First of all, that's great that you're seeing a pro. I am not working either at the moment and struggle SO much with getting out of bed (and also getting to sleep) so I totally relate. I am very slowly building a morning routine where every day I will get out of bed at a certain time and do my AB face routine, shower, and eat breakfast (I have a quick breakfast routine that I can mindlessly do), and get dressed, quickly. I used my love of AB to get me out of bed the first few times, and it is slowly becoming a habit now. The 10 step routine is literally aiding my mental health lol! I do the same thing at night. I might not do anything else in between all day but I still feel so much better for having at least done my routines, a world of difference for something so small. Celebrate your small successes - and forgive yourself for fails - all the days I don't get it done when I meant to etc.

The other thing that is helpful is like you say to have stuff planned for during the day to get you out and about, distracted, doing stuff, but it can be difficult! Great that you are making plans (I use a paper journal), I think that will be soo helpful! Even if you have a day where you do inventory, or buying groceries, or just play with makeup for the day trying looks, or swatch things, all v productive. :)

I tend to fixate on things and for me it's a problem with a lack of groundedness/mindfulness which comes from a place of worry and anxiety. Like I almost forget where I am or what time it is or because I'm so engrossed choosing between Hada Labo Super Lotion and Cezanne High Moist until suddenly the whole day is gone. There's an internet addiction element to it that I haven't quite got to grips with yet as well.

This is reminding me of a book about a mindfulness/cognitive behaviour techniques that I found incredibly helpful as I was able to ground myself and slow time down, be at peace with my bad thoughts, and recalibrate myself. I haven't looked at in a while and this is a good reminder to reread.

Good luck with it all :)

I have a tiny little desk with a full sized mirror behind it. I keep it in my bedroom-- and it is so not travel friendly! Though it wouldn't take too long to break down, I still wouldn't want to break it down and put it back together.

I keep my brushes in these little jars I got from the Target dollar section. They're perfect. I use these to store all of my lipsticks, blushes and everything else. Currently I just have my palettes that don't fit sitting on top, but that kind of worries me. Things I use everyday, like foundation, moisturizer, etc, just sit out on my desk.

My ideal setup would be a traditional vanity-- like the Audrey Hepburn has in Breakfast at Tiffany's. :) I love that movie, and boy do I love that vanity.

I don't think it will be any different once I reach my goals. I haven't reached a stage where I want to reduce my current collection-- my current goals are just for decreasing the incoming! :)

That is awesome! I know the feeling and it's wonderful. If you haven't already, I recommend making getting ready like an event. Every morning when I wake up I go put on a pretty robe and make tea in a fancy teacup. After that I go sit down at my desk where all of my makeup/hair products are easily accessible, turn on my light and put on some music. It makes me feel glamorous and look forward to my daily ritual of getting ready.

There's a violation of trust there from people who ruin our stuff. Afterwards, it's hard to lend things without reservations.

I haven't gone through therapy, but I really respect it. I studied psychology and human development in school but never thought of myself in that context until recently. I was really considering therapy but wanted to see how far self-help books can get me. I'm also reading [The Anxiety Toolkit: Strategies for Fine-Tuning Your Mind and Moving Past Your Stuck Points] (https://www.amazon.com/Anxiety-Toolkit-Strategies-Fine-Tuning-Moving/dp/0399169253/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469987586&sr=8-1&keywords=the+anxiety+toolkit) and it made me realize how much crap I'm still dealing with.

Kids aren't on the radar for me yet, but I want to be a knowledgeable parent caring for a child and their well-being. I don't want my hang-ups to spill over into their life. I think that's great that at least now you're aware of what a toll it can take on a child to see their stuff tossed/destroyed. I wished my parents taught me how to manage my possessions. I felt like my parents didn't know how to care for kids beyond basic needs like food, shelter, and school. They didn't know how to talk to us beyond those things. I don't want to become like them. Especially having gotten married recently and becoming a "grown up", my relationship with my mom has been strained. We never had a really supportive one to begin with. Now she really doesn't know how to deal with me at this stage since she can't control me like when I was a kid.

