I'm glad more people know about this, I don't use Playstation controllers but the issue is the same with Xbox One controllers as well and a few 360 controllers. I don't play Rocket League either haha, I actually found about the issue when playing GTA V on PC, and I noticed that I could spin faster on a bike after switching from my Xbox One controller to my 360 controller. If anyone has any information on how to edit the settings for the Xbox One controller to make the range higher I'd really appreciate, because my only option is to use other controllers.

Anyways hopefully I can help you guys out a bit who are looking for a better controller, I've bought both of these 360 controllers and I've noticed the range of motion is a lot higher than the PS4/XB1 controllers. For some reason it seems like 3rd party controllers have a higher range of motion.

Xbox 360 Afterglow Controller

https://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AX-1-Controller-Xbox-360-Blue/dp/B003ITY98O

Xbox 360 MadCatz Pro

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BQUV4S/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=1944687602&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002MX6TEE&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0RN1H5M4W8PA2F5WZX42

The Afterglow Controller I have has a higher range than the Madcatz controller but the Madcatz controller is still pretty high. Also keep in mind I've had the Afterglow for about 5 years now, so I doubt they would have made any design changes to mess with the range but it's always possible.

One more thing, I don't really expect an answer from this but does anyone know anything about this controller? I've been wondering how the range is compared to the original Xbox One controller.

If you're looking into getting a 144hz monitor, you first need to make sure your machine can output fps higher than 144 consistently at the graphic settings you play at. You can turn on a fps counter in Steam. Make sure the fps isn't limited in Rocket League settings.

Most 144hz monitors cost +$200. You also can't use HDMI to take advantage of the higher refresh rate, you would need a DisplayPort cable or DVI cable. A few possibilities you can check out are below:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_1ykdAb3X3PKNE

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1DEEYP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_iykdAbF7T639T

Then make sure your display adapter properties enables the higher refresh rate on your new monitor. Test the refresh rate at https://www.testufo.com/refreshrate

Although 75hz seems pretty good at the moment. I don't know if you really need to upgrade now, but if you have the extra cash lying around that's up to you.

If you're talking about a general upgrade to improve fps or to play on higher settings, then you probably want to invest into a better graphics card. Look into a gtx 970 or gtx 1060 (or if AMD rx 480 or rx 580). A 1070 or 1080 is probably overkill for 1080p gaming. Those graphic cards have the power to support higher monitor resolutions like 4K. I would ask your friend for advice first since he's the person that made the computer for you so they know what's compatible and what's best for your build.

I feel like in order to play on a 144hz monitor at least on max settings with Rocket League you would at least need at gtx 1060. Your gtx 560 probably isn't powerful enough to utilize a higher refresh rate monitor like 144hz.

Also make sure your power supply unit has enough wattage to power all your new upgrades. You seriously don't want to skimp out on a cheap PSU because those can blow up and cause fires destroying your PC (or worse your house).

Overall you're probably looking at $300-500 if you're going to buy a new graphics card with a 144hz monitor, depending on if you can find good deals or if you buy new.

Idk what is required to run it smoothly but any pc that costs more than 600 should be able to do it amazingly 😂. Don't actually go that high, look around but that's my advice

Also when buying a monitor, this one is 75 Hz and is the best bang for your buck! Makes playing on my xbox feel ALMOST identical to playing on my 1300 ASUS laptop!

If input lag is your issue make sure you have v sync turned off as well. I used to play on a t.v. with 40-50 ms+ of input lag. This monitor minimizes it to less than 10 which is rated as basically the best you can get

Fwiw, I got this one a month or so ago and absolutely love it. Granted, I was coming from a 360, not a One controller, but it's really solid and the textured grips are amazing. It feels super solid overall, construction-wise.

u/Rhymes03 · 1 pointr/RocketLeague

I've heard nothing but awful things about the steam controllers. Other than that its a personal preference. Im using an afterglow xbox 360 controller and its the best. Plus its only $20 on amazon. As long as you dont mind a wired controller. Here is a link to amazon if its something your interested in. Plus you can chose LED colors.

Acer aspire e15 575g.

550$ laptop and you can play with high settings comfortably at 720p getting 50-60 fps. If you want constant 60 you can maybe turn off a few settings.

