Here is a quick list I made in another post.

Most of the monitors here are free sync and I would say have good implementations however I will include a Gsync category.

I would not recommend 4k for the 2080. It would be able to run games around 60 fps at 4k however refresh rate will make things more enjoyable. Also, 4k high refresh rate monitors are currently very expensive.

Good value companies to look at:

Viotek

Pixio (Did not list since availability issues but worth looking at)

Nixeus

More established companies to look at:

Acer

Asus

Samsung

LG

Gigabyte (They have one monitor on the market)

TL;DR of VA vs IPS

IPS has slightly better viewing angles than VA.

IPS has slightly better colors VA.

IPS has better response time than VA.

However, VA does not have defects like IPS glow and much better contrast, so much better blacks and such.

TL;DR of TN vs IPS

IPS has much better viewing angles than TN. TN will color shift if looked at straight on.

IPS has much better colors than TN.

TN has the best response rate.

TN is basically worse in every way than VA and IPS except for response time.

Right, crash course time. I'm not really into the fighting game scene, barring watching a few EVO matches, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that they use TN panels, which prioritize high refresh rate and low input lag over picture quality. That one you linked most certainly does. If you've been using a TN monitor for a while, I'm not surprised that your friend's Predator got you thinking.

For picture quality, you have two options for panels: IPS and VA. Some people will tell you that IPS is the only way, but those people are wrong. IPS monitors clearly win the areas of color quality / vibrancy and viewing angles; TN panels have awful color shifting when viewed off-center, and VA panels, while better, aren't fantastic. On the other hand, all IPS panels bring with them the dreaded "IPS glow," a soft, pale light from the corners visible in dark content.

VA panels, on the other hand, stomp the competition when it comes to contrast - compare ~500:1 for TN, ~1000:1 for IPS, and ~3000:1 for VA - making them an excellent choice for movies. Think the difference between LCD and plasma televisions, which is actually not far off, technologically speaking. But, they're incredibly slow - there are only a handful of VA panels available with refresh rates over 60 Hz - and not really suitable for fast-paced genres like FPS.

Also, consider that both IPS and VA panels have inferior response times and input lag, compared to TN. Almost all gamer-oriented TN panels have ~1ms response times, while IPS aim for ~4ms and VA are lucky if they get ~8ms. What this means is that things might seem a little sluggish when you start out; I emphasize "might" because some people, like me, don't care about the difference, and others don't even notice it. Manufacturers attempt to fix this problem by building "overdrive" into their monitors, essentially pouring more juice into the pixels to force better response times. As you might imagine, though, this comes with its own problems, including higher input lag and "overshoot," faint trails and blurs behind fast-moving objects. This one I do care about, and it's one of those things that once you see it, you can't stop seeing it. IPS panels can suffer from this problem, but VA is where it gets really nasty.

So, in summary, you have three options:

  • TN panels, which offer blazing speed and near-CRT levels of input lag, but often have poor colors, contrast, and viewing angles. This is almost certainly what you have right now.
  • IPS panels, which offer rich colors and almost perfect viewing angles, but have only middling response times and suffer from glow. This is what your friend has.
  • VA panels, which offer fantastic contrast and middle-of-the-road colors and viewing angles, but have low refresh rates and often suffer from input lag and overshoot.

There are also other features that you might want to consider, but if you're not into PC gaming in a big way, they might be a waste. A few:

  • 1440p+ resolution. This one can be nice even if you don't game. Higher resolution makes for a clearer, crisper picture, but does significantly decrease performance in games and can flummux Windows' and Linux's UI scaling to this day. Still worth it, in my opinion. Do note that the best resolutions for each screen size are probably: 1080p for 24", 1440p for 27", 4K for anything bigger.
  • 21:9 aspect ratio ("ultra-widescreen"). I haven't used this one myself, but I hear it's pretty great, especially for games and movies. For applications, it might not perfectly replace two monitors, simply because you can't do things like full-screen a video on one monitor and work on another. It's up to you on that one.
  • 120+ Hz. Fast refresh rates allow for more fluid gameplay, provided your graphics card can hack it. That 780 is a bit long in the tooth for this, at least with recent titles. In addition, 120 Hz offers a neat bonus: it's a perfect multiple of both 24 Hz and 30 Hz, which means it will eliminate judder in nearly all media.
  • G-SYNC / FreeSync. Designed by NVIDIA and AMD, respectively, these technologies sync your display's refresh rate with your graphics card. What this means is that you can experience tear-free, buttery smooth gameplay without having to enable VSync and all the input lag nightmares that come with it. Note that, while FreeSync monitors are often competitively priced, G-SYNC adds a hefty tax, and you can't use one company's tech with the other company's graphics cards.

Well, that's just about all you really need to know about finding a new monitor. As for suggestions, I don't really keep up with all the latest models and whatnot, so I'll leave that to others. The Predator is an excellent monitor, though. If you liked your friend's so much, why not get one yourself? It's right in the middle of your budget at ~$750, and includes all of the neat features above, minus 21:9. For $50 more, the ASUS PG279Q offers a similar experience with maybe juuuust a bit better colors. Finally, Acer also offers the 34-inch, IPS, 21:9, curved XR341CK for ~$840, which is...just...wow...really quite a...reasonable price...hmmmm. There's also the G-SYNC-enabled X34, but that $400 premium is absurd.

Well, I know that was long, but I hope it helped. I just think it's always best to know what you're looking for, rather than just following some random recommendations. If you've got any questions, it's my long weekend, so ask away.

Here are two monitors I've heard nothing but good things about.
Here's the AOC and here's the Dell.

Both are 23", IPS, LED monitors at 1920x1080 and have 5ms refresh rates (pretty sure they use the same panels internally)

Dell ultrasharps are awesome, but cost you an arm, leg or kidney to afford usually.

For eye strain in particular:

I'd recommend calibrating your monitors to make sure they're at their optimal visual settings for the environment they're used in since out of the box most monitors are off color wise and in brightness levels.

A couple of other alternatives are using a pair of Gunnar Monitor Glasses, which are a bit expensive so I wouldn't recommend buying them retail but they come on sales every now and then on Woot! offs or Woot! sales for about $30 which is where I got mine. They work well and I mostly use them when I know I'm gonna pull an all nighter for papers and will be staring at a screen for a while but I don't use them regularly.

Another free alternative is using Flux software on you're computer so brightness and color intensity adjust to the time of the day, which results in less eye strain and better sleep for those who use the computer before bed. The only downside to it is that it tints the colors on your monitor and reduces accuracy but this can be turned off for a portion of time for things like gaming, photo/video editing or movies.

The last and final thing I'm gonna mention as a side not is Lightpack. Aside from it being incredibly awesome in general for everything from movies, to games, to ambiance it's also supposed to reduce eye strain. It's still in it's Kickstarter phase (I backed it for 2 kits) but when it's released as a consumer product you might want to consider looking into them.

Hope some of this helped!

Depends on your budget, bud.

I assume you know what things like refresh rate are, and what IPS/TN panels are. If not, [here's] (http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/r/refrrate.htm) a quick definition of what refresh rate is, and a [video] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8Y26Uq07Kw) on the differences between IPS and TN panels. Also, consider Freesync. Here's a [video on what that is] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ey-KObDABI).

