> Should I want to watch a Netflix Original, there is no legal way for me to download and do that.

reasonably priced.. and there's more Netflix shows available.

> My point with mentioning steam certainly wasn't to diss it. I think it's a fantastic service. I am absolutely fine with the 'one copy at a time' rule, a lot of pieces of software have similar licenses. What I'd like to be able to do is to take all my games and put them in the same library. If I buy something from GOG or Itch.io I get a downloadable file/fileset which I can rename, store and sort however I like. If I buy something on steam, it will almost always require the steam client open and will restrict a lot of features if you aren't online. If I can find a good copy on a tracker I'll almost always use it over the steam version.

Hmm. you make a fair point. Steam makes me want to buy less Origin games even for this reason.. you can add games to the Steam Launcher but then I have the same problem if that game requires another Launcher. It's gotten to the point that I have like 4+ launchers for Blizzard games, Steam games, Origin games, and League of Legends which has its own launcher. LOL

> Reading back on this, a lot of this results from my stubornness/laziness. What I'm trying to address is that there are legitimate uses of torrent trackers (one of which I partake in) and if they want to be taken seriously they should behave in a way that respects its users by being clear about their intentions.

I do the same.. I mean I linked you a DVD above but I probably would download it off a torrent and throw it up on my Plex server, just like you. But once the convenience factor drops and if the DRM is non-existent within media files or limited/non-hassling in my videogames then I tend to just buy it.

The big content producers always said that tapes, computers, etc were gonna be the end of the industry well that's just not true.. they just need to figure out a way to be fair and provide their content for ease of access to the consumer and we'll just buy it.

The cheaper and more accessible things have gotten over the years, the less and less I have had to touch torrent websites because it's more of a hassle now then just buying it in many cases.

> GPD MicroPC: YEEESSS, exactly what I need. The size is almost perfect, has lots of ports, relatively cheaper. Wish it didn't have a giant touchpad and instead had a trackpoint. Too bad it's not out yet.

Same here, and it IS out now:

> In fact the new account gives them MORE information, because now they know where you work.

If my work account gives me an account named madprops717 I may have an issue with how professional of an operation they are. Also, you are assuming that there is a Google account with the person. remember, the purpose of this exercise is to go with alternatives.

>Oh, there are 20 searches all from the same IP for Pokemon related things?

Again, missing the point that this exercise is to show the alternatives. The very first point was to not use google search bot an alternative.

>Did you ever use Google maps for directions to your house? You probably live there. Ad agencies also have cookies that get widely checked all over the web, I can't remember the name but the biggest one claims to be able to effectively see 98% of all consumer page views..

again, missing the point of this. These are all tools. there are other tools out there. Is there a convenience with utilizing these tools. Sure. but again, the whole point of the start of this thread was "Are the alternatives just as convenient? Of course not.".

If I were replacing deck board on my wooden deck I could use a Bow Wrench tool to straighten out any crooked boards or I could use a breaker bar. One tool is more convenient but both will get the job done.

First you'd need to set up a separate SSID specifically for the TV.
Most routers/WiFi APs support having multiple SSIDs set up in parallel nowadays.

Then, you'd need to update your router/AP's firewall rules for that SSID to disallow all incoming and outgoing connections. If your router/AP doesn't support custom firewall rules, you'd need to set another machine as the gateway and then set firewall rules on that machine.

Another easier, but potentially more expensive, option would be to have a second WiFi AP that you associate the TV with, and then just don't plug anything into that AP's WAN port. You can get a cheap WiFi AP for under $30, for example this.

PROTIP: Many cheap Chinese HDMI splitters strip HDCP. Its usually an unadvertised feature, so check the reviews to make sure it works. Here's one I've used before.

There are plenty still there, but they did remove thousands of reviews that gave 1 star and said something along the lines of "Fuck off Hilary". I can see their point - reviews like that aren't massively useful.

As /u/not_perfect_yet pointed out, this is old news and Keurig has reverted to non-DRM after customer backlash. Decent high-level overview here: http://www.wired.com/2015/05/keurig-k-cup-drm/

At the moment this is looking like a victory. Many bad closed technology/DRM'd systems flourish b/c their customers don't know/care enough to fight it (by not buying a product, or choosing an open alternative, for example). The scathing anti-DRM reviews in this K-CUP 2.0 system seem to show, at least when it comes to coffee, people aren't willing to put up with that shit.
