If you want portability, the the Cyrus Soundkey or Audioquest Dragonfly red are your options. I use the Soundkey, and it's brilliant. The soundstage and clarity is vastly improved. Then again my daily drivers are the Audio-Technica ATH M40X. For a DAC + amp, then the Teac AI-101DA. It's a bit pricy, but however it's a good DAC amp. I don't have it, but I have heard mostly positive reviews on it, also Zeos, our legend, has reviewed it himself. If you are on a tight budget, well the FiiO - E10K Olympus, has got you covered. It's a really good amp+DAC for the money. A lot of positive reviews. If you are gaming, the Senhiser GSX 1000 is there. What I she said in here are the best in each section.

Zeos found the M40X'S brilliant.
I hope I helped you out, if you have any queries, reply to this comment. Good luck in finding what you want.
Aune's had some problems with the community lately and their prices don't fluctuate often. You can grab the O2 + ODAC combo w/ jacks on massdrop for around 200$ when they drop. I wouldn't go for the JDSlabs ones, kind of expensive. A Simple schiit
stacksmear is always nice but don't get the Uber versions unless you really need em. I'd only need one usb input for source and you can always split the dac out. The element is lovely but you're paying a high premium for user experience. I've heard really really great things about the Micca OriGen. It's a lovely 100$ usb powered dac/amp. In fact, it has similar user experience to the element. Though I've heard it has some funny issues with the pre-outs, I'd definitely recommend this one (based on what I've heard/read). Lots of great options under 250$. Here's a humble dac/amp from SMSL. Any specific features you require? Also, check out the T50RP MkIII. You won't regret it.
edit: words + adding in the SD793/ mur wurds
I would love to!

For the amp I am using the SMSL Q5 Pro as linked by /u/Hercusleaze and I am very happy with it. I bought it especially for the optical input and remote control to use with my xbox alongside my PC. A very good feature is a dedicated sub out, really makes adding a sub simple.

If you dont need all the fancy DAC built in I would highly recommend the SMSL SA36A, SA50, or SA98 depending on the power you want (this depends on how loud you want to get and what your speakers need).

For speakers I am using a pair of Micca MB42X-C in 2.0, although I got them for half off. Most people recommend Micca MB42X, a very solid all rounder at a good entry price. I set my brother with the Fluance SX-6 speakers, and he is really happy with them although they are bass heavy.

These options are solid entry level gear, and for myself I havent needed/felt like upgrading further. If you are looking for something a bit higher end I would suggest checking out the /r/Zeos guide lists or make a dedicated thread!
Two of these amps? https://amzn.com/B00ZSEFU94
Assuming the speakers match up fairly well with those amps in terms of sensitivity and power requirements, I think you should be fine. The line out from the Origen+ can control the volume. You would then split the Left / Right signals with a 3.5mm to RCA Y adapter, and connect the R channel to 1 amp, and L channel to the other - is that correct? Reading the Amp owner's manual, it shows the amp only needs a single input using the bottom-middle RCA connector for bridged mono mode.
I don't see anything wrong with this setup. It is a little unusual - an inexpensive home theater receiver might provide better overall features and power without the connectivity issues.
I digress... The number of connectors and length of cable used would probably influence distortion more than the output of the Origen would. Keeping the signal path away from power sources will help as well.
Also, I don't see how replacing the Origen with a Magni 2 Uber would net you massive audio quality improvements, especially where budget is concerned. Unless you need the coax input for some reason.
I hope that helps? Pretty unique situation. Good luck.
Couple questions.
First you say you are looking for speakers, then you say it has to have an AUX jack. So are you looking for recommends on a whole setup? i.e. speakers, amp, source?
You mention ability to add more speakers in the future, so i assume you don't mean a standalone bluetooth speaker.
Also, budget. In the audio world, for what I think you are looking for, you could spend from a few hundred bucks, to a few thousand, probably even more.
For starters, I would recommend:
AMP:
If you want to add more speakers later, but have a budget, get a stereo (2.1) receiver, such as - Yamaha - Has A, B, and A+B, which is two zones. meaning two sets of two speakers. Can play either, or both. This receiver also has bluetooth. No aux jack though.
Speakers:
Micca MB42X - these are very decent. Z has reviewed them. Should be a good shop speaker.
Don't forget the little stuff, speaker wire at the minimum (16 gauge or bigger), banana plugs are helpful.
He would be covered for FM radio, and bluetooth with the above. If you want him to be able to stream from a laptop he would need a DAC, to convert the USB output to an analog signal. Let me know if you need a recommend for one of those.
It's gonna be hard to find a better new headphone than the 58x at $160. They are easy to drive, comfy and a well-rounded sounding can. Are they great at anything? Not really, but they do just about everything well. You could step up to the 6xx for about $50, which is a much better headphone to my ear.
But my recommendation would be to find a used T20RP/T50Rp mk3 and swap the pads to Shure 1540s https://www.amazon.com/Shure-HPAEC1540-Replacement-Alcantara-Headphones/dp/B00HXAV0UY. Check out r/avexchange for used headphones or HeadFi has a good sale forum. You could also buy them new together on Amazon for about $190 total.
I actually just picked up a T20RP mk3 and was going to send to Modhouse for an Argon conversion, but I also just got a Focal Elex and no longer need for Argons. The one caveat with this recommendation is I'm not sure how well your amp would work with them. Maybe not enough power.
If you are interested, I would be willing to sell my T20s. Send me a PM if you want. I can send pics your way. I was thinking about putting them on r/avexchange anyway.
Try putting your mic into one of those cheap usb dongles
This is what I posted in another thread discussing this:
Just verified this with a FX-audio X6 plugged into PC with optical cable, and the mic plugged into a USB dongle into a USB hub right next to the DAC/amp.
Planning on writing something up to document these findings, but the key is using a DAC that uses optical input and dedicated AC adapter, while plugging the mic into one of those $5 amazon USB dongles.
You also cannot have the USB cable plugged into the DAC at all, even if it's not connected to anything. The moment you plug it in, the ground loop buzzing comes out loud and clear.
Hope this helps
Hmmmm, looking at the Fiio E10K on Amazon after I made my last post and saw that instead of the normal $74.99 it sells for, it's now listing at $99. (I am hoping this is a temporary price jump).
The Monoproce Dac/Amp combo is $79.00 and gets some good love. It Might be worth a look.
Here's what I picked up based on the Zeos 2.0 recommendation thread.
Here's what it looks like setup at my desk - LINK
After installing and setting up Equalizer APO on my system and tuning it by ear through a WIDE assortment of music, this setup sounds absolutely amazing. With the amp and Windows at half volume, it's loud enough to be heard throughout my 2-story house with no audible distortion.
Near-field performance at my desk, where my head it at the peak of basically an equilateral triangle based on where I sit in relation to the speakers, is absolutely astonishing.
I use this setup for games, music, and audio editing for video work I do. It's awesome all-around.
Throw a pair of stands in there like these and it's right at your $300 budget.
I'm assuming, based on your other responses (and because you haven't specified) that you're hooking this up to a computer exclusively, and that you have limited desk space (meaning that standard bookshelf speakers won't fit). Also, I'm going to assume that you don't have SPDIF or optical connections, since you haven't said that you do.
My suggestion, then, would be:
At their price and size, the Miccas are great speakers.
The Nobsound was reviewed by Zeos a while back, and he was pleasantly surprised. Note that you can attach the amp to your computer using USB, the 3.5mm jack, or bluetooth.
The speaker wire is there just to remind you to factor that into your cost. You may already have some laying around, or you can probably find some cheaper than that, or in shorter lengths.
Optional:

