pretty light, doesn't crease up weird, and can be layered so you often don't even need concealer (i have similar skin issues). Setting it with a setting spray or the famous Goss method(love this, duh) will keep whatever foundation you choose on all day.

I'm not really a big fan of any of the NYX foundations or concealers as they're too dark/yellow, and I've yet to find a drugstore foundation that isn't too yellow, but swatching never hurt anyone...

Tarte's "BB" primer is a little out of your price range but is nice if you feel like splurging. I always get matched with it when I go to sephora. You would need a concealer under it though, as it has lighter coverage.

I could do some swatches for you if you'd like! Just let me know!

u/FertyMerty · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

You can't go wrong with CoverGirl Clump Crusher. So good.

As for undereye - most people seem to favor NARS creamy radiant concealer or Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer. The former is thicker and more pigmented; the latter is thinner and has a dewier finish with slightly less coverage.

That said, to counteract the blues you have in your inner corner and undereye (which are honestly very slight! You're normal!), you could try careful application of a salmon corrector. I really love this one. Pretty sure NYX makes one too.

u/TwoNewfies · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Love your hair!
I'm older too, and have a fistful of concealers for my genetic dark circles. One thing that worked for me (where nothing else ever had) was Onomie: I bought the $4 sample, and thought it was another not so great concealer. I used it up because I was too cheap to throw it out. But then I noticed my eyes looking ... better.
So, I use Onomie and then NYX yellow color corrector, or this product I found on /r/asianbeauty. Tarte, Shishedo, Amazing Concealer, Benefit, all settle into the wrinkles. Definitely agree that a very light dust of powder helps.

u/deadshotdaxuri · 24 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Thank you!!

I don't have like set brushes but I ordered a set off of amazon they're called qivange they work great for the price!

My one staple brush is the Sigma e40 I've had this brush for like 7 years and it's by far the most amazing blending brush I've ever had.

u/terberter6669 · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

THESE! By Ecotools! It is the perfect eye set. The Crease brush works as a totally decent blending brush, which is a super big must-have.

They also sell this little set that I also own and adore. I mostly only use the buffing brush from bronzer and the powder brush for blush! Liquid foundation can be applied pretty well with just fingertips, unless you're like me and you've got calluses. Icky pooey.

u/anthropomorphisis · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

The Lorac Skinny is only 15 on amazon. It's pretty awesome and has earthy colors. It's also got a great price point if you can't splurge on the pro.

Also, I feel like a broken record here but wet n wild lipsticks are great an 2.00 a piece and you can buy a bunch of them! Also, their Fergie eyeshadow primer I've heard is great but can't attest to that myself.

It is so hard to find a good sunscreen when you have dry skin. Most "oil free" stuff is so uncomfortable...but the alternatives can make your makeup melt right off.

  • I am currently using this over my cerave with no troubles at all.

  • I used this stuff a couple of times and it performed well.

  • I tried a sample of this stuff and I found it really comfortable on my dry/sensitive skin.

  • This stuff works pretty well. I used an entire bottle before buying the Shiseido stuff. I liked it well enough that I've got a bottle waiting for me when I finish my current sunscreen (it was on sale at Ulta!)

I also have some that I have been looking at, which might be worth considering for you too:

  • This stuff, even though it doesnt have a high spf.

  • This stuff came highly recommended.

  • A lot of folks swear by this one as well.

Sorry for the spam! Hopefully this was helpful!

Here is a post on hyperpigmentation and how to fade it. For all the things I'm about to recommend, wear sunscreen with them! Other than niacinamide, everything here will make your skin more sensitive to the sun.

For over the counter products my favorites are:

St. Ives Exfoliating Pads - a very gentle lactic acid wipe

MUAC 40% lactic acid peel - a really good starter peel. If you've never done chemical peels before, you should start with something more gentle (like the St. Ives pads) to get your skin used to AHAs

Elta MD UV Clear SPF 46 Sunscreen - prevents dark spots from getting darker, and has 5% niacinamide to help fade them

Garden of Wisdom Niacinamide Powder - I bought this but haven't used it yet, actually. It needs to be dissolved in distilled water, and you can mix it with glycerin or aloe to make a DIY niacinamide serum.

