I would like to mention one thing - If you buy a Amazon ad filled Moto G4 @ $150, you can later pay an additional $50 to remove the ads through amazon. So if you want to absolutely buy it new, and your firm on $150 now, you can with ads from amazon, and if you have some money later and you want, you can opt out of them buy paying for it. You MIGHT be able to do some software magic to get rid of the ads, but I think amazon fixed that so you can't now.

Now to answer if I think it's worth it.

For me it's worth it. I would 100% buy refurbished from Amazon over ANY second hand or used item from Craigs' list or used cell phone sale sites.

Pros - Refurbished items are usually NEW, just sent back because of a defect. They should look and operate as if they're new after the referb, with the same life span as if it was new, as what ever defect it had got fixed with new parts. Usually the process of refurbishing goes through more steps than a new product, they test to make sure they actually fully function before they go back to sell. From Amazon you have a 90 day minimum warranty.

Cons - Probably only going to get a 90 day warranty. Probably won't get the original packaging. It might not look 100% new from being handled buy a few folks before you.

I am getting one here tomorrow, so I will let you know if it looks and works like new if you want.

Also to note, I am going to be rooting and putting on a custom rom after I know, or am reasonably sure my phone's hardware is working, and by doing so it will void the warranty, even if I bought it brand new. So if it looks feels and acts new, for me, knowing full well that I'm going to void the warranty later by rooting, why not save $50? If I don't like it when it gets here, with amazon I can send it back. <3 Amazon. If your willing to take the small risk that you might not like your referb and have to send it back to try another or simply get your money back it's up to you. But for me it's worth it.

I bought the TUDIA lightweight case ($10.99 USD on Amazon), and it covers the bump perfectly to create a nice, flat back surface. And since it's lightweight, it hardly feels like there's a case at all. In fact, apart from the increased phone size, it feels a lot like my Moto G 1st Gen.

Note that this is the first case I've ever owned. I never really cared to use one in the past, but I bought this specifically to alleviate my concerns about the camera bump, and I can say that I'm 100% satisfied. (An added bonus is that it makes the phone totally black, since I don't particularly like the "lunar gray" or "fine gold" colors that the phone comes in.)

I didn't know uag made a case for the g5. But anyway, I have bought 4 different cased for my g5 and the poetic revolution is by far the best. It has an excellent fit and finish. It gives the phone more protection than the others that I have tried as well. The only thing I don't like is the built in screen protector. I don't care for any built in protectors. So I put a tempered glass protector on and used a sharp knife to rove the built in protector. It works great. I've had good luck with Tudia cases. They're not too bulky, and the TPU inner shell is thick enough at the corners and the ends to absorb a typical drop impact. The hard shell and the soft shell fit together pretty well, and the cases have a nice look and feel IMO.

Hi, I got the Sparin 2-pack and successfully installed it without trapping any dust particle.
The touch is smooth, colors, brightness etc everything worked great.

Wondering the same thing.

Also, regular G7 (with Alexa) is $200 or $230 at Best Buy.

From this writeup, it sounds like the Amazon add-ons are pretty low risk / easy to ignore if you don't want them.

TL;DR - I don't think we'll know what'll happen in a year or two. I don't even know what'll happen tomorrow. I -hope- it'll last 2 years, and as yet I don't see any reason why it wouldn't.

---------

Plenty of phones develop issues after a while. The Nexus 5X and 6P had bootloop and battery issues that many encountered. I don't think when those devices first came out people expected them to do such things. I'm still rocking an Nexus7 years later (though it has its own issues, that I've tried to work around—charging port is loose, so I use wireless (Qi) charging, and the power button is finicky, so I have an app to power down, and a case with a magnet that'll put it to sleep.)

Specifically for the Moto line, you can check out these "year later reviews" for the Moto G3 and Moto G4, and they seem to still be doing pretty well. And like /u/gardobus said, most people on forums and who write reviews are either very very happy, or very very angry, and fairly few inbetween. And the people who have issues are often the loudest.