Now that you've gotten settled, I'll give you some options :)

[Acer XG270HU] (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ref=sr_1_1?tag=amazon0606-20&ie=UTF8&qid=1430272001&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+xg270hu+omidpx) $419

[Asus MG279] (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ref=sr_1_1?tag=amazon0606-20&ie=UTF8&qid=1430272001&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+xg270hu+omidpx) $600

[LG Electronics 34UM67] (http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-34UM67-34-Inch-LED-lit/dp/B00VBNQJSM/ref=sr_1_2?tag=amazon0606-20&ie=UTF8&qid=1431886478&sr=8-2&keywords=29UM67) $500

[Acer XR341CK] (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XR341CK-bmijpphz-34-inch-UltraWide/dp/B0111MRT90/ref=sr_1_15?tag=amazon0606-20&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1436945804&sr=1-15&keywords=3440x1440) ~$1000

[Acer G257HU] (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidpx-25-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00QS0AKVK?tag=amazon0606-20) $260 -- this is a really good monitor for the price if you're on a budget. It doesn't have freesync, but it's great for the price if you don't care about screen tear. Hey, that rhymes! LOL

[Acer H277H] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKU6/ref=twister_B016E49WWW?tag=amazon0606-20&_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) $280 same goes for this one! it's 1080p so it won't be taxing on your system like 4K would. 1440p isn't that taxing as well if you adjust your settings :)

If you are playing FPS shooters, having freesync could be a beneficial thing for you :) so consider that!

Hope this helps!

EDIT: quick side note! WAIT FOR COMPUTEX BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING! I can't tell you how many times people buy hardware before new ones get announced/come out, and then they beat themselves up. Consider these options as a pathway, but you should 1. Do more research on the things you look for in a monitor besides the things I've mentioned before and 2. Wait until something better gets released since you said you are planning to do a PC build in the near future. Wait for AMD's new architecture, named Polaris, to drop. Wait for benchmarks. Wait for monitors at computex to be announced, and then make a decision! :) All these things can help.

Why? Because I'm planning to do a PC build myself in the near future! :)

tl;dr trying to figure out what's important for me. Looking for 1) ~27", 2) curved (just a preference), 3) high refresh rate (not sure how important this is), 4) IPS (not sure how important this is), 5) 1440p (or 1080p?), 6) VESA mountable, 7) low blue light, 8) flicker-free, 9) tiny bezel for a multi-monitor setup for long hours of non-media and non-gaming related usage.

Looking to get a new monitor setup and have put in some 15-20 hours of research, and I feel more lost than when I started.

For programming/reading/daytrading (and not gaming/doing media related stuff), what should I be looking for and what criteria should I be evaluating? I'm trying to maximize screen area across a multi-monitor setup (4-8 monitors total for 2 rows) and ease on the eyes for long hours of work (so: flicker free and low blue light), I don't really care about color range/trueness.

Size: looking for 27" as that's the largest that can realistically be mounted on a desk stand in a multi-monitor setup.

Panel type: TN/IPS/VA - what's best? I'm seeing a lot of conflicting opinions but it seems that TN is cheapest, VA best for gaming (?) / media, IPS best otherwise?

Curve: I think I prefer curved - opinions?

Resolution: 4k seems like a waste, leaving 1080/1440. It seems that the limiting factor for taking in data from my monitor setup would be my vision as opposed to the number of pixels per screen given that I'll have at minimum 4x27" monitors. If that's true, how much advantage is there really to 1440 versus 1080?

Refresh rate: is high refresh rate actually worthwhile/easier on the eyes [for not gaming]?

Response delay: Not really a consideration for usage unrelated to gaming.

Flicker-free/low blue light: Sounds nice, potentially the most important factor, but horribly subjective -- how do you actually quantify this? It's listed on some monitors and not on others, but never quantified. Is this a real/worthwhile thing, and am I to just believe that it works fine on any monitor that mentions these features?

Mounting: looking to get a 2x2/2x3/2x4 monitor setup, so VESA mount is critical. Further, it seems that I'm realistically limited to 27" monitor size due to monitor stand limitations (I don't want to mess with wall-mounted arms). If there were some good >30" monitors I might be able to make a 2x2 setup work (Samsung's 49" looks sooo fantastic but seems tragically awkward/difficult to make work in a multi-monitor setup due to weight/size).

Brand names: Recommendations? I keep reading through horror stories about dead pixels from foreign/less heard of brands that only produce monitors. Anything to watch out for?

Some monitors I've been looking at:

(1)

pros: 27", curved, 1440p, 144Hz, VESA mount,

concerns: VA and not IPS (is this even bad?), doesn't mention "flicker free" (but it's 144Hz? are refresh rate/flicker-free even related? idk), complaints about dead pixels

https://www.amazon.com/VIOTEK-GN27D-Curved-Computer-Monitor/dp/B078P57ZWL/

(2)

pros: 27", 1440p, 144Hz, IPS (!!!), mentions flicker free, good brand

concerns: not curved, pricey, doesn't mention low blue light

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CH9ZTI4/

(3)

great (best?) brand (Asus), 31.5" is a good size but might be awkward/hard to mount, options are straight+1440p+75Hz and curved+1080p+144Hz rather than the ideal curved/1440p/144Hz, really great sounding blue light/flicker free tech (subjective though)

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=0JC-001P-00A25

(4)

Asus, 27", IPS, 1440p, not curved, pricey (165Hz is overkill)

https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B017EVR2VM/

(5)

Asus, 27", IPS, 1440p, requires out of stock adapter to VESA mount, low refresh rate

https://www.amazon.com/Designo-MX27AQ-2560x1440-Frameless-Monitor/dp/B00VRKVGSC

curved+IPS+high refresh rate+1440p seems like a hard combination to come across, though I'm not sure that those are important features.

u/void_nemesis · 1 pointr/Monitors

If the laptop has optimus as well, then maybe - but honestly, for $200 (I'm assuming USD) you're much better off buying the laptop and a dedicated 144Hz monitor to use at home. That's what I did - I have the Asus GL504GV (i7-8750H, RTX 2060) without G-Sync (but it does have Optimus) and I very recently bought the Acer VG240YP which is honestly an amazing 144Hz IPS display for the price. This has the added benefit of giving you two screens for the same price as one with G-sync.

If you want to use G-Sync while traveling (if you travel often and can't drag around a monitor) then sure, that's your best bet - but once again I don't think it's worth it. I haven't really ever needed G-sync, since everything I run on said laptop stays around 100fps anyway.

I think that the best compromise that I can recommend is going to stretch your budget a little bit, but please let me know if this will work for you.

BenQ GW2765HT - Typically $300-$350

  • [Product Info Page] (http://www.benq.us/product/monitor/gw2765ht/)
  • [Newegg Listing] (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014383)
  • [Amazon Listing] (https://smile.amazon.com/BenQ-GW2765HT-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00KYCSRSG/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8)
  • [TFTCentral Review] (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/benq_gw2765ht.htm)
  • [The Wire Cutter] (http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-27-inch-monitor/)

This is a 27", 1440p, 60hz, IPS-like (AHVA) display. It has solid color pre-sets out of the box, among the better options for a budget, non-calibrated display. It will look significantly better than the TN options in this price range. It also has a fully adjustable ergonomic stand and VESA mounting support.

