Electronic hearing protection will not only amplify your surroundings so that you can hear your game better but it'll prevent hearing damage.

Howard Leights are great, you can get gel cups for them for more comfort and better sealing. The HL's often dip below $40, but even at $50 they're a great buy.

I personally use MSA Sordin Supreme Pro X's and 3M ComtacIII's depending on the occasion. They're both pretty great. The MSA's amplify a little more than the ComtacIII's, but they cut off all volume during gunfire. The ComtacIII's don't amplify as much, but have slightly better directional awareness and are perfect for communicating during gunfire since they reduce the volume instead of completely shutting it off.

I have owned and used the Trijicon LED ACOG and I have also used (but not owned) the tritium ACOG during my time in the USMC.

I have never owned a VCOG but I hear they are as good as, if not a little better than, the Vortex. However keep in mind that you are paying $900 more for literally no gain in performance. Both the Vortex and VCOG are 1-6 variable and are similarly weighted.

The VCOG is more durable than the Vortex, however Vortex has an expansive lifetime warranty. If it breaks during normal use they will fix it or replace it. Trijicon has a 5 year warranty on the VCOG for internal electronics, and a "limited lifetime" warranty for material and workmanship.

The VCOG is LED (no tritium) and works off a single AA battery. The Vortex is also LED and is powered off a common watch/camera battery, a CR2032 battery. The CR2032 is a bit harder to come by but you can buy a huge pack of them off Amazon and never have to worry about having a spare.

Last thing is that the magnification adjustment knob on the VCOG comes with "throw lever", which helps in rotating the knob. The Vortex doesn't have that. People who buy the Vortex usually get the "throw lever" to help adjust the knob, as it can be difficult to turn.

Lastly, if you aren't sure about variable powered optics, just get yourself a Vortex Strike Eagle. It's the Viper HD's cheaper cousin. It's also a 1-6x variable power scope, weighs 17 oz, and only costs $300. The glass isn't as "clear" and the reticule is messier than the Viper HD, but it'll give you a good feel of what the Viper HD is like. If you're unsure, start with the Strike Eagle, see if you like it (or don't) and move on from there. At worst you now have a nice Strike Eagle that you can sell to any of your friends with ARs (they have been selling like hotcakes). At best you'll keep the Strike Eagle and put it on your wife's/kids/friends AR build.

P.S. If you get the Vortex scopes keep in mind they don't come with mounts. Be prepared to buy a 30mm tube mount, like the LaRue cantilever mount. The LaRue is a higher end "quick detach" mount, there are cheaper options available.

> I'm looking for a good cleaning kit and set of tools for this gun.

For a starter kit, i'd recommend something like this setup:

  • Otis Cleaning Kit
  • 6" Q-Tips - Great for the hard to reach spots a regular short Q-Tip can't reach.
  • TekMat - Only cleaning mat brand i'll go with, durable, and solid for the price.
  • CLP - Whatever you prefer, everyone has something they like/prefer. For now, i've been using RandCLP to clean my guns for the last year, and some ALG Go-Juice as my lube.
  • Brushes - I don't use these as often as some do, most use them for stuff like scrubbing their BCG's. I only clean my AR's after a high round count, so i use mine maybe once a month when i clean my regular phosphate BCG's.
  • Shop Towels - I use the shit out of these. After shooting suppressed i gave up on being real anal-retentive about cleaning, so i just wipe down parts (BCG, uppers, CH, etc) with a shop towel and re-lube where needed. I only do a detailed cleaning maybe 1-2 a year.
  • AR Tool - Despite Tapco stuff usually being Chinese junk, their AR tool is pretty tip-top, i've had it for about 3.5 years now and used it a lot, it's held up wonderfully.

I use a kit i put together myself for cleaning my handguns, rifles, shotgun, etc, for cleaning. My guns get cleaned differently, which gun it is dictates how it'll get clean and how often.

I bought a Bushnell 1-4x-24mm as a gift for a friend who had no optic. It was "OK" for the $101 (after spring rebate) but the distortion is noticeable around the edge and the reticle is too thick for my tastes. It was better than nothing, but if it were my gun, I'd save up a few more dollars.

In the similar boat, I bought for myself, an Athlon Argos 1-4x for a specific build and I'm about 95% happy with it. The only knock on it is the illumination is kinda useless in daylight, its simply not bright enough. The glass is excellent, the form factor is short, the turrets are repeatable and the reticle is FFP and useable. Its got a pretty forgiving eye relief.

My current favorite inexpensive scope currently is the Primary Arms 4-14x mildot scope. That exceeded all my expectations, especially for the pricepoint. That one, is far beyond your 1-4x criteria however, in terms of magnification, but I just can't see getting anything lower than the PA scope. Hold out for a labor day sale or something, I got the PA scope package with butler creek caps, Burris PEPR mount and scope for $229 shipped during their Memorial Day sale. Not suggesting there's going to be an equal sale on Labor Day, but might as well wait a couple weeks....

