A couple things.

  1. 1.1 ohms is a little on the low side for the Vamo. Mine (V2) wouldn't even have fired it, but things have likely changed since then. So, the first thing you should do is rebuild the coil, and shoot for the ~1.6 ohms range.

  2. The airflow on those KFL+ clones is strange. While you're in there rebuilding, take the whole thing apart and look at how it's put together. What you'll notice is that the airflow is achieved via a small hole drilled into the positive pin, which runs down the length of that bolt until it meets up with the air inlet on the side of the base. There, it has a small hole cross-drilled through the bolt. (The airflow kinda makes a 'T' inside the middle of the positive pin/bolt.) Herein lies one of the things that sets the clones apart from the real deal. In the clone, that cross-drilled part has to match up with the air inlet hole exactly, otherwise it will close off, no matter how open the airflow control screw is. (Think of it like a ball valve, only functioning at full capacity when the two pathways match up perfectly.) The problem is that the rotation of that positive pin will be determined by where it stops screwing into the positive block up on the build deck. It has to be nice and tight, otherwise your build surface will wobble and rotate, and fuck up your build.

So, what to do? The easiest fix, though impermanent and none too graceful, is to tighten it up as much as it needs and build on it. Once you've got a good, solid coil installed, then you start to loosen up the positive pin. Only a teeny tiny little bit at a time, and you'll need to be testing the airflow changes somehow, while also making sure to keep an eye on your coil, ensure it doesn't get all fuckered in the process. It's simple, but inconvenient, as you'll likely have to re-do everything every time you need a rebuild. You may also be able to tighten it a little further and thereby align the airflow paths properly, but it's pretty unlikely. Worth a try, just keep in mind that if you severely overtighten the post, you'll likely snap something and render the whole thing useless. If you go this route, use caution.

The other option you have is a bit more elegant, noticeably more permanent, and possibly significantly more of a challenge. You can widen the opening of the cross-drilled section on the positive pin. Don't widen the hole itself, as there's not a whole lot of spare material there, and you'll likely just break the bolt, which will render the tank useless unless you can find a replacement (I'm sure they exist, but I don't know where). No, what you'll want to do is grind away small amounts of material from the front and back of the hole, thereby opening up a much wider range of relational angles that will allow a less-restricted flow of air. I would definitely recommend a Dremel (or similar) with some sort of a conical, fine-grit, metal-grinding attachment. Maybe like this one

What about how the SvoeMesto people solved this issue? Well, the positive pins are pretty much identical between the clone and genuine. But the way the airflow was machined is not. Inside the base, where the positive pin's air inlet hole meets the air inlet hole in the base of the tank, they've machined away a little area, like the outer race in a ball bearing, to allow unrestricted airflow, no matter where the holes end up in relationship to each other.

I hope this helps you figure out what's going on. If all else fails, I can attest to the wonderfulness of the real ones. They're unmatched in vape quality, for that type of vaping.

The mods with the bottoms that push up are referred to as tube mods. Those mods are mechanical mods, which are extremely dangerous for beginners. At the very least, if you don't know what you are doing then you can ruin the mod. If you're really unlucky, a mech mod could literally blow up in your face. When you move up to a mech mod, you really need to know what you are doing. I know that's not the answer that you want, but if you're interested in learning more about starting out with mech mods I would visit /r/electronic_cigarette.

If you have vaped before, and seemingly on something with some power, then I would recommend a regulated box mod with decent power. The sigelei 150w and 150w TC boxes are very nice, and the latter will allow for some play later on with the temp control option.

Some tanks that are really nice at the moment are the Sense Herakles, SMOK TFv4, and the Uwell Crown. I also enjoy the Kanger Subtanks.

You would also need batteries. If you go with an 18650 box, I would suggest the green Samsung 25r's. They are available on amazon. At the moment they are the best around to my knowledge.

A charger to charge those batteries. Nitecore D2 or Nitecore D4 would be your best bets. If you plan to really start vaping, I would go with the D4 so that you can charge up to 4 batteries at once.

Then you would need juice. If you have tasted one that you really liked with a friend, then I would ask that friend what flavor they are vaping. For a really great online option (I swear to god all of his flavors are amazing), Giant Vapor can't be beat. There is also B-X Vapor, VapeWild, and MechSauce. Be aware that whatever juice you might get (unless it says otherwise or was purchased from a local shop) will probably need to steep for 1-2 weeks.

