From what I understand, the manga is only nearing the end of the anime at the moment. It is not very far at all. I have not read it myself to confirm though.

The novels are all around better. I actually like reading anime/manga related light novels and have read tons of them. I can say Spice and Wolf is definitely among the better ones in terms of quality. I bought the official Yen Press books. They're translated very well, and they even translate the author's at the end which is nice. You can usually find them on Amazon anywhere between $6 and $11. Amazon's prices fluctuate seemingly randomly and I have no idea why.

If you watched the entire anime, you would have seen novels 1-3, 5, and 2/3 of book 7. To continue the story, you'd want to buy 4, 6, then 8-11 (if you go for the Yen Press official English release). The fan translation has done the whole series though, so if you can't get enough, maybe you'd want to just read it that way. I've read stuff from that group and they do a good job most of the time with all their series. Sometimes the text is a bit weird and occasionally the flow is choppy, but for a free service they do a very good job. I haven't read their Spice and Wolf one, but you could probably ask the other guy who commented.

I would recommend reading just one of the light novels first though before buying or downloading several. Some people just don't like reading or dislike the style of light novels. I personally like them, but they don't have much literary depth which may not appeal to people used to reading higher quality literature. The classification pretty much sums it all up - it's just a LIGHT novel.

Anyways, I'd recommend buying book 4. Support the series, get a nice physical paperback, and see if you like it. If you do, get the rest via Yen Press or fan translation.

Here's an Amazon link to the 4th book

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I've read all Yen Press releases 1-10.

I feel like someone here just wanted to brag about how awesome his French collector's edition is... but sure, I'll bite. :)

I've got two editions. First is the Australian DVD release, which is the full series on 4 dvds. Absolutely nothing special about it, plus the box art is not my favourite - to me it hints at furry fanservice which is not really my liking... Sanity Plus, Madman tend to have awful yellow subs on all their dvds.

Other one is the American blu-ray/dvd combo, It's heaps better, much better art, and the subs are much nicer too. Plus I love it when the BD/DVD are released in the same box. I got it half price than just the Aussie dvd's, second hand but still in the shrink wrap from some dude who was selling a bunch of his anime. Amazon

Yours is still far superior! I'm not aware of any special editions in English.

Do you mean hardback copies? As far as I know, the individual novels only come in paperback. There is the Collector's Edition, which combined first 17 volumes in one hardback monster of a book, but it isn't really recommended for casual reading. If you just mean physical copies, those should be pretty widely available.

And good luck avoiding the spoilers, since they are pretty much on all the promotional material and even on cover of some of the later volumes (vol. 17 especially). I wouldn't worry too much about them though, as the story doesn't rely on spoilers too much.

I don't see a difference between this set^1 and this set^2 from Right Stuf.

OK, that's not true. The second link has 20 minutes that the first link does not, but it's $17 more.

CDJapan's offering^3 might be all Bluray, but at nearly $360, it's just a tad bit expensive.

Funimation's set^4 appears to be the same as Set^1 , but with the same runtime as Set^2 . It is more expensive than Set^1 , but cheaper than Set^2 .

Amazon also has a set,^5 which appears to be the same as Set^2 , but for cheaper than both Set^2 and Set^4. It is also eligible for Prime, if you have that.

There may be other sets out there for different prices. These were just the first few places I thought of to look for it.

I would probably go for Set^4 just because I like that cover art more than the other one.

In order of recommendation based on price/reliability of site/shipping speed/shipping cost:

FIRST: Set^5 - $39.84 + Free 2-day shipping with Prime seems to be the best deal.

SECOND: Set^1 - $32.99 + $3.49 (for me) Economy shipping, it is the cheapest of the offerings. Not sure how fast Economy shipping is, though.

THIRD: Set^4 - $41.24 + shipping. It would cost me $5 for whatever shipping is default. Not a bad price.

FOURTH Set^2 - $48.74 + $3.49 (for me) Economy shipping. More expensive than the others, it does advertise a 650 minute runtime, which is longer than any of the others. Take that how you will, but I'm skeptical.

FIFTH: Set^3 - The most expensive by far at $354.99 + shipping -- shipping can range from $18 to $43, it seems silly to buy this set. I don't see DVD mentioned anywhere, but I'm hesitant to say it's straight Bluray.

Edit According to /u/Stupid_Otaku, Set^5 is completely Bluray. Unfortunately I don't read Japanese, so I cannot verify this information. Though as I said before, I do not see DVD mentioned anywhere on the page, so it is a rather safe bet to assume they are all Bluray.

I'll be straight with you, I inspected it up and down and didn't see any flaws. I'm tight with my cash so spending $90 on anything (even if I'm a huge spice and wolf fan) is a big deal. I was pretty happy with it to say the least. I have the other spice and wolf art book as well (created by the manga author) got that on Amazon (I think) as well and is great. I'll find the link later and send it. I'll show my pics later too.

One thing to note: the current Amazon seller for the link I shared earlier is Anime+ but was weeea2 when I got it. I think they just changed their name since their rating and number of sold items are roughly the same.

Edit:
Here's the book by the manga author. Unfortunately the price has doubled since I got it. I got mine for $67 USD but now it's $120. Same seller though. Again, fantastic condition with that new book smell.