If a doctor's visit isn't a huge financial burden for you, prescription retinoids like Retin-A (called tretinoin in generic form) or Tazorac are the gold standard for fading hyperpigmentation. They cause your skin to turn over really quickly, so dryness, redness and irritation are frequent side effects. Skinacea has great info on how to minimize the side effects by starting to use them gradually.

Edit:

Here's a before and after (separated by a couple of months) after using said products - Tazorac/St. Ives Pads/sunscreen daily and chemical peel weekly.

Does your vanity have a built in mirror? If not, Amazon Prime has lots of mirrors with LED lights already on them. They range from like $20+ and all have pretty good reviews!
I've been considering this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B9QUDZG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_mlHOybKHX2WDJ
($29.99)

It is a little more than I wanted to spend but I'm starting my vanity from scratch so I'm gonna need to buy a mirror and lights anyway, this seemed like the best deal in that sense.

But like someone else said, if you already have a mirror these strips are pretty cheap! Plus they're a lot more space-efficient than a lamp!

Yay! I’m glad to hear that.

I use Cerave! But when my skin was super dry/dehydrated I started also using Hada Labo Hyaluronic Acid lotion and it saved my skin and made it more normal than dry. If you’re interested, you can buy it on Amazon and should use it after you cleanse while your face is still a little wet. Then let it soak in - no rinsing required! Follow with moisturizer. I have two RealTechniques brush sets: RT Core Collection and the RT Starter Set. I've been pretty happy with all of the brushes and I know they're pretty well liked. In addition to those, I use the Urban Decay shadow/blending brush and I have the Bespoke Brush Set from amazon that I use almost every day. I am by no means a pro, but I've been pretty happy with mine so far.

RAVE: I just recently switched over to Korean BB creams and have seen a noticeable difference in how good they are for my skin! I bought and am testing three:

  • Missha Perfect Cover BB - May be my new HG. My skin feels so nice wearing this, and it stays on perfectly all day. I wore it yesterday and ended up on a spontaneous hike after breakfast and my skin still looked nice!
  • SKIN79 Super+ Beblesh Balm Pretty much the only thing I am wearing today, and so far... so good!
  • Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB Cream - Actually still waiting on this one, but am excited to see if it is more bouncy/dewy than the other two.

I am really pumped all three of these (even the one I haven't tried). I have sensitive, fair, combo skin, and have always hated makeup that was too heavy for me. I think I may have solved my problem! AND they are cheap. So awesome.

I love my Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream in No.13 Bright Beige. I'm NW10, and it fits my shade perfectly. My skin is slightly oily and sensitive. It's got decent coverage for a BB cream, and is very liquidy. It goes on satin and dries matte on my face. And for ~$10, it's hard to beat!

It sounds like we're a similar colour. I use this stuff for light-medium coverage http://www.amazon.com/MISSHA-Perfect-Cover-Cream-Milky/dp/B003HYPVM8 It looks dark in the amazon photos but I assure you shade number 13 it's wonderfully pale. have a look at it and see if it sounds good to you np.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddicts/comments/233jnt/review_missha_m_perfect_cover_bb_cream_no_13/? http://skinandtonics.com/missha-perfect-cover-bb-cream-review/

ByAllegory has compact and single eyeshadow holders and they’ve come so in handy! They’re on amazon and have their own website as well. They also have lipgloss organizers which are perfect for liquid lipsticks and lipglosses that would fall over in regular lipstick organizers.
I also recommend getting your lipstick organizers at the container store because they’re cheaper they’re only $6. They also have little single containers they’re perfect for storing things like concealers, mascaras, eyeliners - I have 3 of the small ones for concealers, mascaras, nail polish (i have only 4 nail polishes) and then 1 larger one for lip liners cause they tend to be longer in length.

u/jollytsunami · 41 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I missed my chance to use that! Lol. Thank you!! I bought a set off Amazon actually and they're super soft! Here's the link for them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LY8ICR6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lfZvDbE3JRWGE
I use these brushes mixed with some from palettes I bought or a random Real Techniques brush. ☺

Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer! It smells like mouthwash but is wayyy better than my UD sprays. I used it on my wedding day and, despite the heat, crying, etc., my makeup looked great at the end of the night!

u/cest_la_vie · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

MARIO BADESCU! Seriously. They have a consultant service and they can recommend products via email. They have a buffering lotion that is for spot treatment of cystic pimples. For other kinds of pimples, they have the drying lotion. Honestly, I think washing your face with some gentle cleansers and moisturizing! Which sounds ridiculous. Olive oil or jojoba oil at night. The more you moisturize your skin, the less your skin will need to produce it. As for your pores, I think using a toner like alcohol free witch hazel amazon it and doing bi weekly acid peels amazon again will help clear up and reduce the appearance of your pores. Just start researching products. Try a regimen and stick with it for a while.