For vendors, I'd recommend VapeWild. Been using them for over a year now and have nothing but awesome things to say about them: https://www.vapewild.com (they'll also send you a free sample pack of their juices if you use WELCOME10 on your first purchase)

Small and packs a punch, eh? I can't really recommend from experience (I have an ijoy Captain - while it's an awesome mod, it's pretty big), but the Aspire Speeder and Geekvape Aegis are very good

Speeder: www.vapewild.com/aspire-speeder-200w-mod/

Aegis: www.vapewild.com/geekvape-aegis-mod/

There's also the Voopoo Drag, which is a damn awesome mod, but the company is under fire for some shady business practices (nothing to do with the mod, just some folks have been protesting the company): www.vapewild.com/voopoo-drag-157w-tc-box-mod/

Now tanks, I can recommend. With it being your first setup, I'd tell you to get a Crown III by Uwell. I've had one, my friends have had one, pretty much everyone I know has had a Uwell in their lineup at some point. I don't use it anymore after switching to RDAs, but for a first tank it's damn near perfect (get some extra. 25ohm coils if you do pick it up)

www.vapewild.com/uwell-crown-3-tank/

www.vapewild.com/crown-3-coils-by-uwell/

Another tank I'd recommend is the Fireluke by Freemax. The tank is huge and the first coil I had in it lasted me a month while chain vaping ~70W.

https://www.vapewild.com/fireluke-tank-by-freemax-vape/

Also, don't forget batteries and chargers! You can find them here on the site: https://www.vapewild.com/batteries-chargers/

However, I'd personally recommend the Nitecore charger, which you can find on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KBFZDI8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tQl1AbPRQHPSC

Well, I hope I covered everything - cheers!

Unfortunately there is no singular "best device", there are many different devices out there to choose from depending on what you're looking for... And what you're looking for may very well change with time as well.

Most of the higher end mods (the battery part of the kit) use 18650 rechargeable batteries, which does add a bit to your startup costs for charger, batteries, and generally a more expensive mod.

Personally I prefer smaller single-battery mods like the Sigelei Spark, and for the price it's a pretty sweet deal. Some people prefer larger devices that use two batteries together for higher performance, but that just isn't me.

The tank could also be a tough choice. I've been using a Kanger Subtank Mini for the past year or so, and it does great for me. It comes with a rnebuildable atomizer (RBA) so I can make my own coils, but you can also buy replaceable coils if you prefer. There are more tasks out there than you can shake a stick at, and one person's love will be another's hate... But I think the subtank isn't a bad place to start, they're reliable, adjustable, easy to maintain, and easy to find.

Of course there are decent kits that include a tank and rechargeable unit without a replaceable battery if you're not looking to get that fancy. Something like the Kanger Subvod Mega or Joyetech eGo One might fit the bill.

I linked several different shops on purpose, I've had good experiences with all of them, but of course there are many more out there too. If you have a good brick and mortar vape shop in your area it's worth a visit to see what they have and might recommend.

1a. Maybe start off on 28? I started off there and have tried 24 gauge, but I prefer the 28 because its easier to coil and build. (If you're daring I suggest trying a twisted 28. Good flavor, decent clouds, and juice is easier to deal with since I've found single coil to waste juice a lot more).

1b. Cotton is a little trickier since its your first time building, but I suggest looking around on some videos for tutorials and what not. I suggest Japanese organic cotton, don't have to boil, just wick and wet and you'll be ready. Here's what I use.

1c. This is a great tutorial about ohms and building.

2. Juice is really up to you and how you want it. I've heard that the best for the mini is 50/50? Could be wrong, but look around on /r/electronic_cigarette and there should be some stuff that answer your questions.

3. I suggest starting off on a RDA before you start building for the mini. Get something like the Dark Horse or Plume Veil. (again personal preference)

4. Buy yourself a charger with some batteries that will fit for your istick. Its a lot easier to just interchange the batteries rather than wait until the battery dies and then having to wait for it to charge.

Hope this helps!

u/phongy · 3 pointsr/Vaping101

Bare minimum you will need: cotton, wire, something to wrap around and something for compressing your coil.

For cotton: I would suggest buying something like this on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/MUJI-Makeup-Facial-Cotton-Unbleached/dp/B00VHA3ZXQ/ref=pd_sim_194_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=41cjwcCYTrL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0GR5E3FGJMNV5WKEV7CP

For wire: This will be dependent on your mod and what route you want to take. Does your mod support TC? Do you want to use TC? If yes to both of those questions, you'll have to do a little bit of research on what wire you think you'll prefer. I've never used TC so I can't be much help in that area. If you want to go with classic kanthal, I would suggest starting with 26g because it holds its shape well without being too stiff or too springy.

