I put together a black eye with shimmery teal, just to practice the look for an upcoming event. I took pictures along the way because I might as well make a walkthrough for you guys. :)

Forgive the occasional pink lighting. I have a grow light next to me for my succulents and didn't realize it showed up in the photos.

Product list:

Skin:

Missha BB Cream, No. 13 Milky Beige.

Graftobian Light Corrector Wheel.

Tony Moly Cats Wink powder, Clear.

Eyes:

Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (a clear glitter glue)

W7 In The Nude eyeshadow palette, lightest shade on the far left.

Wet N Wild Comfort Zone eyeshadow palette, duochrome shade.

NYX Primal Colors, Hot Black.

Wet N Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Eyeshadow, Cosmic Teal.

Ulta Amped Lashes mascara, Jet Black.

L'Oreal Paris Infallible 24HR Lacquer Intense Gel Eyeliner (oof what a long name), Blackest Black.

Brushes:

Coastal Scents Classic Shadow Brush, small natural. (I have like a million of these inexpensive little brushes for detail work so I don't have to clean between colors.)

A few pretty non-descript thin, flat eyeshadow brushes.

Three fluffy kabuki brushes from a set like this. (Kabuki set chosen randomly, these sets are all over Amazon.)

Real Techniques stippling brush.

All right sweaties, ARE YOU READY FOR THIS!??

ONE: Bare-assed, veiny eye so you all can see what we're starting with.

TWO: Applied Missha BB cream all over.

THREE: Liquid concealer dotted around the inner and outer corner. Blended out using my fingers.

FOUR: I applied the center salmon color from the color correcting wheel to the blue areas around my eye. Be sure to apply this only where you need it. Pinky salmon over normal skin looks weird. Also, if you apply concealer all over, it will just accentuate the discoloration. With eye bags, only put the concealer where it needs to go! Blend out cream products like this using a stippling brush so you don't accidentally buff it away.

FIVE: HERE COMES THE COLOR! Apply any nude shadow that matches your skintone all around your eye, leaving the lid bare: Brow bone, inner corner, outer corner, lower lid. Apply the duochrome above your natural eye crease and then bring the color down over the crease for later blending purposes. Note that I extended the upper crease shadow inward a little and angled the shadow inward as I added more. You want to keep your inner corner as clean as you can when you're about to work with severe colors like black. I chose this duochrome shade because the red-brown base will blend well with the black and the green shift will compliment the shimmery teal.

SIX: Dot the clear glitter glue onto the center of your lid and spread a THIN layer of it only where the black eyeshadow will go. I chose glitter glue for this because its sticky formula will grab onto a lot more of the eyeshadow, which will give you a big color payoff. Using your finger, pack the color onto your center lid, up to your natural eye crease. This part doesn't have to be pretty so don't be concerned about making clean lines. Do, however, make sure you keep the color off your inner corner.

SEVEN: Using a clean, fluffy brush, gently blend the crease using back-and-forth windshield wiper motions. You do not want to press hard and mash your brush into your eye. You want to blend with the tip of your brush fibers. Take as much time as you need for this part. Blending is what takes the most time with any eyeshadow look.

EIGHT: Using a small, flat detail brush (the coastal scents one I linked), apply a little more black to the inner and outer colors to define the shape of your eye a little better. TAP THE EXCESS FROM YOUR BRUSH. I cannot overstate this. If you don't tap off the excess, the black will fall onto your face, and you will cry. Blend outer corner with a clean fluffy brush, using gentle, small, circular motions. Blend inner corner with a small, clean, flat detail brush, using a flicking motion: Place brush on inner corner, swipe/flick inward toward the black, repeat this motion until it's blended.

NINE: Using a small detail brush, apply duochrome shade from Comfort Zone along lower lid.

TEN: Using a small, flat detail brush, apply the black shadow to the lower lid by pressing it into your lash line. Use a clean, fluffy brush to blend (you see why I have a million little brushes now?), using windshield wiper motions. Do not over-blend this or it will look muddy.

ELEVEN: Apply mascara and any necessary eyeliner now so your eyelashes don't get gunked up with the liquid eyeshadow. If you have dark lashes, you probably won't need eyeliner with this look. But, as I have polar bear translucent stubs, I needed some to cross the bridge between my lashes and my lid rim.

O LAWT ANOTHER ONE: Apply a moderate amount of the shimmery teal liquid eyeshadow from the inner corner to the center of your lid. Using a clean, flat brush, gently smooth out the liquid shadow and blend it out past the center line a little. There should be no liquid shadow near the outer corner of the lid. Do not press hard during this step or you'll drag the black eyeshadow beneath and create a hole, and then you will cry and swear off dark looks for the rest of eternity.

ARE WE THERE YET: Dress up your eyebrows however you want.

Congratulations! You are finally done! Hooray!

NOW WRECK THAT SHIT.

For the curious, here is an album with a few extra pictures in it.

Trish McEvoy. It’s a little pricey but well worth the money. She still oversees her whole company and is very involved with the day to day business. Her husband is a dermatologist. She has amazing skincare products and most of her cosmetic products also have skin benefits. When I worked in cosmetics she taught me that our focus was educating clients while they are in your chair. Too often in cosmetics a client sits down and gets their makeup done and will purchase a couple of products only to get home to realize they either don’t know how it was used, it wasn’t the product they thought it was, it’s not as simple as it seemed, or they already have a similar product.