I will say I would have preferred a USB-C port on the device, but the MicroUSB still does pretty well (but when its plugged in, don't move it around too much—maybe plug it in overnight, or if you are paranoid, use the quick charger included and charge it before you go to bed, and unplug it before you actually go to sleep). And get a screen protector or case, since I've found that even just a little case can make a big difference in the life and longevity or your device.

I'm ordering it from Amazon US and a third party shipping company. It's $179 and $199 for the 8GB and 16GB models respectively with free US shipping.

I would have to pay $250 if I purchased the 8GB model.

I use a TUDIA TPU case. It's thin, but helps flatten the camera bump in the back. My only qualm was it was a little slippery at first. With a little use, it's sticky enough to have a good grip.

u/bastiano-precioso · 1 pointr/MotoG

I personally have a Samzer but it's quite slim, and if you're looking for something bulky and protective there is always the Otterbox.
I got my dad one of these rugged cases with a stand on and feels quite bulky and nice.

Mine: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GOVS0Q0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My dad's: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HEMKN9K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These are not expensive or anything, but if you want some real quality go check the Otterbox.

AFAIK, there's no official shell grip like the older 2nd and 3rd gen models. but in the Amazon's "Customers who bought this item also bought" section of Moto G5 Plus' product page, you'll find many good suggestions.

https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-XT1926-7-Unlocked-Smartphone-International/dp/B07CHWMYHP/

It is for the US, and is sold by Mobiles International LLC (which I believe is an authorised seller).

Comes with no warranty though, and is not compatible with CDMA carriers like Verizon or Sprint (GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile are okay). Might be worth noting.

u/Diazepam · 1 pointr/MotoG

I have this one, so would this flashing process work for me?

Thanks.

u/ChallengeResponse · 2 pointsr/MotoG

A. I'm seeing it for $90

B. It's the Boost Mobile 8GB CDMA version, so really its only a $10 discount (not the $119 discount they claim):

u/xdegen · 2 pointsr/MotoG

Here's the case I use. Very thin and light.

As for screen protectors, I used this but it's a fingerprint magnet regardless of what it says, and is highly reflective due to being a non-matte tempered glass protector. No bubbles in my experience though, as the installation was unusual, but it worked great to prevent bubbles from surfacing.

If you want no fingerprints and to reduce reflection, get a screen protector with a "matte" look to it.

Are you talking about this one ----- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorola-Moto-Stock-Smartphone-XT1068-Black/dp/B00NBSZ56C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410966955&sr=8-1&keywords=moto+g?

It's the only one I can find on the site and after talking to the amazon customer suport they said it wouldn't work with my provider...

u/tenbsmith · 1 pointr/MotoG

Okay, so worth paying more for this G7 with 4GB RAM on sale for $199, https://www.amazon.com/Moto-G7-Alexa-Hands-Free-Unlocked/dp/B07N92347B I seem to recall seeing similar pricing for this phone elsewhere (Best Buy?).

My sons break phones, so I like getting inexpensive ones. I wouldn't call the G6 cheap exactly. It's quality for the price.

Poetic Revolution Moto G5 Plus Rugged Case With Hybrid Heavy Duty Protection and Built-In Screen Protector for Motorola Moto G5 Plus (2017) Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XCP12HS/

I use a case very similar to this for my moto g4 and it's awesome. It can be a pain to put the case on so prob a good idea to install your sim and micro sd first before placing the phone into the case.