Tldr ; really great laptop would recommend. You can swap out the ssd yourself if you want to increase storage although I remember seeing a 1tb HDD version on eBay.

Samsung CFG70 Series 24-Inch 1ms Curved Gaming Monitor (C24FG70) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1DEEYP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_EDjdAbZ1YH1DW

This is the one I just got a few weeks back. It's a bit above your price range, but I promise you won't regret it. 144hz makes the game insanely smooth. I have an i7, 1080, and 16gb of ram so I have no issues with dropping below 144.

Good luck man

u/ManMadeBeard · 0 pointsr/RocketLeague

I just bought a dell one with those exact same specs for like 550? lemme find it... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0149QBOF0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Not that bad and works well with my 1080ti =)

Sounds like you will easily get high frame rates. Two months ago I bought a refurbished budget gaming computer with an i5-6400, AMD RX 480, and 8GB ram. If I put the fps cap to 250 in RL, I get about 170-210 fps with all the graphics options on and at the highest quality.

However, I cap it at 142 since I have a Freesync (adaptive sync) 144hz monitor. And it's usually pretty stable at 142 with Spotify, Chrome, and even OBS running at the same time. Discord is fine, too, but if I use the overlay I get frequent drops. Tip: if you use Freesync or G-sync with a compatible 144hz monitor, you'll get the least input lag if you cap the frame rate--within the game--to 141 or 142. If you cap at 144, it actually introduces additional lag when the fps hits 144 (or over which can happen even with a cap).

The monitor is a Viewsonic XG2401: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01A0ZRR50. Great 1080p/144hz monitor and totally worth the money, even if it was the most expensive piece.

My only regret is that I stream sometimes. Since my CPU is only four cores, it can struggle encoding the stream and keeping really high frame rates (RL is actually pretty CPU intensive). So I encode with the GPU, but the quality is not as good. Thankfully, Twitch increased their recommended bitrates for streaming so it's not too bad. If you're thinking of streaming games, you really should consider AMD Ryzen CPUs or wait for the newer Intel ones that are designed more for multithreading.

Suprised no one has mentioned the Dell S2417dg yet. It meets all of your requirements (144Hz, G-sync, ~$400) and adds 1440p. Not sure whats going on with the price atm but sales on it are posted somewhat frequently to r/buildapcsales so if you don't mind waiting thats probably the best option.

If you want 1080p you can get a freesync/nosync for ~$250 (I'll second the recommendation on the Viewsonix XG2401 and you can also consider the LG 24GM77 and BenQ XL2430T). G-sync at 1080p doesn't exist (at a reasonable price) for some reason.

You might be interested in knowing that most analogue pots (the things that the analog joysticks are put onto) are reverse compatible with other analog sticks.

That is to say, if you have a controller you prefer for hand feel, and another you prefer for analogue stick feel, odds are you can buy the analogue joysticks online and swap 'em out. It's like eight screws, and they pop right off.

On this Amazon page, you can see someone replaced the PS4 joysticks with the XBox One joysticks.

My 360 controller's joystick broke, and I replaced with the joystick from a Duke. It works!

u/Dlark121 · 1 pointr/RocketLeague

no worries fam just grab one of these and you can play with one hand. you can remap any button fuction anywhere and there are 4 paddles on the back (two on the right) so the only issue might be using the left stick for looking but no one does that anyways. Also chat might be difficult but hey thats what rehab is for.

edit: oh yeah left is for steering but you can use your hand or thumb if its strong enough

u/TinyTimothy22 · 1 pointr/RocketLeague

Interesting. Most gaming monitors are in the 24" to 27" range. Here's one that's a lot higher than your budget, but is one of the most popular due to everything in the description.

u/Kaharos · 1 pointr/RocketLeague

Usually these things here are decent and it's not too expensive to try out if you got a spare cable. It might very well be that your wifi signal is the problem. Did you move something around? Did you try to play directly next to the router?

Cheers,
Kaharos

Sounds like you're using a controller that doesn't have a proper grip...

