> To my knowledge reasons like this one don't exist for female circumcision.
Not true, or at least very debatable. Science has show us...
Note: I am against ALL genital mutilation of females, males and intersex. Please don't interpret this post as supporting any of these activities.
Everything I have posted below is factual; but it's supposed to be ironic and educational - to help folks clear up their confused thinking around this issue. Thanks
Genital Autonomy for all - Intersex, Male & Female
If the amputation of the mucus membranes of the male genitals results in a lowering of HIV infection; then it would not be unreasonable to assume that the amputation of the mucus membranes of the female genitals would produce the same effect. Indeed, as the total surface area of mucus membranes in females is so much greater than that of males, the effect may be even greater.
However, most western peoples will be repulsed by the idea of amputating parts of an infant female's genitals to obtain some future protection from a disease. All the more so, when nearly 100% protection can be obtain from HIV infection by use of condoms.
But this repulsion does not arise when the prospect of amputating parts of infant male genitals. This is clearly because such activity has become "normalised" in the west. This is the issue.
Like male circumcision, there are plenty of peer reviewed studies that show female circumcision is not a barrier to sexual orgasm and enjoyment. Some studies show that orgasm and enjoyment are reduced; and some show no effect.
You'll often come across members of the medical community saying that FGM has no "health" benefits, and if women have their clitoris amputated, then their sex life comes to an end. Then they say that MGM has lots of "health" benefits and that men's sex life is not affected.
But it's a myth that many women who have suffered FGM are unhappy and cannot have great sex lives. That's why they queue up to have their daughters' circumcised. Plus there are many so-called potential "health benefits" - such as a 50% reduction in HIV/AIDS.
The visible part - the glans clitoris - is only a small part of the whole clitoris. So when a woman suffers partial or total amputation of the external clitoris when undergoing FGM, only a small part of her clitoris is removed. Thus she often can enjoy a full and satisfying sex life.

Genital Autonomy for all - Intersex, Male & Female
>Webster has the true definition of feminism.
Webster (and other dictionaries) have the claimed, dictionary definition of feminism, which is not even remotely close to how feminists really think and act.
>My dad is most certainly not a doormat. He and my mother treat each other as equals.
A man supporting feminism is like a black person supporting the KKK, or a jew supporting the nazis.
>Seriously, don't you see what you're doing?
I most certainly do.
>How do you feel when you tell someone you're a Men's Rights activist and they automatically assume you think this makes you better than women? You know that's not true.
If those women are feminists, then yes, I AM better than them. The same is true of male feminists as well.
>So why apply a similar stigma to a word that is, at its heart, the same as what you believe?
I am an antifeminist. Feminism is antithetical to my beliefs.
Feminism is a hate movement that for half a century has been Spreading Misandry, Legalizing Misandry, and Sanctifying Misandry. It has been actively waging a War Against Men and sadly even a War against Boys.
Someone put it here beautifully, iirc it was something like equality for women and nothing less, equality for men and nothing more.
I think it goes back way to the very start,
>Cultivate the frontal portion of her brain as much as that of man is cultivated, and she will stand his equal at least. Even now, where her mind has been called out at all, her intellect is as bright, as capacious, and as powerful as his.
Most of them do recognize that this isn't true in the physical attributes of strength and athleticism(and the overcompensation with regards to mental aptitude seems to be related to this inferiority), however you'd still hear of some deluded ones talking of ultramarathons and then there are some who go the whole hog.
>Can women be equal to men as long as men are physically stronger? And are men, in fact, stronger?
These are key questions that Colette Dowling, author of the bestselling The Cinderella Complex, raises in her provocative new book. The myth of female frailty, with its roots in nineteenth-century medicine and misogyny, has had a damaging effect on women's health, social status, and physical safety. It is Dowling's controversial thesis that women succumb to societal pressures to appear weak in order to seem more "feminine."

