This is my review for the Poetic slim line portfolio case, the link has some pictures for your viewing pleasure. For those interested in purchasing , it can be found here.

Overall Impression: The Case Is slim, surprisingly light and professional looking. From the pictures and description on the amazon website, this looked to be the ultimate case for the Nexus 7. It comes pretty close but there are a few issues. At $19.95, it is priced right.

Looks: The case is made of faux leather and plastic. Overall it looks pretty good. There are a few places where the plastic meets the faux leather where it could have been done a little better (fold over the leather portion to not show edges?) but over all it looks like a very nice case. They might have overcome this by making the entire thing out of plastic and texturizing the back. The micro-suede lining on the inside front and back is a nice touch.

Functionality: The cover folds into a stand a la iPad's smart cover. This works quite well and offers many different viewing angles. When in hand, you can roll up the cover and it provides a nice left hand grip for reading/viewing. My one issue with this is that it doesn't fold completely flat behind the device. On the right hand side of the cover are magnets that keep the cover shut when closed. I'm not sure that this is entirely necessary and it makes the right side of the cover slightly thicker than the rest (see pics) but for those that like the added security, this is a plus. There is also a magnet that facilitates "smart cover" functionality and this works fine. All buttons and ports are accessible. The case is fairly easy to remove without feeling like it will fall off. My final complaint is that the front cover is slightly too big and overlaps the edge of the case. This is purely an aesthetic complaint and it could be argued that this helps the cover to be more easily opened (an important feature because of the magnetic fasteners).

I think the nice thing about vanilla android devices in general is that they're a nice blank slate for developers to use (as far as I understand). I'd leave the whole version part to her, but usually people will want the latest and greatest, so in this case Lollipop. To be honest, I'd leave all of the customization up to her if you're not certain. More than half the fun of owning an Android table/phone is being able to customize it yourself in every detail.

However, one thing: get her a case if you haven't done so already. I use this one. I accidentally dropped the 1st gen one on its face and shattered the screen. This case is great because it can be a stand and protects the screen pretty well. Plus, the company is amazing as they replaced mine for free and let me keep the old case when the elastic band snapped.

Sorry for rambling, but hope you figure out what you want to do. She'll love it either way I can guarantee.

u/pantsmessiah · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Sure when it comes i'll let you know what I think

EDIT EDIT: Looking at the link for the MoKo case, that is exactly what I got. Mine is the "newest version" looking at the 4th image comparing the backs of the two. I am positive now these are the same case, but my thoughts are below

Just came in, initial impressions are nice. The case comes with an elastic strap to secure the cover while using it as well.

Just putting the strap over eats up a bit of the screen. I've pulled away the middle section and wrapped that back behind and hooked it on the "latch" to keep it closed (see 2nd image from Arrowmaster's Moko link). The elastic strap is only contacting at the two corners, but still holds the cover against the back.

The hand strap isn't bad. I can use it on either hand in either position. For reference, my hand is about the same size as the nexus itself. If you are a lefty you might have issues using the hand strap on your right hand unless you put the tablet in "upside down". There are a series of holes for the speaker so it may or may not affect usage, but you could hold it with the camera at the bottom.

I can snap some pictures if anyone is interested, but the amazon page pretty much covers the basics.

u/sinoth · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Seems silly to protect the back of the case when it is already a sturdy material. I realize most people get this sort of case to protect from drops, but I'm not too worried about that.

Tube sock thing would almost work but I'm mostly trying to protect the glass from piercing damage. The most hostile environment the tablet has to endure is my wife's purse, which has all sorts of pointy implements. A leather or rubber case would protect from piercing better than cloth.

I came across this case which doesn't look too bad, but still seems thicker than it needs to be. The Dodo case looks amazing but the adhesive would make it difficult to remove the tablet. The official case bugs me because the front flap doesn't secure in any way. This one isn't out yet but seems to be the best of the bunch.

You know, maybe I don't give the glass enough credit. I have been using my current phone (Samsung Galaxy S) without a case for over 2 years, and the glass still looks great. There are some tiny scratches, but you have to reallllly look to see them. I suppose the big difference is the phone stays in my relatively safe pocket while the tablet gets tossed into the nearest container.

I have the Blurex version, but for all intents and purposes, it's the exact same thing. They are both now even the same price! (I got the Blurex version when it was only a $5 intro special, but it went up soon after).

It is a very well designed case. Fits the device perfectly, snug without putting undue pressure anywhere. The folding cover makes for a great stand, and it's definitely not too bulky at all.

I'm so happy with mine that I considered a TPU case, but then remembered it wouldn't fit in this case anymore and chose this case over a TPU one.

