I was thinking of https://www.amazon.com/Sketches-Ironweed-American-Classics-Ironwood/dp/0965530981 which wasn't a novel like I remembered but instead short stories/journal entries/letters etc. (Including when she meets the inspiration for "Laurie" while in Europe). I found it funnier than I expected, I like her a lot.

If any of you want to read an excellent piece of historical fiction surrounding this topic and era then I highly suggest picking up a copy of The Great Stink.

This book is excellent. It's by the woman who was on Victorian Farm, if you've seen that. It's available from B&N, too.

Yeah, these photos are from a British book of a similar concept. I read that the people being photographed were able to write their own biographies to go with their photos.

I also bought this book about that Revolution book a few months ago.