After being a conservative for my whole life, about 5 years ago I started moving toward the center. I now see my self as member of the centrist party. I will leave a link on that party below.
The best book I have read that paints a great picture of where feminism is today is by Warren Farrell "Women Can't Hear What Men Don't Say" Also Warren Farrell is a lefty.
Personally I am tired of everything in life being measured in Right or Left. Everyone is now looking through their perspective glasses and judging whether they can be friends with someone based on where they sit on the Right Left line. The attitude of "if you don't agree with me you need to be burned at the stake"
I desperately want the Men's Right Movement to work for all men no matter what their political beliefs. I also want to work for equal rights for all, Men, Women, gay, straight, bisexual, Trans, Black, White, Asian, Hispanic - EVERYONE! Feminism has failed to do this. The book talks about "The Lace Curtain" If you start going off topic you are banned from feminism. Great Story about how this happened to Warren Farrell in the book when he started talking about Men's rights.

<sigh>
Even the tagline is biased with lies.
The theory "doofus dad does less around the house" only holds water when you discount male-dominated chores, like cleaning the gutters, mowing lawns, fixing cars, etc.
This have been debunked numerous times by better people than I.
Pls spare us.
Or better yet, read Farrell.
> Married women have almost two more hours of leisure time per week than their husbands. Mothers with children five and older have one hour more of free time per week. To my surprise, mothers with preschool children averaged three hours more per week of free time than dads with preschool children. *
>So according to you there is no difference between men playing around with their friends, and corporations exploiting men by depicting them as idiots at our expense to sell products to women.
Oh look, a straw man.
I said, to the observer. And it's true. If you can manipulate the observer's opinion, you create the opinion. This is psych 201 and sales 101.
And let's look for a moment at your distinction without difference, shall we. Assuming the man cares what his audience thinks, then he is in fact exploiting men (himself) by depicting himself as an idiot at his expense to sell humor to other men in return for friendship.
>Anyhow, the woman is making the statement that she can dress how she wants, and its not inviting sexual assault, and reclaiming the word slut, she isn't a company commodifying, commercializing and selling products with her sexuality.
Disingenuous assertions.
Women dress in sexual attire to attract a mate. They know this. They do so at the risk of inviting unwanted sexual attraction. Women know that women call each other sluts, as a sexual strategy/competitive strategy.
Further, anyone with half an understanding of politics, ideology, and economics (and honestly, reality) understands that there is always a commodity, always a product. Entertainment isn't a product - fun is an emotional state. But entertainers sell it. It's disingenuous and intellectually dishonest to suggest that simply because she's not producing a physical thing, nor actually produced the idea, that she's not selling it.
In this case she's selling Feminism.
>There isn't actually anything wrong with us having a grasp of the things we are taking about, beyond that of the casual observer.
If only you had that grasp. If you'd like it, start here
> In "The Frailty Myth," Colette Dowling presents a compelling and well-researched analysis of why and how American girls are socialized to be "weak." Dowling examines the myths about the "weaker sex," tracing this myth as a source of the oppression of women handed down to us from Victorian times.
> She convincingly explains why men fear strong women: In part, she says, it's because strength is perhaps the only area in which our culture does not say that men and women are equal. Thus, as male-only professions and traits are rapidly disappearing from public discourse, strength is masculinity's last hope.

>The end result of closing the wage gap is women spending more time working in corporations and spending more on consumer goods and the average couple spending more time at work than in the past - just to make ends meet.
This is also Elizabeth Warren's viewpoint, in fact she has a book on the subject, and essentially believes that having both parents in a family working is a huge problem. She thinks it's causing a drop in the quality of life across western civilization, and has been doing so since the 1970s. There's a long and plain spoken lecture on it. It's very statistics heavy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akVL7QY0S8A
As for "Cultural Marxism"; I find it interesting that The Frankfurt School were vehemently against propaganda and indoctrination - having seen the rise of Nazi propaganda in their home country - are targetted and blamed for that exact same thing. They called it "The Culture Industry" and believed it was used against the interests of the masses. To quote Adorno:
>"The Culture Industry not so much adapts to the reactions of its customers as it counterfeits them." -Adorno
>"this bloated pleasure apparatus adds no dignity to man’s lives. The idea of “fully exploiting” available technical resources and the facilities for aesthetic mass consumption is part of the economic system which refuses to exploit resources to abolish hunger." -Adorno, Enlightenment as Mass Deception.
...and yet they're blamed for creating this industry that they were so against! The targetting of this conspiracy theory seems to be on purpose. The creators of this theory have blamed the only group of western intellectuals who had studied the problem in detail. Effectively obscuring what The Frankfurt School were on about.
Luckily now, thanks to the internet - we make our own cultures.
Anyways - I agree with most of what you've written! Congratulations on coming through the thickets and seeing another side!
File a Title IX complaint with the school's title IX office and with the federal government. Instructions here:

Chances are high that the school and OCR will choose not to act on it, but it's important that boys & young men to leave a paper trail documenting discriminatory behavior. Remember, when it comes to the government, if it isn't documented on paper, it basically never happened.
This is a good book for background information on boys in education:

A good advocacy organization is Boys & Men in Education:

... they may know of good resources / tactics for your son.
Your son could also organize a men's rights student organization on campus. Most campuses are in dire need of that sort of advocacy.

Don't visit the amazon link if you're easily nauseous at seeing teen boys on display in pseudo-erotic manners...
In many cases that is accurate, especially in education. Men are having a crisis where we are falling far behind in schooling in all almost all subjects and in getting degrees. The system is set to favor women and not men. It's such a big problem that is literally affecting the economy. Men are being affected primarily in America, but also around the world.
Yet Australia, New Zealand, and England, among other places, all see it as a problem and are actively promoting ways to help men rise to the status of women (boy only schools that encourage things like rough housing, tag, etc, as an example) while America is doing the opposite. There are major lobbying efforts by women organizations to go against men and stop such policies here. It's literally a war against boys
Maybe the reason for that are the new EU privacy laws? Don't be so quick to make this a conspiracy.
Btw, if you haven't watched the movie, I highly recommend it. You can watch it "for free" with Amazon Prime.

Stop what you're doing and read this.
No, don't read it later, don't think about things, or add it to your to-do list--stop what you're doing and read it now.
If you'd like more grounding, consider getting the full ebook here (which is free on Kindle Unlimited so you have no real reason not to,) but in a pinch the survival guide above will give you the basics you need to go forward.
Follow the guide. Seriously. Follow it.
I'd keep posting but by the time I finished I'd have done a bad job of recreating the guide I linked to. So read it. Seriously, just do it. Do it now! The information in that PDF could save your life if not your career.
I sincerely hope you do take this advice seriously. Good luck and Godspeed.
Apologies if this is less clear I am tired and was about to go to bed when you asked.
One of the reasons everyone started switching to have a dual income is to have more money to spend and so they could enjoy a better lifestyle unfortunately due to everyone doing it that is not how things work out instead things are actually more expensive like housing and we actually have less security.
Housing costs go up because people are more able to pay more and those making money off this love it. Plus it allows people to pay to live in a better school district. A increase in test scores one year can add up to 10% value to your house in a single year.
The lack of security in the past if the main bread winner lost his job mother would take a part time job while he looked for a new one. Now if one partner loses their job or if medical problems arise so that one partner cannot work you are in more trouble because you have only one person working when you are stuck in a dual income nation you are pretty much screwed. You have no fallback option when one person is unable to work.
This dual income system sounded great, two people working means twice as much money right? Well not so much instead you are forced to spend it and now you have less security. Even in our parents generation it was a bad idea when it was rare for someone to get laid off when statistically now it will happen at least twice in our generations lifetime for each person than double that because two people working.
If you are interested in learning more I highly suggest reading the book: The two-income trap: Why middle class Americans are going broke by Elizabeth Warren.