Here's an album of my personal one showing some different positions and my hand as a size reference.

u/vanillaworkaccount · 5 pointsr/Nexus7

I can't speak for this keyboard but I have this logitech keyboard and it works pretty well, though the battery doesn't last long when I leave it on without use for an extended period of time. I bought a separate bluetooth mouse to go with it. Mainly I use it to use my home PC while I am at work. I highly recommend the Splashtop HD remote desktop app it is well worth the price for how good the picture is as well as the music, movie, and gaming streaming support.

u/rajnocerous · 7 pointsr/Nexus7

Amazon has quite a few decent leather ones. These ones are especially good if you want some sort of functionality:

  • Angled

  • Rotating

  • Wallet-like

If that's not what you're looking for, there's been a post about a neat-looking customizable case from Treegloo. These kinds of cases tend to be more expensive, but they seem to be quite sturdy and stylish.

It really depends what functionality you want from the case, what material to use, your price range, etc. But looking at your username, I think another UK redditor could help you out better than I can :)

Here's more discussion on cases, and here's a UK site that has a pretty good selection of cases.
u/randolama · 1 pointr/Nexus7

What country are you from? I would go on and have one shipped to the closest store (seems to be 7131 West 135th Street, Overland Park, KS) for pickup so you are guaranteed a N7. Not within 6 days but getting a 16 GB version is your best bet for a perfect Nexus 7. I would recommend the MoKo Slim-fit case. I am pretty sure the slim-fit case is the updated version of the slim case.

u/LordRandy · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

This exact same thing happened to me ~2 weeks ago. I heard OfficeMax had them on sale, so I gave my local branch a call. The manager at OfficeMax said they were no longer getting shipments of the N7, but that I could buy their display model for $130. When I got there the tablet was powered off and wouldn't turn on. I had him charge the device and returned after work to check it out.

The device powered up and was still running Android 4.4.1 so it clearly hadn't been used in a while. I used a lens wipe to clean the screen and was happy to see it was completely scratch free. The manager told me they rarely sold tablets at their store, and that he hadn't seen the N7 used in ~6 months. I was able to haggle him down to $100, and bought a 2-year unlimited warranty for an extra $15.

When i got the device home I factory reset it and it has been running flawlessly. I also purchased [This case] ( because I heard the spontaneous screen cracking could be due to the chassis of the device flexing. With the case and the $15 2-year warranty I feel very secure about owning this device, despite it being a display model.

TL;DR: Call your local OfficeMax, they may have a display model they will sell you on the cheap. Also ask about warranty opportunities!

u/bockh · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I bought that case and there are a couple things you should know that I wish I did. Firstly, it is hard to type on because it is small and the buttons, especially the space bar, are slightly indented, making them hard to depress. Secondly, it is not bluetooth, so you also need to buy an OTG cable for it, which is cheap but might take some time to get to your place if you don't pay attention to where you are ordering it from. The entire first page when I bought mine were shipped from Hong Kong and it took about a month for me to get it. You cannot have the N7 plugged plugged in to the wall while you have the keyboard attached either, which makes longer typing sessions impossible, but you wouldn't want to type on the keyboard for longer sessions anyway. Lastly, the thing is not a case. The little hooks only hold the Nexus 7 in two places on the bottom and one on the top. The two hooks on the bottom, for me, were not parallel, which angered me that the N7 was on a tilt the whole time I tried using it. If you are transporting it, there is a great chance the N7 will simply fall out, and the case offeres no actual protection from falls, impact, or scratches. Additionally, it says it comes with a stylus, but that is just a plastic stick, so it will not work with the N7.

In summation, I would recommend saving the $4 +$5.95 on this and just purchase a reglar case with a kickstand and a fullsize bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo, as the efficiency of a mouse extremely helpful while typing large pieces also. If you are tyring to make a mini desktop setup, I'd also be sure to download a launcher that autorotates the homescreen, if you aren't rooting the device to change the LCD density controls ande give the N7 the 10-inch layout.

u/Beeslo · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Nothing beats my Moko case. This thing is insanely well made. Includes a magnet so that the Nexus 7 turns off and on whenever you open it. Completely secures the tablet in it without surrounding it all around with the case material things to six appropriately placed holders. An elastic band helps secure the case in the completely open style, where it has a similar hand hold in the back as the Snugg. And the elastic band can be used to hold the tablet in a secure stand configuration although you can set it up easily in its stand configuration without it. I don't doubt this other case is good as well, but the Moko does everything its does but better and it looks really good as well.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I'd still say the Nexus 7 is alive- it's still likely to get software updates and is still a great performer. Go on amazon, they still have it there- 16GB or 32GB. The LG G Pad is also pretty great in any size- it's got a real solid design. I just wish they sold it in a GPE like they did for a bit months ago...

u/TinglyThing · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

My two cents... Buy a leather case with a cover and a holder for a stylus. Having a magnetic cover makes it more enjoyable to simply close the cover when you're done using it to automatically turn it off (also turns on when you open the cover). It also acts as a stand for video viewing, or if you want to use it in conjunction with a Bluetooth keyboard. I prefer to have one that holds a stylus. This one is the best I've found so far, and I have several cases. It also has a soft suede interior that is nice to hold in your hand when it's folded open and it protects your Nexus 7 when it's closed. I'm very happy with this cover/protector: i-BLASON

u/MadNachos · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Cant help but I am also interested in a cross platform SMS app. I recently purchased an iPad for development work and really miss not having something like DeskSMS.

