I have just a 3DSXL, I'm trying to wait for the white version for the New 3DSLL to come to NA :)

It looks like they are starting to discontinue the older 3DS covers, I got mine for $18. There are other patterns available if you search Nyan Cyber 3DS for both the older and newer version on Amazon! Hope that helps!
With the cards, you can invite more villagers to a home and they will roam around and they can be part of the photos you take. It's a nice little feature that makes the cards a bit worth it.
