Figured my routine might be useful to people looking at this kind of thing:

For the interior I highly, highly recommend using Nextzett Cockpit Premium. I ordered like 23 different interior products off of Amazon and it was the only one I liked for a true matte look inside that didn’t smell weird. I use it on everything except the screen, and it really does a great job of cleaning without leaving behind shine or residue.

I use a Sunjoe pressure washer for the outside, and a foam cannon. I use Adams Ultra Foam on my wife’s M3, and on mine I use CarPro Reset (I have Xpel Stealth). I use the two bucket method after foaming the car down. The pressure washer is super easy to use and was a great investment.

I dry with an Adams Air Cannon and it’s amazing if you are washing your car in your garage or driveway. No messing with towels or possible scratches. It’s extremely powerful, I was pretty surprised. Plus the air is warm and filtered.

For wheels I use Griots Heavy Duty Wheel cleaner, with a Chemical Guys brush. I’ve never been a “clean your wheels” kind of guy before my Tesla, but it’s really easy to do.

For interior scent, I have tried countless products. It’s actually almost sad how many car scent products I have tried (not a smoker, just like a good smelling car). The only one that I would recommend is Ozium in the can, not aerosol. It has a light citrus smell that gets tons of compliments like “your car always smells so clean and fresh, not fake or like cologne”. The only other close contender is Dr Beasleys Leather, closely followed by their New Car Scent. It’s actually the only New Car scent I can stand. I settled on Ozium because it’s set and forget. I keep a small can in the front of my car, and a big can in the trunk.

I hate waterless washing for the most part (saving the planet aside) just because it’s never really as effective as a full wash without ten times the work. ONR is a good product though, and easy to use.

Best thing I ever did on both of our M3s is getting a professional ceramic coating put on. Washing is about ten times as easy as it was before, and drying is about 20x. Definitely recommend it, on both a wrapped or unwrapped car.

I've never regretted it for a second. I have two kids (1 and 4) I wasn't sure if the white dash would be broght/ distracting but it's not at all and I love it so much. Also EVERYONE thinks it's awesome. Plus it cleans very very well.

I use chemical guys CarGuys Super Cleaner - Effective All Purpose Cleaner - Best for Leather Vinyl Carpet Upholstery Plastic Rubber and Much More! - 18 oz Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XB18BF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-yEZDbPHFR6W5

Works like a magic. I just spray on microfiber and whip down a few times a month. KEEP THE WHITE😎

Don’t buy the pucks, make ‘em, real easy. Takes about 10mins, only needs a screws/screwdriver. They fit perfectly.

(4 Pack) Rubber Screw On Bumpers - Shed Doors, Sliding Door & Cabinets

A&R Sports Ice Hockey Practice Puck, Black - 4 Pack

Costco rotation and winter tire exchanges are super cheap, and they have the right lift gear, used to Tesla’s etc.

Try out something like meguiar's clay bar or some such. Also, for lubricant, their quick detailer or something like Adam's detail spray I have noted below while claying works best for me. Also, when claying, I have found that after making a couple passes, if the clay has dirt in it, is discolored, or something similar, I use a hand slicer like below to remove the contaminants quickly.

I was in the same boat. Here were my considerations...

  • Fast write-speeds: to capture continuous video write to the disk
  • Large Capacity and inexpensive stick: fewer read/write per sector makes it more reliable/longer lasting
  • Large and expensive SSD)
  • Endurance/commercial type for more read/write cycles and hotter/colder temps
  • Small form factor: not so big/rigid to avoid possibility of breaking while in tight area
  • WiFi capability: to get the data on/off without physical transfer

and what i ended up deciding...

Based on the feedback so far, I'm leaning toward the Sandisk Ultra Fit.

In order of importance, my decision factors...

  • The small form factor will reduce the chance of me hitting it accidentally and possibly breaking the port.

  • It is fairly cheap at $19 for 64GB version. This allows me to store at least 1 day of video at least 2000 miles of driving (over a month of driving) and reduce the number of re-writes.

  • The write-speed is not a factor, but USB 3.0 should be more future proof if Tesla changes the system, or if i re-purpose the drive to another task. If you want the older version with 2.0, it is even less expensive.

  • Endurance doesn't seem to be a popular concern, so ignoring it for now. I am slightly concerned with operating temperature [32°F to 113°F (0°C to 45°C)] and storage temp [14°F to 158°F (-10°C to 70°C)], but we'll see how it goes this winter. Those more further north than me can report in if they have success or failure.

