I would advise a Bahco socket set over the Halfords offering. I have this one, much better quality in my opinion, less stuff you'll never use and 6 sided sockets rather than 12.

Buy some paraffin for chain cleaning- i use a garden spray bottle to apply and a rag to clean the chain off. I've tried toothbrushes but they only seem to move the shit around rather than removing it.
80w90 gear oil is good for lube, I also like the Wurth stuff.

Enjoy your 125 and best of luck with the DAS.

I bought one of these (you'll find it cheaper than amazon) Givi S957B Waterproof Smart Phone Holder For Motorcycle Handlebar iPhone/Galaxy https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B010E68GIW/

It clips in with a reassuring click, the angle is easily adjustable but it doesn't move around at motorway speed (my bike has a screen if it makes a difference). It also has a Velcro strap that wraps round the handlebar as a failsafe.

Easy to remove at petrol stations and has a hole for your charger lead. It also has a waterproof cover.

I normally spend hours researching things before buying the cheapest tat available :o) . Not sure what convinced me to spend a bit more on this one, but I've been pleased with it.

If your work will allow, you can buy a boot and glove dryer. I have two of these, one at home and one at the office. They sufficiently dry my gloves and boots while at work (mostly) and don't actually consume too much electricity. The one at home also sits under my jacket hook, and the warm air helps dry that out too.

Plus as others have said, a waterproof overall works great. I bought a waterproof set at Aldi and honestly it works great. I can commute 45 minutes in the pissing down rain, I hang my waterproofs up in our shower room, my bike jacket and bottoms up in the courtroom, and my jeans + work gear underneath is dry.

I had the Alpinestars Daystar kit and it was ok for short periods. Anything more than an hour in reasonable rain and it would leak.

I've now got the Richa Cyclone kit, its full Goretex and is reasonably priced and far better.

Or you could go for a cheap set of leathers and a one/two piece oversuit to keep you dry - this is sometimes easier if you're commuting as the suit is far easier to dry in an office than textiles.

Headset - one of these. Absolutely excellent for the price.

I worked out a good solution to this.

I have a cupboard under the stairs, where the gas meters etc are. I got a small dehumidifier, and hung a pole across the ceiling.

The wet bike gear just goes in there, dehum on, and it will be pretty much dry in about 4 hours.

Much gentler than putting it on a radiator as well.

[edit] this is the one I have. https://www.amazon.co.uk/DeLonghi-Compact-Dehumidifier-DEM10-Grey/dp/B000BP81DW/ref=sr_1_1

If you are lazy and don't want to harm or scuff the surrounding paint, Hammerite make this gel and it's pretty tame. I've never had it react with paint but always best to check first.
Then put a layer of wax or acf50 over it because it'll flash rust if you don't. Needs a couple of applications and a soft bristle brush to do its magic though.

I'm definitely going for the cheapest camera that is still HD quality and waterproof. E.g: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073WWSYJK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AGFQ4N3973X2N&psc=1

There's a vent in the chin of the BX-1 that'd be good to keep air flow into. I see people with them mounted on the side and wondered how that worked, so it's adhesive and an arm?

Cameras right on the top look a bit silly. But I'm going for function over fashion.

I hadn't thought of a rear facing camera, is that common or is it seen as over cautious? I guess if someone goes into the back of you that'd be clear from the helmet cam when you look around, no?

I cleaned up and repainted my YBR's exhaust a few months ago.

I took the entire exhaust off, and then used a drill with a wire brush attachment to take off as much surface rust as possible.

I then left it for a day in a rust remover solution to get rid of the finer aspects and leave me with a smoother surface.

Crack out some sandpaper, smooth the surface of the exhaust down to try and get an even finish.

Then use some VHT Paint to cover it over again.

Rathe simple but very satisfying, makes a huge difference to the bike's aesthetics.

I can't give a recommendation on a specific case, I don't have any experience with the OnePlus 3. but from personal experience I'd say you definitely want to go with a case that has a 'hard' plastic front, rather than something flimsy like this. What you might find is that in any amount of sun or sun/water combo can sometimes make it really hard to see through, because of the light reflecting from the different angles.

I used to have RSI on the right hand thx to life in front of a keyboard and mice, I switched to the only product I'm happy to use from Mikisoft, Natural keyboard 4k, and Kensington trackballs and that fixed it. Unfortunately new rage in companies is hot-desking and I really can't carry my spare ergo keyboard in my backpack at the back of the bike so the RSI might return soon. :( At home it's a permanent fixture.

Re Powerball, GF was using it but I haven't seen it for a long time, I'll check it again. Feels like snake-oil to me. Natural Keyboard really works, I'm typing this on a plain old Dell laptop and my wrists really feel unnatural by the bending. I've developed a typing style lately so that I don't have to, but I used to be a multi-finger touch-typist (and still am) and it's really annoying me...

