I love Fortune Cookie Soap's massage bar (PJP All of the things) as a cuticle butter. In winter I mix it with Badger Balm Cuticle Care 60% / 40%. I think they might have discontinued the bar though.
Love and Leche Lotion bars are a non greasy alternative.
Trader Joe's Head to Toe Balm is a bit greasy but great for winter.
I was using Mango Oil to help cure my nails but I'm allergic to it, so now I'm using Sacred Earth Massage Oil Blend because I have it. I'll probably switch to sunflower or jojoba oil once it's empty.
I tend to use whatever's going on my face or chest on my hands or cuticles and that's helped keep them healthy. I love Mizon's snail line and Skinfood's Lettiuce and Cucumber.
I use a glass file and always seal my tips per Loodie's method.
I love Blue Cross cuticle remover with an orangewood stick. I'll usually use a bit after I do cleanup as well. Eucerin Advanced Repair Foot Cream also works well to clean up cuticles as it has urea in it.
About 9 years of trial and error. I have beautiful nails now, makes me so happy. :)
Hope this helps!
I've been using this lamp (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N0BCN9B) for almost a year now and absolutely love it.
For the polygel, I went with this one (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076B9CBVZ) because it had excellent reviews and it was great to have everything I needed to do my nails, except slip solution and dehydrator. I used alcohol (100%) as slip and I had my own dehydrator.
I just bought this kit (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RY99LXY/) to try next as it was a bit cheaper and I wanted to see if it's easier to work with the slip solution or not (kit comes with everything).
Happy to answer any questions you may have if it helps you save some time and not make the mistakes I made as a first timer. I'm still happy as heck with the results and can't stop staring at my nails. Lol
First things first - you've got to hydrate those puppies. Take a small bowl and heat up a tablespoon of coconut oil in the microwave. You can add a number of different oils to it; I use jojoba and olive oil. Add a couple drops of rosemary essential oil to it. When the oil cools down, soak your nails in the mixture. As you're soaking your nails, massage each one in circular motions, for about a minute. Do this 3x a week.
Drink plenty of water.
Invest in a good hair, skin and nails supplement. I like biotin and evening primrose oil. I started taking evening primrose oil a month ago, and I already have half an inch of growth on each of my nails.
Use a clear, nurturing nail polish - I really love Sally Hansen's Complete Care, 7-1. You can buy it at most drugstores or here, on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Sally-Hansen-Complete-Moisturizing-Strength/dp/B00392HBQC
Use this treatment once a week. It will keep your nails shiny and make you less prone to biting them.
Good luck! I'm a recovering compulsive nail-biter as well.
Of course! This is a list of most the products I use:

I also use little things like: tips, glue, cuticle nippers/tools, cuticle oils, alcohol wipes, acetone, etc. I hope this helps! Please note, I have been doing my nails for a long time and I have built up my collection over the years. It is expensive from the start, but always remember, everything will last you longer then the salon because you’re only doing your nails once every few weeks. Good luck!!! 😁😁😁
My nails went to crap earlier this year, and the free edges were barely visible. I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out a way to protect my nails while they grew out. And even when they would grow out, they would break and tear again. The Sally Hansen maximum growth polish actually worked, but did nothing to strengthen my nails.
So I went the nuclear route. Using this method, it's kind of a pain, but I haven't torn or broken a nail since I've been using it. Now all of my nail free edges extend 6+mm, and they are practically bulletproof. Plus my nail polish last beyond two weeks, with zero chips. I will actually have to add polish to the inner part of my nail where it grows out a couple of times before I get tired of the color, and change it.
I use a thick super glue to adhere a silk nail wrap to my entire nail plate. I then add a second layer of silk to the very tip of my nails. This makes the nail HARD, and extremely durable, and also increases the thickness at the edge of my nail. The extra thickness, and rounded edges have eliminated inadvertently scratching myself due to the longer nails as they are no longer razor sharp.
I've then round the edge with a nail file, and wrap every coat of nail polish around the edge to the inside, so every bit of the underside of my nail is painted to match the top side of my nail. The nail polish adheres to the silk wrap many, many, many times better than it does my nail plate.
This is also a perfect way to repair a ripped, dented, or broken nail.
Gluing the silk to your nail plate is a tedious task. You don't want any of the glue to get down inside of your cuticles. The thick Super Glue does not set instantly. You have a good 20 seconds to get the silk into place and the excess glue wiped away from your cuticles before you use the accelerator to instantly set everything in place.
Regular nail polish remover will not effect the super glue/silk layer. Pure acetone will. So you can use a regular nail polish remover to remove the polish and repaint. But if you want to remove the glue/silk layer, acetone will be needed.
This is what I've been using. It's from Amazon, but you can also get the same items from Hobby Lobby. 💕E
❗❗ JUST DON'T EVER USE A THIN GLUE ❗❗

There are so many great lights on Amazon. The one I like is this one:

As for polishes and base/top coats, I really like both Gellen and Vishine brands on Amazon. Both cheap, but I've loved them both (more than Gelish). If you want to stick to well-known brands, Gelish, OPI and CND are the top brands that salons carry. They're pretty pricey though.
I personally use these things all from amazon. Works amazing. I rub it on my cuticles once a day. Within a week they looked so healthy and amazing. Massage it into your cuticles for just a few minutes. So worth it.