For the cover, I like the real leather Moko case that you can get from Amazon. Its a bit stiff when new but it breaks in really nice, the fake leather ones are also good though.

For 'must have apps', get all the Google stuff. If you are looking for a really fun game try The Bards Tale. Really been enjoying that one.

u/TheLotri · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

The Moko might not be custom or "premium" but the one for the original Nexus is pretty nice. I like the carbon fiber texture, and it has a lifetime warranty. :)

u/myothercarisacar · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Pretty much agreed. I ordered the Poetic and have just received my third gen version. Very happy with this revision. Seems to have solved almost all the major issues and the front flap now wraps around flat on the back out of the box. Great revision.

In the meantime I also ordered this Moko case: which is an excellent case and alternative.

To compare the two: the moko is a bit padded on front and back and has a good feel to it. The N7 comes out of the Moko case much easier.

The Poetic is much more slim and clean looking however and I like the molded case. It's harder to get the N7 out, but since it will mostly live in the case I'm not concerned (I used the 2nd gen Poetic for several weeks and was pleased with leaving it in other than the 2nd gen case defects)

I'll be using the Poetic going forward, my only concern is the edges of the front flap grooves which cracked on my first and second gen units.

u/CrentistTheDentist · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Get the Poetic Slimline case. The black one was $5 when I preordered it, but I think it's gone up to $10, with the other colors being $15. It looks a lot like the ASUS premium cover and works great. Auto sleep/wakes the screen, feels and fits great, etc. I like the way it attaches much more than most of the other cases I've seen that just loop an elastic band over the corners or have weird claw things that grip around the edges.

u/Chezzabe · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I think because they just want to try as sell as many as they can to new potential customers with the new 7. The normal price is around $15... so long story short the old version just isn't on sale.
Edit: If you are looking for a cheaper 2012 case I bought this one last November and it has held up extreamly well for somthing that was only $10 dollars. The feel of it is like real leather and it has not shown the least bit of wear on it. It fit like a glove and was not overly bulky and I can't tell you how many times I dropped my 7 in it and it always protected it well.
The only downside is when I first got it for a good day or so it has a extremely strong chemical type smell. After that it was smooth sailing and I would buy it again if I had to.

u/brick872 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Check it out on Amazon. Look under the used deals and there are some in very good condition and fulfilled by Amazon for $148.80. Better price and I've had better experience in the event you need to do a return with Amazon than I ever have on ebay. I have the 2012 model and I got my wife the 2013 last year for her birthday so I have experience with both. Definitely stick with the 2013 version.

u/goretsky · 5 pointsr/Nexus7

I just received the Poetic SlimLine Case for my Nexus 7 FHD (2013) and so far I am very happy with it. The case is an exact fit for my Nexus 7 and has openings for all the ports, including the rear camera. The fit of the cover against the case is excllent as well, with no flexing of the cover or problems at the "hinge" area.

I also ordered some matte screen protectors¹ from a brand I hadn't heard of before (Crazy On Digital) but were (1) inexpensive; and (2) had good reviews; and those seem to be working fine so far as well.

¹I prefer a matte screen, like a ThinkPad has.

u/bi11y10 · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

Surprise Surprise. I'm literally typing on it right now. Google is a wonderful thing.

But seriously its a fantastic keyboard.

Edit: I actually owned the keyboard you linked for the original nexus 7. Its great if you want a key board and a case all in one, but the keyboard is pretty cramped. Personally I would go with the Logitech and a separate case for when your not typing with it. I suggest the moko slim fit case.

u/Insaniaksin · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I don't have either of these cases, but I've been looking into one of them trying to decide which one I like more. I'm probably going to get the first one, along with this one which someone already posted, but it has the faux leather. I'll decide which one I like better from there.

Personally, this one looks better and I would prefer this one

I found this one first, but i'm not a big fan of the shiny X on the back

u/silent42 · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

I just got this case a few days ago amazon link

I absolutely love it. It can prop the nexus up in landscape mode, has a great leather feel to it, all the ports/microphone holes are designed to fit the nexus 7, and it has the magnetic wake/lock feature. Also good price at around $10

u/liathus · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

i have this case and I really like it. Its pretty slim, and it seems to fit the tablet well. I didn't want a case that completely covers the bezel when open, so I went with this one as its the only "clip" style one I found. Smart cover works great, there were some issues with the originals turning the display off when wrapped around the back, but the one I have (shipped august 1st) works perfect.

u/banjoman05 · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Then the 2013 N7 is probably your best bet. Try to find a 2013 though, it's quite an upgrade over the 2012 and not worth saving a few dollars.

