Here is a video that goes over current SD card specifications pretty well. I'll post what I got out of it and a little bit of additional research:

CAPACITY

There are three different types of SD cards that indicate a size range. SD cards are up to 2GB and are useless for our purposes. SDHC cards are from 4-32 GB and are ill-advised since 32GB isn't really enough. What we're interested in is SDXC cards which are from 64GB to 2TB. Each card has a micro version which is what we need. Capacity type doesn't have an impact on performance.

WRITE SPEED

There are two different families of speed classes that indicate a minimum write performance. The first, traditional speed class comes in Class 2, Class 4, Class 6, and Class 10. The number corresponds to their write speed, Class 2 is 2MB/s, class 10 is 10MB/s. This class is denoted by their number inside of a "C".

The other family of speed class is UHS. There are only two types, type 1 and type 3. These are denoted by their number inside of a "U" shaped symbol. UHS1 writes at 10MB/s, UHS3 writes at 30MB/s. That means the Class 10 and UHS1 have the same minimum write performance, but we're just going to look at UHS cards from now on. It is possible for a card to claim a UHS class speed, and a Class 10 speed.

Bus Interface

There are two different bus interfaces for UHS cards, UHS-I and UHS-II. These are denoted by roman numerals rather than our numbers. UHS-II cards have a second row of connection pins on the back of the card, while UHS-I just has the single row. UHS-II cards can transfer data faster than UHS-I cards when they are in a UHS-II compatible machine. If the machine is not UHS-II compatible then there is no benefit, however the UHS-II card will still work as it is backwards compatible. It does not look like the Nintendo Switch is UHS-III compatible, so there is no benefit to using a UHS-II card in it, which is a shame because the II interface can help read speeds tremendously.

So what is Nintendo recommending with OP's card? A microSDXC UHS3-I card. Meaning it is a micro version of a 64GB card, with the best write speed class, and the standard/worse Bus interface.

Nintendo-licensed Sandisk microSDXC 64GB UHS3-I for $19.99

Non licensed Sandisk microSDXC 64GB UHS3-I card for $23

/u/Nobody_is_lurking posted two contenders...

Sandisk microSDXC 64GB UHS1-I card for $14.25

Sandisk microSDXC 128GB UHS1-I card
for $23.25

...but it isn't actually an apples to apples comparison, as they are both UHS1 rather than UHS3. The $6 question is how big of a difference is there functionally between the two speed classes when actually being used by a Switch, which someone already took the time to test!

The results show that, when write speed was involved, the difference was significant, and that installed games can go by 3x faster using a UHS3 card. So sure, the UHS3 is a clear winner for installing, but what people really care about are load times, showed a less drastic story. Installing locally on the Switch beats any external storage options that we're looking at, then the UHS3 trailed shortly behind, with UHS1 following a little longer. For a regularly installed game the difference in load times doesn't seem to be more than a couple of seconds, even if the load time is a minute long. This guy also tested homebrew launched games though, which did show a much bigger difference between UHS1 and UHS3. So there is a difference in load time, but just not a massive one that many people would notice.

Looking at value, for whatever reason the Nintendo-licensed cards are currently cheaper than their equivalent nonlicensed cards, both the 64Gb and 128GB. Obviously the UHS-1 is cheaper than the UHS-3 across the board.

But if you want to branch away from Sandisk you can have the best of both worlds with a Samsung 64GB UHS3-I card for $15 The price per MB stays consistent at bigger sizes as well, so if you wanted a 128GB one it'd be $30.

tl;dr Buy this one. It is better and cheaper.

I just got a switch and love everything I bought. It really depends on what you're going to do with it. If it's for portable gaming, a stand is a must. The HORI stand is only $14 US and allows you to charge while playing.

If you plan on playing with friends, consider another set of joy cons. I also invested in Surge joy con grips so they felt more comfortable in my hand.

If you plan on playing a lot of single player, then pro controller.

I plan on mostly single player and couch co-op games, so here's what I bought:

Screen Protector

Joy Con charging station

Extra Joy Con set

4 Joy Con grips

Pro Controller

*Links are just to show what I bought, and in no way reflect the best/most reasonable price

Since I'm not going to be doing much portable, I held off on stand and case, but will most likely purchase when I am in need. Maybe the stand sooner than later so my wife can watch her shows and I can play my Zelda :)

u/queuebitt · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Those kind of products are more about convenience than being the best option.