You might benefit from some analog stick grips

u/mrniceguy421 · 9 pointsr/RocketLeague

Better

IMO. I used to play with a 360 controller. Then moved to a XB1 controller. Much improved. :D

u/downhillcarver · 2 pointsr/RocketLeague

Dang. Well, if I have to pony up for an official controller anyway, I may as well go big or go home.

u/Heikob · 2 pointsr/RocketLeague

You could always compromise. Maybe a GTX 960m could be enough if you don't max out everything (like AA), or consider a used laptop in good condition.

The $1200 pricetag was for more high-end/premium laptops.
Dell and Acer offer options for a laptop with a GTX 1050/1050 Ti at around $800 (though i'm not fond of the screens and build quality of these). There are also brand new laptops from the previous generations (GTX 900 series) that you can probably find for much cheaper since they need to destock these.

I bought one of these if he can't get any closer. Has to be one of the best purchases I have ever made. It runs your Ethernet over power. It stopped all my lag issues I was having with my router.
[Wired wireless] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AWRUIY4/ref=sxts_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497650014&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65)

I use ps4 controller on PC> you can play it plugged in OR if you have a bluetooth adapter.

or buy a bluetooth adapter I USE THIS ONE

Simple, if using bluetooth adapter -- plugin to USB. if using Windows 10. go to bluetooth settings. and set your controller on find mode(hold Share button + PS button until light starts flashing fast). connect to PC and done..

You can use DS4 on pc for extra features but it's not needed if you do not wish.

u/blackonred · 2 pointsr/RocketLeague

No need to worry about asking questions here. That's what this sub is for. Judging from your post, I believe you already know everything you need. As you said, turning on 144hz in the display properties is the one big thing you shouldn't miss. Make sure you don't limit your fps in the ingame graphics settings and check if you can get 144 fps ingame. Steam has a built in fps counter you can use for that. Your hardware should handle the game just fine, so I woulnd't worry about finetuning settings, unless there is a problem.

You can still use your PS4 controller on Pc if you didn't know. I believe you don't even need any extra software to run it in steam, though if you do run into some problems I would recomend getting DS4Windows. This software combined with a bluetooth dongle like this one even allows you to use it without any wire connection via bluetooth, though you might get some input lag.

Getting a 144hz monitor was one of the best purchases I did in the past years, so I'm sure you will be happy with yours, too.

u/Bullet_RL · 1 pointr/RocketLeague

Not an expert in laptops but this might do it here.

So [This] (https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Controller-Cable-for-Windows/dp/B01LPNKGGI/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1496753268&sr=1-2&keywords=xbox+one+wired+controller&refinements=p_72%3A1248885011) is just a controller and a standard micro-usb to charge it? Can I just use my micro-usb cord for charging my phone for it? Also, to use the wireless capabilities I have to shill out an additional $25 to buy a wireless dongle?

u/BE_Airwaves · 5 pointsr/RocketLeague

Micro-stuttering and high ping spikes are usually caused by packet loss, which often has to do with shitty WiFi. Some games seem to handle poor connections worse than others. I had a similar experience with Titanfall 2.

I resolved in by plugging in Ethernet. It's not a convenient solution, but since the connection issues are coming from you, there's nothing the devs can really do.

If you don't have an ethernet port in your room, try a Powerline adapter. (Not an affiliate link or anything, just an example of the cheapest one you can get)

You get two adapters. Plug one into a wall outlet near your modem and plug an ethernet cord into it. Then you plug the other one into a wall outlet near your computer/xbox/PS4, and plug an ethernet cable from it into your machine. It basically turns your powerlines into a giant ethernet cable. It's not as fast as direct, but it's a million times better and more reliable than WiFi.

u/FunkyFortuneNone · 4 pointsr/RocketLeague

MAC addresses are tied to the physical adapter being used. A "MAC address ban" could be easily circumvented by buying one of these or even more simply, switching from wifi to ethernet or ethernet to wifi (as it would be a different physical adapter hence different MAC address).

I have 4 total peripherals plugged in via USB, the first two are a Logitech Anywhere MX mouse and solar keyboard using a single USB port.

For controllers I have one of these plugged in via USB:

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=149489501

And one of these Xbox One wired controllers:

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Controller-Cable-Windows/dp/B00O65I2VY/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1494895140

I have no issues with any other games.