How important having the right brush is for success with ABH Dipbrow!

I tried it a few times with a small-ish eyeshadow/lip brush and kept looking like I'd drawn them on with a sharpie.

Once I bit the bullet and got an eyebrow-specific brush (small angle brush on one end, spoolie on the other) my brow game was forever changed.

Doesn't have to be expensive either, I got this one on Amazon and it works great!

Thanks! It took the most self-restraint to not scratch my nose with this on. XD I didn't really try to make it last/not smear because it was late at night, otherwise I would have used a setting spray. I hear Ben Nye has a really great setting spray. I know Ben Nye for special effects makeup, so I would expect that it'd work well for facepaint. Though I already have UD All Nighter so I really should have tried that. It probably would be the same. :)

Most Asian makeup brands formulate sunscreens designed for oily skin and hot, humid weather. Their formulas tend to be light and won't cause your skin to get greasy.

I suggest checking out Shiseido, DHC, Sofina, Kanebo, among other brands. You can usually find them for OK prices on eBay.

You might also consider a physical-only sunscreen (one that only contains zinc and/or titianium dioxide). The minerals help soak up oil. Elta makes a pretty good one (no obvious white cast) for a reasonable price.

u/oatmeal_pie · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

A thinner brush may do the trick. A liquid liner also makes for more even lines. My favorite is actually a Japanese brand, KissMe Heroine Make Eyeliner. The bristles are flat and tapered so that you can make very fine, precise lines. Stila Stay All Day is also very popular on this sub. It has a felt tip applicator.

u/viivalo · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

My favorite brand for facepainting is TAG Body Paints, you can get the individual pots of color and they have some beautiful blues.

Since it is water activated, it will start coming off if you begin to sweat. I use a sealant instead of water to activate the paint (it's my tried and true method). [Ben Nye Final Seal] (https://www.amazon.ca/Final-Seal-Matte-Makeup-Sealer/dp/B005MZ4A7C) is my go to. It's a little bit pricey but it's definitely worth it to make everything fade proof. Then I set everything with a translucent powder.

To remove, baby oil is where its at.

u/neekowmoo · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I have really acne prone skin also and have found that The Face Shop Rice Cleaning Oil works really well for me! I go in and double cleanse afterwards with my CosRX Good Morning Gel cleanser. Another oil cleanser that didn't break me out is The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil, this was actually my first cleansing oil I ever used. It works really well but I prefer the first one I mentioned just cause it's a lot cheaper hehe.

To answer your last question, it is definitely something you should worry about. I have tried a couple cleansing oils while still double cleansing after, and was able to tell that some specific cleansing oils were breaking me out.

My favorite is the lorac skinny nude palette! I've traveled with it a few times already and it was very versatile for me in creating something very muted and light to something smoky/shimmery. It has three matte shades (light, medium, dark) and 4 beautiful shimmers. Here is Temptalia's review with swatches and Amazon has it in stock right now here

u/smileykatftb · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I use Japanese liquid eyeliners; a lot of them go on smooth and have fine brush tips.
Here's one very popular in Asia that I have been using for two years because I have monolids and my eyeliner tends to smudge at the outer corners but this one doesn't: KissMe Smooth Liquid Eyeliner Plus, it's very similar to the KVD tattoo eyeliner but costs waaay less.
And this is a list of recommended Japanese eyeliners I found online:https://tokyobeautybook.com/2016/09/09/5-of-the-best-japanese-drugstore-liquid-liners/ All of the listed eyeliners sell well in Japan, and my mom uses the Mote eyeliner and she likes it very much.

> I'm just confused as to why it's mostly happening on one side of my face

It could be a number of reasons. Do you sleep on that side? Or it could be an area that you USED to use actives on. I've noticed that my chin seems to show dehydration first, but I think that's cause I always broke out on my chin and used to apply benzoyl peroxide like it was my job haha.

