1) Fight sticks. you do not need a fight stick to play street fighter nor do you need one to be good players like SonicFox and Luffy play on playstation controllers, theres no inherent advantage besides a few input techniques and in some cases a stick can give the game a rewarding feel or the game to "click in your head"
Maxalillion goes into this quite in depth i recommend you watch his video on the mater to further your opinion on the matter.

I've been recomending Fightsticks for alot for people on reddit when these threads come up and with friends in person and i have to say due to feed back though you may not want to spend upwards $200-$300 on a stick but sticks in this range particularly the Hori mini4 and Mad catz alpha though built well for beginners will be uncomfortabel to use or leave you longing for more. i would only recommend those sticks if you want you kids to play with you and not on your big daddy stick or you are deathly on the edge or very skeptikal on buying a stick. if you are trying to be a little serious and maybe want to attend arcades it is better to get a higher end stick as they last longer, preform a little better and will be a bit comfortable to use. i personally recommend the Hori Rap4 Kai as it is very high quality and the cheapest one the mad catz TES+( is just as good but more expensive (its the same price right now thats a steal!) And the best of both worlds is the sony venom around 86 us with the conversion and bought on the amazon.uk site very good stick and is easy to mod when you are ready. these sticks are worth the cash if you are serious. Think this through as geting an arcade stick will slightly complicate the learning process of learning a new fighting game especially coming from a game quite different like smash brothers. i personally recommend going to your locals area and see if they have a SFV scene and ask some of the guys there to let you try out their stick or teach you some stuff heres a video on what you will actually be probably using a stick

2)Since you tell me you have come from smash you know fighting games. and you know they are hard to learn and hard to "git gud" so dont be afraid to lose, the best winners are the ones who learn from their loses. the first hurdle is understanding the game you are playing then the technical parts should slowly be introduced.

This is a good start

Vesper arcade (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql2OZoRrfos&list=PLIhWuF_5aE1_xHpDsJD1U2OgU4ZuAZrxp)

Gootecks has a very good series aswell i recomend you watch this second (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AomsfS_8cT8&list=PL13KoUNKKsK2HQ_nWMR9wUqtwrA8k317I)

As for picking your main for a character you want to play. find someone who is fun and who you like regardless of strength. The Capcom character guides are a good place to see what a characters capable of and a little bit about their strengths and weaknesses for a better under standing (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLs4LjNCY15zMKfPmf5M5_Ow9en17ur3BR) a youtuber under the name TrueUnderDogGaming has a similar line of videos (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHXrezoc98F7jiQIPgeA9655yxUhRPI4x)

you said you like rashid SF has some insightful videos though they are for the micro complexities for the game they are short and helpful to understanding the game, did i mention he loves rashid hes also not a super duper good player so you will have an easy time relating and understanding him (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3f9nd40434_EJ-CkvC9pmzD6s0exYuaD)

on the sub reddit we also have pages dedicated to characters i recommend you check them out (https://www.reddit.com/r/StreetFighter/wiki/index)

like i said play who you want, but at the early stages there are soe chaaracters that are difficult to use, will impeed progress with complicated mechanics and play styles and worst case senario bad habits. if i were you i would consider giving THIS a glance before you make any final decisions

Another good resource to learn the game and im surprised it isnt praised and recommended to beginners is the street fighter V Collectors edition Guide book. it explains street fighter on a very basic level of understanding, explains some very general and important fighting game topics and lingo such as footsies and meaties. it also provides you with Frame data something very important later on in learning street fighter. i 10/10 recommend wish i had something like this when i started 2 years ago you can buy it at amazon.com

And the last place for help is our own sub reddit! you have any questions please come here everyone will help you out!

All the lingo, terminology and explanations so you can talk the talk on the reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/stReetfighter/wiki/iv/glossary

So I'm not sure why, but the Soul Calibur stick is 93 bucks right now. It's a pretty good stick.

