If they're anything like my xp500's, you have to buy an adapter for it. I got one on amazon for $30, and the turtle beach headset cord for like $10. They sound great and I haven't had any problems with it, I can enjoy my games loud late at night with no one yelling at me to turn it down now lol.

Edit: here's the adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IAVDOS6?pc_redir=1410327818&robot_redir=1

Edit 2: and here's the talkback adapter for the turtle beach. Idk if it works on the xp400s, they should! http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B08REVE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1410424412&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40

If you are planning on playing online at all, Xbox LIVE Gold is only $35 on amazon for a year right now (usually $60)

Along with that- please read the Terms of Use and Code of Conduct. If there are other players that are spoiling a game, or have inappropriate content in their profiles or gamertags, please use the complaint feature on the Dashboard.

Having a harddrive is nice because you can load games onto it so the CD doesn't have to spin the whole time you are playing, as well as downloading digital copies of certain games from the marketplace.

Definitely get the Play and Charge kit, using AA batteries is a pain and it is hard to tell when they are dying, and it starts to affect gameplay.

As everyone else said, new consoles are usually the way to go unless you know someone personally who’s willing to give you a great deal. Stores will overcharge for the used consoles and you never know what condition they will be in. Buying from separate sellers even more so. People like to sell their consoles for the same price as it costs for a new one and it’s always baffles me.

New XBOX Ones are pretty cheap now anyways. While they were cheaper during Black Friday, you can still get the S model here with all 5 Halo games for just $257 (with Prime shipping!): https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01GW3GY3K/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1520810276&sr=8-13&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=xbox+one

I’m kind of procrastinating right now so if I run into any other good deals I’ll let you know.

The headset adapter is amazing.

At least for me, using my astro headset with one 3.5mm plug for both sound and mic, it plugs right into the adapter and everything works. If you have two plugs at the end of your headset, you are gonna need one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004SP0WAQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?qid=1419697744&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

I can even mute my tv, blast the volume on the adapter, and sit across the room listening to whatever game/tv I'm playing.

It has volume buttons, a mute button, and can change the volume between voice and the game sounds.

I use it constantly.

Edit: just looked up the headset, probly won't be able to use the mix amp with the xbox one unless it has an optical cable. If it does you are good just need the adapter. If not you are still good just won't get the mix amp volume controls and such.

This is a full solution; but I am sure you can connect it to a projector and not the built in screen:

https://www.amazon.com/VANGUARD-Personal-Gaming-Environment-Consoles-Included/dp/B00H0R9DSG?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1&th=1

Or just a caring case: (leave the HDMI cable connected to the projector (I assume you use it for other things as well) and just would need to connect the console to the HDMI and then plug in power

Please do some research before you follow the hive mind...

Xbox LIVE 12 Month Gold Membership Card
http://amzn.com/B0029LJIFG

And it regularly goes on sale for cheaper than that, I buy it from best buy or Fred Myers when it goes below $40.

u/kvnmahan · 3 pointsr/xbox

That's always where I look first. Here's the best offer i could find in under 12 seconds :-)

u/m4d_g0d_c4o5e7h · 1 pointr/xbox

After looking at the user guide, it appears you have to buy another piece of equipment to use with HDMI. It would be much easier just to get this and then you can use any headset you want.

Just check page 10 of the user manual /u/HeroOfTime14 linked you, and it shows you need to hook your HDMI into another box (not included) then HMDI to your monitor, then Optical Out to the transceiver. Honestly, that's a lot more money spent in the short run.

I got a 2TB usb 3.0 external drive for my xbox one on my birthday(dec 5th) and when i installed it i followed these steps.

  • With the console off, plug in the drive.
  • Turn on the console and wait for the home screen to load.
  • a notification will appear telling you that your 'External drive is ready to be configured'
  • Hold the home button to open that and configure it.
  • After configuration you will be giving a final window asking to install all future items on this drive, choose yes!

Hope this helped, I just did it myself, but if you're willing to spend $140 on a 2tb expansion drive for your xbox I would suggest doing it with these.

    $40 - 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure & 3 Front USB 3.0 Ports Media HUB - Xbox One

    $100 - 2.5" Sata HDD

Any third party controller is going to be terrible.

Thats about the best you'll get online.

You might be able to snipe 12 controllers on ebay.

u/Claymoresama · 2 pointsr/xbox

That special cord is cheap and is just a sata to USB adapter like so StarTech.com SATA to USB Cable - USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive Adapter - External Converter for SSD/HDD Data Transfer (USB3S2SAT3CB) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HJZJI84/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_RU1iDbHZ5T79J

u/dreamville · 1 pointr/xbox

Don't buy a HD from EB Games/Gamestop you will end up paying full retail price.

An official MS 250GB goes for $79.99 on Amazon.com I'm sure they have smaller if you don't need that much space or grab a USB flash drive. I do believe Xbox supports up to 32GB.