For a wrap: You can simply use a screwdriver as a bare minimum OR you can use a coil wrapping jig with makes it unbelievably easy but will cost you a bit more. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Original-Authentic-Authenticity-Japanese-InnoVaper/dp/B00ZPTE00C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1462901328&sr=8-3&keywords=coil+jig

For compressing the coil: You can use a set of pliers to pinch your coils together when you're positioning your coil but you CAN NOT have them touching the coil when you are pulsing it for even glow. With that said, I'd highly suggest using ceramic tweezers because you can use them while pulsing.

When I started building coils I went ahead and bought an all in one tool kit for convenience like this one if you so desire (though everything listed above will do you fine): http://www.amazon.com/Coil-Master-Authentic-Tweezers-Resistant/dp/B017RX4DJ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462901516&sr=8-1&keywords=coil+master

Hope that helps you get started with building coils, feel free to ask any additional questions. For how to wrap coils I'd start with something on youtube like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxuE-WE17Fg

26ga kanthal

Cotton

Screwdriver set

Velocity clone by tobecco

Pliers

That's about $60 bucks after shipping, and gets you pretty much everything you need.

You can opt for higher quality things. There's some great coil jig sets out there for about $15, which basically make coils for you. Theres higher quality cotton, better kanthal but this is a good basic setup. It's what I use, at least.

You'll see a lot of people vouching for the velocity clone, its a great RDA with a lot of room to build on.

As far as what mod you want? That's tough. That's a whole other conversation. I can tell you what I use, and what I like about them, though.

I use a Sigelli 150 TC, it's a dual 18650 box mod with temp control, I have two Samsung 25r's that have been "married" since I got them, and live in my mod. My Velocity usually sits on top of it. I use this set up at home, and try new builds on it.

My on the go set up is a Smok xcube mini box mod single 18650, with a royal hunter mini on top. I make sure to build around .3 to .4 on this set up, and stay in a safe range for the single battery. Using an online ohms law calculator, I'm vaping a .38 build at 40 watts. Which is drawing 10a from my battery that's rated for 20a.

u/flower1988 · 1 pointr/Vaping101

Kanthal is typically used and will be your most commonly seen wire. I only know of Gplat as an alternative (I used it... not worth the price increase IMO) I get mine from Amazon, I originally started with 28 gauge, then a buddy let me borrow his 26 gauge, that was good too. I purchased some 24 gauge and it drains my batteries hard (which is why I want a dual box mod.)

Yes, a mod is the housing. Then you will need your atomizer and battery.

I started dripping with the IGO-w atty with the Smok Magneto Mod. Biggest problem I had with it is it was small and i had to drill the air holes. I still use the Magneto.

I would never suggest tank anything. I tried both the genuine and the clone russian 91% and it was a terrible experience.

So, for a beginner getting into dripping I would suggest these parts:

[Plum Veil Atomizer] (http://www.eciggity.com/plume-veil-clone-by-tobeco/) (Note! I have not bought anything from this site.)

ANY single battery 18650 mechanical mod. They all realistically do the same thing. RipTrippers.com does a lot of reviews, they should be able to point you in the right direction. I do however suggest one with a magnetic fire button instead of spring. (It will lower resistance and last longer because springs are weaker than magnets)

Atleast 2 [18650 Sony batteries] (http://www.myvaporstore.com/SONY_VTC5_18650_2600mAh_Battery_Flat_Top_30A_p/sny65026-f.htm)

Charger I chose the two battery one for money purposes but I suggest the 4 since it's only like $5 more and can charge a myriad of batteries

[These clamp things] (http://www.amazon.com/5-5-KELLY-Hemostat-FORCEPS-Straight/dp/B000QWK174/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1414788271&sr=8-6&keywords=medical+clamps) makes building much easier

I use these but a lot of people use nailclippers

[Wire] (http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Lightning-Vapes-Kanthal-Resistance/dp/B00JVXVKB0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1414788396&sr=8-2&keywords=28+gauge+kanthal+wire) either 28 or 26 gauge is what I would recommend.

Cotton Balls

[Ohm Tester] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MBNCOMG/ref=s9_simh_gw_p328_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0J7AHRP45YSC4DHAS7DB&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846)

Drill bits, allen keys or screwdriver to wrap coils around (i usually use Allen Keys)

Another Screwdriver for you builds

Tweezers are nice for accurate adjustments

Some people suggest a torch.... it's a waste of money for most builds. The main idea behind them is they are used to burn off any chemicals on the wire... but when you are done building you just fire it a few times before you put cotton in them and it does the same thing. Some builds need a more flexible wire... that is the only time you will need it.