I'd check out this post: https://np.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/68lq2o/review_my_first_haul_for_dehydrated_sensitive/?st=j29ap4v7&sh=107750a6

https://np.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/4gltx6/newbies_why_your_first_haul_should_only_have_four/?st=j23lo48x&sh=ae796877

I'd pay special attention to when users talk about repairing their moisture barrier. For me, the biggest difference has been adding in a low pH cleanser to my routine and following up with a hydrating toner. I use the Hada Labo Hylauronic Acid toner and apply 3 light layers each night. This toner is great because it helps with lack of water (dehydration) instead of lack of oil (dry).

u/Aniew · 15 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

There's something exciting about seeing improvement!

I have combination skin that gets oil through the day but also has dry patches, especially on my forehead.

My skincare routine is cleansing every night with [Paula's Choice Cleanser] (http://www.paulaschoice.com/shop/skin-care-categories/cleansers/_/Skin-Balancing-Oil-Reducing-Cleanser/), afterward once I week I use the Paula's Choice 4% BHA foam as a chemical exfoliator, and the last step is Cerave Moisturizing Cream. I also use Elta MD Sunscreen under my makeup on days where I'm going to be outside for more than a few minutes.

My skin's not perfect but it's a lot better and using /r/skincareaddiction helped me tremendously in getting a basic understanding of skincare and finding a routine that I feel works well for me.

u/whythehecknot · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I was eyeing some Muji drawers, but I opted for 2 of these instead. I like to store my foundations standing up and the open top part of this lets me do that. I have one for lip products and one for foundation/concealer/highlighter/bronzer.

I'll also second the byAlegory lip gloss organizer. I like to store lip gloss upright, too, and they kept flopping over in regular lipstick organizers.

I made a post a couple of days ago talking about this $10 Frola Cosmetics powder Contour palette (which has since become a $6.50 add on item... Amazon, you so silly), and promised a more high quality post of how I use it, so here we are! I tried my best to give breakdowns of exactly how I use each color in the description of the imgur album, but if I've left anything unclear or you have any specific questions feel free to ask! I also did My contouring and highlighting slightly more heavily than usual so hopefully you can see what I'm talking about more easily.

Here's a product list of everything I used:

  • YSL Touche Eclat Foundation in BD10
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15
  • NARS Loose Light Reflecting Powder to set the center of my face
  • MAC Redhead Brow Fluidline Gelcreme
  • Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara
  • Frola Cosmetics Contour Palette in shade 01
  • Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch and Elta MD are both great choices. From my experience, the Elta MD one completely absorbs and doesn't feel greasy at ALL. The Neutrogena one feels slightly greasier to me, but it's not like normal sunscreen greasy or anything. I tend to use the Neutrogena one more often because I can stand the smell of it more than the Elta MD, but I have a very sensitive nose, so that's probably just me. They're both great.

It's generally a good idea to use matte eyeshadow on the part of the lid that is not visible when the eyes are open if you have monolids. I'd recommend Sleek i-Divine Ultra Mattes Vol 2 Darks palette. It is very pigmented and blendable and is only $9.49 (with no minimum shipping) [on Amazon] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AKB7N4U/ref=sr_ph_1?qid=1453959677&sr=sr-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=sleek+palette+matte). While Vol 1 brights is better than average drugstore matte shadows it still has issues with pigmentation and blendability.

I picked up some Hada Labo Hyaluronic Acid lotion when I was in Asia and I love it! I pat three drops' worth all over my face and neck before I apply my daily moisturizer. It's done wonders for my dry patches.

u/nursekitteh · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Not huge in size, but Sleek has a couple of all matte palettes that are colorful. I own V2, found here, and I like it. Some neutrals and colors. If you want brighter colors, they also have V1.

Edit: words are hard.

u/cutelittlebroccoli · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I use this one and it's awesome! It has LEDs so it's really bright, but not the best if you're trying to mimic natural light. Also it's battery powered if you need to take it to go!

u/Teh_Squishy · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Do you have prime? $22 for a duo pack. I think it's legit, just got mine and daammnn is it soft! Im in love!

The absolute best brushes I've ever used in my life are these Bestope face brushes from Amazon. They're a set of 8 for $8, and they're the softest things ever. They're the perfect density, and I've had them for a year and there's been no shedding or any problems. I reach for these more than my Sephora brushes!

u/jaburke · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I have two angled brushes: The one I have amongst my other eye brushes is from Sephora that I got in this set though of course you can buy it individually. It's a good angle brush but I dedicate it solely to eyeshadow. The one I actually use for my brows is the Ardell Duo Brow Brush. The angle brush on this one probably isn't as firm as my Sephora brush but for the price it gets the job done. I bought it because of the price, particularly because it has the spoolie end and I was too cheap to buy the Anastasia version of this brush for $18 lol

u/candycanecupcakes · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

They don't sell at Sephora - idk about Ulta but probably not.