Edit: Here is a link for a generic 60GB for $40, check out the reviews.

u/JediMasterASD · 2 pointsr/xbox

I bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KNNSKV0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and used the Optical audio output on the XB1 into the adapter and then a 3.5mm cable to go from adapter to the AUX in on my PC speakers and it works perfect. I can even hear the audio from the Xbox at the same time as audio from my PC so no need for changing inputs on my speakers or anything.

u/TristinPerry · 1 pointr/xbox

I'm afraid with $20 you probably won't be able to find any sweet deal on Xbox Live memberships. If you are able to conjure up some extra money you can buy either a card or an online code from Amazon at this link
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Live-Month-Membership-Online/dp/B002VBWIP6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1419536887&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+live

For Windows support you'll want the wireless variant with Windows in the name, as the non-"Windows" variant doesn't include the dongle. The dongle works plug-and-play with Windows 7 (IIRC, or 8.x+). The dongle can also be bought separately. You might also want the Play-and-charge kit.

u/boxsterguy · 1 pointr/xbox

Get some good AA rechargeables, like the Amazon Basics white batteries or Eneloops and a charger. Keep one set charged while using the other set, and then swapping out is quick and simple.

u/Chris_Tehtopher · 0 pointsr/xbox

Here ya go. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E61G4O/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have the specific one and it works. Its not a converter but a whole replacement and will give you HD if the game supports it.

u/SigmaTheDJ · 1 pointr/xbox

For the drive, you want a 500GB, 1TB, or 2TB 2.5" HDD or SSD. There's loads of choice out there. An SSD will give you considerably faster loading times in many games, but obviously it'll cost you more.

You'll also need the tools to open the console and a USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA adapter so that you can hook the drive up to a computer. I bought THIS and THIS respectively.

I followed the instructions in THIS thread, which includes links to full video guides on YouTube.

u/IridianRaingem · 1 pointr/xbox

After I said monitor I went on with my reddit life then this randomly popped into my head. My friend was looking into getting one. I forgot these exist.

https://www.amazon.com/VANGUARD-Personal-Gaming-Environment-Consoles-Included/dp/B00H0R9DSG

u/antmbel · 1 pointr/xbox

Then you'll need to also buy the adapter for the controller from Microsoft. This will be the more expensive purchase as I think I bought my headset converter for about $5.

Edit: Here are the links.

Steelseries Siberia V2 Pick Your Color

Headset Adapter

You can alternatively use any 3.5mm stereo headset with the adapter if you choose as long as it has a seperate mic and headphone jack. You can use this setup with a PS4 or any Android or iPhone if you wish.

u/icanarejesus · 3 pointsr/xbox

I use the wireless controller with my PC all the time. You absolutely HAVE to buy the wireless controller dongle, there's no way to make it work without one. Plugging the controller in with a charge & play kit just charges it, it won't transfer the controls through to the computer. I went ahead and bought this one a few years ago, since the dongle itself was around $20 at the time. I figured I may as well get another controller with it for an extra $15.

It came with the installation CD as well.

It's prime eligible right now, too!

u/cljoy · 2 pointsr/xbox

You will need a optical to analog converter

Something like this should do it

PROZOR DAC Digital SPDIF Toslink to Analog Stereo Audio R/L Converter Adapter with Optical Cable- https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KNNSKV0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9lZPBb2BTQ1KN

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T76ZGDO/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

This product is awesome. It has sata connectors inside the device and 3 more USB 3.0 ports. So you can just buy a standard SSD and use it. Plug and play. NO! this is not overkill. idk the speed of the hard drives in the xbox but it cant be a 10k RPM or 15k RPM. But SSD is 100x faster than any mechanical hard drive EVER.

>If so are there other serviceable options?

What do you mean by this?

u/Demache · 1 pointr/xbox

Good news, this will do exactly what you need. Its just a HDMI pass-thru but it extracts the audio to analog stereo or optical audio.

u/capmike1 · 2 pointsr/xbox

Something like these:

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-headsets-separate-headphone-microphone/dp/B004SP0WAQ

Edit: I have done much research into these, but in theory they should work, as long as they are CTIA compliant

u/Psychozoa · 7 pointsr/xbox

If you have a wired controller you can just plug it in and be done.

If you have a wireless controller, you HAVE to get a receiver like this for your PC. A plug-n-play kit will NOT work, but you can get a cheap off brand one from China for around $10.

u/sjdaws · 2 pointsr/xbox

My account is AU and I buy digital from Amazon so no shipping fees, e.g https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Live-Month-Gold-Membership/dp/B002VBWIP6

u/moose0003 · 2 pointsr/xbox

They do but you might look into this.

Xbox Stereo Headset Adapter

Just use regular ear buds if you want. However not all will work with game audio and chat. The old Apple ear buds don't with chat but all of the Samsung I have tried worked with both.

u/MousePad17 · 3 pointsr/xbox

I'm guessing you're using the mono-ear headset that game bundled with the system?

Every headset (aside from the mono-ear headsets) will play the game's audio & chat through the headset. You can even plug a standard pair of headphones/earbuds in the 3.5mm jack on the bottom of the controller.

If you have an older version of the Xbox One controller and there's no 3.5mm jack, all you need is the adapter - http://amzn.to/2s9SSq4

Is it the xbox360 slim or xbox360 phat?

That matters because of the HD to buy

This one for the slim
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-250GB-HardDrive-Slim-Only/dp/B002I0JDC6

This one for the phat (original xbox360)
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Hard-Drive-250GB-Slim/dp/B003C1VPEY/

u/birdsandberyllium · 12 pointsr/xbox

You can either plug it in with a micro USB cable or buy the Xbox wireless adapter.

u/xevilrobotx · 2 pointsr/xbox

This is for Xbox one accessories only, you'll need a 360 wireless adapter for 360 accessories.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2

I don't know if it will work with the wheel or not though.

u/TheHonan · 2 pointsr/xbox

Too lazy to edit and on mobile.

But here's a link from the link you dropped.

140$ new for the system. And that's new. Used is always almost half the price when buying from some person vs out of the store.