EDIT-stripped referral id from url.

u/G-moto · 1 pointr/MotoG

I bought the 16GB version back in June, when Amazon had it on sale for $125. it's been okay, but if it is hot outside, you use a case, and you play a CPU-intensive game for 20 minutes or so, and then want to shoot video, it may crash on you. happened more than once to me, and it wasn't even all that hot out, less than 90°F.

but for $125 phone, it's pretty good. it doesn't excel at anything, but it's not really terrible in any one area either. My biggest complaint is the battery life is not great. I am not a heavy user of the phone, maybe 20 minutes of games a day, 30 minutes of Bluetooth streaming music, typically no phone calls, a handful of text messages, and it can't make it from 0800 to 2200 before the battery gives out. My lower-end LG phone, which was cheaper at the time of purchase, still has better battery life with the same demands. I'm on T-Mobile, and their LTE coverage in my city, and especially my workplace, is iffy, so that may be part of the problem.

u/KobraX22 · 3 pointsr/MotoG

US GSM or
Gobal GSM? They are both there for me.

There is no such thing as the "Amazon model", Amazon is just a retailer.

u/jedinatt · 2 pointsr/MotoG

I could have bought one last night for $12 + shipping. I bought one of these instead: http://www.amazon.com/Amzer-Pudding-Cover-Motorola-XT1032/dp/B00GOVS0Q0/

I don't like the fact that the grip shell is completely reliant on its rubbery sides--no snap in. I've read there can be some creaking/give in the back panel, and I'd think the integrity of the rubber pressure as an attaching mechanism would deteriorate over time.

u/gnza · 1 pointr/MotoG

Same prices on Amazon, $199 for the 16GB version, $229 for 32GB

G6 Plus international version XT1926-7 is an option also. Don't qoute me on model number.

Update... checked number and it's correct.

u/Roygbiv856 · 3 pointsr/MotoG

I can't recommend the grip shell enough. I've had it in three colors I like it so much. Adds protection, but not bulk.

u/nandhp · 1 pointr/MotoG

For what it's worth, it looks like there's a marketplace seller on Amazon selling the Virgin Mobile version for $99: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B017HW9DEW/ -- I don't know anything about the seller, but you might be able to save $30 that way.

Unfortunately (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), I don't think you can use the retail version on CDMA networks like Virgin Mobile, so you'd be stuck with this model. Cricket I don't think has that problem, though.

u/jdyubergeek · 1 pointr/MotoG

Installed one of these yesterday. Was painless, looks decent, works well on my g4 plus.

Edit: wrong link at first

u/Defcraz · 2 pointsr/MotoG

Import it from Canada.
I'm in Canada and I wanted the G5+ (we only got the G5 here) so I had to get it from the Amazon US site.
You'll have to pay custum duties unfortunately, but with the exchange rate it will come cheap.

That "tudia" brand is apparently coming out with some at the end of the month:

http://www.amazon.com/TUDIA-Bumper-Protective-Motorola-Released/dp/B00NKZB5QA/

There's a couple of other ones, but I'm not sure if they're actually for the 2nd gen (the pictures show a 1st gen one...).

u/MaihnYOU · 2 pointsr/MotoG

If you dont have luck installing this you can try out the Android L keyboard. It's just as fast as the google keyboard, except it looks cooler.

u/Slip_Freudian · 9 pointsr/MotoG

I have the same one.

Here: Spigen Rugged Armor Moto G5 Plus Case with Resilient Shock Absorption and Carbon Fiber Design for Moto G5 Plus - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XD1K5S6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5tofAbP1TK28N

u/hasaneysin · 2 pointsr/MotoG

This is the case I have:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073XBGHL9/

I got the gravel black, it has a grippy texture and is very thin.

And this is the screen protector:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XDMD7WK/

I have no complaints about it.

u/yaconsult · 2 pointsr/MotoG

No, you can't do it. That's why some of us never upgraded - they keep taking stuff out. First the notification light, then the gyroscope. The moto display bullshit is NOT the same, no matter what they say.

My xt1045 has a notification light that I can control but it's only white. My next phone must have a colored notification light or it's no sale! Hell, even this $110 phone has a colored notification light and 2 GB of ram: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F9N5QXI/. The equivalent Moto G has no light and costs $200: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EZC9WC0/