It has adequate response times for a 60hz display, as ghosting and overshoot are minimal. Input lag is typical for a non-gaming display, that is slightly better than my Dell U2717D at just under 19ms. This may sound bad, but it's typical, and unless you're a highly competitive gamer, it won't matter. It's better than 99% of televisions.

It's a great budget display that is well rounded. It doesn't excel in any one area, but it's not delinquent in any one area. It has a solid overall picture quality (and if you're used to <$200 and/or TN displays, the picture may just blow you away).

For a similar amount, the best you can really do are the 24" (and maybe 27") 1080p 144hz TN and VA sets, which simply do not hold a candle to this display in picture quality, but will beat it in terms of gaming responsiveness. Since you're trying to balance between gaming and semi-professional use, I'd go with the BenQ.

If you find a way to stretch your budget further, the Dell U2717D is a superior choice. It comes factory calibrated, and uses a Samsung PLS panel that is lower glow, with better overall build quality, and an integrated 4-port USB 3.0 hub. But that will add another ~$100 to the price tag.

Let me know if this is useful, or if you're dead set on a ~$200 price point, and I'll try to tailor my recommendations to that. Just keep in mind that 1440p is virtually out of the question in that segment.

EDIT: Also using a GTX 1060 6GB with my Dell, and gaming is enjoyable.

Amazon sells an Ergotron arm that's branded as AmazonBasics Premium Single Monitor Stand. It's 100$, but is half the price of the Ergotron branded one.

And your sketch made me giggle, haha!

Edit: Added links to the Amazon & Ergotron models. If you look at the Amazon product in black, one of their images shows what's included in the box. If you view this image and look at the manual, at the top left is the Ergotron logo. I used to have two of these Erogtron branded arms from 2005-2017. They are AWESOME though spendy--the Amazon branded one is a great deal. Great articulation/adjustment options. I have junky monitor arms in my office and they work as far as holding your monitor, but you can't adjust on-the-fly, they require tools to tighten/loosen bolts and feel flimsy.

You will drop some frames going to a 1440p monitor, but 60-144 hz is a huge difference and pretty much the biggest difference of all right now. It will also help somewhat with aliasing due to the greater number of pixels on screen at once.

If you have any intention of upgrading your GPU at some point, 1440p is an even more attractive option because those GPUs will drive 1440p even better.

Quick edit: I also say I'm very surprised at the cost of that TN panel from ASUS. Their premium on ROG is insane. For that price you can literally get an IPS Acer Predator or save a good chunk of money on the equivalent TN panel

u/McMurry · 1 pointr/Monitors

Yes, if you do not game, the high refresh would be nice, everything would be slightly smoother, but ya, very unnecessary. Definitely skip GSYNC.

Got my wife one of these and she loves it: Dell UltraSharp U2715H 27-Inch

I might suggest you reconsider 4k. It is a much more 'standard' resolution, meaning panels can be shared with TVs to lower the overall cost. In many cases you can get a nice 4k for not much more than a 1440p panel and in some cases cheaper:
For example; LG 27UD58-B 27-Inch 4K UHD IPS

Good Luck with your search! Hopefully some other folks will give some alternative recommendations!

u/thejerkstoreNA · 1 pointr/Monitors

Quick review- the two panels I received are great. The quality of the stand is fantastic. The aesthetics are great for me, preferring a clean "office" look over anything that looks "gaming". They're TN panels and as I'm sure aren't perfect with color however I'm using them for gaming and I personally don't notice any problems. My panels were both the A07 revision produced in September 2017 (says so on the boxes) delivered to my house by Best Buy. My buddy who ordered one for in-store pick-up got an A04 revision and has major issues with artifacts in darker color gradients which I've read many other users have had the same issue with that revision.

Using this image on my monitors there is some minor banding across the dark gradients (more noticeable if you crank up brightness), however I have the same issue on every other monitor I own including my Note 5 OLED phone so maybe it's just the image? In-game I haven't noticed this creating any problems.

Verdict: I'm keeping both. They're a huge upgrade for me and I'm quite happy with them at $350 each. If I wanted to spend $600+ I'd likely go for an IPS panel such as this one but I'm a happy camper today.

Good luck with your monitor shopping!

I don't mean to hijack the post, but I had a question for you NCX, and didn't see any other good way to ask.

I've read your forum of reviews and you seem very well versed in the subject. It just can be an overwhelming amount of information.

With a use case of work of app developing and occasional single player gaming, is there any significant benefit for a lot of the monitors on your list over the LG 27UD58 at it's $299 price point? I'm not going to be editing photos or media, so the minute differences in color accuracy may be lost on me. I just want a significant upgrade from my current main monitor (which is a BenQ 24" 1080p TN panel). My budget ceiling is in the ballpark of 500, but I'm trying to understand what, if anything is a big difference between the low and mid end of 4k IPS monitors and get the best bang for my buck.

Thanks for all of your help and time, I see that you've assisted a lot of people on this sub.

The Alienware 25 inch is awesome! I had one for a couple years and had to upgrade to 4K for editing, but great monitor and excellent build quality. The free sync worked great with my Nvidia GPU. No need to spend extra on Gsync. Alienware 25 Inch, 240 HZ Monitor

I'm using a really old, shitty desk purchased from Walmart like ~10 years ago and have 0 problems with stability. I was worried for a little while that it was going to just tip one day or even just break the desk but it's been going strong for about ~1.5 years now.

Here's the mount I'm using...

I have a 27" QNIX and a 22" Asus mounted to it and it's been nothing short of perfect. The arms can be titled and move horizontally but the height isn't very adjustable, at least not easily. You basically set it to the height based on pre-drilled holes on the vertical standing arm (the part that mounts to the desk) and just stick a screw in to hold it there. If you want to adjust height you'll have to remove the screw and likely take the monitors off before sliding it up/down. If you want something that's easily adjustable in height, you'll be spending more in the ~75-100$ range as opposed to ~40$ for a less-dynamic model.

It sounds like you may just have a single monitor though... If you have no plans to add another then I'd just get something like the Amazon Basics for 99$ or the Mount-It! for 39$.

The Amazon model gives you pretty much the maximum adjust-ability but it's a bit pricey (not really, other mounts are just cheap). The single arm Mount-It! I linked is a little more adjustable on-the-fly than my personal mount I posted earlier but costs about the same as the dual-mount.

Also, I use a sit-to-stand desk at work and love it. I get pain in my lower back from my terrible posture and generally can't sit still too long without getting up to walk around a bit. Being able to stand and work whenever really helped limit my back pain and I love being able to move about. The downside is that they're pretty damn expensive... For a reference, we have Ergotrons where I work.

If I had to guess I'd say it was this model specifically. That whole 'desk' mounts on your actual computer desk and can be raised/lowered and adjusted in all sorts of positions.

edit and now that you've got me looking into all of this again, I'm thinking of upgrading to something more adjustable like the Amazon Basics mount but a dual-monitor version. IMO just skip the cheaper model and get something more dynamic like the Amazon mount.