  • I also ignored the WiFi capability because if i need to unplug the device, there is no reason to use it. I'm still curious if SD based cards like the Toshiba Flash Air W-04 would have a different behavior. I bought one for my digital camera, so i'll give it a try in the Tesla too. The cost is significantly higher, but if i can access dash cam videos from my cell phone and before getting home and without unplugging, that would be a big plus. (also need to find the right SD to USB adapter.)

Thanks for helping me think it out.

edit, changed recording time to distance driven, as it records while moving, not 24/7

Now that I think about it OP, why not just patch it yourself? Patch kits are super cheap, and it looks like you have the tire off anyway? Tons of Youtube videos on how to do this, and it would only take you probably 15 mins? Worth a shot maybe?

Using a SanDisk High Endurance 128GB card and this adapter.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XTQZS4F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_v7MPDbT1QWD0R

It’s really the best option, all other card readers are huge and bulky

u/LewdLittleLoli · 2 pointsr/TeslaLounge

Ah dude nice. I’m subscribed. I work at UPS loading trailers, and your autopilot videos are easy to listen to with my headphones in while working.

I have no Tesla, so I’d have to try on my leaf lol. I’ve also seen full moon hubcaps . These as well most people would think are ugly, but could possibly give just a bit more efficiency to the aerodynamics of the car

And this: https://shop.tesla.com/product/corded-mobile-connector

In this repurposed Dewalt toolbox: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M3SP97Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_R3B0DbVARKYQT

Using scraps of this Fastcap Kaizen Foam 57mm (2-1/4") Black from another project: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007J2JJYK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_TaC0Db2YE2QW8

Hope this helps. You could use other foam. This is just what I had on hand from another project.

Here’s what I have:

Memory card:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B984HJ5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Memory card reader:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NPCTWYC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apip_JwviwpBgAuzmH

Format the memory card as FAT32 (you will need to search google how to do this on a large storage device - the built-in Windows option won’t do it) and put a single folder in it called “TeslaCam” (without quotes) and that’s it for setup. Plug the memory card into the reader and plug it into one of the front USB ports in the car, and then you should be good to go. Make sure you’ve got a little camera icon at the top right corner of the Model 3’s screen that indicates recording.

Do you care about the mirrors? The chrome delete is actually not that hard to do yourself, if you skip the mirrors.

I did a chrome delete with the kit from Amazon and bought carbon fiber mirror caps from RPMTesla and called it a day. <$200

2x [3M Satin Black 5ftx1ft] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008OIQEG4/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) $30

1x [Model 3 Gen 2 Carbon Fiber Mirror caps] (https://www.rpmtesla.com/products/model-3-gen-2-carbon-fiber-mirror-caps-129-w-20-off) $139

The same thing happened to me, USB drives aren't meant for writing/rewriting video. You need to get a Samsung PRO Endurance 128GB Micro SDXC Card, it's made for dashcam's and bodycams. I bought mine with a Geekgo adapter so I can watch the sentry videos on my iPhone 😎

The “fix” will likely involve a software solution to dry off the evaporator after you get out of the car on a trip. Some people will turn off the AC and let the fan blow for the last few miles, but I would rather having AC the entire drive.

I have 7 and 2 yo daughters. The 2 yo is in a car seat and the 7 yo in a booster seat. I bought the kick mats and car seat protector for both seats. Bought these for my wife’s Hyundai Ioniq and my Model 3. The seat protectors help keep the car seat from making indentions in the seats.

I use something like this although I don't remember the exact brand and honestly I haven't taken the car seat off to check the condition of the seats.

Some places say it makes the car seat less safe, but I'm not sure how that's possible, it's still anchored firmly.

I found the Hot Wheels White Model 3 at Target a couple months ago.

I wish I could find some more to give out to kids at this year's Drive Electric Week event.

u/Starman2018 · 1 pointr/TeslaLounge

I bought this pump: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036E9VB6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Combined with this plug kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ET525K/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't think the Tesla kit is worth it and I've heard the compound it sprays into the tire is ironically ineffective since Tesla tires have acoustic foam in them.

How to do it

The product: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007PHD0S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BXWxDbZHY1GHT

I’m going to do this next week, and I bought 2 filters from the Service Center today to make sure I keep this as freshly cleaned as possible. So take your time to do it right.

On all surfaces and a nonammonia glass cleaner on the interior class.

I think what you want to look for is an electric cooler. I think there should be one the right size.

So far, every time I remove the car seats I haven’t seen any obvious evidence of damage. Though this isn’t often and they pretty much have been installed for most of my year of ownership.

That said, I don’t look to hard for damage and I’ve kind of resigned myself that this is a car that’s going to get wear and tear, not a garage queen.

YMMV.