The brand is geared toward theatrical makeup - really good high quality. A lot of brides use Final Seal to keep their makeup on all day etc.

Final Seal

Stage Makeup Set

Foundation Wheel

u/nikkithebee · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Highly recommend Ben Nye Final Seal. It's actually made for setting stage makeup where the actors are heavily makeup'd and under very bright lights. I swear by the stuff!

Fair warning: it's heckin minty. Like, make you wince peppermint in your eyes fresh to death. So do your mascara AFTER you set everything else.

u/sloan_h · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I really love this Skinfood in Bloom Skinfood ($7) for a creamy concealer, and for a thicker one for sleepless days, I use the Pixi Correction Concentrate in peach Pixi ($12).

u/flying_doughnut · 5 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I would recommend one of the Sleek Palettes:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AKB7N4U/ref=gno_cart_title_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2VJ5ISFGB5TF7

They're very good quality, especially for the price, and although they're not sold in the US, amazon has them.

As for brushes, you'll probably hear Real Techniques as a good brand to try that aren't too expensive. I've never tried them, but I've felt them before when I was at my neighborhood Ulta, and they're soft!

u/butternutsquashsoup · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I use this Ardell brush with an angled brush end and a spoolie and it works great!

u/petitfolieadeux · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I use The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Oil to remove makeup, then I follow with Bioderma Micellar water to make sure everything's off.

u/MerryKerry · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Yep, they do have neutral-only options - here's their palettes page. There's the Unzipped, Pro to go, Pocket Pro, the Skinny Nude on Amazon, and also some new smaller palettes for the holidays on IG and YouTube.

u/elegiacally · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

http://www.amazon.com/LORAC-Skinny-Palette-Nude/dp/B00KYJDWDY

15 usd with free shipping and mascara! LORAC has a really good reputation for its palettes, but I've only heard of them recently because we don't get this brand in Singapore. This one is often in and out of stock, so grab it while it lasts!

EDIT: Has a mix of matte and shimmery shades though!

u/hermi0ne · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KYJDWDY?pc_redir=1414610979&robot_redir=1

From what I can tell, this palette originally was sold at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and was sold out in 24 hours. For some reason Amazon is now stocking it! I got three: one for me and two for friends as Christmas presents.

u/-Ketracel-White · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Don't know if the exact same brush you're talking about is included, but I have been SO impressed with the Ecotools eye set (this one here, for the curious). Blending time = cut in half.

u/zenzizenzizenzike · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I have three of those racks for my collection. They do NOT work well for long lipsticks, especially round ones.

I find that my lip glosses and rollerball perfumes are best stored in these extra tall acrylic organizers.

u/hashlinglingslasher · 10 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Ask the seller to issue a refund. If the seller doesn't respond within a few days, open a dispute with eBay.

I think they have brushes similar to the Zoeva complete eye set on amazon if you're interested :)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LY8ICR6/ref=twister_B01M7YSHDW?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

u/hihotintin · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I know they are taller, not sure about slimmer. Here is one on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Acrylic-Gloss-Organizer-Beauty-Care/dp/B00IM0FSCA and in the review section some people posted their own photos which should give you an idea :)

u/kiribyi · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I tend to avoid eye makeup when I have lash extensions. But if I do use eyeliner, I buy an eyeliner that can be removed with hot/warm water. This is the one I've used previously: https://www.amazon.com/KissMe-Smooth-Liquid-Eyeliner-Black/dp/B005F751WK/ref=pd_sim_194_6?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B005F751WK&pd_rd_r=Y4007VTBW8HW57CTTM2X&pd_rd_w=QRayT&pd_rd_wg=Cm0Ez&psc=1&refRID=Y4007VTBW8HW57CTTM2X

I've never heard of microbrushes! But I'm assuming the large size is best in order to mimic the same effect as a q-tip more or less

u/QueenKiki · 7 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

this is such a good idea!! i found this palette organizer on amazon that i've been waiting to re-stock, but actually now i think i'm going to copy your idea!

u/Mingly · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Alegory makes some really good acrylic storages.

