This is just my honest opinion, but we didn't have any save states back in the day (the 80's & 90's).Playing a game through the beginning to end and mastering them was what made gaming fun..... for me. If your looking for the exact experience, not having save states wont even be a big deal.
I started off with the retropie not knowing any details as well. Google and YouTube tutorials was what help me the most. And after a while I was able to notice the difference and just got the Super Analouge Nt. If your interested in doing the retropie I would recommend this kit here. Believe me this intent provided me with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes....
I’m going to send them an email to see what they say. I’ll report back if it’s helpful. I’m using the SN30. I think it’s the adapter though. I would think I’d have issues with all the controllers, but haven’t tested.

I don't think anyone has told you you need a microSD for the SuperNt. You're thinking of the SD2SNES Pro.
Here you go. Not only is that plenty large enough, it's a microSD that comes with a full-size adapter. It will work for either firmware updates for the SuperNt or for the SD2SNES Pro. If you're buying both, buy two cards.

You don't use any chemical product which can damage the plastic, sometimes...
use this as it means you can use everything supplied by analogue and not have to worry about buying dodgy chinese crap that may fail or using adapters designed for other devices.