Ah yea sorry I didn't notice that you only wanted closed lol. Well the best DAC/Amp (that is also cheap) I can think of is the Monoprice one.
The reason this thing is better than most cheap dac amps is because it's not USB powered. So it might not be the best solution for a semi-portable set up, but I think it's good if you really need a DAC/Amp.
The LSR310S is a dumb sub when the SVS SB12 NSD is basically the same price and has the exact same feature the LSR310S has. That person was talking about a high-pass filter. The SVS and JBL sub can accept an input and only pass through whatever signal is above 80-hz so your main speakers don't play any low bass. There are a few benefits to this.
Doing things the way I described with the Dayton sub will be good enough tbh. Not ideal, but good enough.
Don't get too caught up in Dacs. Modern Dacs are the strongest part of the signal chain by far. Pick up something that'll do what you need. I recommend a Lexicon Alpha. It offers a high-gain balanced pre-out for volume control for cheap. You'll need to split the left and right signal coming out of it to have a pair going to your speakers and a pair to your sub. I'd say a pair of these splitters. Then a pair of 1/4" cables to go to the JBL speakers. Finally you'll need a set of 1/4" to RCA to connect the subwoofer.
The interconnects should not degrade quality in any audible way.
If you can go more, I would get a nicer amp such as some emotiva offerings. if u gotta go small form factor, SMSL sa160 works, although it probably isnt the best amplification. Also look on the used market for Adcom amps. They are super good.
Just want to say thank you for being so helpful I was on the r/headphones subreddit and got THIS Lol... whatever. But I have heard about the Fiio is THIS the one you're talking about? I would do the same as you, makes sense considering then I could just turn up or down the volume within arms reach. Thank you again for some solid assistance. Not to make myself even more confused but is the Schiit Fulla 2 decent? I see it doesn't have a bass boost button which I would appreciate sometimes like the E10k any thoughts?
No worries man! JBL>TRS to RCA>Schiit Sys>RCA to 3.5mm>Laptop. Plug the XLR connection into each speaker and then plug the other end of the XLR cable which is an RCA connection into the Sys output. Then plug the rca to the sys's input. Then plug the other end of the RCA input cables which is an AUX aka 3.5mm plug into your laptop. Another note is to make sure you have a long enough power cable for the JBLs as the one it comes with it quite short. Monoprice makes good cheap power cables such as this. Let me know if you have any other questions; I'd be happy to help!
If you're open to open backs, Fidelio X2's are on sale for $140! Good bass and soundstage from what I've heard, Zeos loved em.