You definitely want a screen protector. The amFilm 2-pack is considered the best around here.

You also want a carrying case. I recommend either the Hestia Goods or Butterfox models. I have the former and love it. The later is the most recommended around Reddit.

Between the screen protector and case from Amazon you're at the same $20 as the starter kit. So you can either get two high quality items, or more lower (but doable) quality items.

u/BirdAlien · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I would suggest an SD card if you're thinking about buying anything digital in the future.

As for games, I would recommend MK8DX. I also have a younger sis, she loves the game - the smart steering really helps her not get frustrated by running into walls or being confused on where to go like in the other mario karts. Have fun :)

u/SuperGiantKid · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I bought this one. It is way too expensive if you compare it with others but it's one of the very few which can charge the Switch while playing and that too at a good rate. Also, it charges itself pretty quickly because of the fast charger provided with it. If it's able to fast charge my phone as well then that would be awesome!

u/Dcon6393 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I actually own this case, but this one looks exactly the same. So assuming that both cases are the same:

Its pretty sweet. It does the basics and thats all I really need for it. I would say the only negative is the game holders. They are a little tough to slide games into. But I have another case for games that I can just slide into the case anyway.

You can fit a good amount of joy cons in it, assuming that is what you would want to carry with it. If you are looking for something that can store a pro controller/the dock look elsewhere though.

I went ahead and scrubbed through and am gonna also compile a list of games available for pre-order through Amazon. Eligible for 20% off for Prime subscribers! Some product pages will show as Switch Title [Number] but once in your cart they will display the proper name. Amazon does not charge you until the product is shipped!

I would suggest the following screen protector, it has been pretty solid for me, I have screwed up a couple times applying a second one though, so you may want to grab 2 sets just in case, make sure you apply it in a fairly dust free environment...

For the case, if you can, I would suggest getting the Zelda Special Edition, it comes with a pretty solid case along with music CD and such, Good build quality

u/KurisuFuransu · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I'm unsure if it matters for the Switch, but these are U1 rated, guaranteed minimum data speed of 10mbps. Samsung has a U3 (30mbps) card for only slightly more:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MicroSD-Adapter-MB-ME128GA-AM/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526399448&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+128

I still don't need a MicroSD card quite yet for my Switch, but Sandisk and Samsung are both solid names in the memory space, so I'd trust either of them. Hopefully the 256GB returns to a good price, the 128GB sure seems like a deal.

u/GRtheRaffler · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Just purchased a brand new Switch from Amazon, along with screen protectors and a case. Only game I have ATM is a physical copy of Super Mario Odyssey (48.7$ from Amazon). Got 52$ left on Amazon as gift balance, and wanted to know if there is something else I should purchase from there (accessories or games, doesn't matter). I assume I need to look for physical cartridges locally henceforth. What other stuff should I look out for?

P.S. Not purchasing BOTW. Already finished it. Looking mostly for local MP/coop stuff to play with my younger sis, like MK8, Bomberman etc.

u/MystycMoose · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Amazon warehouse deals has the pre-owned "used good" consoles for $211 today, old model. It's about $263 - 20% (~$52) discount shown in cart.

nintendo switch - gray joy-con - hac 001 (discontinued by manufacturer)

nintendo switch - neon red and neon blue joy-con - hac 001 (discontinued by manufacturer)

Look for "other buying options" and condition "used - good" from seller "Amazon warehouse deals". There will be a tagline under the listing "20% off. Discount taken at checkout"

7 left (grey) and 1 left (neon). Happy shopping!

Those cases look pretty thick, do you have one of those? I'm looking for one to hold a very large battery charger, like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Delivery-Charger-Portable/dp/B01MZ61PRW

Looks like it's pretty thick enough to hold extra joycons so I think it would work, what are your thoughts?

Amazon says they'll have more in stock in one week on June 7

Best of luck if you plan on getting it like that!

It's nice that someone could pick up the EVO+ from Best Buy right away, but the Samsung Evo Selects are the same price on Amazon and have better write speeds https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=twister_B071R715MZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It really is. I just saw the 26800 one go for 88 bucks as well so I posted that up also. Might be worth a look if you're in the market.

Worked for me just now. Had to actually purchase the games and then the chat rep processed a refund for me.