My reason for the Nvidia upgrade was Gamestreaming, better controller support (I like the Shield's controller more than a DS3), slightly larger screen, etc... I'd recommend picking up this case if you get a N7. I had the same type for my 2012 and 2013 tabs.

u/loganizzi · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I purchased this case when it was first available and they had a few problems with the original builds. I just received my 3rd version of this case (all replacements free of charge) and I have to say that this time they have it perfect.

I would highly recommend this case to anyone who is looking for something with a solid feel, very slim profile and built in stand functionality. It also has a smart cover. The 7 fits very snuggly into the case.

Company I purchased through sent all replacements without any request or inquiry on my part.

Here is where I got it on Amazon.

u/rejctchoir · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

I ended up getting the Logitech Bluetooth Android keyboard. Here is the amazon link with reviews. I picked it up for $35 refurbished off of ebay. It's much bigger than the actual tablet, but it's something that I'll only break out if I want to do some serious typing, otherwise it'll stay in my bag. So I'm okay with it. Here is a pic of that keyboard with a small android tab. The other alternative is a much smaller BT keyboard. I would recommend this one based on price and also generally favorable Amazon reviews. It will be better proportional to the Nexus, and will involve some compromise because it is small.

u/ptowner7711 · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

I'm in nursing school and have found the N7 to be very useful in class. Its been handy in looking things up and taking notes. I'm not a huge note-taker, but hammering out some key points is easy. I ordered this keyboard:

I imagine note-taking and general use will be even easier with a keyboard. Have not yet used a stylus but I hear it works well. I guess it just boils down to whether you're a pen and paper kind of guy or prefer an electronic interface.

u/skubiszm · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I got this Poetic one. I love the smart cover rip off. Slim, sleek and great looking.

u/sugarfreediabetes · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

The Poetic Slimline case

This case is rather minimalistic and has a nice leather feel to it. Granted its only 12-15$ wherever you look its just going to be faux leather but feels genuine. It has some form of bumper protection but since it's a thin case it's not as protective as the larger cases. It does however cover all four edges and the fold over also has an auto-sleep every time you close it and wakes when you open the screen because of a small magnet. The magnet does not interfere with screen sleep issues (as far as I'm concerned, never happened to me). The case is entirely lightweight and also has microfiber on the inside of the closing flap so it doesn't scratch your screen when closed.

I've had this case since January and its still working the same as it did when it came in brand new. Definitely a case you want to look into if you want something nice, lightweight, and still has a form of protection even if it doesn't leave the house

u/ForgetfulDoryFish · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I got the BluRex case for mine and I love it. Looks classy with the leather, isn't bulky, works well whether you lay it flat or use the case as a stand, doesn't block any of the ports, is still holding up well even after well over a year of using the case, cheap price, and protected my tablet from damage the one time I dropped it on asphalt.

u/mwrex · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I got it on amazon for $6.99 i love it. I keep it in landscape and I love the way I am able to hold the "kickstand" when I'm reading a book or something.. I can hold it for hours that way. Way exceeded my expectations.
But its not the targus name brand. (Identical otherwise).
P.S. This one does have the magnet.

u/hnilsen · 1 pointr/Nexus7

It hasn't been released yet - due to release 20th of August. All the pictures I've got are the ones from the amazon site:

What makes this my choice (albeit I haven't personally seen it), is that it's got a hard back that covers the device, it's got a smart cover with magnets that close and turn off the screen that can also turn into a stand. And it's sleek as a motherfraker.

If it fits into the Nexus 7 as well as the THIS fits the Kindle Touch, I'm going to be a very, very happy man.

u/Link2999 · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Damn. I just bought 3. (You save on shipping if you buy more than one). Cost me $10.93.

Edit: Now they're a penny. Can't automatically cancel, but I sent an email and ordered them again for a penny each. Total came to like $7.99.

Edit 2: Cancelled my first order as of 2pm EDT. I also put in another order for another case at $3, so I paid $10 for 4 cases. Great deal! (Cases are back up to 99cents by the way)

u/rannelvis · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

Here's what I do for my books and comics: Moon+ Reader has built in .cbr/.cbz support in addition to being a most excellent ereader. I also have calibre installed on my home pc. Calibre has OPDS support, which means that if it is enabled and you have the correct ports forwarded, then you can have it be your comics and books "cloud server". Coupled with a dynamic dns server like the free one you can get at, this allows you to have a static "domain". So in essence, I have my own online library where everything is stored, and when I want a new book / comic I just download it on demand so I don't have to store every copy of fables / the unwritten when all I want is a few issues at a time.
Granted, this is sort of an advanced setup and takes some research to do. Google books allows you to upload your own epubs and will replicate much of the same stuff, but .cbr doesn't work yet and I don't want to have to convert all my comics to epub (which is possible in calibre, I'm just lazy).

For movies / tv shows, again I keep everything stored on my home pc and have the plex server running. On the tablet, I have the plex app. So whenever I want to watch a show, it gets streamed from my home pc. This requires decent upload speeds on your home connection.

Alternatively you can store all the files on google drive / dropbox, however unless you pay for extra storage space, you will be doing a lot of data management. This also doesn't solve the problem for when you are offline.