While working for Trish McEvoy we really put the focus on our client and getting to know the person in our chair to have a better understanding of the look that they are going for and how much time they want to spend getting ready. From there, I give my client a mirror so they can watch while I walked them through how to do each step. Usually I do one side and teach them how do the other so if you take any products home you know exactly how to use them.

She has a book The Power Of Makeup it is a really fun and informative.

Sorry probably more information than you were looking for😂

I travel a lot for work so I have a routine down!

I have this cosmetic bag from Pop & Suki in both the small and large sizes. (It’s customizable and leather w/ vegan leather options too)

The smaller bag is the perfect size for travel sunscreen, concealer, powder foundation, powder blush, contour, highlight, eyeliner, mascara, eyebrow pencils, you name it. Big eyeshadow palettes don’t fit, but they do in the bigger size.

The bigger size keeps all of my toiletries, face wash, travel shampoo/conditioner, toothbrush/paste, and any extra makeup things I might need that don’t fit in the small case.

I also bought this crappy brush set from amazon. i use like 50/50 these brushes and my own when i travel, but the little cylinder holder is perfect!

everything fits and stacks really nicely in my suitcase/purse and looks like a coordinated set instead of my normal hodge podge.

We have similar eye shapes, and I find winged eyeliner so tricky! Maybe thicken the line that goes along your lashline?
I'd also suggest curling your lashes - I have straight eyelashes, so curl them when wearing make up - my HG mascara is this stuff
Isehan Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara Waterproof Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00INJ7TWW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_AQMuDbQXR7VJA I've even slept with it on (not recommended!!) and my lashes are still in place the next day!
Your eyeshadow is great, and suits you well!

I wonder if something like this would help? When I was getting lash extensions, my esthetician recommended it for makeup removal. It’s gentle enough to not ruin the extensions, but still does a great job at cleaning.

Sorry this is a little late but I currently live in Japan and women here like to do waterline lining, especially tightlining the top waterline, since natural makeup is huge and waterline lining on top gives definition but isn't obvious! I picked up the Dolly Wink mechanical gel eyeliner and it never moves on me! I can wear it for hours and it will still be in the same place. The formula is kinda weird though, which is slightly thick and sticky and never dries down fully so it doesn't give misplaced by your tears.

BERON Long Wavy Soft Synthetic Wig with Straight Bangs for Women Girls Wig Cap Included (Taro Purple) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H1CFWQG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_u2kVDb6QHKPRE

Honestly I did NOT expect to like it so much for how cheap it was. And the nice thing is, if you want to get it coloured later, even with the link you can show your hairstylist what you're looking for! 😚

this is the makeup bag i use for travel. it fits everything i need and more - perfect if you travel a lot, or if you like leaving some makeup in your office (like i do) so you can apply at work.

i also keep a little ipsy bag in my purse with whatever lip i'm wearing that day, a blotter, and the fenty translucent powder compact - perfect for touch-ups!

They have clear things that go over the arms and keep them up. I haven't tried them yet but a guy at work has then and raves about them. They are like 5 bucks on Amazon these things

I have very straight lashes that point a little downwards, and also have oily lids which break down most mascaras and negates a lot of their holding properties. I've gone through one of those Sephora favorites samplers with all kinds of mascara and have fun through most of the L'Oreal and Cover Girl and Maybelline mascaras. Nothing. The only mascara that's ever worked for me to hold the curl from an eyelash curler is a Japanese brand Heroine Make Volume and Curl Mascara Super Waterproof
There is a long and curl version as well. This is legit the only mascara that holds a curl for me for longer than an hour. My lashes wilt a little but definitely still lifted at the end of the day. The only con is that it is a bitch to take off, you have to oil cleanse and/or use an oil based eye makeup remover.

You are me! Same problem. Try etude house Dr. Mascara fixer!! They sell it on amazon for like $9 and it is a LIFE SAVER! I’m on my second tube. A quick coat under mascara and your lashes will hold a curl for days!

Edit: here’s an amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/ETUDE-HOUSE-Mascara-Fixer-Perfect/dp/B004RK7I2W/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=etude+house+dr+mascara+fixer&qid=1558901737&s=gateway&sprefix=etude+house+dr+ma&sr=8-2

Have you ever tried a mascara fan brush? You can coat it with a small amount of product and slowly build it up with a lot more control. This is the one I use.

u/wonderful_wonton · 5 pointsr/MakeupLounge

I keep my makeup in a neoprene tote (built brand), organized in small clear ziploc or cosmetic case bags. If you put the tote on the floorboard of the car, keep iit out of sunlight and/or cover it with something, your makeup doesn't get hot enough to melt in the heat when you leave it in the car, and you don't have to carry it around with you on your person all day.

u/Bridget_Bishop · 1 pointr/MakeupLounge

The kind I use comes in a tub so I scoop out a finger full or so, wash like I would with any other cleanser, and rinse.

u/purrrsnickity · 1 pointr/MakeupLounge

I use this little mixing palette. I just use my finger to mix the product on the palette and then wipe it onto my face. I had the same issues as you and I've found that the palette doesn't absorb anything and I can mix properly.