Got Links Awakening + Mario Kart 8 for $59.99, AND got a $10 gift card too for some reason. Not too shabby.

Edit: $10 gift card was because I chose local pickup instead of shipping.

Edit 2: I decided to get a little cheeky and buy some peripherals that are on sale, too.

This 26,800mAh powerbrick: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZ61PRW/

And this portable 15" monitor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TWGBG3P/

The powerbrick can power the monitor and pass through to charge the switch. Sweet.

u/ticktak10 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Yeah I felt that too when I tried the demo on the switch. I think it is because of the offset analog sticks when compared to the playstation's controller with the analog sticks on the same axis. I've seen a usb dongle that can allow the switch to accept any bluetooth controller so you could play with a ps3 or ps4 controller. These are two I've looked at since the regular joycons keep cramping my hands.

Here's the Amazon link with out any tracker in url link

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS6MO77/

Basically, having this "https://www.amazon.com/dp/" as base and then looking for "B0......" as you saw from my link. Done! And if it was .../B01MS6MO77?ref=... , don't include ?ref=... until the end. This is also the tracker that saying where did you come from.

B01MS6MO77 is like an ID for the item you are looking on Amazon. So this is all you need.

Hope this help!

Just a heads up, do not get this one. It protects nicely, but even with a perfect application the edges lift up in two spots.

u/augowl_ · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

There is a conversion (link) that you can take the innards from a Nintendo first party dock and fill in the shell. It's more expensive, but the only 100% safe route to a portable dock.

I still haven't seen any brick reports from the Insignia dock either, but I can't recommend any third party dock anymore since it could potentially be brickable by a future update.

u/Breadland · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

The 128GB version is also $51 with free shipping from a trusted seller.https://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B072RT1R41/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Ignore the 128GB EVO+. Turns out there's both EVO+ and EVO Plus cards from Samsung, and the + variant is much slower, especially in write speeds.

For 128GB I'd stick with the Sandisk Ultra.

The Sandisk Ultra 64GB card is also $26.72 with free Prime shipping. https://www.amazon.ca/SanDisk-Ultra-microSDXC-Adapter-SDSQUAR-064G-GN6MA/dp/B073JYVKNX/ref=pd_cp_147_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=4P9X75DYF2BGQ0TRX8MA

Do not under any circumstances buy 3rd party Switch docks. Buy one of these if you want a travel dock.

BASSTOP Portable Dock Replacement Case for Nintendo Switch (Only The case, You Have to DIY with The Circuit Board chip from The Original Dock) (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YVC3NJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ihc5CbWGMJX51

You have to transfer internals from your Nintendo dock to the basstop. But you'll save yourself a bricked Switch.

u/jpw547 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I have the amFilm tempered glass screen protector on mine and I really like it. I was hesitant about a screen protector at first because I normally don't put them on my devices, but I can hardly even tell that this one is on my Switch. No issues with glare that I've noticed either, and it's usually <= $10. (And that comes with 2, in case you mess up or wanna give one to a friend)

I don't have a battery pack for it, but I've been looking into them for a buddy of mine who is going on a trip from the US to the UK in a few months. The one I've been really thinking about is the RAVPower 20100 . It's on the more expensive end (~$50) but it is compatible with the Switch and will charge it ~3-4 times and only takes 4-5 hours to recharge the power bank.

As for the case I got one at Toys R Us last summer for about $20 and it has been fine. It's got some padding to protect the screen, and has these little plastic cases that can hold like 3 games and an SD card each I think... It doesn't have a ton of storage space, but it works. It depends on how much you want to put in there, but you definitely want some inside padded layer that lays on top of the screen so that nothing you put in there will put too much pressure on there.

u/RickyCZ · 28 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

If you are going full digital the mininum you need is 200/256GB but if you still buy physical games then 128GB is good enough. I bought one with 128GB but from Samsung because I trust them more when it comes to flash storage(Their SSDs are great) and because I have read multiple times that you can get fake ones when buying this SanDisk model even with Amazon as a seller.