Note: I 100% support the use of Clones, especially when you are starting out your vape life. They save so much money and do an adequate (if not better) job of most authentics.

u/boomincali · 2 pointsr/Vaping101

When I first started out with building my own coils, I used this site to help me with what build I needed.

steam-engine.org

If you're using a tank, I'd suggest building at around 1.0-.5 ohms.

Here's a video on how to build coils.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBpwZoxG3d0

https://www.lightningvapes.com/ - Nice place to buy your kanthal from. I've been vaping this wire for years now. A spool of a 100 feet would last you just as long. They also sell tools in the site like wire cutters, pliers, screw driver sets and tweezers. Even if you already have those laying around the house somewhere, I would buy a set just for your vape equipment to keep them clean and free from dirt and oil.

http://www.unkamensupplies.com/collections/stainless-steel-wire - If you want to get into the temp control world, I recommend stainless steel wire since it's a bit easier to build with as opposed to ni200 (nickel) and cheaper than titanium.

http://www.amazon.com/ORGANIC-Cotton-Makeup-Puff-Medium/dp/B000TCD51A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453484639&sr=8-1&keywords=puff+cotton - I bought this bag last April. My gf took half of it for makeup removal purposes and left the half for me to use for vaping. I'm still working on that half. It's a lot of cotton for close to $5.

If you have any questions, just send me a PM.

Edit: Also, I recommend you buy a 4-bay charger for your batteries. Even though it has an onboard battery charger, even the manufacturer recommends you use a separate charger. And marry those three batteries. Meaning charge them together and use them together. Never separate the three.

I bought a bag of this recently and it's amazing. I have no break in period and the flavor is amazing. If you search you can find it under $10 on amazon. I have also used Koh Gen Do cotton. It had a day or two break in time, but was great after that.

Between the two I prefer the MUJI, for the lack of a break in period and it roles great with the scottish role method.

This is the charger I ordered, and it works great. I charge my batteries in series depending on color and the days in which I use them. Would recomend this charger for you.

As for batteries, there are a number of different batteries for your device. I use a Segeli 100w and a Segeli 150w and use the same batteries

Flush Cut Wire Cutters

Miniture Multi-drive Set

Battery Cases Never transport cells naked, especially near change/keys.

Also, I would highly suggest getting 9 batteries, I keep one set on the charger, one in the mod and one in the cases fully charged as a backup. I picked up those cases, specifically sol I could color code my battery sets, helps keep them together.

If you don't want to mess with building your own coils, I've recently started using these pre-built coils and I absolutely love em. I'd built a few claptons on my own, but frankly it was a lot more time than I wanted to mess with sometimes. They are pretty decent quality, they are all machine built so they are perfectly uniform and they make a quick coil change reletively painless.

u/kretik · 1 pointr/Vaping101

Not much to add to an excellent setup. I find that long-term the hardest part is to find the juice you really like, because the gear generally tends to be good if you go for what most people are using. I'd only add one of these which are a godsend when wicking. Vape on!

u/scoffsyrup · 3 pointsr/Vaping101

How shaky are your hands? Mine tremble constantly. I like to think it's slight, but it's noticeable enough that people pick up on it. There are a lot of things in my house that are all wobbly because I can't properly screw them back together after taking them apart. That said, I've seen enough posts from people who had "hand issues" of some sort, and were able to successfully rebuild protank heads that I feel okay taking a stab at it. I ordered some kanthal on eBay last night, and will let you know how it goes once it arrives.

I'm going to try a drill bit, but I've seen a lot of people recommend the the Artistic Wire Coiling Gizmo ( http://www.amazon.com/Artistic-Wire-Coiling-Deluxe-Jewelry/dp/B0068RQ85K/ ). Wrapping around something immobile may make it easier for you.

u/dePeatrick · 1 pointr/Vaping101

I picked up an Intillicharger about 3 yrs ago after some looking around, still working fine...can't remember how much I paid for it but was on a budget and was pleasantly surprised how affordable it was.

This was the one.... Price here Under 20 bucks :)

u/Vapeboy123456 · 2 pointsr/Vaping101

Sweet, thanks for your help! I actually broke my first starter kit because I pushed the pin too far. I'll take up on your advice and by a nylon washer or something similar.