As far as budget low, variable magnification optics at or under $200:

I have used the the v-plex version of the Crossfire. I use a lot of Vortex, from this up to the Viper and long-range stuff and am happy with them.

That said, for under $200 the Weaver V3 has the best glass (made in Japan) and is the lightest and most compact. It seems to have the closest to a true 1x of the scopes as well. And the Bushnell PCL FFP 1-4 is the most feature rich and has similar if not better glass to the Crossfire for under $200. It is FFP, illuminated, but heavy. I'd go with either of those over the Crossfire. But they are good scopes for the money and you get the fantastic Vortex Warranty.

Any of the above scopes would likely be a better option than the Primary Arms 1-4 (which would be better than anything from the avoid always NCStar,Barska, etc.) but the Primary Arms 1-6 or Vortex Strike Eagle will both be a potential step up and are excellent for the money and have solid companies behind them. But they are in the $250-300 range.

In your price-range I'd just get the Weaver V3. Simple, light, good glass, and inexpensive.

Comes with what you see here! I planned to put together an AR slowly this year, but I started my first build literally on the eve of the Pulse shooting. Needless to say, I accelerated my plans a bit. Ended up with a pretty fancy AR; nothing terribly extravagant about it, but with it being my first experience, I'm really pleased with the fit and feel. Have yet to bring it out to the range, but I'm looking to fix that on this most patriotic of weekends. But here's the build notes!

u/_hester_ · 1 pointr/ar15

After about 25 years of not owning anything except a bolt-action rifle and a breach-loading shotgun, I jumped into the AR-15 world nearly two years ago, and now I'm well-and-truly hooked. I'm still a huge nub, so don't take my advice too seriously.

There's a lot to learn just in one platform. But, don't let that keep you from getting both an AR and an AK.

Learning AKs feels overwhelming for completely different reasons than ARs. That said, I am always impressed with how well my AK performs, and how comfortable it is to shoot.

If you haven't already, head over to /r/ak47 and check out the buyer's guide so you don't make a big mistake early on. The oft recommended WASR 10 is considered the best starter AK for the money. Lurk /r/gundeals for a shot at getting one on sale; they've been seen for less than $550 recently which is better than they were pre-election.

I do have to caution you: Accessories and customization for an AK is a completely different game than ARs. You might find that your "cheap plinker" rifle ends up costing you more to trick out, resulting in the same net cost-of-ownership as an AR shooting slightly more expensive ammo. If you end up happy with a stock AK, though, it's a great investment, and a welcome break from sending .22 cal downrange.

All that said, I think if you're picking a semi-auto purely on the basis of budget and having fun hitting targets, this is what I would highly recommend (after wasting a lot of money on stuff I didn't like):

u/MisterNoisy · 2 pointsr/ar15

If you want a good budget fixed magnification optic, I really like Primary Arms stuff - their prism scopes run around $250-300 and are tough as nails with clever BDC/ranging reticles and pretty good glass.

For budget red dots I like PA, Holosun and Vortex.

If you're just looking for a decent cheap RDS that'll get you shooting and hold zero, the Bushnell TRS-25 can be had for $50 or so and will serve just fine. Add a UTG riser (absolute cowitness / lower 1/3 cowitness) for under $10 and you're in business.

u/Prizz419 · 3 pointsr/ar15

Palmetto State Armory is your friend. $400 you can have a functional rifle.

As far as optics go, you have some options. I really like Primary Arms and Vortex. The PA 1-6x ACSS goes for $289 and is a fantastic scope for the money. Primary Arms 1-6X24mm SFP Riflescope with Patented ACSS 5.56 / 5.45 / .308 Reticle Gen III - PA1-6X24SFP-ACSS-5.56

If you want a fixed 3x scope like an ACOG, PA also has you there. Primary Arms 3X Compact Rifle Scope - ACSS 7.62 X 39 / 300 BO Reticle PAC3X300BO

Red dots are your fancy, Vortex is solid Vortex Optics StrikeFire 2 Red/Green Dot Sight with Cantilever Mount (SF-RG-501) and FREE Vortex Lens Pen

Want a cheaper red dot that’s still good? Bushnell Optics TRS-25 Hirise 1x 25mm Red Dot Riflescope with Riser Block, Matte Black

u/sellurpickles · 4 pointsr/ar15

Bulldog Cases "Ultra Compact" AR-15 Discreet Carry Case in Navy (29-inch)

I use this to haul around my Colt AR15A4 with an ACOG on top. It's a tight fit, but it definitely fits. It also doesn't scream tactical which I like. Couple mags, ear plugs and glasses all fit in it with the rifle. Hope this helps.

u/unquietmammal · 3 pointsr/ar15

Primary Arm ACSS $289

Primary Arms are good if you like the reticle, I used to own one and I enjoyed it but I upgraded and I honestly can't recommend the Primary Arms unless you love the reticle or want the extra 2x magnification. I can see better with the 4x Leupold than the Primary Arms at 6x. Glass quality is just stupidly better.