Witcher 3 minimum specs: Core i5 2500K, 6GB of RAM and a GTX 660
Overwatch minimum specs: Core i3, 4GB of Ram and a GTX 460
World of Warships minimum specs: Core i3, 2.5GB of Ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT

So from the looks of it, I'm taking it your system is playing these games but not super well. That makes it a bit easier to decide on a monitor.

> I am really confused with all these 4k vs 1440p vs 1080p... Will I even be able to play on 1440p/4k?

The higher the resolution, the better your picture quality. Getting 1440p requires more graphics card power than a 1080p so your computer may complain. However, if you are getting a 27" monitor it should be 1440p. Everywhere that I read it strongly advised that you get 1440p if you get a 27" monitor. If your computer can't deal with it you can manually lower your resolution to 1080p although the picture quality will suffer a bit. I own two monitors (PB278Q 27.0 and ViewSonic XG2703-GS 27.0) (looking to get rid of the 1st one) and I love them both. I just manually changed the resolution to 1080p on the second monitor and everything looked bad/blurry. I don't know if that's what will happen to a 27" with 1080p by default so maybe someone else can chime in on that.

tldr: I recomend 1440p 27" but your GPU may complain.

> I am really confused with ... 144hz or 60hz... Should I look at 60hz monitors

Hz means refresh rate. So, a 144hz monitor will refresh the image on the screen 144 times a second. A 60hz monitor can do it 60 times a second, etc. Unless you plan on upgrading your CPU and GPU in the future, I would recommend ignoring 144hz monitors. This is because your computer will likely not be able to dish out images fast enough to warrant it. Additionally, mainly FPS shooters are where the extra hz will come in handy.

tldr: Go for 60hz and you'll be fine.

> I am really confused with IPS or TN etc.

For your budget, I think IPS should be very doable. IPS will give you better color production and make things in general look better. Have you ever looked at someones laptop from the at an angle and couldn't see what was on the screen? That's pretty much TN in a nutshell.

tldr: Get IPS.

Supder tldr: If you want a 27" monitor go for a 27" 1440p 60hz IPS monitor. 1440p so it doesn't look bad (computer may complain) 60hz because you won't be able to run 144hz and benefit from it and IPS because you can afford it and it's good. Look at pcPartPicker, I have already filled in the form for you. Also, the top monitor (ASUS PB278Q) happens to be the other monitor I have so AMA.

Honestly, I decided to wait until new Nvidia GPUs come out, BUT I am def going to get one of the Dell Ultrasharp series. I am going to get this 24 inch:

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2414H-24-Inch-Monitor/dp/B00GTV05XG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453346344&sr=8-1&keywords=Dell+ultrasharp

OR upgrade to 1440p:

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2515H-25-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00SPWPF1O/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1453346344&sr=8-4&keywords=Dell+ultrasharp

I've researched for a while & really asked to question b/c I didn't see them listed as much as some others, but IMO they are the best. I also like the ASUS equivalents as well. Most of what I see are monitors catered towards gaming, and that is great but I also want to have kickass colors & build quality.

To me, my requirements were met with the Ultrasharp series. I have seen some in person and they're awesome. Other monitors in the same category do go on sale more often, but to me the fact that the Ultrasharps do not go on sale is indicative of their quality. I don't need any quicker than 60hz and I really don't want to invest in one of those obligatory Korean Qnix reccomended monitors because you could get a bad panel, and the build quality isn't stellar, plus the Dell's are introductory graphic design monitor too.

My two cents.

u/Praseve · 8 pointsr/Monitors

Currently there's no option for 1080p 144Hz IPS at 24". You can find those specs at 27" with the ASUS VG279Q but in my opinion 27 inches is too big for 1080p and it wouldn't look as sharp.

However there are 2 displays coming out this year that fit those specs. There's the unnamed ASUS 24.5" 1080p 144Hz IPS display (likely with FreeSync support) that people are guessing will come out Q2 2019 and we don't know what the price will be but I'm guessing maybe like $250 considering the 27" is $319.99.

But unless there's a huge difference in quality between the monitors, what I'm doing is waiting for AOC to drop the AOC 24G2U, a 23.8" 1080p 144Hz IPS panel with FreeSync support that's supposed to retail for about $190 (converted from 169€)

I'm using https://www.displayninja.com/new-monitors-in-2019/ to keep track of monitors coming out this year BTW, I've found it pretty helpful

Edit: There will also be a 240Hz version of that ASUS IPS Freesync monitor if that interests you

u/Kinaestheticsz · 2 pointsr/Monitors

One of the single best picks at that price range would be the Dell U2312HM 23" IPS. It isn't going to be a wide gamut monitor as it is an 8 bit (6-Bit + FRC) panel. It isn't going to be the greatest monitor, especially for photo work, but it is pretty much the best you are going to get sub $200.

Thankfully, however, TFTCentral actually happens to have a color correct ICC profile for this exact monitor. Although it isn't 100% perfect as monitors can vary in terms of color reproduction monitor to monitor, it will be close enough for you to do some "color critical" work, i.e. photo editing.

The link for the ICC Profile for the Dell U2312HM: Link

That link also has a guide on how to install an ICC color profile for your monitor.

If you are interested in figuring out what panel is used in the Dell, this (LM230WF3-SLD1) is the panel used in it.

u/bradclarkston · 1 pointr/Monitors

That's a hard price to hit for a "good" 144hz it would help to know if your looking for G-Sync (nvidia) or FreeSync (amd) and IPS vs TN panels.

G-Sync runs you about an extra $100 for nvidia's proprietary system but it's arguably better in certain situations.
The panel makes a difference as well IPS is better but will run you allot more than $250 alone so that's probably out.
TN is a bit of a older standard but you can find some really good TN panels out there like Dell's s2719dg set.

Dell's S2719DGF is the cheaper FreeSync version at $299.99 on Amazon.
Dell's S2716DGR G-Sync monitor is on sale right now at BestBuy for $349 (anything $350 or lower is a great price for this monitor).

There are cheaper G-Sync or especially Free-Sync monitors out there but you start losing 1440p/144hz quality fast.

u/J0539H_ · 1 pointr/Monitors

I'd also recommend getting a FreeSync monitor. It'll synchronize the monitor's refresh rate with your graphics card's framerate, reducing or eliminating input latency, screen tearing, and stuttering. Your card won't be able to push 144fps on all games (unless you lower some settings) and it'll fluctuate, therefore FreeSync should help reduce all those visual artifacts without having to sacrifice input lag by enabling v-sync. A 27" 1440p 144hz IPS FreeSync monitor is pretty much the best pairing for your system.

