I have an 8" Shun Ken Onion right now and I love it. It's my first real quality knife so I don't have a ton of other cutlery with which to judge it by, but the balance is awesome on it and it holds an edge really well. I usually hone it with the shun steel ever 2 or 3 times I use it and it's back to it's razor sharp self right after. I would agree with one of the reviews on Amazon that said "I didn't know what sharp was until I got this knife". I think they're set at a 16 degree angle, which is a bit steeper than most knives I believe. Though I think Wusthof does 14 on some of theirs.

I've had a couple of stamped kitchen aid style santoku knives and I've used my sister's Wustof set, but I think my Shun outshines those quite a bit.

If I had a choice I would've gotten a 10" blade. The 8" is great for most every day home cooking, but it would be nice if it was a bit longer for things like breaking down melons and larger items.

I was able to get a crazy good deal on it last year right after new years it was around $90 for the 8" with the bamboo rack. So I would shop around a bit, and if you can wait for holiday sales you can probably get a good deal on whatever knife you decide on.

I have the Wahl Peanut. It's pretty basic but I like that it runs on a single (rechargable) AA and never really suffers from a decrease in power. Comes with 5 length attachments. It's small, you never need to plug it in, and it gets the job done. And it's pretty cheap. I love mine.

I have been using these for the past couple of years and they are pretty amazing. My ears do get a bit sore after using them for an extended period of time (3+ hours) but that hasn't bothered me too much. I have been using new ear pads for about a year now (I ordered some last August) and they're still in pretty good condition). The thing about new ear pads is that they make the headphones feel brand new again. My pair was purchased by my dad almost twenty years ago and they're still in great condition. I have heard from my cousin who has purchased a few pairs of these is that the ones they produce now are inferior compared to the pair I own because they're made of plastic and not metal anymore. I have another cousin who bought these and they are just about equal sound-wise. She also says her ears don't get sore from them, but that they can get really hot after an extended period of time.

I have a Panasonic SD-YD250 and have had it for about a year. I go through phases where I'm making bread every couple of days, then ignore it for a month or so.

I've been happy with it, and have tried white, whole wheat, rye, and gluten free breads with it. Overall, I have been happy with it, although I haven't tried all the modes yet. I really like the the crust darkness control, as I do like a thick crust.

I tried banana bread once, and it turned out ok, I should probably have mixed it then put it in a pan to bake.

It does have a pizza mode and a mix-only, or bake only mode as well.

lenovo have got some pretty good work laptops with good intel i7 processors and for this particular model, 6 gb ram, which are both essential for video and music production.

Acer has a decent model one with a good i7 processor but only 4 Gb ram, which might not be enough for heavy workloads.

Samsung has another good model, which has similar specs to the lenovo (6 gb ram, i7 processor) but seems to be out of stock on amazon, but you could buy it in shops anyways.

Acer model

Samsung model

There's probably a bit more out there that I might have missed, so shop around if you can ;)

edit: you should be able to play most N64 emulators on almost any laptop these days, but I'm not sure about running portal on integrated graphics cards which all of these have, you'll have to look for something more expenive for games.

Need it cold? Think it's impossible?

Boom. This thread is done. GET OUT OF MY FACE if you think this isn't the best thing you've ever seen. This 30-something dollar purchase was the best money I've ever spent. Buckwheat is fucking weird, but I sleep like a champion with it.

I'll go on record right now: I won't ever review anything as highly as this pillow as long as I'm a subscriber to this reddit.

Disclaimer: I just searched for buckwheat pillow on amazon, results may vary by brand, but mine wasn't anything crazy expensive

I used to work for a music company, and if you want a pair of studio-grade headphones, the creme de la creme are the Beyer Dynamic DT 770 PRO headphones for $170. These are the headphones musicians use to record their music.

  • super comfortable
  • doesn't leak sound
  • you will hear bass like you've never heard it before

logitech x-530 are really good. Dont recommend ones under $30 though if you want bass and loud clear sound. Logitech overall has really good ones. My cousin has these and they sound great too when he was playing Crysis and Battlefield.

Does anybody know of some good in ear headphones which are relativity cheap (£40ish max) but still really good?

The same question but about over ear headphones, cheapish (£40ish max) but really good? I was considering these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD201-Closed-Back-Headphones/dp/B0007XJSQC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312201282&sr=8-1

The best thing I ever used was Natures Cure

It was a pill system that only cost ~$20 and came with some cream. The difference was noticeable in 3 days.

This had amazing results and I never once heard of ay dangers associated with
Everyone I know that use this product had great results.

Audio-Technica ANC7 Very favorable reviews on Amazon compared to Bose. Good if you want value.

If you want top of the line noise cancelling headphones where money is no object then get the Sennheiser PXC 450

I do all my running with koss porta-pros
http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1312182162&sr=1-1
These have been around since the 80's and are still some of the highest reviewed headphones around. For the price they can't be beat. And for running they're extremely lightweight and the fit is adjustable. There is a foam pad that rests on your head just above the ear and you can adjust how much pressure is on the pad versus on your ear. Result; super light headphones that don't bounce around and sound pretty damn good for around 30 bucks

I've had the Logitech X-230 speakers for about 3 years. Extremely happy with them. They sound really good, even when you crank it to 11.

I love this watch. Beautiful in person, and can be adjusted to fit any wrist. I hate how bulky most men's wristwatches are.

Check your local thrift stores. You'd be surprised how often you find great, almost-new appliances for under $10.

My mother uses one of these she got at the thrift store for $5 or so. She's been using it constantly, sometimes multiple times a day, for bread, pizza dough, you name it.

Are you looking for gas or charcoal? I have a Weber One-Touch 22.5" and I am absolutely in love with it.

I can't recommend the Sennheiser HD 202's enough. Don't let the price fool you. I've been buying these headphones for years. (Actually the model I own isn't currently in production but was succeeded by the HD 202's). I accidentally broke my last pair and just bought a new pair of these. I own many different headphones including a pair of AKG-K701's and I actually prefer the Sennheisers for most casual listening.
