I think reforestation is an important part of carbon mitigation, but I definitely don't think it should be the only means of tackling climate change.

Regardless, you've made several mistakes. You're off by a factor of ten for carbon capture through photosynthesis by trees, it's about 56 kgC/year per tree (Annual Review of Energy and the Environment).

While deforestation may increase the albedo and consequently also the cooling effect - this is only true north of 45 deg latitude. This cooling effect diminishes the further south you get, and with a net warming effect south of 35 deg latitude. Adding more trees in the equatorial latitudes would be beneficial for the climate and also help increase biodiversity. (Nature)

Not going to bother checking your arithmetic since many of the base assumptions are wrong, but it's still good to think about the math behind what it'd actually take address climate change on a global scale. I recommend you read Consider a Spherical Cow. It's a great book on environmental problem solving. Understandable for interested people who aren't in the STEM field and shows you how to solve for approximate solutions to real world problems. I think it gives really good insight into a variety of environmental issues.

Most popular is probably Images of America: Malibu. I get compliments on that all the time. https://www.amazon.com/Malibu-Images-America-Ben-Marcus/dp/073857614X

Most successful is The Shorebreak Art of Clark Little. He sold 10,000 copies of that at $100 to $250, and that's good for a book: https://clarklittlephotography.com/products/shorebreak-art-limited-signed-edition

Skateboard: The Good, the Rad and the Gnarly was translated into French and almost won a 3000 Euro prize for Sports Book of the Year in France. They were going to fly me to Monaco and put me up in the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel, and the thing was, I didn't even know they had translated it into French.

The hardcover versions sells for over $100, which is shocking: https://www.amazon.com/Skateboard-Style-Stoke-Hardback-Common/dp/B00FKYPZJM/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=The+skateboard+marcus&qid=1567218903&s=gateway&sr=8-5

This is the French version. I like the cover better: https://www.amazon.com/Skateboard-rue-rampe-Ben-Marcus/dp/2366025408/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=skateboard+de+la+rue+a+la+rampe&qid=1574212512&s=books&sr=1-1

Those are probably the big three.

Here's all of them: http://www.benmarcusrules.com/books

Either you don't understand Elon's objectives for any of his businesses, or you just don't care to see them through. Everything he's taken on he tries to find new efficiencies. Boring Company goal, improve tunneling efficiency, SpaceX goal, make a better, cheaper rocket. Tesla goal, make a more efficient vehicle that doesn't require as much maintenance, make production more efficient through new manufacturing techniques. Yes, the Tesla goals are extremely ironic at the moment.

Of course it's obvious the hell that they're in is of their own making - that's the cost of trying something new. He doesn't want business as usual, to just nibble away market share from other companies, he wants to change how the whole system works.

I really feel like people here should read this book about him: https://www.amazon.com/Elon-Musk-SpaceX-Fantastic-Future/dp/006230125X

It is not overtly pro Elon, not even close. The book does a great job showing where he's screwed some things up, including being a dick for a boss. But I think it'd shed a lot of insight to his mindset on his businesses and why he is choosing to run them this way.

Wow thanks for the gold and the sticky, glad to see other people find this interesting too. Not gonna lie I'm also pretty excited about getting tweeted by MachinePlanet.

It's easy to draw parallels between any 2 things, but the volume of similarities here goes beyond that. I reread Bad Blood recently and didn't see nearly this much overlap. The main takeaway is that both Enron and Tesla started out with good intentions but their arrogance wouldn't allow them to admit when things needed to change.

Anyone interested in this type of thing should definitely check out The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron. Here's a few other recommendations that cover business failures. And of course if you haven't read Bad Blood yet do that as soon as possible, can't recommend it highly enough.

Cheap laser diodes are very hard to stabilize. Might have better results from a HeNe.

I've got a massive granite slab floated on water filled truck suspension bags. A good substitute is a deep box filled with sand and a piece of kitchen thickness granite counter on top. Tack everything down with beeswax for alignment.

If you don't already have it, get this book ==> Scientific American -- Light and Its Uses, a collection of articles form C.L. Strong's The Amateur Scientist.

A great read about what went on in the GM plants in the 70's and 80's.
This kind of stuff goes on everywhere, except for the horse. That seems to be Tesla specific.