Your final option is grabbing an OTG cable on the cheap and any usb stick.

u/Solarux · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

That Nillkin looks pretty bad in my opinion. Could just be the pictures though.

I like the looks of the second one but in the first picture, it doesn't seem to provide any corner protection - I'd be weary of that. Again, could just be the picture. Perhaps someone who owns either one of these cases could chime in.

I just received this MoKo case yesterday. I like it pretty well. It gives just enough coverage without covering the bezel.

u/brimo2k · 1 pointr/Nexus7

If you already have the keyboard sorted out, there are plenty of choices to choose from. I did some lengthy research and determined that this one was the best for me - maybe you'll like it

u/ShinyBlueUnicorn · 7 pointsr/Nexus7

I'm personally getting this one:

They had great customer support when I got the original case for the first Nexus (it didn't come with the magnet, so they shipped me a case with one attached for free). Plus, the case is stellar.

u/SadArmordillo · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I'm planning on just getting a TPU case and a carrying pouch do you guys think this is okay or is it better to get the bluerex case that everyone seems to love?

u/Ikohs · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Here is the set up I got:

Arkon SM517 Windshield Mount for 7-Inch Tablets
~$12 bucks. Work suitably.

I also got CoPilot Live Premium and it's better than my Garmin GPS.

I did also get a 2 amp charger cause it needs some mad power.

1 Port USB Car Charger 2.1A - Black

And I had a sandbag type mount from the Garmin.
Bracketron UFM-100BL Nav-Mat GPS Friction Dash Pad

I like it! Good luck!

u/tee_jay · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I got this, mostly because of Amazon Prime 2-day shipping and cheap, and the official case off Play. I'll have to see which one I like more and my girlfriend gets the other one for her N7 ;).

I also notice a number of people getting this one.

There are at least a few more options...with a little searching finding one you like shouldn't be too difficult.

u/rishicourtflower · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I purchased this cable - only tried it with a Logitech USB receiver, but I can say that works perfectly. Fairly solid feel to it too.

Also, it's 70 cents including shipping.

u/quickhonda · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

I use my Nexus7 for gps on long trips and it works great. I built the mount out of two different mounts. The idea came from somebody else on here and it works great. The one is a normal tablet mount for a car and the other is a neat one that attaches to the CD slot of the stereo. The navigation works great but you'll need an internet connection to get it started, I use a wifi tether from my Galaxy Nexus

u/BoyBlunder99 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I used a rooCase on my NookColor, and it worked great. Here's the Nexus 7 version.

edit: sorry for not describing it. It has the smart cover capability, as well as standup in landscape.

u/civiltribe · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I have this case and though it's not what you're looking for, it kind of discourages me from recommending any sort of travel keyboard that fits the dimensions of the N7. It's just too cramped at the size, you may be better off with something more like this though I know it's not the style you're looking for, I would definitely suggest getting something a bit wider than the N7 itself. I dunno, maybe some people are able to make it work at that size but I wasn't able to make it very practical and I tried pretty hard practicing on it to get it to feel more natural.

u/seeBurtrun · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

This is the one I got. I am sure you can find cheaper ones, but this has a lifetime warranty and was eligible for Prime. Works like a charm.

u/michaeljane · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I've been doing some research, and the minisuit keyboard is pretty awesome. It has some android-native buttons and it clips to the front of the device when not in use.

u/cosmo_polite · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Get a refund and go HERE for a new case. We own a carbon fiber blue and indigo, and they are as good as new after one year. The auto wake feature is a must have and it works great.

u/JSK23 · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

I had the old one for my N7'12 and it worked pretty good. For the price I figured it was worth trying again.

u/superherowithnopower · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Though I've noticed prices are going up a bit. When I ordered my case, it was only $2.99 + shipping; now it's up to $12.99 (with free Prime shipping, if you get that). Still, Amazon shows a list price of $39.00, so you're still getting a good deal.

u/chemosabe · 7 pointsr/Nexus7

I have this one and I'm very happy with it. The magnet for automatically turning on/off the screen is a nice touch too.

u/Skyler0 · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I have one that looks exactly like this except it's a "Blurex Ultra-Slim Case"

Either way I love it.

u/Adamfreakinant · 1 pointr/Nexus7

'That Case' as in the $50 'Premium Case'.

I forgot I tried out the Poetic Slimline too, which was pretty close to perfect, but I wanted more protection while traveling and just havent swapped it back on yet.

Thanks for saying you didn't like the Moko, reminded me I even had the Poetic Slimline anymore. Hahah

u/DocCalculus · 12 pointsr/Nexus7

This one's been great for me for the last 4-5 months. Slim, light-weight and reasonably simple/attractive looking. That said, the pricing is looking a little weird right now.

