I completely agree with most people in this thread. Get a small Laptop, not just screen size wise, but also pay attention to the actually weight. You will have to carry the laptop around probably most of the day, so pick something with good battery life (possibly with a removable power brick - as in have a backup power brick, that way you dont have to take the cable with you all the time).
I actually had a 15" gaming laptop that I carried around everywhere. It was big, heavy and completely unpractical. I realized pretty fast I wasn't gaming on it, just doing presentations, taking notes, watching movies and shows. I sold my big laptop and went for a really small entry-level Asus Ultrabook with a 13" screen and low weight/size form-factor. I decided between these 3:
[Asus Vivobook X202 Laptop] (http://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-X202E-DH31T-11-6-Inch-Touch-Laptop/dp/B009F1I1C4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371391929&sr=8-1&keywords=vivobook)
[Asus Vivobook S400 Ultrabook] (http://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-S400CA-DH51T-14-Inch-Touch-Ultrabook/dp/B009F1JL5A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1371391929&sr=8-2&keywords=vivobook)
[Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook] (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Series-NP530U4C-A01US-14-Inch-Ultrabook/dp/B0082PZ0LO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371391951&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+ultrabook+series+5)
I eventually went with the Vivobook S400. I had the Samsung S5 and the first unit was broken on delivery, the second developed pixel errors within a month of using it. I stuck with the Asus. It has a removable power brick and doesn't have too much bloatware on it. I like it very much for my use. But the monitor problems I had with the Samsung could be coincidence. The Asus has a very glossy monitor, if you aren't into that the Samsung should be better.
Good luck and alot of fun at USC mate.
$25 set here: https://www.amazon.com/Cycle-Torch-Rechargeable-Light-Commuter/dp/B00XJXP6V8/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_468_tr_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=X9RX9ESYAV112Q2V38NS
Haven't used this one personally but it has great reviews, USB charging, and $25 is pretty cheap for a starter front/rear light.
This guy here, is in my opinion the greatest President USC has ever had. He turned this University into what it is today.
I highly recommend new and old Trojans alike read his book to understand his style of leadership:
http://www.amazon.com/Contrarians-Guide-Leadership-Steven-Sample/dp/0787967076
"Under his stewardship, USC rose from 51st to 26th in U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of U.S. universities, and the number of its freshman applicants tripled. The university also became more selective, with acceptance rates dropping from 70% to 24%."
If you’re using it for personal stuff and not distributing the recordings, you’ll be fine. The voice memo app on your Mac or iPhone will work. Evernote also has a built in recorder so you can also take notes and insert time stamps in the text.
These also might be useful https://www.amazon.com/Tascam-Stereo-Portable-Digital-Recorder/dp/B004OU2IQG. I have a few of these that I use for professional work and it’s great for capturing crystal clear room audio, just place it as close to the source of audio as possible.
This is an accurate description. If you have a lot of clothes, I would suggest buying one of these closet doublers to make more space.
You also get a spacious desk that has a lot of shelving to hold a bunch of your stuff. There's also one dresser that, if memory serves me right, has four drawers. The bed, desk, and closet are pretty much wall to wall. It's a small but manageable space. Make use of the space underneath your bed and you should be fine.
Can try something like this if you feel up to it - https://www.amazon.com/Drinking-Water-Test-Kit-Pesticide/dp/B01DMF8SH6