Haven't looked around much but this has a $40 coupon right now which puts it at $390 + taxes and that's the best price I've seen with those specs (even compared to 144hz): https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07WGXXV55/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_AlS0DbMWHK1PW

Although if you wanted to save some money I would've recommended the 95hz version, considering the jump from 60hz and 95hz is more noticeable than from 95hz to 144hz.

u/Analbub · 2 pointsr/Monitors

The 1060 max-q isn't powerful enough for gaming at 1440p on any new or demanding game, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you plan on upgrading in the future or plan on building a desktop at some point that is more powerful. Also if you primarily game I would recommend 144hz over 1440p. I would stick with either 1080p 60 hz or 1080p 144hz, but the 1060 probably won't be able to fully use that 144hz on most games. I have the msi gs65, which has 1060 max-q as well, and it has a 1080p 144hz panel in it, and I get 100 fps and above on less demanding games, but any AAA or graphically intensive game struggles to get above 60. My final thoughts before recommendations would be an ips or va panel over a tn, because the response time downgrade is (imo) worth it for the amazing color reproduction. Also at 144hz i find that g-sync and freesync are not that useful and find the additional price not worth it. If you are only gaming and doing competitive games then TN is fine though. Anyway, here are my recommendations

If you aren't into competitive games and want good colors for watching videos and/or photo editing:

1080p 60hz: Dell U2414H

1080p 144hz: Acer ED273

If you are into competitive gaming and want the fastest response time here are a few options:

AOC G2460PF

Viewsonic XG2402

Acer XFA240

u/loganwebby · 1 pointr/Monitors

https://www.amazon.ca/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B075D1B4SV This is a really popular pick and fits under your budget. I actually have one, although it is now my second monitor. My main monitor is a 240hz panel.

The XG2402 is a TN panel, but it seems like you play competitive titles, so I think it is a good fit. There are some IPS panels, but they approach exceeding your budget.

u/Soulshot96 · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Couple options for the 27 inch panel:

Asus MG279Q(IPS Freesync 4ms, 144hz, not as good as the PG, but it's cheaper, and works better with your AMD GPU thanks to freesync): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236466

This Acer(not too pretty imo but 144hz 1ms Freesync and cheap): http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ref=sr_1_1?tag=amazon0606-20&ie=UTF8&qid=1430272001&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+xg270hu+omidpx

If you really want to save money, there is this Asus monitor(24 inches, 144hz, but TN, and only 1080p): http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VG248QE-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/?tag=amazon0606-20

You'll have to look at these monitors for compatibility with Vesa mounts and stuff.

As far as Ultrawides go, that is a bit trickier, you might want to either stretch the budget, or cut into the $600 for the 144hz a bit to get both. I'll post suggestions anyway.

A Dell IPS 1440p ultrawide no freesync though afaik and rather expensive: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-34-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00PXYRMPE?tag=amazon0606-20

Crazy territory here, but this Acer has 75hz, 1440p, ips, freesync and a slick design, but its expensive as hell:
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XR341CK-bmijpphz-34-inch-UltraWide/dp/B0111MRT90/ref=sr_1_15?tag=amazon0606-20&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1436945804&sr=1-15&keywords=3440x1440

And a slightly cheaper but still pricey 1440p ips ultrawide from LG:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025066&cm_re=1440p_ultrawide-_-24-025-066-_-Product

Look through, find some you like that both fit into your $1200 overall budget, make sure they would fit on a mount, find a mount, and go.

u/hashtagImpulse · 1 pointr/Monitors

I would keep the two monitors you have now rather than just getting one super nice one. Or, you could sell one and replace it with a super nice monitor and keep the other AOC 1080p. Does your rig have 4k/1440p capabilities? The ASUS MG MG279Q is nice and about $500. You can find it here https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MG279Q-Screen-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00ZOO348C?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0 and I would get the 1ms version.

u/flyingpj · 1 pointr/Monitors

Two models out there:

Asus VG279Q https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VG279Q-Monitor-FreeSync-Adaptive/dp/B07KXHTRT5

Acer VG271 https://www.amazon.com/Acer-VG271-Pbmiipx-Technology-DisplayHDR400/dp/B07MDXF81K

I just picked up the Acer VG271 last week for $250 on Amazon and I am LOVING it. Until those 24" 1080p 144Hz IPS come out in who knows when, these two monitors are fantastic for a high refresh rate monitor that looks great without killing your video card.

u/bonesda · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Sadly r/monitors does not provide console gamers much love sometimes, but as I've now done the research to be at least a little knowledgeable I'll share what I know.

So the short answer to your question is what you're looking for does not exist in your price range. This is because what you're looking for is a 4k monitor with true HDR at 60 Hz. Those run in the $600-$800 USD range.

The good news is that if you're willing to make a few sacrifices then you may be able to find something.

A bit of knowledge for you, consoles wont output anything over 60Hz so getting a 144Hz monitor is useless. That saves you some money.

Sadly the monitors with "fake" HDR are out of our price range (I've been looking for three months for the same thing you're seeking). Those run $450-$500.

So were left with a 4k monitor running at 60 Hz. I'll link what I've found in our price range. That seem to be worth anything.

  1. ASUS VP28UQG 28 in monitor. Current Amazon price $329.99:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PK4R2H/?coliid=I2JFHR2Q0IYGDM&colid=257OK8USMTMG&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

  2. LG 27UD58-B 27-Inch Monitor. Current Amazon price $297.94:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IRQAYPE/?coliid=I3RNZKMRJCXRLS&colid=257OK8USMTMG&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

The ASUS monitor is a TN monitor so the colors will not be as vibrant but the performance will be better which is what you're looking for in FPS games. The LG is an IPS monitor so it'll have the opposite.

I will be getting the ASUS. Having missed my opportunity earlier this week, I'm waiting to see if Monday brings the price down below the $300 USD price hold again.

I hope this information helps. If something I've said is wrong, hopefully someone will speak up and correct me, but from what I've found, it is accurate.
u/gloomdweller · 16 pointsr/Monitors

Have you considered the Pixio PX7 Prime? https://www.amazon.com/Pixio-FreeSync-Certified-Ultimate-Compatible/dp/B07WGXXV55/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=pixio+px7+prime&qid=1572515569&sr=8-2

It's what I am looking at picking up when I have extra money. 27" 1440p, 165hz IPS, FreeSync/Gsync compatible, uses the same panel as the more expensive Gigabyte Aorus, has a nice height, tilt, swivel stand with no "gamer" aesthetic. Has decent color, contrast, and brightness. I've done a lot of research and for under $400 it seems like the best bet. Cheaper than the LG, and the benefits of an IPS over the TNs you listed.

Hardware Unboxed does a good review of it on YouTube.

I'm going to pick up the QHD version tomorrow. You can't beat benQ build quality. The price is also pretty good. I don't think g synch is that big of a deal. If you are on a budget these variants could be for you. I play cs go and mobas so I don't really need g synch.

Hey ShadowFlame740, I'm not an expert by any means, but here's the one that gets my vote: HP 22CWA

  • Budget: $90/150

  • Prospective Resolution: 1920x1080

  • Size: 21.5"

  • Aspect Ratio: 16:9

  • Adaptive Sync: None

  • Other Features: IPS

Note that I'm not sure the response time and refresh rate are acceptable for games like you listed in your Usage Type, but I did hit all of your nice-to-have's, and you could feasibly have two of these around your budget mark if you really wanted.

    Good luck!
u/Fimconte · 3 pointsr/Monitors

Don't get me wrong. ASUS can make great parts.
But if something goes wrong with those parts,
you'll need a lot of luck to get meaningful help from ASUS.

Hence, why I recommend Acer/Benq/Gigabyte/Sapphire/MSI alternatives to Asus options.

If we go on specs, the MG279Q is a great monitor.
But so is the alternative from Acer, the XF270HU.

And given the choice between the two, I'd go for Acer.