Here is the Samsung model if you want to purchase one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP/

That is my go to sd card for Switch and certain other devices.

u/bosox284 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Well, not quite. It's still a good deal, but the price has been dropping all year. It also hasn't been over $250 on Amazon at all this year.

u/jononarf · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Digital codes for BotW, Super Mario Odyssey, XBC2, and Yoshi were a bit cheaper on Amazon.

u/on8wingedangel · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

DON'T USE THIS, strong likelihood of bricking your Switch. Buy this instead and a spare first-party dock to transplant into it. I did it myself, it was pretty easy.

u/truemeliorist · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

If you want the middle of the road, you can get the 400G card for 52.99, with prime.

I have two of these, they work great.

u/carbonxe · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

> (terrible memory-per-$ value since you could just buy two 128GBs for $40 lol).

Then you have to swap between 2 cards. The 256GB Samsung is way overpriced, especially since you can just get this SanDisk for $44.99. The extra $5 to not have to swap between cards is well worth it IMO.

The one you linked doesn’t have the USB C PD or Power Delivery. It won’t charge the Switch at a high rate. In other words, when you’re playing a game the switch won’t be charging. It could be maintaining power, but it won’t go up power wise.

Now there isn’t a risk of buying the above. It’s a solid power bank but it’s not optimal.

There is a twin of the one linked in the deal that doesn’t have the branding and is sold for $30 or more less than the branded one. If you’re patient you can find it for $20-$35. I got a used one from eBay for under $20.

Here’s a link to the twin on amazon:

Assuming that Screen protector is plastic, you probably shouldn't use it, all you would be doing is putting plastic on plastic.

I recommend getting a protector made out of Tempered Glass like this instead.

u/bruce_wayne23 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

The claim that the switch only supports UHS-1 cards does not mean it wont work. You need at least a minimum of a U1 and U3 cards such as the Samsung WILL work. The U basically is just speed and won't matter on the Switch.

So the for people that prefer Samsung storage they can also get the same size 128gb for $19.99 from Samsung as well.

I reshelled my dock into the BASSTOP Shell for $13, & it takes up half the space under the Switch in the Skull&Co case. I can fit a set of Joy Cons or my skinny Hori game case next to it. However, I can't get my Switch to dock in it with the Skull&Co case on it, only 'naked', although the TV detects it as an input, it just shows a black screen. I never tried docking it in the original dock with the case on it. Also, it doesn't include a spot for the green LED, but I just stuck it in the back air vent. Overall, a very solid travel dock!

u/veriix · -1 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I'm not understanding why this is such an amazing deal. Isn't this just an overpriced "switch" branded UHS Speed Class U3 Speed Class 10 Micro SD card that can be bought every day without the "Switch" branding for $19-$20 Example

u/largepanda · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

The AmazonBasics Switch Case is fucking fabulous. I have the yellow puke green colored one, and it's great.

Every tempered glass screen protector for the Switch (perhaps excluding the Zagg InvisibleShield one) is the exact same protector, made by the same factory in China, and just put in a different shaped box with different branding and applicator tools.

I suggest the amFilm shaped box, it's the one I bought personally and had a good experience getting a replacement when I managed to accidently crack the first one I got during application, and then fuck up putting on the second one :/.

I was reading that the switch only supports UHS-1, those are USH-3 so you wont be able to take advantage of the difference of speed. I'm actually going to buy one this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JYC4XM/ for a few dollars less.

u/MatNomis · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I've looked it up in the past, I'll do it again. I'm 99% certain these two powerbanks are identical. The extra 100mah seems to be irrelevant, and just part of the naming more than anything else.

Anker PowerCore Speed 20000

Anker PowerCore 20100 Switch Edition

Note: I provided Amazon links for uniformity's sake. Right now, the Amazon price on the Switch edition is very expensive, at $150. I think it's usually $90-$100 at the brick and mortars (Best Buy, Target, etc..)

The non-sale prices are typically very similar (barring Amazon's really high price on the Switch-branded one), with the main difference is that the unbranded one includes a PD USB-C AC Adapter, which is very handy if you don't have an extra one. The Switch's AC adapter works beautifully, but depending on your setup, it may not be convenient to be taking that around (e.g. for me, I have mine more or less permanently plugged into my dock--it's a pain to move it around frequently). Charging these banks with a USB-A to USB-C cable and a standard USB3 port (even a power-boosted one) takes a very long time. Charging via a proper USB-C to USB-C cable and a sufficiently juicy PD-capable AC adapter speeds up charging dramatically.