For one, there's a group that calls themselves The Honey Badgers. They are avid supporters of men's rights. A Voice For Men has several women that are regular contributors on their website. In fact, DV shelter icon Erin Pizzey is one of the co-founders of AVFM.
Dr. Helen Smith wrote a best-selling book about male issues.
I can do this all day....
This is a hilariously common delusion among feminists. The idea that women are on average physically weaker then men because of "patriarchy". And that if only we lived in a perfectly feminist utopic (read: sexless) society, all sexual dimorphic traits would vanish and women would be competing in the exact same powerlifting classes as men. No...seriously, that's what they actually think.
Here's a feminist anthropology PhD on here regurgitating this hilarious nonsense. And an actual book (written by a psychiatrist feminist) basically expressing the view that the only reason men "seem" more physically powerful than women is because teh menz are keeping them weak.
I guess once you decide to take a trip down the deranged rabbit hole of academic feminism, pretty soon no measure absurd research cherry-picking and perversion of reality in the form of wildly deluded "feminist theory" is out of bounds.
The book is called Is Everyone Really Equal? An Introduction to Key Concepts in Social Justice Education by Ozlem Sensoy and Robin DiAngelo, Teachers College Press (2011). The excerpt is taken from page 46.
Damn, its nice seeing someone else who sees the bigger picture here. Have you read or heard about this one? The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Parents are Going Broke. Honestly, I haven't read it myself yet, but I sure mean to soon.
Since this was front-paged I'm gonna hijack the top post and link to the work of Karen Straughan. She posts here occasionally and will hopefully chime in on this thread.

Hi Alanna, thank you for commenting.
>That book is bullshit.
That could be, (it certainly was one of the most depressing books I have ever read) but I have met enough women like the one this thread is about (or these women) to know they are a sizable population.
>I love my father and my husband.
That is good. It is heartening.
I agree with you that the psychology/self-help section is mostly BS.
As far as spreading hatred toward men, I blame the the feminist movement, which for the past four decades have been systematically Spreading Misandry, Legalizing Misandry, waging an all out War Against Men and sadly even a War Against Boys.
In case this is the first time you've heard about her, Helen Smith is one of the few unicorns out there. She genuinely cares for men and has written a famous book on the topic of MGTOW and several articles about the treatment that men receive in this society.
I think /u/goodmod should be banished from this board for deciding to "sticky" shit posts like this one.
Want to test a feminist's beliefs? Have her watch The Red Pill for free with Amazon Prime.
If, at the end of watching it she cannot see how Cassie had a change of heart then she will never, ever, "get" this board.
> Whether or not feminism actually is pushing "equality for women" is its own issue
No, it is the FUNDAMENTAL issue.
> if a well-intentioned feminist didn't believe that feminism meant "equality for women", then they would be contradicting themself.
So, and I am literally taking OP's words at face value, if a feminist doesn't believe that women should be required to sign up for the Selective Service (in the US) then she is contradicting herself.
/u/DignafiedAlpaca is showing herself to be a false flag operative nudging us towards "why can't we all just get along" (and be a little more like women)? Fuck that.
Germaine Greer should know better, since she's an ephebophile herself.
Sure, here is a quick paper on the methods feminism uses to cover up and minimise female perpetrated domestic violence to conform to its theories on how it should look.

Not entirely true. There are more men at the top of the food chain than women. But there are also more men at the bottom of the food chain. Women tend to cluster towards the middle for whatever reason. https://www.amazon.com/Men-Strike-Boycotting-Marriage-Fatherhood-ebook/dp/B00OFK22Y8/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3DN7GTVDU7C4I&keywords=men+on+strike&qid=1556005635&s=books&sprefix=Men+On+Strike%2Caps%2C148&sr=1-1

>When we talk about traditional masculine ideology, those are the things in culture—and right now we're in a particular historical time and culture—that are prescriptive (what boys and men should do) and proscriptive (what boys and men should not do). There's a lot of diversity in the way masculinity is experienced and expressed. Some of these standards have held popular ideas in a certain segment of the population: Things like the avoidance of being seen as weak, extreme risk-taking, or extreme levels of aggression or violence.
The problem with this way of thinking is that it is idealist. It says that the problems are certain ideas floating around in our minds that are causing the problem. The ideas that occupy people's heads are logically dependent on their physical and social circumstances, not the other way around. https://www.cambridgescholars.com/download/sample/61013

Agreed — and here's the evidence:
Like male circumcision, there are plenty of peer reviewed scientific studies, cultural research reports, and personal testimonials, that show female circumcision is not a barrier to sexual orgasm and enjoyment.
Female Circumcision & Sexual Response
The truth about the female clitoris
The visible part - the glans clitoris - is only a small part of the whole clitoris. So when a woman suffers partial or total amputation of the external clitoris when undergoing FGM, only a small part of her clitoris is removed. Thus she often can enjoy a full and satisfying sex life.
Learn how large the female clitoris is; and how the external glans clitoris is just a small part of it:

I'd first like to give you a couple pointers of people/publications you might want to connect with to give you a deeper understanding:
Tom Golden (menaregood) is a psychotherapist (once a member of APA section that published the infamous guidelines) who has published a couple rather good books like the way men heal. He might be interesting to talk to with respect solution oriented, resource centered approaches to men's issues.
Helen Smith (interview) is a psychotherapist who has published Men on strike which is focused on men opting out of marriage and fatherhood and many of the underlying issues she uncovers in direct conversations with men also are at play in your area of concern, I think.

Secondly, my personal opinion:
I share most of the concerns that have already been expressed by others with respect to the misandry and racism of the grievance studies fields.
One risk that I'd personally be worried about is doxxing.
The grievance studies activists are known to play dirty. So, if I have to provide identifying information, there's a substancial risk that it will be mishandled (very likely with university "researchers" in my experience) and could end up in the hands of activists who then starts to harass me by pressuring my employer or other organizations I'm affiliated with or one of the other typical character assassination tactics those people are notorious for using.
So, the risk of having substancial negative impact on my personal life stands against marginal benefit of participating in a study that at best will have little to no impact and at worst is just yet another disguised hit job aiming to demonize men.
This is the (in the words of Helen Smith) the rational cost benefit analysis, I'm running when it comes to engaging with grievance studies.

I'm a former member of the academy and have witnessed the abyssimal conduct of grievance studies activists first hand, so please spare me the "not all social science researchers" blabla.

I have done extensive research, which is why I hate feminists. I am an antifeminist - someone who is against the feminist movement, which for the past four decades have been systematically Spreading Misandry, Legalizing Misandry, waging an all out War Against Men and sadly even a War Against Boys.
A Reference book of men's issues is probably your best bet for finding relevant studies.

The term "Gender Studies" is so broad that it is really hard to create a one size fits all rebuttal instead you have to attack individual claims. The subject itself has been criticised heavily from its inception (it was ridiculed by Sociologists during the Second Wave but sadly it infected the subject).
This is a great book criticising the subject itself

Few things:
Armchair quarterback time. Straughan did a brilliant job as always but perhaps a little constructive criticism couldn't hurt:
Overall though a pretty good discussion, and though the feminist is obviously wrong about a number of issues she did show a willingness to acknowledge female privilege and change her views.
Thanks "bad" Karen or /u/girlwriteswhat ;)
I just remembered: far and away the main resource you can use is this chapter about "the lace curtain" from Warren Farrell's highly-recommended book, Women Can't Hear What Men Don't Say. It is all about how men and their issues are overlooked in society and media.
If you're allowed to use non-Australian sources, might I suggest you emphasise the point that boys don't get gendered support from schooling age. My own theory is that the reason it's mainly men who succeed in business, economics, and leadership partly because we are left to our own devices at a young age, and while girls are receiving help from a skewed education system with specialist programs catered specifically to their gender, boys reluctantly learn that they have to fend for themselves and take big risks for themselves in order to survive in this unforgiving world. I reckon it's the same reason why infant boys and girls cry at the same rate but boys cry much less at around aged 7 or 8.
(Girls' and women's programs are extremely appealing to them, by the way, because of the heavily lopsided in-group bias that women have toward each other, as opposed to the out-group bias that men have against each other. Male-only programs won't have anywhere near the appeal as female-only ones because guys just don't think like that.)
Some links about boys and schooling:
And, finally, one of my own thread of three posts here on Reddit that include many of the aforementioned links:
I do apologise for bombarding you with resources, but I spent a long time being a feminist and empathising with their viewpoints, not realising that were deceptively painting only part of a much bigger picture. When I realised just how much I had been shamed and lied to, I had a lot of unlearning to do, hence all the internet bookmarks and books I now have. Of course women have issues worth fighting for, but none of them are anywhere near as dire as how they are portrayed: 1 in 51 (American) college women sexually assaulted on campus rather than the advertised 1 in 4, a near negligible earnings gap between genders rather than a 23% pay difference for "the same job", etc.
