Warning: this should work, but these things can always be a crapshoot.

I work in pro/live audio, and there's a special piece of kit we tend to use to get rid of the kind of ground hum you're talking about. Typically they're called isolators/isolated transformers/isolated splitters/etc.

One of the most cost effective yet also most impressive variants is this one: https://www.amazon.com/ART-DTI-Transformer-Isolator-Interface/dp/B0009GUOQA

You could just get one 1/8" to 1/4" adapter, or a 1/8" to RCA cable or something, and try running it through this. It's a very versatile little thing. Any input 1 is matched to any output 1. Any output 2 is matched to any output 2. No need to configure or learn anything to use it. Plug and play, as we call it.

Someone will probably have a better solution, but that's how I would go about it. Best of luck!

So... I'm gonna be a little critical here.

I don't get this sketch. In improv terms, I don't know what the "game of the scene" is. Your comedic goal seems to be weirdness and then shock value. It's not that it can't work, it's just not for me. For example I feel like this same scene could easily have been accomplished with 2 characters instead of 4 or 5, and it probably would have let you define a relationship between those two characters more easily and play with that relationship.

Anyway, your production quality seems fine to me, you mention some audio concerns, but that to me shouldn't be your focus. I would recommend some improv or comedy writing books, my favourite being Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual. It'll teach you some core essentials for finding fun in scenes.

Hope this helps! :)

Blue Snowball iCE Condenser Microphone, Cardioid - White - 1974 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006DIA77E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pz7PDbEQ0WKEF

That's a mic that some friends and I used for recordings back in the day. It'll be a good place to start! Plus the price has gone down, which is always nice. Good luck!

You'll want an iphone tripod mount, any will do but this one looks good - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00WTOHEBI/ref=cm_sw_r_taa_jajIybWFBN08B

Amazon basics do a cheap and cheery tripod with a spirit level - https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-60-Inch-Lightweight-Tripod-Bag/dp/B005KP473Q

As for lighting, look for something along the lines of this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Voilamart-Professional-Photography-Adjustable-Continuous/dp/B01GFDXME6/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1485344968&sr=1-7&keywords=Studio+lighting

No idea if you're in the UK, but any version of amazon should have similar products.

I'll give you some critical points that I think you can work on:

  • The video thumbnail text that you use is too light colored and too thin to be visible and easily readable. Compare any of my thumbnails to yours. If you think that only works on Gamers, take a look at Scott Herman Fitness. Thumbnails need to be readable and eye-catching. Take a look at this comparison of your thumbnails. Which one do you want to click on?

  • Please, please, please invest in a lavalier mic. It doesn't have to be this one. In your videos, you turn away from the camera often to show off an exercise. Sometimes because you have your head down, sometimes because it's a back exercise. Either way, in these moments, you are difficult to hear. Audio is more important than video to understanding.

  • Consider a cold open format. A 'cold open' is when you show some of the storyline before the logo. You'll notice this with, say, sitcoms. They show you a quick joke or whatever, then the logo. This invests your viewers. I would recommend a High Energy Elevator Pitch: "Hey YouTube, Today on OneWay we're showing you how to bulk up your stapedius. <LOGO> blah blah blah blah"

That's all I've got the time to go through right now, thanks for your encouragement.

I love low budget challenges. So much so that I'm thinking of doing several videos about low priced tech on my channel. $40 isn't a bad budget for entry level as You can get something like the CAD U37 which is really good for the price.

Here is an amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AIQGUO

Here is an audio example: https://youtu.be/o5-16CdWmPU?t=1m18s

I think you'll find it difficult to disagree that the quality is good. Everyone also recommends keeping it on the -10db setting for this mic. Anyways, I hope that helps.

HDMI out from PS3's are encrypted, so you need to bypass it through either an analog signal, or by taking two unencrypted digital signals and splicing them to an HDMI.

  1. Component Output into Component to HDMI box. I don't like this one because it's an analog signal which can get fuzzy.

  2. HDMI to DVI cable with a optical audio (toslink) cable.
    What I use.

It's a pain in the ass for sure.

Not exactly my stuff, but I'll go through some components:

HDMI to DVI Cable for Video:
    https://www.amazon.ca/BlueRigger-Speed-Adapter-Cable-Meters/dp/B004S4R5CK/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1503656207&sr=8-6&keywords=hdmi+to+dvi

DVI is video only, and doesn't have encryption, and it's still a digital signal.

    TOSLink Cable for Audio:
    https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-Digital-Optical-Audio-Toslink/dp/B00NH11H38/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1503656242&sr=1-3&keywords=toslink+cable

Because you're going HDMI to DVI, you need audio, and the only other audio output on the PS3 is TOSLINK iirc.

DVI + TOSlink to HDMI Box
    https://www.amazon.ca/Monoprice-105369-Digital-Optical-Converter/dp/B0038XNTWW/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1503656326&sr=1-3&keywords=toslink+and+dvi+to+hdmi

Digital video, and Digital Audio get spliced into an unencrypted audio/video HDMI signal. Haven't noticed any lag doing this and I've beaten a good number of games on my PS3.

If you're using an Elgato, you can use the throughput to capture on your PC and view on your TV, or you can get another HDMI Splitter box.

Hope that helps. There's no good easy way to capture PS3 without external stuff unfortunately.

i use the latter mic but i highly recommend the spark my dude. the yeti is also very nice. either are standard youtube quality stuff and don't require a mixer!

Hi! For $100 budget I recommend you Logitech Z623 200 Watt Home Speaker System, 2.1 Speaker System (Black) (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z623-Speaker-System-Black/dp/B003VAHYTG). It has good reviews and a good price. Have a good day!

u/Dameleon · 1 pointr/NewTubers

Thanks a ton man! I have a question though. The mic I have is supposed to be really good, so do you think the problem is the placement of mic? Thanks for the tips! Did you find any of the video funny by the way?

u/MrSpicyGaming · 1 pointr/NewTubers

I agree with this setup. I already happened to have some of the equipment needed for my setup from my music recording. Using a USB audio interface does give you more freedom with your choice of mics and makes it easier/cheaper to replace or upgrade.

I use the 4 channel version of this interface
I use this mic currently and it works well

u/npidzarko · 1 pointr/NewTubers

A pop filter would work perfectly for you!

https://www.amazon.ca/Nady-MPF-6-Microphone-Gooseneck-Stabilizing/dp/B0002CZW0Y

The first one that came up on amazon. Less than 10 bucks you can mount it on your desk.

They are mainly meant to soften harsh sounds and "wind" but it would work well for your issue as well!

u/Kinetic_Wolf · 2 pointsr/NewTubers

I use the fifine 669b, it was $40 on amazon (canada). You can find my channel in my profile if you'd like to hear example of quality. Personally I'm baffled at how good it is for the price. I doubt you could hear an upgrade from any microphone until you start hitting the $300 range like this one: Rode NT1-A

Amazon has a MALE xlr to dual male 3.5mm (https://www.amazon.com/SiYear-Splitter-Microphone-Converter-Adapter/dp/B07HLL3S3B/) and you could couple that with a gender changer (https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-GXX-145-Gender-Changer-Adaptor/dp/B000068O4K/) that would convert the male XLR to female...

u/xFireFistAcex · 1 pointr/NewTubers

ohh and how do you do that? This is the cam i have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JH8T3S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use an editor called CyberlinkPower Director 14, so i guess i can add the cam recording to the video there?