The author of this book spent a year painting items she coveted instead of buying them, and put together this book containing those illustrations alongside her ruminations on her relationship to stuff and history of consumption.

It's a quick read, and it focuses mostly on clothing and a little bit on other stuff, but I enjoyed it a lot and a lot of it rang true to lessons I've learned myself the hard way: the mental exclusions for purchases intended to enable creativity. The perils of online shopping shortening the covet-hunt-purchase cycle. It's expensive to be a minimalist, and coveting minimalist aesthetics often paradoxically leads to more consumption. The Diderot Effect, in which buying one expensive thing leads to a consumption spiral where everything else gets upgraded as well. Rule #4.

Recommended reading for anyone in this subreddit. I think part of what I liked about it was that the author is someone who likes stuff and recognizes its appeal, so it doesn't feel like the "buy less" message is coming from a place of judgment or lack of understanding.

I should make a contract like this with my husband. Every time I buy makeup during my no buy, I have to buy him one of these. He really loves these boxers, and they're a big enough purchase for me to tell myself I can't buy makeup unless I buy a pair of those.

Thanks for the idea! Hopefully we find a bit of solidarity here, haha!

I've used this one and this one from amazon. You just have to make sure it's actually all spearmint. A lot of store brands mix the mints, so check the back for that.

I have one cup a day. 1-2 tbsp is all you need for a big cup. Less if you're using a standard one, but mine are all giant Friends size lol.

I tried using an infuser, but always ended up with bits in my tea, so now I just use my ninja coffee maker with a filter for a single morning cup. You can make a whole pot and fridge it too if you'd prefer it cold. For me it replaced my morning coffee so it was easy getting into a habit with it.

I will say on the cleanser (because I am sort of cheap) I use the Dr.Bronner's Magic Castile soap in lavender (I bought the bar form) but they have liquid from Target and it cleans my BB perfectly. Also Amazon has a two pack for [24.99] (http://www.amazon.com/Beautyblender-Ultimate-MakeUp-Applicator-sponges/dp/B000I5HJ2Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417464731&sr=8-1&keywords=beauty+blender)

Edit words... also my reasoning on the Castile soap is the fact it is way more than you will get with the name brand beauty blender version.

Congratulations on your engagement and best wishes!

Warning: the wedding magazines and blogs are full of temptations to spend lots of money on things you don't need. It helped me to keep in mind that the only things you really need for a wedding are a willing partner, an officiant, and a marriage license. Everything else is optional. A Practical Wedding (both the book and the website) provided excellent advice to avoid the wedding consumerism and keep things in perspective.

Your counter is a huge improvement! If it helps, I use this programmable space heater in my bathroom. It's a lifesaver!

I'm sorry about your cat. This journal helped me when my cat passed away: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0965113116/ref=tmm_pap_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1503546597&sr=8-5

It didn't make things easier, but it gave me a place to work through my thoughts. There are sections about your pet's life and favorite things, so it's a way to remember good things too.

Sort of like an art journal. Each page tells you to do something like "Take this into the shower" or "Fill this with circles". You can be as creative as you wish with it.

Here it is on Amazon.

I use one of these type of razors and gently shave the fuzz off in the shower while my oil cleanser is on. I used to do it dry but that irritated my face. Using a generous amount of moisturizer afterward helps.

I was having the same issue, but then I bought this makeup spatula. I use it to scoop products out of jars and tubes, and also to break up and re-press powders that I've nearly emptied. I've gotten lots of good use out of it.

It's a medicine cabinet organizer. I like that the drawer holds double ended brushes so nicely. :)

It's also possible to buy cushion compacts for this kind of thing! They're about $10 on Amazon and come with the sponge, the puff, the whole shebang. I actually bought one to put a BB cream/primer mixture into. Here's an example, though it's not the one I bought.
