I always find it interesting what scenes get chosen for cover art. It seems like a tricky balance, finding something that is evocative and enticing, but not too spoilery or chaotic. With Malazan, IMO the original hardcover artwork often kind of missed the mark... They made a lot of weird, not very exciting choices of scenes, like with TBH or RG and the art style is frankly kind of subpar sometimes. The mass market covers generally look a lot nicer, the typography is sleek, and the illustrations are better executed and have a nice mood. But I think they sometimes feel a little... generic or nonspecific to the books. Lots of buildings and faceless people with weapons (with RG being the standout exception, my favorite of the batch.)

I think in general, Subterranean Press has been knocking it out of the park. They're going for the more painterly approach in contrast to the mass market editions, but those paintings are often dynamic as hell, and definitely seem to come from someone who has actually read all the books and knows what a good scene will be (granted they did go off the deep end with DG spoilers.) And, they seem to fit together as a cohesive set more than the previous versions. If I had, literally, more than a thousand dollars to throw at books then I would be all about this set.

As for this particular cover, I quite like it and I think it will look incredible in the set with the others. I think it actually captures the mood of TTH better than the original which is more capitalizing on the last, what, fifty pages or so? With this one, we are on the boat, moving slowly toward the looming city... It feels pensive and anticipatory, much like the majority of the novel. That said, focusing strictly on the cover itself divorced from the content of the novel, this might just be the one rare case where the original hardcover art is my favorite across all editions. Of course the Subpress copy will for sure have a bunch of incredible interior illustrations...

I've been looking online and can't seem to find anything. I searched google for "Visigoth primary sources" and just found some law texts that they wrote out and a little bit of history "The history of Jews in Spain" which I don't think would be very inspirational for writing an epic fantasy.

Buy by the sound of it, you might be interested in this one book The Sagas of the Icelanders .

I really enjoyed it, give it a shot.

Alright, what amazon website are you on?

This is the one I'm usually checking
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fall-Light-Steven-Erikson/dp/0765323575/

it says in october here, really hope it comes out next month though :P

Orb Sceptre Throne hardcover starting from $37.48 via BN

Orb, Sceptre, Throne starting at $9.00 used from Amazon

Blood and Bone hardcover starting from $29.79 via BN

Blood and Bone hardcover used starting from $29.56 via Amazon

Since you checked thriftstores I'm assuming you're okay with used copies. Won't be much cheaper since they are rare, treasure hunting through brick and mortar stores is really up to if there are any Malazan readers at all in your area willing to give up those books in the first place (and these are towards the end of the series, years after first publication), which are very slim to none; most hardcovers would already be a fixture on someone's shelves by now. But those Amazon dealers should be in your ~$25 price range.

Yeah there should be plenty of trade paperbacks used on amazon. I bought the entire series in trade paperback used via amazon.

Stonewielder

Orb, Sceptre, Throne

Blood and Bone

All mass market paperbacks. Although looking at the bibliographical data that Stonewielder is a different size to the others.

So yes, they already are.

Kellanved's Reach is currently scheduled for February 2019.

The Second Tales of Bauchelain and Korbal Broach is out in October 2018.

The God is Not Willing doesn't have a release date yet. Erikson is apparently cranking it out though, so late 2019 seems plausible.

I bought the entire series in those editions straight from Amazon. I can give you the ISBN's, so you know you have the correct ones:

DH: 978-0-553-81311-1

MoI: 978-0-553-81312-8

HoC: 978-0-553-81313-5

MT: 978-0-553-81314-2

BH: 978-0-553-81315-9

RG: 978-0-553-81316-6

TtH: 978-0-553-82446-9

DoD: 978-0-553-81317-3

tCG: 978-0-553-81318-0

These are the ones I have, all the same style of covers. Do mind you, TtH, DoD and tCG have bigger dimensions. The rest are mass markets, but I couldn't find any others at the time sadly.

No sir: it appears to have different release schedules based on region. Up here in Canada, us kids are only getting it on march 22nd at the earliest.

THE UNHAPPINESS IS REAL.
