Interesting and not entirely surprising. "Human factors" are the messy part of these kind of enterprises. I saw the Mirimar outfit and another outfit called Fab Lab which also seems mostly targeted to kids/young adults. It appears to be a Massey initiative and the website doesn't seem to have had a lot of activity since 2016.

So in terms of funding, services for kids seem to be adequate (an easy sell). I wonder if there's another angle into this than encouraging STEM uptake or fostering commercial innovation? The Menzshed model is an interesting one to investigate. From what I see, they're strapped for cash and resources (possibly a factor of retirees generally having more options and a dying interest in shop work) but their tie-in to community projects is a good strategy.

I'm thinking a good angle into this is personal growth. Adopt and reflect the "Shop Class as Soulcraft" philosophy (a great book if you haven't read it). A kind of Outward Bound for knowledge workers to reconnect thinking with doing. Taking that angle, it might be possible to muster up corporate sponsorship from companies that want to be seen to value innovative, creative and resilient work forces? Possibly even health-related project funding to cater to folks who are burnt-out or looking for an outlet for tangible creativity?

Appreciate the interest. I've cued up a drink with someone in the thread for 6pm tomorrow. Seems sensible to widen the invite out to all who have expressed interest so will confirm they're OK with that and if so post meeting details to original post.

Hi, I am doing whittling and wood carving here in Wellington for a while and what I found out is that ok wood for whittling is cedar, rimu and kauri. These are reasonably soft and great option for whittling (carving only with knife). For wood carving with gouges is totara and also all the above great option. Otherwise I order basswood(european lime) from Amazon. This is so far the best wood for carving and its a pleasure to carve. I am a bit sad that basswood is not very present here.. :-( even though Ive seen these trees here, they are considered more exotic and it will be quite shame to chop them down..

Down below are links for whittling knife which I use and am very happy with (i have tried more than 15 different whittling/carving knives) and basswood.

If you are interested to meet me I offer these whittling/wood carving workshops here in Wellington(the last is 20 July 2019) Then I go back to Czech republic for more wood carving studies:

> I would love to.

If that's the case, any barriers you perceive are just that- perception. Perceptions can be changed but that has to happen consciously.

This might sound like self-help guru bullshit (which I have a strong dislike of) but a shift in perception in 2010 completely changed my life.

You really can move back here whenever you want- if you REALLY want. You've just got to allow yourself.

If, like me, you're the kind of person who is grounded in science and proof, read The Answer.

If you have more of a 'mystical universe' view of the world, read The Secret.

Bottom line, if you want it, it's attainable, and it doesn't have to be at the cost of career, time, your passport or whatever.

I'll come meet you at the airport.

I picked up a pair of JBL E40 on-ear headphones for something silly like $40 or $50 from The Warehouse on special a while back. I've seen them pop up at that price again a couple of times since. I use mine exclusively at the gym.

So the thing with MREs is that they actually do not have a massively long shelf life - only a few years, as they were designed more to allows for half-decent remote meals away from a camp, hence the flameless ration heater that comes in every one.

So if you are wanting to store long-life meals, Like has already been posted, I would suggest the back country cuisine meals as they are dehydrated, and will store for longer.

That being said, people are always on Youtube reviewing MREs from long past their recommended consumption date, and they are fine. So you could always just go for the MRE, at around $25 a meal though, they are quite expensive locally. You could simply buy them on Amazon for a lot less.

Personally, in my survival kit, we only have a few dehydrated meals, and the rest is canned goods. Cans will last, and then you recycle them through.

I should set up a file server too for some docs I want to share around the house.

My new mobo will have 4 sata slots, I have a couple of these about to add more drives. Case is a Fractal Design Node 804, so can fit 12 drives in it.

Yea I need the power. Would like to go for 3700X or 3800X, but 8 core is too much.

I'm using a projector as my main "TV", no screen, directly on my wall, works really well. I wouldn't recommend renting if you plan to use it more than a few times. Lots of rental projector are very low quality, while you can get really good ones around $1k now, and basic ones around $500 (only talking about new, so much less used). For about $900 I got a 1920x1080, 3D, short throw (3m wide image with it only 1.4m away from the wall), etc. this one (bought at PB tech during sales).

Wait, there are multiple brands of lube available in 55-gallon drums from Amazon?! Someone else posted this link.

u/daemonpie · 1 pointr/Wellington

If you haven't find a suitable one, maybe one of these could be a possibility?

I was going to suggest this great value option but they don't ship to NZ :(