As far as I know, it's completely identical to this stick. I've got this one and it's pretty good. Hori's Hayabusa stuff isn't generally the first choice, but it's definitely good enough.

For the record, you can change the artwork if you really want to. It's a bit time consuming, but an easy DIY project. This is mine. The hardest part is really just removing the old artwork as it's bonded to the metal. After that it's pretty basic.

u/callmeSMP · 4 pointsr/StreetFighter

That is really cool!

The community here is awesome so new players should feel welcome but I really wish the game was in a better state to receive the influx of people unfamilar with SFV. Can you imagine what it's like for someone new to see this sub, consider buying the game and then see the reviews here and here.

I bought a used PS3 TE1 on craiglists. Great condition for $90. Owner got SFV on the PC but couldn't get it to work. Still got it anyways and did some research. From what I found out it seems that the ps3 te1 hasn't been working on the pc since the sfiv days for many. It has to do with the UHCI USB 1.1 that many newer motherboards don't have. Only option for many is a hardware workaround which is a usb pci card. I got this one http://www.amazon.com/Syba-Port-Card-Components-SD-VIA-5U/dp/B000JFJZGG?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00. It's been working fine since with joy2key. Hope that helps.

Edit: If you are going to get any USB pci cards make sure it's of the VIA chipset. Those are the ones that the ps3 te1 will work with.

I'm currently working through supplements (on hold right now until Season 2 is official) which will likely be a separate book which will work like an index to the original source material.

Earnestly, I am honored that you want to support the work. However, Season 2 starts tomorrow and I will likely need to make some edits as a "Second Edition". In this case, I will likely retain both editions for sale and drop the price on the first edition if the information changes enough. I'll try and make those changes as quickly as possible once Season 2 drops.

I'm assuming you have a TE 1 stick that was released in 2009? (http://www.amazon.com/Fighter-FightStick-Tournament-Edition-Playstation-3/dp/B001M25AY6) I used to have this problem until I bought a USB card and attached it to my computer

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IPXOWU?psc=1 (This card can read USB 1.1 - 3.0)

I think the stick is a USB 1.0, and my computer doesn't read USBs lower than 3.0, and cards like these did the job!

Good luck man!

Quick info:

The deluxe edition costs $77 and will include:

  • It's (sic) own unique matte cover art.

  • A Ribbon bookmark.

  • Your book will fit effortlessly into glossy, die-cut slipcase designed to resemble your favorite arcade game.

  • A high quality folded sleeve will contain:
  • 3 Street Fighter Art Prints (details to follow)

  • 1 Papercraft folded model (details to follow)

A non-deluxe edition will cost $37.35 and is due on the 7th of November. Its description says:

"Undisputed Street Fighter™ features in-depth interviews and exclusive, behind-the-scenes looks into the making of the Street Fighter games, and the iconic art, design, and imagery from across the Street Fighter universe."

    edit: stuff.

I have this capture card, this one captures at 720p 60fps, which is all you can do with the bitrate cap for Twitch partners (3500 kbps).
If you want 1080p 60fps this one will do you good, but it's an external capture card.
I highly recommend an internal capture card, the quality is superior to an external equivalent and more importantly, there's no delay compared to an external capture card (external capture cards take much longer to encode, which causes mic audio to be desynced with capture video/audio and syncing them is a pain).

Hey man, awesome work! Would you be willing to make a Balrog color 1 for this stick?

u/Banned_From_HLTV · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

The best and cheapest solution is a Dualshock 4 controller, give it a try i personally went from fightsticks back to controllers. If you really wanna get into fightsticks then choose one of these:

  1. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06WWMFL56/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2Y60EJ5VI534L

  2. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Obsidian-Joystick-PlayStation-Fighting-Officially/dp/B01N9JMYPX/ref=pd_cp_63_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9ACNS7WRHAX9BGRQ3384

  3. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-PlayStation-Licensed-8-Button-Arcade/dp/B00NHDSINS/ref=pd_cp_63_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9ACNS7WRHAX9BGRQ3384 default buttons and joystick suck so i suggest replacing them with sanwa or seimitsu ( will cost you an extra 35 euros from ebay )

I might buy this one then, the reviews look good for it.
I don't know if my HP thing is any good or not though, it doesn't have it listed. Probably because it's not a gaming monitor.