EDIT: Corrected the link; thanks /u/Riekopo and /u/gardobus.

u/ThatsMISTERJerk2U · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I've been very happy with this MoKo case and amazed at the low price. Fifteen bucks!

u/batman_rapist · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

You do need to root to use the usb drive. You also need something like this to adapt your flash drive. Then download "stick mount" from the play store in order to mount the drive. From there I used es file browser to access the drive and play movies/read books from there.

u/TheStinkySkunk · 1 pointr/Nexus7

It's not the prettiest case, but it's been great so far. A couple of the reviews talked about how the magnets may fall out, but Poetic seems to replace the case immediately after you contact them. And my friends who recommended buying a Poetic case after I had issues with the Asus and Google cases have had no problems with their cases. Both of them have been using them for over two years by this point.

u/rjk79 · 5 pointsr/Nexus7

I haven't seen anything exactly like the ipad case, there isn't the magnetic attachment point that the ipad has, so I don't think there will be a cover only like that. I have [this case] (, which is the closest I've seen. The "full case" part adds minimal bulk, and I like it so far (especially for the price).

u/mydamnredditname · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Agree with others...same as the MoKo case I got off Amazon.

It's OK for the price. Not the highest quality and probably won't last all that long...but it was $15.

u/dcpDarkMatter · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I picked up the MoKo case; seems to work pretty well. Lots of different colors and only ~16 USD from Amazon. Adds maybe 3/8ths to 1/2 inch to the thickness when closed.

u/Inquisitr · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I've been using something similar

Tho what I really want is a smart cover for the iPad for this thing.

I hate Apple but they do make a nice case.

u/tooyoung_tooold · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I did the same originally. I bought one for $1.20 something from hong kong. However i clicked the click where it says "XX number from $X.xx" link and it comes up with all the available vendors for the item. I found one vendor from the united states, so it stated 3-5 day shipping (continental mail). Instantly had my business, I cancelled the other order and placed one from there instead. It was well worth 30 extra cents for getting it that much sooner, plus my money is staying in the country.

EDIT: looked again. here is the link to the page. It turns out there are many vendors from the united states. It tells in the vendor description where they ship from. I'd say cancel your order and buy from the closest to you. It will probably come within a week. I can't find the particular vendor i bought from though.

u/yokens · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

There are plenty of cases like that. Just go to Amazon and search for Nexus 7 cases and you'll see plenty of selection.

I personally use this one. It felt a tiny bit bulky when I first got it, but now that I'm used to it, it feels fine and I'm quite fine of it.

u/synn89 · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

This works nicely with the N7:

It works better on the N7 than it did on my Acer Iconia A500

u/33165564 · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

Buy it online? The link you sent was the same price.

If you want a flip cover, get a Poetic Smart Cover. Comes in tons of colors and has magnets to make the device sleep when you close it. I don't think the linked case does this.

I got my Poetic case on Amazon for $13. It had some cracks in it and I opened a warranty claim with them. Had a new case delivered 3 days later and got to keep the old one.

This is one of the authorized resellers of Poetic cases. If you make a warranty claim you need to have proof it came from either Poetic or an authorized dealer (there are two on Amazon and one on eBay I think. They're listed on the Poetic warranty page).

u/Se7enLC · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Wow, that Moko Case really IS identical! How does that work, I wonder? The Poetic case says "Poetic" right in the leather on the cover.

u/mehwhatok · 5 pointsr/Nexus7

There's no point in buying the 16GB:

$199 8GB Nexus 7 + $1.39 USB OTG Cable + $39.99 64GB Flash Drive + Stickmount = $240.38 for a 72GB Nexus 7 vs $250 for a 16GB Nexus 7

See the various threads about how stickmount was updated yesterday for JB + Nexus 7 and works almost perfectly.

$1.39 USB OTG Cable:

64GB Flash Drive:

Not to mention that this makes copying media from a computer much easier (remove flash drive, plug into computer)

u/wannadipmyballsinit · 1 pointr/Nexus7

MoKo case:

This particular smart case suffers from the issue where the magnet is too strong and turns the N7 off when the cover is flipped behind the case. MoKo is fixing the issue and shipping out new, fixed cases, but if you're interested in seeing the issue, here is a video:

u/dho949494 · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I use the Moko Slim-fit case; I've never dropped my nexus so I can't tell you how well the case does in protection but it's a really solid case that functions well.

u/countz3r0 · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

That's totally a clone of the Moko case I bought from Amazon, minus the optimizations that Moko made based on customer complaint, i.e. Speaker holes, button cut out placement, hand strap and no magnetic clasp. The final Moko one is great, and it was only $5 more. I'd return it and order this:

u/wintermuteCF · 1 pointr/Nexus7

This is the one I bought, the Poetic case:

Smart cover, same type of three-fold-triangle-stand thing as the smart cover, some back protection, cheap price, and adds minimal bulk. It's the least-bulky case for the Nexus I could find.

u/aDDnTN · 1 pointr/Nexus7

rooted smoothrom + stickmount + n7/xoom compatible otg cable worked for me.

i think it worked on the CM-based smoothroms as well as the AOKP-based.