On GPUs, with a 780 that's even more reason to go with the BenQ.
1080p vs 1440p doesn't sound like a huge difference,
but the actual pixel count is ~2.1mil vs 3.7mil or ~1.77x as much.
With a 1440p screen,
a 980 ti/Fury or a multi-gpu solution (2x 290 or 2x 390) is highly recommended to power such a pixel monster.

Stable framerate at 1080p > Fluctuating framerate at 1440p.

u/frostymoose · 37 pointsr/Monitors

Probably neither of them. They both have terrible stands (edit: the xv272u's stand is actually not terrible) and don't seem to offer anything special. Those Acer cheapskates don't even give you more than a HDMI cable to connect with.

The Pixio PX-7 Prime and the LG 27GL83A are slightly more expensive. But I think they are both better choices. The upgrade to the stand is worth it, unless you already have a VESA mount.

The pixio has the same wide gamut as the acer models and will handle motion at least as well - probably better.

The LG will give you better motion handling for gaming - the best of any current IPS monitor.

The Dell is poor colors with noticeable banding poor even for a TN monitor. Despite people recommending this monitor its actually pretty ass. I would try to avoid TN and if you do photoshop you want an IPS or a VA panel.

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/s2719dgf

The Samsung has no Adaptive sync and there are no reviews on the JG50 but it looks like its probably decent.

The Viotek GN27DB is pretty respected as a budget gaming monitor using a Samsung VA panel for the same price as the Dell in the USA.

u/ddusan · 1 pointr/Monitors

I suppose you want a gaming monitor, therefore I'll suggest only 144Hz models.

1440p is usually going for a higher price than $300 but this Viotek comes pretty close and even has a VA panel which has much better colors, contrast and viewing angles than TN monitors.

If you want to spend about $200 you might want to settle for 1080p. In that case I'd go with AOC C24G1 that has PCmonitors recommended badge (review here).

I wouldn't go with a TN monitor unless you plan to do only competitive FPS gaming. The picture quality of TN panels is so bad it's not viable for any other use.

Alienware 25 Gaming Monitor - AW2518Hf, Full HD @ Native 240 Hz, 16:9, 1ms Response Time, DP, HDMI 2.0a, USB 3.0, AMD FreeSync, Tilt, Swivel, Height-Adjustable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733YCKM5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_2zqACbYTWNT8P

1080p but it is 240 hz. Great for esports titles like you mentioned. FreeSync is supported by Nvidia now and the range is 48 to 240. It is $299 at the time of this comment.

u/gameguy32 · 1 pointr/Monitors

Of the two i would pick the MSI because of the lower price and Higher SRGB (basically how many colors it can produce) but if you care about a adjustable stand and RGB lighting you may want the Asus.

FYI if you want to go 1440p this Viotek which is very similar to the other two would be a good option right in the middle of your price range.

u/WillyRJ · 2 pointsr/Monitors

I also have the PX7 and love its 10bit colors IPS. IMO, the difference in the response time between TN vs IPS isn't noticeable at all. Even if it was, the trade-off in picture quality is well worth it. The vast majority of people prefer IPS over TN's response time. Most people don't even notice the difference between 4ms and 1ms. I will never, ever go back to TN panels after having used a nice IPS panel. FYI, check out amazon customer reviews.

u/SpicyCummies · 1 pointr/Monitors

This was one that caught my eye. I can’t honestly say I’m knowledgeable enough on panels to know the differences between VA and IPs. I guess I’d be fine with going VA since a friend of mine got one and he’s definitely satisfied with it.

u/Viralzambacto · 1 pointr/Monitors

I've been trying to find a good 1440p ultrawide as well. I think the Acer XR341CK is a pretty good priced and well spec'd monitor.

u/shadyinternets · 2 pointsr/Monitors

have you considered 1 ultrawide? you would only have to give up the decent refresh rate part as to get 100hz is going to be at least $1,000 if you find a refurb or something.

something like this, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q7VCSGU/ref=psdc_1292115011_t1_B00PXYRMPE

you will be at 60hz but the 1070 should push it nicely.

otherwise you are prob not going to find what you want at that price point, would have to spend a little more for something like https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ref=sr_1_3?

what about something like this? people claim to get it to 85hz, its 1440p, no bezel since ultrawide and not a ton over your budget. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Curved-34-inch-UltraWide-Display/dp/B0111MRT90?

dropping from 1440p to 1080p would also open up more options.

u/dgart01 · 1 pointr/Monitors

If you're ok with 25 inches, you should consider the Dell u2515h [$339 on amazon US] [$350 on NewEgg]. Dell has really good quality control, so you're really unlikely to get any dead pixels. The panel is also color calibrated, so it just looks amazing. The thin bezels, the ability to rotate 90^o, abundance of ports (2 HDMI, 1 Mini Display Port, 1 DisplayPort 1.2, 4 USB 3.0 ports) were also big selling points for me. I got mine in 2015 and it's held up great since.

u/ChunkyThePotato · 1 pointr/Monitors

How big of a deal would TN vs IPS be for me? Last year I purchased this IPS monitor, and the display quality really wasn't an improvement over the TN panels that I've used. Viewing angles aren't that big of a deal to me because I just sit directly in front of the monitor to play games. I feel like TN is better in my case because it's cheaper and has lower response time for games. That's why I think this monitor is the best I can get with its $250 price tag at Best Buy. Am I wrong?

u/hitbarr · 1 pointr/Monitors

Well you would see things much more smoother and most likely less input lag as the monitors you listed. But you would sacrifice good colors for those things. There are good TN panels with good colors but not as good as IPS. If you don't really care about refresh rate then that's fine but I'm just going to say 144hz+ is a blast. Its such an enjoyable experience. If you could look at https://www.amazon.com/Dell-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor-S2719DGF/dp/B00N2L5CXO/ref=sr_1_6?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0Z-l5d-W4gIVmaqWCh232A0VEAAYAiAAEgK7VPD_BwE&hvadid=338634214018&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9011303&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t2&hvqmt=b&hvrand=562231031654960391&hvtargid=kwd-375814786260&hydadcr=730_1012416378&keywords=dell+1440p+144hz+monitor&qid=1557690098&s=gateway&sr=8-6 its a really good monitor you can overclock the refresh rate to 155hz. I've seen nothing but good reviews on it.

I recently bought this Acer V277U, 1440p, IPS monitor. Its pretty great, with good blacks and no IPS bleed.
The only downside that I felt is the stand is pretty basic and doesn't offer any adjustments

That one's pretty good, not that I recommend 27" 1080p but if it's the one you think will be the best for your usage, go for it.

Only thing you have to do to it is adjust the settings to get the best color out of it. Other than that, it should be a reliable monitor.

You can get a stationery monitor mount, which allows you to pull the screen closer, tilt, and rotate, but doesn't allow individual height adjustment for each monitor such as this.

Or you can get three individual mounts, which allow full mobility (up, down, closer, farther, & rotate) such as this.

There's double/triple versions of these as well. Double. Or Triple.

Good brands include: Ergotron, Ergrotech, VIVO, & Amazon's version. Mount-It and Cable Matters both make some as well, but I haven't used these ever.

