Interesting. The Esquire cover is actually supposed to feature the real Dr. Manhattan.

>Did you come up with the idea of the Esquire cover in the writers room too?
>
>Yeah. We really liked the idea that there had been an iconic Esquire magazine cover featuring Silk Spectre and Dr. Manhattan in the prime of their romance in the style of one of those great George Lois Esquire covers from the ’60s and ’70s.

This is the one I have and for someone who isn't a die-hard fan, this is the way to go. It has recolored pages (superior in my opinion) and has a bit of bonus stuff included. If you're looking for a really nice "collectible" copy, you want the Absolute Edition for sure. Also, I hope you watched The Ultimate Cut...

I highly recommend the book Watchmen and Philosophy: A Rorschach Test It has a great collection of essays about all the characters and their motivations from a philosophical perspective that is very enlightening.

I have this one. It's the only copy I've ever owned, but it's nice. It's large, but it's not ridiculously large. It also has a bunch of concept art and other stuff at the rear. Overall I'm pleased with it.

While you don’t really need to read or watch the original (as others have said), I strongly recommend buying the original graphic novel because it’s so good!

This is where you should start. It is the main 12 issues that came out in the 80's by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. This story is what the series is a sequel/remix to and the story(ish) that the movie is based on. It seems like a lot of reading but I usually cruise through all 12 issues in a matter of days. It's a masterpiece!

The other comics are by other writers and artists and aren't as good.

I have always been horrified by how little attention the Tulsa Massacre receives. It was a Kristalnacht against people of color. We hear all the time about the race riots of the late 1960s, especially following the death of Martin Luther King. The riots after the police beat the shit out of Rodney King are fresh in our minds are replayed all the time on television. These are perceived as being instigated by black people.

What happened to an entire community in Tulsa is never discussed.

IMNSHO, It is a clear example of how the white community treats "uppity" POC when they are perceived as doing well.

I also think it is an example of how the capitalist oligarchy will use race to turn the working class against each other, but that is a whole other discussion.

I suggest the following for more information:

  • Oprah's segment on 60 minutes. It is behind a paywall but I am sure reddit can find it elsewhere. It is about Lynching more than Tulsa but it is still an untold (at least in the all white, wealthy high school I went too) history of a horrific and oft repeated and un-reported act. The extras after the segment are excellent as well
  • Black Wall Street: From Riot to Renaissance
  • The Burning

There are more books, but I feel those 2 are the best, especially the first book

The original story is just 12 issues collected into one book. Here is the paperback, but I'll personally recommend the Deluxe Edition if you want to spend a bit more. It's bigger and hardback and has some supplemental material.

This looks like a new edition but it's the original content... Watchmen (2019 Edition) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1779501129/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_n7E3DbY3QJ554

It's available for free if you have Kindle Unlimited, otherwise I'd go to my local library and see if they have it. My library even has an app I can use to download comics through them.

I'm also interested in this question. Also, if anyone's read the Sequart volume on Watchman, Minutes to Midnight.

Haven't found just a mask but These claim to be see thru.

u/gricci95 · 2 pointsr/Watchmen

It’s paperback, the front is just a close up of the blood splatter on the comedian’s button, nothing else.

Edit: this is the one.

u/TheHoundThatRides · 6 pointsr/Watchmen

The comic is just a 12-issue run. You can get it off Amazon.

There are other spinoffs but they're not as good and the show doesn't consider them canon anyways.