SHEA BUTTER LOTION RECIPE
Aloe Vera Gel
Shea Butter
Almond Oil
Jojoba Oil
Glycerin
Organic Cocoa Butter 1 lb.
Organic Grapefruit Essential Oil 1 oz.
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
SHEA BUTTER 1/3RD OF THE JAR ABOVE OR 11-12 OZ.
COCOA BUTTER ABOUT 1/3RD OF THE SHEA BUTTER AMT OR 4 OZ (1/4 LB).
ALL OILS, GRAPEFRUIT, GLYCERIN AND ALOE 1/3RD OF BOTTLE (2-3 OZ)
EXCEPT YLANG YLANG ESSENTIAL OIL ABOUT 20 DROPS.
MELT SHEA BUTTER AND COCOA BUTTER TOGETHER IN DOUBLE BOILER. STIR FREQUENTLY.
THEN POUR INTO BIG MIXING BOWL, ADD REST OF THE INGREDIENTS.
MIX WELL.
THEN POUR INTO JARS AND LET SIT IN FRIDGE OVERNIGHT AND YOU ARE DONE! =D
** takes about 2-3 hours to return to room temperature. Smaller jars get colder faster so you wouldn't have to wait overnight.
MAKES ABOUT TWO 11 OZ JARS
I’ve used Nail Tek in the past. Make sure to use with a little bit of oil to make sure your nails don’t become brittle (I like jojoba, but olive oil works well if you have). Although it’s not marketed as a ridge filler, is thick enough that using it under polish should get rid of a bumpy surface. Best way to apply imho is to put on two coats, and then apply another coat every 3-4 days. Remove when you feel it’s getting thick and rinse, repeat. You could also just use it as a base coat for other colors.
Can you wear surgical or food service gloves? I wear food service gloves when cleaning my kitchen sometimes if I've made a big mess. They are more fitted than dish gloves, and are more like a second skin.
Then you can also put a cuticle oil on your nails at night and seal it with a thin layer of vaseline. I use this one.
Keep the routine for a few months and the stained nails will grow off and the new ones will be protected.
My other suggestion is to get this Zoya kit and this Zoya Perfector, and start using them on a regular basis. Try not to remove polish often, just add to it. The lavender perfector will hide any yellow stains as you grow your nails out to eliminate the stains completely, without making them worse as colored polishes would do.
Good luck! PS Your job sounds cool.
Definitely should be using cuticle oil 2+ times a day! Pens like these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J6J9D9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zKGPDb92AH19A are great for portability!
here you go!
Everything in it was great except for the brush. It was terrible and ALL the hairs fell out so quickly. So I ordered another brush separately for like $6. And that definitely made a difference in ease of sculpting.
I recommend this lamp and this post is a really great step-by-step. At home gel is a complete game-changer.
Opi Nail Envy. I used it after biting and my nails were strong and long soon after.

Gellen Pick Any 6 Colors Soak Off Gel Nail Polish 300 Colors Available https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GUSEJUM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JdakDb2C0QN2K
That’s what I use and I’m happy with it :)
Ouch! I know that pain well.
As the other person said, nail oil is great. You can buy nail oil pens pre filled, or you can buy a bunch of empty ones and fill them with your own oil. They make it nice and easy to apply and it means you don’t get oil everywhere.
Apply it every time you remember!
Also, buy some cuticle clippers to clip the hang nails so you don’t pull or tear at them (because ouch! That just causes more pain!).
As for how to stop the picking / biting? That’s a hard one. I pick at the dry skin around my nails and then it gets worse, so I pick at it more ... rinse, repeat. It’s a vicious cycle.
I’ve found wearing coloured polish helps because I want it to last and I want it to look good. Are you allowed to wear colours at work?
/r/calmhands might have some better advice, but these are some starting points for you!
Makartt P-01 Poly Nail Gel Kit... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076B9CBVZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share :)
And for the glittery flecks I used a holographic cellophane cut up into pieces!! (I wasn't able to find it on Amazon, but you might be able to find it on Wish
It might have another name but it's that putty thing that you use to stick posters and stuff to walls. It should be easy enough to find. Here's a link on amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0001OZI70/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_vq56xbCKKGW0A
I would recommend the UNT peel off base coat. Here is a link on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Takeoff-Peelable-Cuticle-Non-glue-Bloggers/dp/B002BZ361W They will just pop off easily. You may want to leave a slight edge around your cuticles with no base coat so the polish can adhere to your nail a little bit so they last more than a few hours or days. (Not sure if that makes any sense)
This is what I use.
Check this out at Amazon.com

And i sleep in cotton gloves and apply Aquaphor.

I have bit my nails all my life and was finally able to stop 2 years ago (I'm 28 now) because of this stuff. It's just nasty. Keep putting it on and be consistent with it. Once they've grown out more there are lots of products you can use to help strengthen your nails.
If you're super desperate, I've heard good things about hypnosis.
I use lagunamoon from Amazon and this UV lamp!
If you haven’t already ordered one, this is the one I use. It’s cheap and has a lot of high end features for a cheap price.

There is a type of nail polish that you can buy that is specifically to aid in stopping nail biting! You put a coat on your nails and when you find yourself biting your nail you will be met with a horridly bitter taste! It is kind of interesting conditioning approach to stopping the habit :). Here is one that has good reviews on amazon: [Mavala Stop Nail Biting] (https://www.amazon.com/Mavala-Switzerland-Stop-Nail-Biting/dp/B0000YUXI0)