I don't see a real need to get another 1440p screen honestly. Especially since it's just your side panel and being cheaper you could get 2x 1080p screens and have a lot of screen real estate. If you strictly want 2 panels only, then I could understand going 1440p I suppose. I'd think 4k would be better though since you could watch 4k movies on that, and use your main monitor for gaming.

like $170 for that 4k ips screen 27" it know you were saying you only wanted around 24" but having 2 27" screens with the option to do some games @ 1440p for higher frame rates and some @4k along with movies would be a nice choice to have at your fingertips.

u/LuringSquatch · 1 pointr/Monitors

Just an FYI, if you are wanting to go FHD I would go with a 24 inch monitor. After that, the pixels are spread and 27 inches at 1080p looks awful. If you want a 27 inch monitor, go 1440p. You can get them at a decent price nowadays.

You can get a 2k Monitor, 144hz for around $300.

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor-S2719DGF/dp/B00N2L5CXO/ref=sr_1_1?crid=260GX74UZVLDH&keywords=dell+s2719dgf&qid=1574768231&sprefix=dell+s%2Caps%2C140&sr=8-1

One of the best 1440p Monitors there is. I am on my second one and never had a problem (Broke my screen on accident). It is also on sale for $290.

No reason to go with G-Sync since NVIDIA supports it on Non G-Sync Monitors. The Dell S2719DGF is compatible.

EDIT: You have a 2080 Super, go with 1440p. This card would be beyond overkill for FHD.

u/NerdPunkFu · 1 pointr/Monitors

For a general purpose displays, I'd recommend looking at Dell and BenQ. They generally offer consistently good quality with good costumer support. Some specific monitors to consider:

u/insurmntable · 1 pointr/Monitors

Hey, I have the exact same card and also planning to upgrade from my regular old 1080p 60hz BenQs. I have done quite a lot of research and have come to the conclusion, that starting from around 350$ adaptive sync is essentially a must-have if planning on any kind of gaming and futureproofing. As far as I know there are no additions needed to use FreeSync other than plug it in and turn it on from the monitor settings besides connecting your monitor via DisplayPort (or DVI aswell?).

In my opinion the best price to performance value monitor is the last one you mentioned, after weeks of searching I have not found anything close to these specs and that pricepoint. The only caveat with that particular model seems to be that the stand does not have a height adjustment or the VESA mounting points. Also the panel is a TN, rather than an IPS, so if the latter is preferred, add another ~100$ to the monitor's price and get either this:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF270HU-27-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B0173PEX34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468906554&sr=8-1&keywords=xf270hu

or this:

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MG279Q-Screen-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00ZOO348C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468906650&sr=8-1&keywords=MG279Q

One other possibility for TN screens is the BenQ XL2730Z, which is ~80$ more, but has a sturdy stand, height adjustment and VESA mounting points:

https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2730Z-Monitor-Resolution-FreeSync/dp/B00TUK9D9K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468907000&sr=8-1&keywords=xl2730z

If you're adamant about the 300$ range, you will probably have to choose 2 of 3 from FreeSync/144Hz/1440p. I have seen people recommending this:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2401-DisplayPort-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B01A0ZRR50/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468907327&sr=8-1&keywords=XG2401

or the LG you mentioned:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468881176&sr=1-2&keywords=ultrawide+lg+29

Also when updating I am planning on still using my 24" 1080p one and possibly my 22" beside it aswell. The upgrade to 1440p should be quite noticeable aswell, particularly if going for a 144hz FreeSync model. The PPI will stay roughly the same, but there is more screen real estate.

If anyone has any information about any upcoming 1440p 144Hz FreeSync monitors or if I missed a particularly good one, then let me know aswell, thanks.

u/mrblanco11 · 1 pointr/Monitors

I'm also an engineer and honestly having two monitors is really helpful for CAD and programming. I picked up two AOC 23" 1080p IPS monitors. The exact model is i2367Fh. Thin bezels, 5ms response. Got both of mine off craigslist for $180 but you can get them brand new right now on Amazon for $260. To connect both monitors I recommend one to run off HDMI and use the eBerry usb 3.0 to VGA for the other. I use it and it works great. Try to find it on eBay for ~$10 if you can.

You could also get 2 of the I2267FW. Same thing as the one above but no HDMI connection, 1 inch smaller, and no speakers. Two of those will run you $200. You will however, need 2 of the eBerry's. Still will come under your $250 limit and can grab some cheap speakers if you need them.

TN panels should not get burn-in any more. I'd immediately return it. Buy a different brand too, if possible. There are many good Freesync QHD panels out there.

Food for thought: Personally I'd just add in the extra $70 and get a 27" VA panel. The VIOTEK GN27D seems pretty legit. It matches & exceeds your current specs. I don't know it and haven't read any reviews on it, though, but it looks great on paper.

u/IdRaptor · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Let me lay out the competition:
ViewSonic XG2703-GS (4ms)
ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q (4ms)
Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz (4ms)

Here's the deal, I've never heard of an IPS panel with an advertised sub 4ms response time. I don't think they exist. If you can manage to dredge one up from the depths I can guarantee it's either manipulative marketing, or a professional grade monitor which costs far more than a grand.

From what I've heard response time itself is primarily marketing BS when provided without the input lag (which conveniently no monitor manufacturers seem to provide).

Without both input lag and response times you don't have the full set of information to determine the actual amount of time it takes to propagate an image to the screen after an action, so there's not much to be gained from comparing a few milliseconds.

Text and such will be somewhat smaller, but not quite as small as on the macbook screen itself. So as long as you don't mind that, it might be a good option.

I do own 3 other 240hz monitors but I do think the best one for your price point is this

u/Blurpro395 · 1 pointr/Monitors

Well then, if your budget is 280, you have a lot of room. For GTA and the other games you play besides CS:GO, I reckon you will want something with at least decent picture quality. I'm saying this because the VG248QE is not worth $279.

While researching a bit, this monitor looks very promising: https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-Response-eQualizer-Adjustable-XL2411P/dp/B01H5KKQTM?th=1

u/MeRollsta · 1 pointr/Monitors

Here you go:

TN 144 Hz Panels:

  • Acer XG270HU (sold for $300 on Black Friday)

  • BenQ XL2730Z

    IPS 144 Hz Panels:

  • Acer XB271HU It was just released, so only Amazon has stock popping up every now and then.

  • Acer XB270HU

  • Acer XF270HU

Note that the TN panels color production isn't as good as IPS Panels, but the ones which i mentioned are native 8-bit panels, so they're much better than your typical TN panel.

Btw, which graphic card do you use? If you're using AMD, you would want to go for a Freesync display. If you have Nvidia, then go for a G-Sync display.

I've got a friend with two of these. They look pretty decent.

Don't be scared to upgrade your computer. As long as it's not a super compact build, swapping out a graphics card should be pretty straightforward. You can find many tutorials and guides on youtube on how to replace a graphics card.
Here's a guide by Linus Tech Tips on installing graphics cards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyDxrTHDjXQ.
I would recommend a gtx 1080 or 1070 ti for high framerate 1440p gaming.
The acer xb1 monitors are relatively inexpensive g-sync monitors, coming in several configurations: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N11QIYW/?coliid=I3TG2AGJYQR75C&colid=1B3MPQKLGUEYF&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1.