If MS develops a less bulky version of its 4k keyboard, I'd be the first in the queue to buy one.

Anker Wireless Headphones, Upgraded SoundBuds Slim Workout Headphones Magnetic In-Ear Earbuds, Bluetooth 5.0, 10-Hour Playtime, IPX7 Waterproof for Workouts, Running, Swimming, Gym, Work, Home https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07N8RYGC4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_dILCDbN8RD3XG

I've been using these, they're pretty perfect - unobtrusive, block out noise akin to earbuds, no fuss, easy to charge, waterproof etc. Downside: no voice control, just earphones.

First of all, congratulations -- love it in red.

I had an Yamaha MT-125 until very recently, it's a brother bike to yours, so same dimensions basically.
I bought a JDC waterproof cover (not sure if Rain or Ultimate Rain though) -- very decent and sturdy, definitely waterproof and has holes either end to loop a chain/disk lock through.

I got a Givi phone mount, on the more expensive side, but definitely not flimsy, overall quality is what you pay for here. The only somewhat annoying thing to mention is that to get it absolutely waterproof, they include a kind of an additional sheath you have to slide over the holder when it's really pissing it down -- normally it'll probably be water-resistant. But hey ho, should have no issue carrying it around with you.

I used a pretty cheapy alarm from these guys, but on a lower sensitivity setting it does the job really well.

Jeff Noon wrote a book called Automated Alice which is a trequel to the two Alice books written by Lewis Caroll.

In her adventures Alice soon encounters a part-man, part-badger named Captain Ramshackle, Professor of Randomology, and the fictional entity I have used as my username.

It does not refer to the Indie Night that used to happen in the Carling Academy in Birmingham in the early 2000s even though I went there quite a lot.

What snaffu? If google maps can't do it, a sat nav can't do it. Google Maps, one of these and a bluetooth headset like this are the ultimate sat nav solution. Seriously this blows any Tom Tom/Garmin out of the water.

Better one for the money, 6 sided sockets, flare wrenches, more 1/4" stuff. Bahco are used in industry a lot, basically bluepoint quality without the pricetag

Used to borrow a Halfords pro set before I bought my own but went bahco because the 12 sided sockets are just wank.

I use a Lowepro Compurover I think its discontinued now as had it since 08-09ish, small dry bags for the cameras if the weather is foul and a large one that takes my lighting bag I strap that leaning up against the top box one bungie around the Givi and two more around pillion handles, takes three flashes, radio triggers, stands & umbrella etc..

Motorcycle roadcraft: the police rider's handbook https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0117081884/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_-I8YCbCXS95EM

^ I think that book has all the answers.

u/po2gdHaeKaYk · 2 pointsr/MotoUK

Hey, I did have a look at the 12V compressors --- did you have any recommendations? Stop-n-go have a compressor kit but it's quite overpriced compared to the US prices...probably because it's imported from the US.

It's my Sat Nav, not phone and I live in Gloucestershire, South West England.

If you don't want to take the lining off of the helmet, get some of the hooky velco strips to stick to the cloth. My speakers ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/FreedConn-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Communication-Interphone-1BIF002/dp/B00PKECDXI ) came with the hooks already on and they just stick to the inside of the helmet.

u/otterdroppings · 1 pointr/MotoUK

This is the one I use: Im not a fan of C02 canisters. Cheaper versions of the kit have C02's.

> Any tips as to how to accurately measure the distance between pivot and tip of the swingarm

This isn't really the important measurement - you want the chain to be straight, and there's a few alignment tools for that:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Car-Tools-Equipment/Laser-5051-Motorcycle-Chain-Alignment-Tool/B004499M20/

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-MS005-Motorcycle-Chain-Alignment/dp/B008H144EC/

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Motion-Pro-08-0048-Chain-Alignment/dp/B000GTVOJQ

How did you realise the markings were off? I don't really understand what your response is that would involve a loose nut.

u/DrOctononamous · 1 pointr/MotoUK

I have this go pro knock off: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073WWSYJK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9B8JDb9Z5TZHX

Does the trick for the price. Records for about 1hr30min but comes with two batteries.

Sound isn't great I will admit, but I haven't played with it much, I just wanted it to have proof of anything happened!

Can't fault it for the price, and if anything happens, for that price, I'm not bothered!!

Forced air boot dryer, shoe dryer, and glove dryer works simultaneously on up to four garments https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LZEF17K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gAM3Db78RQDHPP

It really does the trick, while my feet may have remained dry the boots would be entirely soaked so this has plenty of room to circulate air and it can also hold gloves.