Well to be honest I've only ever bought a single box set for any series before so I don't know the best places to look, but it looks like you can find what you're looking for here on Amazon at a helluva good price. Seems like a steal to me for a blu-ray/DVD combo set.

Mostly I just want to say that Spice and Wolf is one series that you absolutely don't want to overlook the English dub - some of the supporting character VAs aren't so great but Lawrence and Holo are spot-on perfect. And that the cynic in me thinks that no amount of sales is likely to bring us a season 3, but I'd be happy to be wrong about that.

I really hope that the third time's the charm. 😅 This is the best price I've seen for this. Although I wonder if this is for the 2nd edition or the international edition since it is listed as releasing in Feb.

Promo code expires 11:59pm PST November 13th.

u/SoggyCheez · 3 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

I've been watching this for the past week or so wondering how far it's gonna go down. What's interesting is that the price has been continually falling like this for a while and doesn't seem to be approaching any sort of immediate limit. [Price/date chart for the curious]

I actually pulled the trigger way earlier when I saw it was only $66 CAD and decided that the price justified the risk of any blemishes courtesy of US customs and Amazon. Now I'm just waiting to see what the end result of 2000+ miles of shipping ends up being.

u/tecrogue · 1 pointr/SpiceandWolf

Lucky! This is the best I am seeing.

u/iamtelephone · 5 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

I'd keep them all intact. Hopefully by the end of the month we'll have more information.

According to Amazon the second print isn't shipping till November, so you'll have time to request a refund or cancel if you're stuck with the second edition.

If you're extremely lucky and hit the jackpot with 2-3 first editions, then consider selling at cost to those who missed out. I'm sure it will be easy to offload any additional copies.

u/ShippoLover · 1 pointr/SpiceandWolf

It's not on Amazon, yet. Vol. 18 is up, but they won't put up New Theory until Vol. 18 is basically released. The reason I am confident that it'll be November/December is because that's Yen Press' average delay for an active light novel series. Fastest it could be is 4 months, but I doubt that'll happen.

u/I_tried_to_tell_you · 2 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

Here @ Amazon is where I got it, when I bought it two weeks ago my total with shipping was 77$. And yes while my picture cant do it justice, I can vouch that the figure looks like the pics in the product images.

u/Knusperkeks · 3 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

I just received confirmation that the copy I ordered on September 1st is guaranteed to be a numbered edition. If you have questions about yours, you should also include references to the numbered (first print) and unnumbered (second print) on amazon.com, it will make the process much easier.

u/emmeka · 1 pointr/SpiceandWolf

Parchment Vol 1 is actually available for pre-order on Amazon.ca right now. I'm guessing that if you order all of it at once, including the pre-order, you'll still only get charged for shipping once by Amazon (this has happened to me before with pre-ordering books there in the same order as books I'm buying immediately, I don't get charged twice for shipping even though I'd be functionally getting two shipments). If you can afford the over $100 it'll set you back for all of it, I say it's a good idea.

u/Anibeta · 2 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

It was a gift but I believe I found it on Amazon.com

This is it.

u/misuta_kitsune · 8 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

If money is no object I'd say: Go for it, of course. ;)

You will have a hard time finding the Anniversary Collector's Edition at a reasonable price I'm afraid.
It was a limited edition, sold out at all official retailers by now, all you will find are copies sold by resellers at insane prices.

Amazon - New

Amazon - Used

You could try your luck on Ebay but chances aren't high.

Personally,..... if at any time, after collecting all books for Spice & Wolf, Wolf & Parchment and the manga I will probably direct my attention to figures.

u/Wittinator · 2 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

Merci. I got it off here. Pretty solid quality. The colour actually came out quite a bit darker than the preview (I assume that was a printing error or something) but oddly enough, I actually prefer it darker : P

u/TheEnigmaBlade · 2 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

Volume 16 is already out (I have it). Volume 17 comes out April 17th.

Also, it's normally cheaper to pre-order from Amazon rather than buying after the release. Currently you can pre-order for $8.33, but after release it goes up to somewhere between $10–$13.

u/Neko4Lyfe · 1 pointr/SpiceandWolf

Well, found the answer to my question here.
https://www.amazon.com/Spice-Wolf-Vol-12-manga/dp/0316314765

Online it doesn't look like I can find anything further than chapter 35, but then again it isn't an official manga site...

u/Tempest228 · 2 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

For reference for anyone, first print seems to still be on sale at Amazon.ca. Worked out to be 99 for 1-3 day international shipping to the US. Cheaper if you want to go that route.

If anyone wants a backup, Amazon.fr has gotten very little attention compared to de or ca.

u/firedude76 · 2 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

Well there are volumes but unlike comic books they are 180-250~ pages each. You can order them online from here or here I am not sure what area you live in but many book stores that carry anything manga related items could also carry them.

u/initialo · 3 pointsr/SpiceandWolf

No image of the box, or indication you'll get one... so that's a bootleg.

and right now, The book's 70$ canadian on amazon - https://www.amazon.ca/Spice-Anniversary-Collectors-Isuna-Hasekura/dp/0316437220

Update: New Amazon.com listing is up for the second run, but it's still saying not available, and is furthermore not being sold on the international sites at all (page 404s). Very odd developments…