Link to the cable i bought. works good and the 90degree bend helps with the cable coming loose (i guess, i don't have a lot of occasion to use it that often).

1st drive shows up under /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1 or /storage/emulated/0/usbStorage/sda1 or just /usbStorage/sda1 in a file browser, depending on what sort of setup your rom is running.

u/riversofgore · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

Just buy the Moko case. It's $15 and feels like they should be charging twice as much. I've had one on my first gen for nearly a year without any issues ever. When I got one for my 2nd gen it was just as well put together. 4.5 star rating on Amazon with nearly 2700 reviews.

u/madeintheuk · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Got one of these puppies and it's great. You need to stress the leather a while to get it to a good position, but once it becomes looser it works well.

u/xhepera · 1 pointr/Nexus7

You sure you have the same case? I've got none of those issues. I know of at least one that is less expensive and looks like this one. Did yours actually come in packaging that said Blurex?

u/DudeOverdosed · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I got it from amazon. I'm not using any third party mapping apps, just using the mupen64 emulator from the play store.

u/DuplexSuplex · 10 pointsr/Nexus7

I have this Moko case. It is really nice. Only complaint is, the stylus doesn't lay flush and juts out a tiny bit. But for the price, I can't complain and highly recommend it!

u/Crayola_ROX · 5 pointsr/Nexus7

had this on my wish list for the longest. I dont know why the in the blue blazes i havent bought it yet

its perfect, and dirt cheap

u/watchova · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

If you look like at Amazon's page for the Nexus 7 mark 2 they have links to a travel cover(the same that debaserr linked), a premium case(that doesn't have a link yet but looks nice), and a screen protector.

All of them are "official" from ASUS. The ASUS screen protector comes with 2 versions, one glossy and one anti-glare. However, I've always really liked the Armorsuit. They're tough and once it's applied it practically disappears. It doesn't look like they have one for the mark 2 yet but I highly recommend Armorsuit for a screen protector.

u/Diogee19 · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I purchased

I'm quite happy with it for just $13.

u/AwesoMeme · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

This looks like the one I'll be waiting for. Not exactly Apple sexy but I think it's the closest we're going to get for now. I wish there were some more colors.

u/Mephiska · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I'm waiting on this case to come out in white. I had it for my iPad and loved it.

u/Prospekt01 · 6 pointsr/Nexus7

I got this moko case from amazon. Its really nice and slim.

u/sri745 · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Ah perfect timing OP. I was just looking at cases online. Here are the ones I was considering:

  1. Moko Ultra Slim Lightweight
  2. Poetic Slimbook Leather Case

u/efidol · 1 pointr/Nexus7

still available on AMAZON for $29.99... and although it hides the pogo pins this COVER is absolutely great

u/mr-peabody · 1 pointr/Nexus7

There's a lot on Amazon. I got this screen protector (it has 2-day shipping with Prime). This is the case I bought, which is has already been released.

All the good stuff will release later this month, but I'm going on a week-long trip out of country in the middle of August, so I needed something to protect my tablet.

For now, I'd probably forego the screen protector, since I think it's a little overpriced. If you need something before the 15th, I'd just get the cheapest case you can find, then upgrade when the quality stuff is released.

I think it's kinda lousy that accessories are so limited right now. You'd think Google/Asus would have worked with the manufacturers to get a decent selection ready by release.

u/DiegoVereasy · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I bought a cheap one from Amazon that was finicky and only worked if I was holding it to the left. Decided to try my luck and bought another one (different vendor but it looks exactly the same) that works fine.

u/UnknownFear · 0 pointsr/Nexus7

I ordered the BLUREX Folio Case w/ Stand. It's selling for roughly $6!! Apparently the original price as over $299!!! :O

u/Kardolf · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

I was given the Blurex case for my Nexus 7, and like it, except the leather around the front bezel makes opening the notification drop down a little tough sometimes. The flexibility of the stand makes it worth using most of the time, though.

u/TacCom · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

Another question for everyone, do you happen to know if any of the keyboard/case combos are worth the money? I am thinking of using my N7 to take notes in class this coming semester. More specifically have you heard much about this keyboard/case. Also are there any apps that would let me take notes like MS Word or Open Office? I was hoping there would be a Google Docs app but I cant seem to find one.

u/technicallycynical · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Just got my case in. Pretty nice, only complaints are that it's kind of hard to hit the volume keys and the edges of the screen. Other than that it was well worth the money.

u/eldred2 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I've been using this Moko Stand case for quite some time, and am very pleased with it.

u/thegreyquincy · 4 pointsr/Nexus7

Nice! I just got the Moko case for mine. Looks almost exactly the same.

u/Krhys88 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

That is the 2013 part, the old n7 usually is the 70$ part.
Although 120 is not as bad as the last time I checked.

I believe that you can get this cable ( that goes from micro USB to regular USB 2.0 and then you can use a normal mouse to change the settings to your liking.

