Flexible Steel Iron Ferrite SheetMagnetically-receptive, but this is NOT a magnetIt is made from a flexible metal which magnets will stick toPlease see full description so you know what you're purchasing!
I have just made the decision to move from foam to magnetic, I picked up a couple of the 9L Really Useful Boxes and some A4 Rubber steel sheets. Then some Milliput (or glue) and some N52 neodymium magnets for the bottom of my models.
The rubber steel sheets are self adhesive and all in took me about 30 minutes to an hour to put everything together including magnetising. I had some old foam around so i cut a slit in some and wedged a A4 piece of perspex between it to have two layers in one box. I'll probably change it for something else in the future but for now it fits and gives the second level a little extra cushioning.
Two of the 9L boxes fit into an Aldi reusable bag for transporting, it'll not look as fancy as some of the more expensive options but all in cost me around £45 for two boxes (and magnets) and I can fit more than I can in a Citadel Crusade box.
Links to what I used if you want to check it out for reference.

Try getting Gel Superglue (like this). Apply a decent dob in the joints, then plop the arms in there and hold for 15 seconds. You can still move them a tad after, but they won't fall out. Let them set for a few minutes before putting any large amount of tension on them and you should be golden.
Second option is to use an accelerator, like this. Apply glue to the joint, then spray/dip the arm ball in kicker, and put it into the joint. This will set very quickly. It's also exothermic, so if you get glue on your hands and don't notice, then get kicker on there, it can be fairly painful.
Last, a helping-hands can be quite useful if you have it laying around. I use this one for electronics, and it works pretty well holding awkward model parts for letting glue set.

Something like these should be fine. I ended up getting one in a multi pack of files.
The apocalypse box is better than start collecting. Six wraiths six tomb blades, a cryptek and a dooms day ark.
You want thirty immortals for full usage of infantry in a battalion, though sometimes you can cut that down to 3 x 5 immortals.
If you then felt like it you could get the dominion force box which comes with ten immortals, three tomb blades, a dda and 12 warriors + scarabs and an Overlord.
Currently tesla is the best weapon to put on immortals for most situations. Tomb blades can be magnetised for gauss blasters and tesla carbines.
The spider that comes with the dominion box can be used as a conversion point for several units, including a destroyer lord.
Dominion spearhead
Outrider detachment
Obviously shop around for the best price, dominion spearhead is no longer available via GW but you can get it online.
Below is the army you get from those boxes.

Has all the essentials you'll need at a reasonable price.
Necrons are so easy its basically cheating. Get the plate metal primer, and then just nulin oil the details. I added rust effects and some green glow here and there but thats just getting fancy.
I am using a slightly modified Disney Infinity Ultron. Take the little mandibles off the side of the head and he has a suitably skull-like look to him, and just paint him to match your Dynasty. He's on the correct base size already and everything, and it's even a scenic base. There are spaces large enough to add some Necron transfers if you want to do so, as well. I plan on using a translucent green cube in his upraised hand as well, and styling him as a Cryptek who is actually drawing the power of a c'tan fragment in a Tesseract Labyrinth into his own body to direct it.
Depending on your playgroup, this may not go over too well, but given that GW apparently doesn't want us to be able to actually get Transcendent C'tan without paying $160 for them, no one in my group has expressed any concerns with it and I've even been told that they are actually kind of upset how well it fits into the rest of the army.
