And Trump is one of the most successful people alive today. I don't know about Erdogan... probably him too to a lesser degree. Neither of their policy or approach appeals to me but at least I keep my sanity...

But why do you just name call people you disagree with? Because there's a thing called populism. You may be surprised to hear that most leaders actually aren't as stupid as you think (hence why they're in power). And that appealing to a broad enough audience to gain legitimacy requires delving into a lot of difference spheres of thought. I mean I guess the whole "everybody in their teens and twenties thinks they know it all" is actually true. I don't hear any older folks calling these obviously intelligent and successful people stupid.

Edit: My argument goes hand in hand with what this book tell readers: https://www.amazon.ca/Why-Leaders-Lie-International-Politics/dp/0199975450 so everybody who disagrees with me is actually disagreeing with what many experts and analysts in geopolitics and foreign relations know as a fact. :)))

I recommend Guenter Lewy’s The Armenian Massacres in Ottoman Turkey: A Disputed Genocide.

C-SPAN Book Discussion

Interview

Guenter Lewy is a Holocaust survivor and Professor Emeritus of Political Science. He successfully sued the Southern Poverty Law Center after an Armenian employee convinced an editor to write an article claiming Lewy was “part of a network of persons, financed by the Turkish government, to promote the denial of the Armenian Genocide.” In settlement, the SPLC entirely retracted their claims and apologized.

One should read the Mango or Kinross biographies but I would supplement either of those with this - Ataturk: An Intellectual Biography by Hanioglu

u/nistrorache · 2 pointsr/Turkey

i'd recommend this. orhan pamuk is also highly influenced from this guy.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Turkey

Ataturk: an intellectual biography.

Most objective book out there. Though it does not distinguish enough between Kemal Ataturk and other CUP figures such as Talat and Enver Pasha. Gazi Mustafa Kemal had them exiled after WWI, so there must have been some extreme disagreements.

Jurisprudence / case law precedents* on genocide not only allows but actually normalise intent inferred/proven by circumstantial evidence and I supplied all the intent inference precedents of the Rwandan one above which more than fulfil the Armenian Genocide case. And this is my last reply to you.

The classic book on the subject is [The Emergence of Modern Turkey] (http://www.amazon.com/Emergence-Modern-Studies-Eastern-History/dp/0195134605/) by Bernard Lewis. The down side is that it's now showing its age (it was first published in 1951). A book to supplement it would be [Turkey: A Modern History] (http://www.amazon.com/Turkey-History-Erik-J-Zurcher/dp/1860649580/) by Erik Zurcher.

Sırf SSD'li diye kıytırık bilgisayarları 1.5-2 katına satıyor hipneler.

>Exactly. Europeans are not really fond of us and they don’t want to be singled out about their history full of genocides, massacres and rapings.

Nobody is denying that thousands of Armenians have died, BUT not with the intention of massacring them. Most of them died due to starving and sickness. There were also some massacres in some villages, but has nothing to do with the government. The government never tried to massacre anybody. The reason for this all was caused by the Armenians by themselves, cause during the World War I they allied with the Russians and started invading villages, such as the city of Van. All of this forced the government to relocate them, and not all of them, those living in the East.

If you don't believe what I say, or any Turk say, please then believe scientists/historians.

The most important expert in Middle East history from Princeton Bernard Lewis. Or from Oxford Norman Stone. Look up Justin McCarthy's lectures on Youtube, who shows you it. There are multiple other professors from famous universities (and I am not naming one Turkish source). Read Guenter Lewy's book who himself is a Jew. And someone posted here this link a while ago. Here you can read proofs from a professional french historian:

THIS

Source OP is ridiculing is the author’s personal website where just he republished statistics from this book online.

If OP even bothered to scroll to the bottom of the page to read the author’s acknowledgements he’d find “In particular I want to thank [...] Guenter Lewy, Heath Lowry”. The guy did his research and incorporated information from the same scholars that are constantly cited in the Turkish government’s official position.

The numbers could still be off, but that’s always the case, even for the best historians. Unless you have a specific argument about why his numbers are off then don’t criticize the source.

This is one of the dumbest posts I’ve seen on this topic. It boils down to OP saying the web design sucks so it’s not a legitimate source without actually doing the most basic work to investigate what the source actually is.

You said the American government doesn’t recognize its past with genocide or slavery. I have told you multiple times it does. Not once have I compared the Turkish operation as a slaughter against Kurds. I have brought to attention the other crimes you have committed against them. The Armenians most definitely had a genocide committed against them.

Once again, does the Turkish school system teach its history with Genocide like the American one does. The answer is no because you continue to ignore that question.

THE AMERICAN SCHOOL SYSTEM IS A GOVERNMENT SYSTEM. IF THEY RECOGNIZE ATROCITIES SO DOES THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT. AMERICANS COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THIS YOU DO NOT.

The majority of Native Americans did die from European diseases. Same with almost all natives across the Americas. The genocides we've committed are perfectly expressed in this textbooks. Here's even a required reading I had in a class detailing only a perspective from Native Americans.

Once again, does the Turkish government do anything similar. We only talk about the Tulsa race riots in 1921. Do you mention the Turkish Army slaughtering 11,000 Kurdish citizens during the Dersim rebellion. Does it mention the genocide against the Armenians. I literally have a close friend whos grandmother was killed during the Genocide. He knows exactly who killed his Grandmother.

u/AltaEgoNerd · 1 pointr/Turkey

Armenians did wage a war of independence against the Turks. These were obviously not the Armenians that were massacred.

Armenians in Anatolia have been harassed and assaulted and massacred before the Genocide of 1915. Sultan Abdul Hamid comes immediately to mind.

If you think that discussing Armenian independence is a reason to commit murder against Armenians, and you do so, then defense of one's self is only natural against such an atrocity. You would never blame a Turk for protecting oneself, would you?

The Genocide was perpetrated on the civilians of Eastern Anatolia. Not just villages that bordered Russia. We are talking about huge cities east of Ankara decimated to once and for all end the question of Armenian independence.

Jew in WWII were blamed for many, many things: Corrupting the government and people, controlling the flow of money, diluting the pureness of the German people. They were looked upon as sub-human and many experiments were done upon them to try and prove this.

As an aside, there is an excellent book by Vahakn Dadrian titled German Responsibility in the Armenian Genocide. After reading his first book The History of the Armenian Genocide, this would be a good follow-up read.

Also, there were many Jews from around the world that joined the various armies against the Axis powers specifically so that they could go and fight (and kill) Nazis.

There was the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. No German has ever blamed the Jews for trying to resist slaughter. Similarly, no Turk should ever confuse an Armenian defending him or herself against Turkish prejudice and violence.