(edit: reorganized my paragraphs for better flow; added sentence about the Switch's AC adapter)

I got the Switch w/ Mario Kart bundle from Amazon Warehouse for $300 total. It was in "very good" condition. Was this a good deal or should I wait until Black Friday and cancel this order?

The link won’t work because it’s a prime day deal, you just have to go to amazon, prime day deals, and look for this. If you use a link it takes you to the OG price like up there

Looks like amazon price matched it.

For this price, I would rather suggest that you wait for the Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD powerbank because it comes with a 30W wall charger and the powerbank itself supports the fast USB-C power delivery. Currently it sells at $79.99 but I got it at $49.99 in a lightning deal mid-February.

You can add this to your Amazon watch list or a Keepa account to be notified the next time it has a lightning deal:

200GB is $35 less, easy call imo. You're not likely to miss 56GB when you've got this much.

u/Morgoul · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Is this a good card and price?

Also wondering about the 256 GB one as I haven't decided yet

Thanks!

Edit:

It’s on Amazon Prime Now (US) I finally figured out how to share a link https://primenow.amazon.com/dp/B01MS6MO77

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWZWYVP is still better imho since it's a U3 card and it's regular price is ~$40. If that card goes on sale (or an equivalent) then I'd buy it.

u/StrawberryWizardVamp · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I just checked and it’s the same price on amazon as well. Maybe everyone is just price matching each other.

I bought the amazon version a few months back : Samsung 256GB 100MB/s (U3) MicroSDXC EVO Select Memory Card with Full-Size Adapter (MB-ME256GA/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072HRDM55/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_D0GXDb4CSV9X8

It’s slightly more expensive so not too mad I missed out on this one

This is the one that I bought. It’s a really good case, but has a weird smell to it!

Hopefully this helps people from having to buy two SD cards..

Here’s a SanDisk 400gb for $53 (USD).

I dread the day I’ll have to replace. Hopefully I won’t

It seems that your comment contains 1 or more links that are hard to tap for mobile users.
I will extend those so they're easier for our sausage fingers to click!

I highly recommend anyone looking to do memory expansion for their Switch to not go with the particular version of the Sandisk Ultra microSD cards. You'll be better served getting either this Sandisk Ultra or the Samsung Evo that /u/Squidula linked to in his comment.

Both have 100mb/s Read/Write speeds versus this one's 48mb/s speed. Some games may lag or just not load at the lower speed and it's only going to be more and more of a requirement to have the 100mb/s speed in the future.

u/pedrobortolli · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I know it's a little over the price you guys are talking about, but I got a sandisk 400gb one for 55 bucks the other day from Amazon, and it's not even a "sale":

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-400GB-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B074RNRM2B

u/raizen0106 · 11 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

also 400GB version (was posted at $78 earlier) just went down to $62.30 as well

kinda hard to choose between them now

u/Inspire_Strikes_Back · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Does this sd card on amazon work in the Switch? I think it does but want to confirm before purchasing.

Edit: Should have just looked at the Q&A before commenting here. It works

u/Dr_Dugtrio · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Not entirely true. Nintendo stupidly doesn't use the IF certified PD protocol instead they use their own stupid flavor. All PD(Power Delivery) are not the same and the Nintendo Licensed ones are made to be an exact fit with what the switch is drawing.

Aditionally not all PD chargers put out the same wattage which is wy some will charge your switch during play and others will not.

The main benefit to this charger is there is effectively a 0% change it will brick your switch where some other chargers are not as safe. On top of that it has the second fastest PD protocol on it and is a smaller form factor and charge than other PD chargers. Yes you are still paying a small premium for the Switch logo but only when compared to other PD chargers. See this 2100mAh licensed charger vs This same battery - the nintendo protocol + a 30w wall charger for 10$ more.

Note that Amazon has the newer SDSQUAR with 100MB/s read speeds for $49.99 (temp out of stock)

u/TheMentalist10 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Average of the last 50 price changes on Amazon is £63.96; Argos seem to be charging £84.99 for some reason.

Not a historic low according to CamelCamelCamel, but not far off.

u/KtarnJ · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Was able to place an order at $18.21, lets see if it ships or gets cancelled. You have to list all the sellers to see the $18.21 price: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B071X7QQKZ/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

edit
Looks like the listing is now gone.

I found another option for 49.99. It’s here .

If you happen to live around Indianapolis you can get this for $26 through Prime Now.
