    -------------

There is a huge amount of buyers remorse in dash cams. What I can say is fully research the dash cams you want, and the dash cams you don't, so at least you understand your decisions. Picking Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode, and good/fair video quality dash cams is a lot less hassle, above I listed only Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode, good/Fair video quality dash cams, but there are Excellent video quality, Fair/poor build quality, lackluster parking mode dash cams out there that is worth knowing about. Anyways good luck in your decisions.

*Edit: Prices change rapidly in the dash cam market, however, the copy pasta does not. I have seen prices rise rapidly, and fall just as fast, for no apparent reason, even as newer models have been released.

Unless you're gonna be using an older phone (one that is not your daily driver). I would highly suggest not using your phone as a dashcam.

Phones are not really set up to record like this. Mostly due to heat, which can cause a slew of problems. The memory and chipsets are also not built for long recordings constantly.

Which is why I would only ever recommend doing this on a phone you don't care about that much.

If money is an issue, there are some pretty good dashcams on the market for a good price. The G1W can be bought for 40-50 bucks depending on where you buy it from and is one of the best cheap entry level cams you can get.

Gearbest has it for $46 right now.

u/pizzaazzip · 1 pointr/Roadcam

That is the same shape I was looking at but the price is way better, plus this one comes with GPS stuff and a capacitor. Thanks for your recommendation! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00TXR2P40/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1464315100&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=B40%2FA118&dpPl=1&dpID=41m3ffJV8RL&ref=plSrch

There is a custom shop by me, I might see of I can get them to put power in the back of my car so I can put my g1w on the back window.

u/Why_Is_This_NSFW · 16 pointsr/Roadcam

And get a fucking dashcam! For all those people (hopefully in the minority on this sub) that don't yet have one. Viofo A119 is like $89, way cheaper than any insurance issues you'll have

I uploaded a video the other day and left my SD card at home. The next morning when I went to work my A119 was chirping at me the entire way to warn me I didn't have a card installed. Of course on my way home I had some asshole run a red light and missed me by about a foot. I have like a 2 mile drive home and nearly got T-boned.

Buy a fucking dashcam, check it regularly to make sure it works. A118, A119, G1W-C or whatever the newest model is. It'll save you so much headache in the long run.

u/Qlanger · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

No; regular ones are made for light usage and not as durable to heat.

High endurance gives up a little performance but can handle more writing and heat better. This is a good one...

Sweet! Thx!

It looks you you set up a relay for them. I'm assuming I'll have to do the same thing if I install aux horns on my car too. It also looks like they're motor driven air horns, rather than speakers. I've been looking at horns like this on Amazon, but the way you went is way more cost-effective!

Do you remember what model of Cadillac you got them off?

>On-board diagnostics, a self-diagnosis system built into cars

Go and click your own link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics No where on that page even mentions ODB.

>Or how about looking at the tools. https://www.amazon.com/Automotive-ODB-OBD-OBD2-OBDII/dp/B00MDKNPLG

Wow, the url has ODB, that's to capture any people searching for an obd scanner who think the term is interchangeable. Good find, a no-name brand sold by unknown.

Here's what you get when you search ODB scanner on Amazon. It autocorrects it to OBD scanner and gives the results. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=odb+scanner

u/csbsju_guyyy · 3 pointsr/Roadcam

I'll jump in since I recently picked up a sub 50 cam plus card. Pretty OK quality, see my recent video here, taken with it

Hey! It's the [Viofo A119] (https://www.amazon.com/Viofo-Camera-Degree-miniUSB-Adapter/dp/B01HVWNFF6) and it's been a solid dashcam over the past three years. I believe they've released an updated model since then but it's capable of doing 1080p @ 60FPS or 1440p @ 30FPS

u/LubbockDashcamGuy · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

I have a Rexing V1P which appears to be lower end compared to yours. The rear camera is just standard def, which is better than no rear camera at all, but high def would be nice.

I may have to upgrade sometime...would the rear camera on yours be mountable on a vertical surface? E.g. the rear window of a truck?

u/raabco · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

FWIW, I wanted something to replace my Android app driven dashcam that would be an install-and-forget cam, so I picked up the cheap G1WH. $53 and shipped from China, it took less than a week and a half to get here and works extremely well for the price. There are plenty of reviews and sample viodeos out there on Youtube if you want to check it out.

u/lildobe · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

I'm late to the party, but I always reccomend this card for dashcams:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V5Q1K3O

I've got them in both of my cameras, and one of them runs 24/7, and I haven't had a problem in over a year now.

u/Comms · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

Those look alot like the Vantrue dashcams.

u/PromQueenSlayer · 4 pointsr/Roadcam

You were not kidding! Amazon lists it as $389 with just the cameras, not including the battery.

Considering the image quality and how low profile and discreet the cameras are, it's not too bad, plus the wifi and 128GB sd support makes it reasonable.

u/leenhowts · 47 pointsr/Roadcam

He's using the Falcon Zero F360 HD DVR drive cam. The left camera is suppose to face the driver. I use this when I drive for Lyft or Uber. I sometimes have both cameras face forward but line them up so it's a solid wide view. Not a bad price for a discreet drive cam.

I bought this.

pruveeo F5

I already started the refund process with amazon.

u/Reapter · 8 pointsr/Roadcam

It was like a 10-15$ one when I originally bought it. It's this one.

The lens protector was removed and the quality was slightly better when I first got it. It seems to have degraded a bit from when I first got it due to the sun, although, the quality wasn't to amazing to begin with.

What kind of cam is this? I am looking at getting one for my girlfriend's car ASAP.

Here is the model I have looked at in the past.

u/Holladay · 1 pointr/Roadcam

GF got me a ZeroEdge Z1 got looks from her family for wanting a dash cam.

u/V1per41 · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

After researching I think I've settled on this one

Wide Angle Mobius ActionCam 1080p HD Camera With Dash Cam Kit (V3 / 820 mAh / Lens C2 / 32GB) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H9TS5HU/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_V7k7xbKFHPCN7

u/alterbyme · 13 pointsr/Roadcam

It's the Anker Roav A1 Dashcam that I had replace my old Mobius action camera due to a sun-damaged lens.

u/Soulflare3 · 11 pointsr/Roadcam

They're all teens, so probably some program AAA did that had parents install both a dashcam and cabin cam to monitor the driving habits of teens. They also appear to have G-Sensors monitoring the vehicle, to show hard braking and/or crashes.

Edit: One thing I didn't think about, there are also dual-camera dashcams that record the road and the cabin in a single unit. You could also simply get a dual-channel (dual-camera) system and mount the second camera in the cabin facing back instead of in the rear window.

u/KeyLimePy · 1 pointr/Roadcam

Just a G1W. Amazon. Even though the raw video quality isn't -that- great, it's a fairly handy cheap little thing. Before getting it I looked up reviews for basic ones and this was pretty much the de facto entry level cam.

u/mikeyBikely · 2 pointsr/Roadcam

I was disappointed with my horn (I can barely hear it) so I upgraded.

u/UncleNorman · 1 pointr/Roadcam

I use this one and the high tone one and they are loud as hell.

So yea, you're simply wrong that ODB isn't used or doesn't mean the same so yea, they ARE used interchangeably... Just because Ol Dirty Bastard uses the abbreviation, doesn't mean other things don't as well.
