So Jetseal109 is this one product someone else used on their Jetta a while back and it looked great. It's a sealer, an alternative to wax and is advertised to last longer than other products out there.

You would want to polish it first to bring the color and shine back then use the sealant to protect that so it helps slow down the paint from going back to looking dull.

It is applied on a pad or in my case I used a old, used, and CLEAN (jokes aside) cotton sock to one part of the body, allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Wipe it off and have it sit for anther 20 minutes while I do another part of the body. Then go over the previous part with another coat to make sure it is evenly coated and remove it after 15 minutes again.

Since this is my first time using this product I am hoping it will last a few months longer than wax. I think the next time around I'll start with a clay bar, followed by this Jetseal then finish with my go to wax.

if the filter doesn't fix it all, or even as a proactive measure before installing the new filter, some cleaner for the whole system would help alot. It goes in the intake behind the glovebox and outside the car as per directions on the can, just don't breathe much air from the cabin until you are done spraying, then breathe peacefully.

edit: didn't look at that product as closely as I should have (sorry for that,) seems far more complicated than my actual favorite, whose process is a bit easier

I have but one complaint with car seat anchors in the GLI. It's rather difficult to make the top anchor secure enough to feel safe because it's too close. I finally got it by pulling the top strap down and under the lower anchor strap, and using that as leverage.

I took some pictures to show what I'm talking about.

The seat brand is Evenflo, and it's a convertible. As soon as my kid hits the right weight, it'll get changed into a booster. Also, get yourself one of those car seat mats. I have this one from Prince Lionheart and it protects the seats really well.

I used this stuff with a microfiber. Didn't take long at all and came out really nicely. I was just amazed at how much soot built up in a few months.

Check on Amazon for a support clamp. I've attached a link to something that may help... Lisle 44870 Gold Lift Support Clamp https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002SRCYM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XqBwDbWHM3HAR

Ordered this stuff from Amazon.

Beware that it's REALLY difficult to get it to work real nice around the sharp corners of the trim. I didn't try heating it up or anything because it's a matte black and I didn't want it to gloss over from heat/melting.

Honestly, you might want to look into vinyl wrapping through a local tint shop or similar - you should have better results that last longer. This stuff chipped and pealed in some areas after about 9 or 10 months in mild PNW weather.

My Mk4 came with the separate single height radio/tape and 6 CD changer components. The connector is the "ISO" style, with two 8 pin connectors (one for four speakers, one for power). I have heard one of the connector styles referred to as a "quadlock" but I'm not sure if that's the one the Monsoon uses, or just newer/other models.

I took the connector that came in the box with my replacement stereo and just spent a few minutes soldering/heatshrinking the wires to make a harness, as I couldn't find one for sale that matched my Sony stereo exactly.

From memory only 3 wires in the power block are necessary - ground, and the permanent and switched 12V. I read something about some trickery with replacing the Monsoon units and requiring extra equipment to turn on/off with the ignition properly, but mine seems to behave as normal (stays on until you remove the key).

You might also need an antenna amplifier, your replacement stereo should have a power out (often used to raise a mechanical radio antenna) that will work for that. Just make sure you pick carefully, because there are a couple of styles of antenna connector too. I think I ended up with this one.

I also used this trim adapter to fit the standard 2-DIN stereo in the VW's dash.

I can pull my stereo out tomorrow and take some pictures if that would help.

As a black car owner:

  • A good wax
  • A California Duster
  • Quick Detailer

EDIT I feel like someones going to chime in and say I'm wrong. This is the way I keep my black car clean & new looking. I bet there are better ways but I do what works for me...

Bently Manual

/u/broken_cogwheel is right on the money about the factory service manual. You need to get the Bentley manual for your vehicle if you're going to be doing any serious work on it. It details just about everything you could imagine for your car.. It's worth 10 times the $70 in just time saved not searching the internet and not taking shit apart incorrectly. Here is a used one for $50, And here is another one you can bid on. Here is a torrent for a PDF of the Bentley, although it says it's missing some pages. To be honest I would rather spend the $70 and have the complete paper version, but this may get you through your timing issue. Buy one and stop getting frustrated with random internet articles.

Also, not for nothing, but If you're going to buy a $600 German car, you're going to end up with $600 German car problems.
