go for the diamond dust bits. I just recently got a set of them and they changed my life. Well maybe not quite like that but they're leaps and bounds better than the arrow head looking ones. I got a set of 5 off Amazon for a little more than $10 and could not be happier with how they performed. Couldn't find any at my local Home Depot. The only issue is that they only go up to half an inch in diameter and the smallest downstem i've found is a tad larger than that. There is a set of bits by the same brand for like 30 bucks and they go from the next size up to like an inch and a half diameter but i'm not sure if i'm ready to upgrade to those just yet. It would make drilling holes for standard down-stems exponentially easier, but I don't do that kind of thing with any regularity. To make the holes bigger I have used a conical grinding or sanding drill bit but make sure you use water to keep everything cool (especially the diamond dust bits) and be patient. I've cracked many a bottle pretty badly due to impatience and improperly cooling the bit.

Oh and the brand is Neiko

How to make a bong out of a Hennessy bottle:

1/5th bottles seem to work best. Get a bottle, wash it out, and set aside.

Go to a smoke shop and ask for a downstem and bowl piece. Ideally the down stem will be about 6” long. You can go longer/shorter depending on the angle your hole is made at.

Once you have your downstem, take a tape measure and measure the OSD of the glass. (Outside diameter. In my case the OSD was a hair over 1/2”, so I used a 5/8” drill bit)

Once you know the OSD of the downstem, you’ll need to go to the hardware store and get a drill bit that is at least 1mm larger than the OSD of your downstem. You need a special carbide (or diamond in some cases, ymmv depending on where you go to get the bit) drill bit that is intended for going through glass. They look a bit like this.

Drill your hole. ALWAYS WET DRILL GLASS. Always. Do it in your sink with the water running, and drill at about half-speed. It will take some time to get through the glass. The angle you hold your drill at will determine where and how the downstem sits in the bottle. About a 45 degree angle on the glass where I put my downstem works well.

Once the hole is made, rise the bottle out very well, and dry the outside. Put your downstem in the hole, and use some putty to make the air seal.

Pack a bowl, and enjoy 🙂

If you have all the pieces I would still recommend that you use Gorilla Epoxy to fix it up. Real easy to fix and safe to smoke out of. Water resistant and won't melt from heat or solvents like acetone so you can clean it too

Is there any particular reason you're using that glass? It looks like its already fractured, and may be jagged around the edges. From the looks of it, you may be better off using a brass bowlpiece, it wouldn't look too bad either. You can usually get them at headshops. That way you would just bore a hole slightly smaller then the bowl and screw it in, no adhesive required. Something like this is what im think of: https://www.amazon.com/TWO-Standard-Pipe-Bowls-BRASS/dp/B005MGU5TI
Anywho, good luck!

SILICONE SEALANT! its an ents best friend. waterproof so u can use it to repair bongs, nontoxic, and it tolerates heat well. so next time youre near a home deopt, pick up some DAP silicone sealant.

Awesome! If it's your first time drilling into glass, practice a couple times on similar bottles first. Also make sure you're using a hole saw like this:

This pipe is fine. Haters are going to hate on anything that isn't glass, when there are a great many cheaper materials that work perfectly for pipe making. I have been using brass and brass pipe screens for years, and have had no problems with it. Brass fittings are lead free, and that's the only legitimate concern. Otherwise, the pipe may get a little hot, but it has never got too hot for me to not be able to touch the pipe. I do have one recommendation, though. Get one of these off of Amazon. It's a brass bowl that will screw into that pipe and then you'll have a real bowl. You will probably need some Brass Pipe Screens for it too, but none of this is expensive, and the brass bowl comes in a set of 2, so you can have two pipes. I've had the same pipe for over a year, and it still works perfectly. And the major advantage that brass has over glass: you can drop it without it shattering.

Agreed, the little "top hat" shaped grommets are great. Might also be able to use gasket maker if nothing else fits. (http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-F81160-Hi-Temp-Silicone-3-Ounce/dp/B0002UEN1A/ref=pd_sim_auto_1)

u/OEMBob · 5 pointsr/StonerEngineering

I usually just use an electrical grommet in the size of the drill bit I used for the hole. If you aren't sure of the size, you can get a multi-pack like this and try some until you get a good fit.

OK, I think the one I have like this is "carbide". I guess they mean tungsten carbide?

I use this Irwin Table Vice and this Remmington Hair Straightener and some parchment paper.

Take a gram or so of frosty nugs, compress them slightly, then place in the center of a folded piece of parchment and clamp the weed/parchment in the center of the ceramic plates. Then place the straightener into the table vice and compress until relatively tight. Now, keep the straightener at lowest heat setting, turn it on, and allow for it to heat until you begin to hear a light sizzling. Turn off the straightener, and compress the vice down as much as possible, allow it to squeeze for 20+ seconds (time and temp can vary between strains). Now remove pressure and see how much you yielded. Use a dab tool or toothpick to collect the rosin, consistency can range from crumble, pull and snap, shatter, or wet terpy oil. If it's too wet to collect, pop it in the freezer for a tiny bit to make it easier. Can also save the spent rosin chips to make edibles, or can be ground up and smoked.

Edit: grammar/spelling

Something similar happened to one of my pieces. I used a 100% silicone sealant. It's waterproof and is safe at temperatures up to 400 F. Just make sure your piece is completely dry before applying it, and make sure you let it cure for at least 24 hours (it gives off fumes while drying, but does not once it's completely cured).

u/ElRedditoRoboto · 2 pointsr/StonerEngineering

The engraver in the pic. I used a diamond bit and went really slow.

u/A_Lonzo_Balling · 3 pointsr/StonerEngineering

Gotcha, some similar cracking happened to me a while back (see my post history; it's El Bongquistador). Sucks, dude, but it'd probably be advisable to start again, and use a diamond-tipped drill bit to make the hole for the downstem. It looks like you're using a 9mm bowl or something on the smaller end, so you could use something like this and rent a drill from Home Depot or something to that effect to make a cleaner cut. If it cracked pretty badly as you suggest, there's likely a risk of microshards being mixed into the water and aerosolized by the bubbling as you pull and it's not worth cheaping out on proper tools at the expense of your lungs.

Sorry for taking so long to respond.

We put the bottle, with the lid off, in a cooking pot big enough that the bottle could lay on its side and the water would be just covering it. We held the drill on an angle we wanted while drilling the hole. I don’t mean to over simplify it, but we went slow and didn’t apply a lot of pressure.

We practiced on a few beer bottles before this one. The flat sides made it way easier than a round bottle.

Cost, $8 for bowl stem, and hangover the night before.

used these drills

And

this stem

  • Diamond Drill Bits - These are the cheap, but use WD-40 or run water over where you're drilling and they'll last longer. Water 100% needed at least when drilling glass.

  • Box full of Grommets - also lists all the ones in it. It fits most down stems

  • Silicone Sealant - This is what I use as glue. It's industrial grade, and FDA approved as food grade within the temperature range of -70 to +400 degrees. Takes awhile to cure, is a little sloppy and stinky at first, but worth it. Requires a caulk gun.

  • Cheap Downstem/Slide - I got this because it's good for $5 and comes with some rubber. Mine shipped broken, but I made it work. Really big hole so you may need a screen, and it also stays perpendicular to the surface you put it on, no angling it. Don't recommend for beer bottles unless you want to hit it at an angle.