Yeah, 144hz is the balls. I've got a BenQ XL211T as a secondary monitor that I've had for a couple of years and it's great. See if that's in a similar price range. (No freesync tho)

ACER Nitro VG240Y Pbiip (same panel) has already been on the market and for sale. It's been on Amazon.com for over a month by now I think (longer in markets like China. People have bought it and already posted impressions on this subreddit.

The AOC will likely be more expensive due to the better stand (height adjustment).

u/ParkerPetrov · 3 pointsr/Monitors

I would probably go with the following as the color looked pretty good for a tn panel when I saw it. I only tested it in store, so i have no longterm usage data. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor-S2719DGF/dp/B00N2L5CXO

A lot are on the 1440p @ 144hz so if you're after 1080p it'll be really cheap. So the world is your oyster at your price point lol.

BenQ has great color accuracy so your games and movies would look nice.

I just picked up a pair of the Pixio PX7 Prime -- $430 USD

My basis for comparison is an almost-decade-old 1080p 60hz IPS, but I've been real happy with these so far.

u/MythicalPigeon · 1 pointr/Monitors

I wish I could help more, but I've never really researched 1440p 60hz monitors very much (I've also not researched 4k very much to be honest), so I'm not all that knowledgeable on them.

The one that I've heard most about is the Dell U2515H Although it might be out of your price range, but I'm not sure you will get a good one at $200.

u/NickingNinaj · 2 pointsr/Monitors

This is very helpful, thanks! I had considered it but the 8ms response time initially had me rule it out. After reading the review you so kindly linked, I'm definitely considering this monitor now.
I'm a bit torn between the Dell you linked, this ASUS, and this BenQ.

u/yoonj93 · 5 pointsr/Monitors

Neither. The ViewSonic XG2401 or newer XG2402 are much better monitors than those listed. Amazing (if not best for 1080p tn panels) colors, also freesync.

Edit: I see I was downvoted-- could whoever did so elaborate as to why?

u/Bebmak · 1 pointr/Monitors

It probably has better colors than your old monitor if that helps, but as i said its main features are not colors as it has a TN panel. There is also a new ips 24 inch 144 hz monitor it came out couple of days ago so there are no reviews for it. It would be the best if you went out and checked the monitors in person if you have that option.

u/AnishSR · 1 pointr/Monitors

Well, I would like about $200. I don't care for Vesa Mounts or slim bezels, or IPS, but all those features are nice to have. I was actually thinking of this monitor. Your opinion? Also, I am thinking of getting two more monitors at a later date for some serious Battlefielding.

u/superjujubii · 1 pointr/Monitors

i see the 25xw recommended a bit. is there a similar performant monitor that can be mounted on with something like this http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Single-Monitor-Display-Mounting/dp/B00MIBN16O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452278254&sr=8-2&keywords=amazon+basics+monitor+mount

the 25xw doesn't look like it has support for this

u/radwatch · 1 pointr/Monitors

It really depends on what you want and your current setup.

The MG has a higher resolution and an IPS panel, which should provide better color and viewing angles.
It has really good reviews, but quality control is not very good. They even pulled it from stock on amazon. But if you get a good one, you won't be disappointed.

The VG has a TN panel and a lower resolution, so if you rig can't do 1440p at 144hz I would go with this monitor.

If you want another 1440p IPS monitor to consider I just recently purchased this Acer

u/TrueDiligence · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Not much point in a high refresh rate 4k monitor right now. You are not going to have enough GPU horsepower to drive that many pixels in AAA titles. In competitive games it is more beneficial to have high refresh rate and lower resolution for a smoother playing experience, professional gamers are currently switching to 240hz 1080p monitors.

Currently the best gaming experience (within reason) can be had on a 144hz+ 1440p IPS G-Sync monitor paired with a GTX 1080Ti. Your options there are as follows:

Viewsonic XG2703

Asus PG279q

Acer XB271HU

AOC AG271QG

If there are anymore out there I'm sure someone will chime in, but those are all that I know of for now.

u/TheDrinkerOfInfinity · 1 pointr/Monitors

I find I end up with a lot of eye fatigue after using the computer for a long time.

If you are using OSX one thing you can do is turn on negative viewing mode with the following keys.

Control + Option + Command + 8

If you have no issues with fatigue and just want a bigger screen, there are different types of IPS with matte and glossy finishes. Choose depending on your environment.

I have this monitor and I like it very much. Reasonably priced, mounting options, adjustment options, etc etc.
It is a matte screen in case your reading environment is very bright.
The monitor itself is pretty bright out of the box.

Although if you are just using it for reading I'm sure you could go much cheaper.

Whether you want one or multiple depends on what you're doing. If you want multitasking for coding or something, I think double/triple monitors is a better setup. If you're mostly gaming/browsing, one is sufficient.

This looks like its an upgrade from this AOC monitor, and actually seems like a decent upgrade. I didn't buy the monitor I just listed because of the lack of mounting and Display port. If the price of the i2369Vm comes down to the price of the i2367Fh I would definitely buy one.

I've also got some vision impairment in one eye from a detached retina years ago. There is an amazon basics branded arm which I use and I believe would fit your needs. It will extend about 24 inches and you can move it just about anyway you can imagine. Also has a clamp that will work as long as your desk is at least half an inch thick.

You might need some help setting it up because the resistance screws can be a little hard to find.

u/M3cha · 1 pointr/Monitors

$500ish? You won't be able to get 120/144Hz at 1440p with an IPS display for cheap.

You can get this ASUS monitor for around $400. 27", IPS, 60Hz, 2560x1440. You can get Dell's 25" offering for a similar price. Dell's 27 inch offering is a little over $500, if I remember correctly.

ASUS offers this MG279Q for a little over $600 when all is said and done. This might be your best bet. Acer offers this one, with GSync instead of the previous monitor's FreeSync for $700.

Edit: All of these monitors are IPS. If you want to go TN, I bet the choices will bloom and the prices will lower.

These two are going to be the best under $500, both are 1440 27" 144hz. If you plan on using a PS4 a lot, I wouldnt advise getting 1440. 1080 at 240hz may be your best bet for PS4/PC use, either that or 4k 75hz+. I prefer a higher refresh rate over resolution but if you do choose 1080 240hz id say get a 24".

Thank you, that makes sense. After browsing a bit, I have another question about a specific monitor, do you know anything about the quality of this one? I think it’s a TN monitor, but if it was IPS I think I would get it. From my understanding, if I want truer colors, IPS is the way to go. Not sure how TN would look, but this monitor is more within my price range.

Other than the banding issues the Dell is a great monitor.

It's awesome for gaming , really great but I cant say same thing about colors and watching movies/series.Also please be aware that when you get a 1440p monitor, the 1080p content will not look as sharp as it should be. if csgo and overwatch are you main focus and you play at a decent rank or just take it serious id recommend this monitor at first it will look awful out of the box you will need to tweak the settings, for csgo and ow i use fps1 with mostly nikos settings you can find here and then for general use i use srgb mode at 60% brightness

Sorry I didn't notice you wanted 1ms. AD27QD is probably the best you can get but it's slightly over your budget. If you don't care IPS you have alternatives at the cost of image quality and/or color accuracy but it shouldn't be a problem since you have mentioned 144Hz and I guess you would use this monitor purely for gaming.
