Heh while we're at it let's also remember he was 'Zefram Cochrone of Alpha Centauri' in this episode then First Contact rolled around and they decided he was from Earth. Bah.

There was a great source book from the early 80s illustrated by Rick Sternbach called Star Trek - Spaceflight Chronology that had an entire rundown from late 20th century, the exodus of the Eugenics wars, and the early exploration of humanity before and after warp was invented. It details the meeting between human explorers meeting Cochrane at Alpha Centuari when they arrived. At the time I had no idea that these 'source books' were never canon but the book seemed very legit and well researched.

Needless to say I was a bit grumpy that they changed up the history of the character when First Contact rolled around. Still, despite my willingness to accept that Zephram Cochrane can be from anywhere the Star Trek higher-ups want, I feel like First Contact ultimately undermined the early history of Earth's space exploration; having the Vulcans there two-seconds after Cochrane's flight feels like.... cheating.

Instead of the "early age of space exploration" that I always imagined, it was kickstarted by a more advanced civilization. It'd be like Ferdinand Magellan leaving port for a day only to be shown the larger world by advanced humans with access to air vehicles and GPS.

And yes I know this actually becomes a future plot point on Enterprise (which I haven't seen yet), but still... *grumble grumble*

But I digress. Carry on memeing!

Amazon. It comes from China, made to order. They have set sizes, or you can send them your measurements. I just ordered the medium, as the sizes matched me, and it fits perfectly. 6 days to make, another 2 weeks for shipping.

Yeah I’ve seen them but the one I had in mind wasn’t a novel as such, it was a ‘history book’ covering from Cochrane to Archer (can’t recall if it goes to Kirk). Anyway it was very brief on the war, but I liked the concept :) I’ll see it I can find it.

It's gotten 100% 5 star reviews on Amazon (7 total reviews). It has interesting canonicity. The author stresses that this isn't canon. But he also states how he had unprecedented access through a "Tie-in Media Coordinator" and writer on the show and worked hard to ensure consistency with other canon material. I wouldn't be surprised if show writers use elements from this book in flashbacks in future episodes.