Two last question, I hear people don't use the built in charger for the batteries. I'm guessing people use something like? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KBFZDI8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00

Second, did you have to clean your Griffin when you first got it? I remember my first tank had some machine oil but I didn't know how to clean it properly. Is baking soda and vinegar enough?

u/rubermnkey · 1 pointr/Vaping101

use a sploof. you can make one easy enough or you can buy a fancy one. a little fan is also good at helping it dissipate, or vape in the bathroom. don't bother with changing your tank or trying to ghost a hit.

Get some rayon, it is called cellucotton... this https://www.amazon.com/Graham-Cellucotton-Beauty-Coil-Feet/dp/B001BKY3B0 stuff. I use it and it works damn good. Prob find it in wallmart or a "beauty" store. I also have some Koh Gen Do cotton that is pretty cheap off of Amazon. Im looking at the I4 and some LG batteries

I'll eventually get into rebuilding, but for now I want a system with pre-built coils that are trustworthy and affordable; so Im looking at the TVF4 mostly. The Quad Coil seems to have the best performance but it doesn't list what metals the coils are made of. Because of that I may just get the stainless steal low ohms coils. I'm emailing Smok to get more info now

What coils? I use the Joyetech 1ohm CLR coils. I solved the gurgling by re-wicking them with a thicker piece of cotton. I like to make a wick that is just able to squeeze into the coil, it should be a tight fit. I find that a looser fitting, thinner wick is what causes the popping and gurgle problems for me. When I re-wick it becomes a very smooth even pull. I use this cotton to make my wicks.

  2. ) [Here] (http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Lightning-Vapes-Ceramic-Tweezers/dp/B00KAEWG76)

  3. ) You have to buy wire and make your own coils, or buy pre-made coils. RDAs don't have coil heads like clearomizers. You'll have to do some research and decide what you want to try.

  4. ) You're dripping, not using a tank. It's very unlikely that you want to go above 4.5mg/ml.

  5. ) You may not be too satisfied with the Doge3 then - everything I've read said that's a "cloud chaser" design, more concerned with delivering vapor than flavor and throat hit.

Cotton: amazon

Wire and batteries: lightning vapes

Cheap atomizers: fasttech

____

Total for a year: ~50$

Now if you don't mind vaping unflavored you can get glycerin from your local pharmacy for ~6$/250ml and get some nicotine online, 100ml of 100mg/ml nic is about 50$, from which you can make 3300ml of 3mg nic e-juice. Or you can get premixed base from places like ecigexpress.com or bullcityvapor.com and throw in some flavorings to try recipes when you're bored.

A yearly total for this is hard to make because everybody just happens to jump knee-deep into it as a hobby.

My apologies, It was 9 wraps and it turns out that my screwdriver is in fact a 0pt. (Assumed it was 3/32.)

Trying to figure out what the actual diameter is but I'm having a bit of trouble.

It's out of this set of Stanley screwdrivers if it helps.

theoretically would this work? It's the same brand but cheaper

I live in the UK and just found 40 feet of this https://www.amazon.co.uk/SANEK-Cellucotton-Beauty-Coil-BT42251/dp/B001BKY3B0/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1479170904&sr=8-1&keywords=cellucotton

Is it the same stuff it seems much more expensive but looks the same, probably because of import costs I guess. Still cheaper than any of this glorified stuff though so I could definitely pick some up after payday if it'll do the trick!

Also on a side note how many times do I rewick a "disposable" coil, or do I use it until it breaks?

These things are magic. My wife uses this for the whacky tobacci but I decided to blow some vape into it (not holding back, high vg on rda) for shits and giggles and I was stunned to see almost zero vapor.

For me, the button was always the first thing to get hot. In your case, I would use an ohmmeter to test the resistance while the atomizer is connected to the mod. Remember to clean your mechanical mod regularly, because a dirty mod can cause shorts, opens, and power loss. I use this for cleaning. Just make sure not to get any on the atomizer or the airflow holes, because it is poisonous when swallowed and flammable.

For a coil kit that comes with a decent ohm meter. http://www.amazon.com/Walant-Coil-Complete-Vape-Tool/dp/B011DT48UO

And for a battery charger I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Version-NITECORE-i4-Intellicharge-Charger/dp/B005UAI372

Some people prefer the D4 over the I4; but I use the rx200 with vct4's and have no issue with the I4.

With that kit, you can also order some kanthal and start doing basic builds. Spend a little time on YouTube learning to build on your Atty and you'll get the hang of it in no time.