There are guides out there to help you but they require learning some android development stuff.

u/Caltwentynine · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

Use a normal usb keyboard +

I'm gonna try that out with my das, i'll let you know how it turns out soon :)

u/R0b0tDude · 1 pointr/Nexus7

here 2nd result looks legit to me, they have thousands of good ratings.

u/thedudemeistre · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Well, you're in luck! They are. Its only a dollar but its $5 shipping. It will also ship on 8/23. So it's really a preorder for now but still.

u/SketchyMcSketch · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

i picked up this one. love the tri-fold stand feature and thin design. they say it's available august 10th, but i put in the order today and it now says "shipping soon". so they'll probably ship earlier than stated.

u/forgotamous · 1 pointr/Nexus7

You could try one of the official Nexus 2012 docks.

It won't make the slow charging problem go away, but it will ensure the tablet is always topped off (if you always put the tablet back on its stand).

++ less wear and tear on the USB port.

++ it has a speaker connector.

-- but more likely its time to retire the 2012.

u/goletaal · 1 pointr/Nexus7

It's this one. Looks like it's only $10 now.

u/linknight · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

These Poetic Slimline cases are really nice. I got one of them when they were like $5. Really high quality feel to them.

u/Rangi42 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

The similar-looking i-Blason case is $5.99, and is already in stock (no wait until August 12). I'm waiting for the MoKo carbon fiber one (available August 20); I have the same model for the old Nexus and it works very well.

u/binkocd · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I bought the MoKo Slim Fit (link at bottom) and it has elasitc instead of a magnet. I am going to say that it can be cumbersome and the elastic hangs over the screen, since the bezel isn't that wide. I am not sure, however, if there are any technical (n7) considerations that need to be made, i.e. would mess with locking, etc. Would be interested in knowing.

u/tinlo · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I don't know about designated keyboards, a case with a slim keyboard built in would be nice, but I might just get this Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and a slip cover for the tablet.

You can always get one of these micro-USB adapters and plug any regular USB device into it.

u/BluegrassGeek · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I used a Poetic Slimline. Not perfect, but it worked well enough for me.

u/jtiseo · 7 pointsr/Nexus7

It would work like an external hard drive. For instance, you put a movie file on this "external drive" and when it is hooked up to the tablet, you can watch the movie on the tablet. If the "external drive" is disconnected, you will not be able to play that movie, but the tablet would function normally.

You would need an OTG USB cable and some type of USB storage device (this could be a usb drive, an sd card with sd card reader, etc...)

u/Crysalim · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I wouldn't read too much into it. It's still available through other retailers, as well.

u/Bongopalms · -1 pointsr/Nexus7

I've had this Moko for over a year and it's doing well.

u/bhigh · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I have the Poetic Slimline case.

It's held up well so far, and works with my Qi charger. (LG WCP-300).

u/RainbowUnicorns · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Just purchased 3 of these yesterday. They were $5. I figured for 5 bucks its worth a couple weeks of waiting.

u/MrUndisclosed · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I'm using that one just fine with Nexus media importer and a flash drive.

u/nickj2010 · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I see the Minisuit recommended a lot, need to switch the option to 2013 to see the new version.

u/jerseymonkey · 1 pointr/Nexus7

Or you could just buy one for $0.64 off Amazon shipped:

u/ShakataGaNai · 0 pointsr/Nexus7

I got the leather case linked in the sidebar and it does the magic on/off when opened. What more do you want?

u/iusethisnametopost · 3 pointsr/Nexus7

I just got this case and I love it because I hate cases adding bulk. This is functional with minimal bulk.

As for apps, I'll try not to repeat what povsky said.
GrooveIp for VoIP calls.

u/jackruby83 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I just bought one on amazon last week for $30 - in fact I learned it existed on this sub when mine stopped charging as well. It was cheaper than the replacement port, which was about $55. The day after I bought it, the price jumped to $69, and is $43 today... Not sure why the fluctuations, but I would check everyday.

EDIT: OP, today it's back to $30

u/iloveboba · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

From my understanding, Sixaxis needs you to be rooted, which I am not. I just connected it using an OTG cable.

u/mattm57 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I just ordered this one. Its few more dollars than the others but at least its coming from the US. Its eligible for prime also.

u/abaybay99 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I got this one. Just came in today. Will post when I can review it.

u/boothroyd917 · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I ordered all three kinds, it was $7.99 for all three styles.

Only differences I'm seeing between them are how the kickstand works and how much of the bezel is actually covered. But considering it's $4.99 for one or $7.99 for all three, I figured I can try them out and then either sell them or hang on to them in case one breaks.

u/ChooChooTreyn · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

There's also a multi angle one from MoKo for 99 cents here

u/Rawffle · 8 pointsr/Nexus7

I personally prefer cases that don't cover the bezel. Like this.

Ditto. I actually got it here, but it appears to be the same.

I have an iKross that I purchased for my Transformer, but end up using the stylus that came with the i-BLASON case. The 'free' stylus is thinner and also doubles as an ink pen.