Koss ESP950... to the best of my knowledge, Z hasn't had the opportunity to review them yet, but I suspect after this Massdrop delivers, someone will drop him a pair. It'd be interesting to compare to the Stax in similar price range.

This is a waaay better deal. $660 CAD is like $520 US... and you don't have to wait.

I'm not the guy for a headphone recommendation - spent too many years with a pair of Sony MDR-7506 (which I think are great)
As for the mic and DAC/amp - like I said, you can't go wrong with a ModMic 5 and either a Schiit Fulla or a Micca Origain G2
Antlion
The Schiit
Micca Origain g2
/ the above DAC/amps are good and function on USB power, so they're portable
Yeah you have a C/Sub output so you can get a 3.5mm to RCA cable and plug that into a T-amp like the Lepai and wire it to a single speaker. Unfortunately cheap speakers only come in pairs. Cheapest speakers are the CovoS and use one. I won't match the quality of the A2 but is small. If you want a dedicated center channel the cheapest one is the Mb42c the unit with the crossover is more than double the price.
The problem with SMSL stuff is they're built as cheaply as possible and you get very little of the advertised wattage without distortion. Basically take anything they make and halve the power, that's what's actually usable.
Don't get me wrong, for budget amps they're fine. But for people looking for a quality setup, it's worth spending the extra money.
If room is an issue this AudioSource amp is pretty low profile and sounds really good https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZSEFU94/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZqYLzbYB7JBRC
For a little more money this Emotiva unit is an absolute monster and still very compact https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XSCCRDH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_huYLzbMFC4ASF
As for adding a subwoofer, most will do either line in or pass through over the speaker cables. Really depends on which one you get.
I recently bought a pair of [Fluance SX6] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IEDL8EM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and a [SMSL SA50] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A2QLGEQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for my office and I love it! They're large though, 9.1 x 13.5 x 8.3 in.
I appreciate the input. This is what I'm probably going to do, but with this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Adapter-Windows-AU-MMSA/dp/B00IRVQ0F8/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473607715&sr=1-3&keywords=usb+sound+card
Accomplishes the same thing, right?
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=16150 comes back in stock 2/23. Then purchase zeos recommended pads to fit. (50 or so for both)(rewatch monoprice retros review for pad name)
https://www.amazon.com/Micca-OriGen-G2-Resolution-Preamplifier/dp/B01N14SY65 110 for Micca Origen G2, also gives ability to line out for speakers in the future.
Is an amp needed in that price?
Look into either of thede speakers:

That's about as good of a low budget system as possible, while still being a foray into hobby/enthusiast audio equipment. Unless you want to look into used stuff. Going use can get you a really good set up for price but take more work to find but is hard to recommend.
Soundblaster E5. Love mine.

If I was looking for gaming primarily, I think this thing is great from a functionality/quality/usability standpoint vs. a music oriented DAC/AMP.

Stereo RCA to TRS. XLR offers no benefit without a balanced output, so you might as well use 1/4". I use a Hosa brand 3.5mm to TRS on my LSR305's and their quality is top notch for this price.
Thanks a bunch! I’ve heard that the pads are sometimes glued on, is that still the case or will that not be an issue? This is the link I’d be buying from: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9p3GDbP48CRCE
I have the E5 which I actually enjoy a lot. I think it sounds better than my FiiO e10k with most cans. There's noticeable degradation of sound quality switching from USB data mode to Bluetooth but that's the sacrifice you make for portability. It drives most headphones well, with the except of some of the more power hungry pairs. The monolith M1060s in particular don't sound very good with this DAC.
I got these for my JBL LSR 305's. I like them cause u can tilt the speakers and the clamp holds them down.

i think you should go back to your roots and review the Micca Origen G2.

Maybe you could instead get a optical splitter and a SMSL SD793-II. So then you can run your source into the splitter, then split 1 goes to your speaker amp+DAC, and split 2 goes to your headphone amp+DAC.

or lepia and review
You should not do option B since they will need some space behind them to disperse the bass. I think these stands would work for you.

https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-1000-Gaming-Audio-Amplifier/dp/B01LDTP484 Review this only for gaming and maybe compare it to the $15 dolby atmos for headphones you can buy through windows 10 creators pack, it is a 30 day trial so you dont have to buy it.
Vmoda boom pro
I'd suggest the Vmoda LP2's or Sennheiser Momentum 1.0 (around ear) given your budget.

I have no clue how these sound but they are cheap for an electrostatic headphone with a energiser: https://www.amazon.com/Koss-FBA_160416-ESP-950-Electrostatic-Stereophone/dp/B000056ULH
An option:
Fidelio X2HR + VModa BoomPro + Prodigy Cube.
I also happened to notice this Scarlett 2i2 package while digging around. Don't ask me about the headphones or mic that's included with it; I have no idea. But having the 2i2 would give you some options for other mics and headphones.
No, they have been around since 1990. Their ESP line (electrostatic line) has been around since the late 1960's.