Here's the original from that tweet:https://www.amazon.com/Street-Fighter-V-PlayStation-4-Standard/dp/B00QXJFE08

quick repost it and grab that karma! I'm not going to do it!

My buddy has this one and won't shut up about how great it is.

They also have one for xbox

u/gommerthus · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

hello. I will be getting SF V for PC and based on what you're saying, I should not buy this stick, because it's for PS3:

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0166QDR5G/ref=s9_wsim_gw_p63_d3_i1?ie=UTF8&colid=3GSWPD2TMK5D2&coliid=I1WPN44RUIKLR9&pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=01NRGWKZ84MW9FAPH824&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2055621862&pf_rd_i=desktop

However there is one comment who seems to suggest that this stick works PC "without the need of motionjoy, better ds3, or any other driver software." However from reading the comments, I'm afraid now. Any thoughts? And what stick that's similar to this one which works reliably for SF V on PC?

u/00Nothing · 2 pointsr/StreetFighter

Second on the Fighting Commander! If you're playing on PC, I recommend the PS4 one over the XBone one. The XBone controller is technically more customizable, but it's also a bigger pain, and the PS4 commander will just do what you need. It's also a great pad for emulators, platformers, and anything else that just needs a d-pad and some face buttons.

I never had any lag on SFIV btw. That's why I'm positive this is a SFV thing and has nothing to do with the stick itself.

u/Denkka_ · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

Why you think fightstick is going to make you better? I went through the same thing when i was silver and it didn't make a difference at all. Wasted 2 months until i felt comfortable with it and then switched to Dualshock 4 witch im using till today.

Anyway i would suggest this https://www.amazon.com/Obsidian-Joystick-PlayStation-Fighting-Officially-4/dp/B01N9JMYPX

u/Fadeout4 · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

The image is mirrored. Notice how in the keyboard, the arrow keys are on the left side? Notice how Gief's face is reversed on the cover of the book compared to the real thing?

u/EnsErmac · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

You can install this and it will work if you plug it into the card.

u/bahnptb · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

Oh no, no. I meant this: https://www.amazon.com/Street-Fighter-V-Collectors-PlayStation-4/dp/B014PCUKJO?th=1

If you were talking about the same thing, I've never heard it referred to as the deluxe edition though. :)

u/bohplayer · 7 pointsr/StreetFighter

Well uh, I upvoted because otherwise you won't stay on the first page. Have you tried using the "motioninjoy" driver? (google it)

Worst case scenario if the board is malfunctioning you'll have to spend 10 bucks to buy something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Reyann-Arcade-Encoder-Joystick-Fighting/dp/B00UUROWWK

u/VixisTyro · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

For some stupid reasons, only Amazon UK has physical PC copies.

AmazonUK SFV PC

u/resident_hater · 5 pointsr/StreetFighter

Who the fuck would spend $18 for a bunch of costumes when the entire game literally costs the same amount? Jesus Christ, these people...

u/wingmasterjr · 1 pointr/StreetFighter

I have actually done this and i will say it is not worth the effort. I modded a mayflash
with sanwa OBSF-30-w buttons and a sanwa JLF stick.

The major mistake I made was going with a shitty chinese board so multiple button presses would not register all the time. Plus I was having problems with input lag as well on that board.

Overall i spent about $100 on everything (including a soldering iron) and its not very useful until I replace the board so it will probably go up to 140-150 overall and at that price I could have just bought a nice hori :/

EDIT: But I have a pretty badass sticker job on it http://i.imgur.com/b3b1KiS.jpg
