Welcome! I open all my steels simply they look to good to be covered by j.cards and stickers from the retailers. Also digital codes and the discs are inside and most movies I have steelbooks of I enjoy watching again. Very few of mine are still wrapped.

I put mine in plastic sleeves/bags (very cheap but definitely not most elegant option) I got on amazon but am currently looking in hard plastic options. retro protection seems to have some good ones.

If you buy multiple editions of the same title it’s gonna come down to how much you like the different editions and what your wallet says. I for example thinking about getting another blade runner 2049 just bc of the design and also replaced my kingsman steelbook for a newly released design and sold my previous one.

When you start looking at premium retailers (like manta labs or blu fans) you should check if it’s a WEA (world exclusive art - only available from one retailer) or WWA (world wide art - available from multiple retailers). They usually release 3 or 4 versions that mainly differ by the (Lenticular)slipcover and which format is inside (4K/2D/3D/digital). They also release a “1-click” that’s all versions of one release combined. So most often 3/4 times the same steelbook with 3 different slipcovers (of course there are always exceptions). The best chance to get one of those premium releases is through group buys in various forums (here on reddit, highdefninja, mediapsychos,...).

Here you can find some more“steelbook terms” explained.

Oh and if you like to display your steelbooks, solutions including magnets look really awesome!

Hope that helps! pm if you have any other questions.

Boring anecdote first, answer in bold at the bottom

So I went for an interview earlier this year to work at a film restoration house on a SONY lot (didn't get the job) in Wales, UK.

Myself and the interviewer were having nice chit chat and we got onto the topic of dvd collections and steel-books (because of my niche hobby of it) she perked when I said steel-books because of it's small market and she said she was part of the birth of them way back. naturally I asked her your question here and according to her the very first steel-book manufactured was Terminator 2 DVD

So she never gave me a date of when this was manufactured but I did a little digging and found this one

but can't find a photo of the back that clearly shows the copyright/print date. If someone has it that would be most helpful!

Pan's Labrynth is always a good one. And still very cheap! Also, you can never go wring with an ol' classic. But honsetly, if it were my gift card, I would have to finish off my Batman collection with Batman & Robin I just dont want to spend $40+ out of pocket. But I'm afraid if I dont, I am going to eventually spend over $50 for it! I just cant bring myself to do it! UGH! =)

I've always used the PrePac shelving units. Easy to assemble and easy to adjust the shelves.
You can get them in double width, triple width, quadruple width. I just added a second quadruple width.

Left. Not clean enough, though. Should be the title only. That’s the one I have, I wish it only had the title as well.

If you do end up with this release, apparently the figurine fetches a pretty penny on eBay and Amazon.

u/SteelBookBluRay_com · 3 pointsr/Steelbooks

Available on Amazon Italy. Not quite as cheap as Zavvi, but not many other options, and probably cheaper that eBay profiteers.

Use Google Chrome and it'll auto translate the Italian for you

These are both cheap on Amazon unless you're looking for different versions.

I tried finding it on EBay but couldn't find anyone selling it so I got it from Amazon.de

The Matrix trilogy just had a 4k steel release, titanic steels exist, although they might be a little hard to find

u/bhlombardy · 2 pointsr/Steelbooks

Slight correction: Not a Best-buy exclusive. this is a wide release.

(I would expect the Amazon price to drop, incidentally -- it almost always does.)
