> but at least they should have put a big red label on the store page saying: This game requires a controller

I agree! It should be clearly labelled, because even if I don't agree with it completely, there is a certain expectation that any pc game should work with M+KB, and hiding information like that just infuriates consumers.
I also concede to your original point, that mouse control in menus would have been nice, at least.

Why would one own a controller as a pc gamer?

Sure you don't have to own one, especially if you don't plan on playing any games, that benefit from it. However a lot of pc gamers refuse buy a controller out of principle and I disagree strongly with that point of view. Why would one limit oneself that way?! I think I bought a 360pad the day I bought my first game, that was said to be better with controller (might have been Dark Souls... maybe) and I haven't regretted it. Occasionally I pull it out for a platformer or something. Again if you didn't need one yet, sure, whatever. But in the long term there will eventually come along a game that will benefit greatly from owning one and I think that's the point in time, where buying a controller > complaining, about a game not/barely supporting M+KB.

Whoah I rambled there. Some of that is more of a general sentiment, than specifically addressed at you. For context, I guess :-)

Suggestions?
Well the absolutely safest option is an official Xbox (or Xbox-like) controller from Microsoft, like this
It's the easiest, because with it being a Microsoft product, the chance of you running into any driver/compatibility issues are non-existent. Also XInput (the specific button scheme) is the most widely supported by pc games. Not every game is able to display button prompts for PS-controllers, for example. You could of course also go with any other XInput controller by third party manufacturers, but I don't have any experience in that regard.

I actually think Ieyasu is interesting in his own right, not just for setting in motion one of the largest times of national peace in the history of modern civilization (like since 1 AD), but because of his life story and how he was willing to sacrifice everything for his goal, which he saw as larger than himself.

Hideyoshi was interesting in his own right; rising from the ranks of sandal-bearer to Shogun, and then realizing that, in order to keep his power, he has to stop other people from doing what he did, and so creates a class system. Even in his infamous sword-hunt, he used much of the metal to build a giant Buddha statue, which appeased the peasants he was simultaneously oppressing.

However, I think Hideyoshi was a bit unstable as a leader and his leadership would have never led to lasting peace, e.g. those invasions of Korea.

p.s. If you are looking for translations from those times, I might recommend the books from my Japanese Politics Through the Ages class. Here is the first one It's not actually translations of personal writings of any of the leaders, but it's all the legal and political decrees and proclamations through the ages, and so is a fantastic Primary Source collection.

p.p.s. i think Nioh's interpretation of Tokugawa as a character is really cool. Not only does it match the attitude that I've grown to know from the writings about him, but the portrayal has a feeling of a real badass who knows exactly what he is doing.

It's an AMD one less powerful than an i5 and on Win 7 (this processor: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009O7YU56/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) . As I said a see a lot of people with the issue. I've refunded the game now but I hope one day I can go back to it! I feel as though it was something to do with some aspect of my graphics cards software but not sure what. The processor is certainly showing its age now. :)

Definitely get Art of Armor: Samurai Armor From the Ann and Gabriel Barbier Mueller Collection. It's got a decent amount of credible historical information and background about Samurai with tons of pictures of armor from their catalog. Relatively recent book. You can see it in the Amazon link below, but I would suggest going to their website http://samuraicollection.org/ and emailing them for a copy since it's cheaper, although for some reason they haven't renewed their domain, maybe check their facebook for an email or go to a library. I got the book from a museum that they previously toured to exhibit their pieces. You'll find sets similar to the Tatenashi/Heike/Karakawa in here.

Another one that is relevant for Nioh is Spectacular Helmets of Japan 16th-19th Century. Kind of an old book and it has limited information but you'll find some of the same odd revenant Kabutos in there haha. Literally the exact helmets.

Another one, I forgot the name but it's something like Japanese Art and Armor but I can't locate it on google for some reason, read that at my school library.

I'm like you and used to play games on my 37 inch flatscreen for at least five years all the souls games etc but this is the best purchase I've ever made

Cool, thank you! I own a copy of a similar book, the Night Parade of One Hundred Demons, and I'd certainly recommend it; particularly because it has full-colour illustrations of all the featured Yokai.

This is a book I have - it is one of the most extensive collections of samurai arms and armour in the world. I saw the exhibition in the Canadaian national museum in Quebec City 5 or so years ago.

The intro chapters describe in great detail the Edo period described in the game, and it is all surprisingly accurate. The kabuto designs and armor in general is extremely accurate in re: to the historical examples, even including several of the battles and palaces in the game.

i'm using a laptop i bought like 6 months ago with an i3-7100U Dual-Core 2.40 GHz processor
as for the more specific stuff, you can see it here; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N9C7EMK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i know that because its a laptop not meant to run games is the reason why its running poorly, but i just need to know if theres something i can do to at least make it playable on the lowest settings

hummm

tried that buff/dodge/buff , doesn't work for me

plus since I have several buff to activate (4 at the very least, then optional luckbringer, pleiad, etc..) i simply cannot have them all in shortcuts..

pressing second buff on a specific frame is imho incompatible while in a fight which is the whole point of the mystic art. (again imho)

queueing the buffs was an awesome way to get them all applied in an efficient way and this is broken.

broken because you get the sound fx but not the buff, or the shortcuts square icon animates but the buff is not applied , etc etc.

the GUI is inconsistent.

I have to wait, then check if buff is activated. this is just not acceptable .

if i turn the steering wheel to the right, i expect the car to turn right, not to have to maybe turn the wheel some more.. basic interface design..

these devs should read Jef Raskin

I read that this change in the behavior was in response to the fact that you would sometime spend two buff when pressing the button only once. well the quick fix is badly in so many ways...

wrong decision : force a delay

wrong implementation : the gui response and the sound fx response is not dependant on buff activating but on activation button being pressed

how i would have done it:

have an extra settings : allow reapplying of buff: yes no combat / out of combat

yes => you can activate a buff ontop of itself, renewing its timer

no => if a buff is active, you cannot re-apply it.

with condition in combat out of combat.
