I think you should start there.
Ended up going with a couple of these. That blue one is especially cheap right now; thanks China. I was kind of hoping to find something more official-looking or themed but I couldn't find anything on Amazon or Ebay like what you mentioned that held that many. I have a slim case for the system itself and a few games, but I was thinking more of a compact thing I'd keep in a drawer just to keep the games together, so this is all right.
So, what I did was bring along an international USB adapter (like a phone charger thing). There's a charging cable for the 3DS that's just a regular USB cable. And there's a good likelihood that if you stay in a hotel, there'll be USB charging ports on some nightstand or something. Bringing the adapter (something like this ) was just a bit of a convenience.
USB's always 5V, the world over. The DSi/2DS/3DS charger is 4.6V, but 5V works just fine for charging. I bought a N3DS XL from GameStop, and a USB cable is actually what they provided to charge it with.
There are USB cables on Amazon that'll charge the DS Lite as well as 5-in-1 cables that have connectors for multiple systems from around that time.