For long tube lipsticks: x

For bullet lipsticks: x

u/PackedSatisfaction · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Yeah I think that's the same one I have, I use this one I got on Amazon.

u/kdia2055 · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

If you buy it on amazon you can get two for the price of one!

see?

u/lhpeanut46 · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

you can also get it at walgreens online

or amazon (These have good reviews but I'm not 100% on their authenticity.)

u/SpaceTortoise · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

You can buy two for the price of one on amazon

And they are the original ones.

u/screambledeggs · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Kind of the wrong subreddit to post this, would be better suited for /r/asianbeauty or /r/koreanbeauty.

I use the Hada Labo Hyaluronic Lotion (or any moisturizing toner) with peelable cotton puffs or a compressed facial sheet.

u/daisyismydog · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I haven't ordered from Sleek myself, but I know someone who ordered a "restricted" palette within the last month and received it. You could also order it off Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Sleek-Makeup-i-Divine-Mattes-Palette/dp/B00AKB7N4U/

u/MissHillyG · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I think Ardell makes one! It's an angled brush on one end and a spoolie on the other end. You can find it on Amazon!
I'll try to link it.
I am not sure how comparable it is to the ABH one.

EDIT: Ardell Duo Brow Brush

Not sure if you have Amazon prime but you can get it there for $13.90 shipped! That's where I got mine (fellow #13 dry skinned girl checking in)! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003HYPVM8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_7M.9wb5CB3NW7

I live in Houston... I think the best thing for the summer here is Ben Nye's final seal setting spray link. It has made a world of difference for me. That shit is practically waterproof.

I would try the same makeup you use now plus this spray over it

u/gooberfaced · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Just get a regular old fashioned plug in makeup mirror like so. Or like this..
Anything of a decent brand will do fine-
I don't know how old the one I am using actually is but I know it was old when I moved back in 1983, so it's at least 36 years old and I use it every day.

u/ms_kittyfantastico · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Witch hazel

The actual glycerin I have is from Garden of Wisdom, but it should all be the same (NOW Foods on Amazon)

u/hell0potato · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

There is tons of info on oils in the skincare subreddit, but I think any oil would do. Personally, I use this and love it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00809ERAM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

u/jokeaboutjamaica · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I was just looking at one that is very similar! Being cordless is a big plus, but would you say it runs through batteries quickly?

It seems that the ones I got aren’t available but these look the exact same!

u/fathippos · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but you can try the lorac skinny pro. It fits in your budget and it's a neutral eyeshadow palette.

u/chaethomia · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I would avoid buying any off-brand brushes, especially from eBay. You never know what you're getting.

My top recommendations for beginner brush sets are either the ELF Studio set (this was what I started with and it served me well), the Real Techniques Core Collection plus Starter Set, or the Ecotools Eye Set plus Mineral Set.

u/cat_with_giant_boobs · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I bought this set and I've had no issues with any of the brushes.

I know they're not handcrafted Japanese quality, but for the price I do think they're really decent. I will not pay anymore for a brush set until the need presents itself and I know exactly what I'm looking for and can justify the price.

u/boobs_and_brains · 7 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Skinfood's Salmon Dark Circle Skin Corrector! I've never tried the Bobbi Brown but I've heard this is a good dupe. I use it and find it works really well!

u/hydragnb · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Awww man! I've been using one (this one to be exact) for several months now, and I haven't noticed that much of a difference in pores and only a slight difference in redness. :/

u/wucylen · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I started wearing falsies everyday since maybe february and haven't looked back! I buy these in bulk

http://www.amazon.com/Pairs-Handmade-Natural-False-Eyelashes/dp/B006GKHIHQ/ref=pd_bia_nav_t_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1ETSKR6PY14E61NH07E9

I can use a pair for up to 2 weeks if I'm careful/don't get drunk and ruin them. They are so natural looking no one ever suspects a thing ;) I usually have to cut the ends a bit cause they're too long for my eye length, plus it's more natural looking if they don't span across your entire eye from corner to corner. Let me know if you want me to post a picture of me wearing them or anything :)

u/Kimandmakeup · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

My favorite is the #7 Anastasia too!! (aka 7b on Ulta) but I've heard the Ardell duo brow brush is a dupe.