Bushnell BTR-1 $199

Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 $300

Leupold Mark AR 1-4 Firedot $395
Seriously a Leupold for $400. AR Ballistic Turrets instead of caps. Firedot Reticle That you will be able to trade off when you get the money to upgrade. The Precision at Range is a bit crazy if you dial your elevation, especially compared to the ACSS

Leupold Mark Ar Duplex $289

Burris MTAC $325

Vortex Viper PST 1-4 $400

SWFA SS 1-4 $400

Steiner P4Xi $500

u/Sweet-And-Sauer · 1 pointr/ar15

If you want an unmagnified optic, like a red dot, and have an astigmatism, you may wanna take a look at prism optics such as this vortex spitfire

I'm sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere, but it's a 1x optic with an etched reticle, as opposed to the projected red dot sights. I have an astigmatism and I just deal with the little bit of starburst on standard red dots, but the prism optic above may be a good choice for you.

If you want to test out a cheap red dot option to see if it's okay for you, I'd recommend the Bushnell trs-25 as it's one of the better low-cost red dots. And if you don't like it, just return it.

u/Triactin · 1 pointr/ar15

I recommend this red dot for a good, cheap optic. It's great for getting a taste of what a more expensive micro red dot will be like.

You will want to buy a riser for it as well. The whole setup will run you <$30 if you have amazon prime.

u/egonpax · 2 pointsr/ar15

If you want that SF (I love Surefire stuff for sure) then that's great.

If you want to save a few bucks check out:
Streamlight Railmount 2L 650 Lumens Rifle Light

I'm going to pick one of these up soon for my current build.

u/artyomivich · 3 pointsr/ar15

Here you go:

Red Dot

Weapon Light

Light Mount

If you're trusting your life to a budget red dot that is the way to go, 50,000 hours of battery life so you never have to turn it off.
I've heard good things about that light as well and own a TLR myself (made by the same company) and its great, that mounting option attaches directly to the front sight post so you don't need a new hand guard, if you do want a quad rail though I recommend this, I have an MI quad rail on my rifle and its rock solid.

u/RallyMech · 1 pointr/ar15

Check out /r/gunsforsale and /r/gundeals (May your wallet rest in peace). Here's a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot for $49 You will need this riser. Buy that before buying BUIS.

That rifle may or may not be worth $500. MI uppers are usually decent.

For .223/5.56 $0.30 per round is generally a good price for brass case ammo. Walmart and some other stores sell steel case for as low as $0.20/round, quality varies. The best cheap ammo is Wolf Gold, purchased in bulk online. Use to find it.

Keep an eye on Palmetto State Armory's website. They include PMAGs with tons of deals, effectively using them as packing peanuts. Use a prepaid credit card or for buying from PSA due to ongoing, infrequent, credit card theft.

u/Trochlea · 2 pointsr/ar15

if you want to build it - link there also upgraded versions with better stocks/pistol grips etc.

If you don't want to build it - link ps this looks like a pretty rocking build.

With that complete lower and this upper (note this one has a bcg and charging handle) you are at 550. That should save you enough cash to buy iron sights or a budget red dot like bushnell or primary arms. does that fit your budget?

u/canadafolyfedawg · 1 pointr/ar15

If you have issues with that or want to try out something else pick up one of these and a riser for it

704 tactical did a review of it and i thought it was too good to be true so i ordered it and its surprisingly really good for what it is. If you ever want to get something more expensive but not break the bank, vortex, primary arms and holosun have great options

u/redrider1025 · 2 pointsr/ar15

I have the Bushnell. Its just above your price range, but I'm really happy with it.

Bushnell Optics FFP Illuminated BTR-1 BDC Reticle Riflescope with Target Turrets and Throw Down PCL, 1-4x 24mm

And you need to buy rings too. So price ends up being around $300.

On my rifle.

Like the others said, for under $200 I'd go with some decent iron sites though. Can never go wrong with that

u/GJempire11 · 1 pointr/ar15

I picked up the 42" Plano Tactical case on sale a Big5 last weekend. I really like it, but agree that a soft case is good unless you need the protection of a hard case. I like the soft case MidwayUSA has available for about $40 bucks.

Lots of Keymod accessories from all the retailers, such as here: Your handguard has keymod slots at multiple angles, so you can be creative.

In terms of optics, for a red dot optic Vortex makes some affordable ones (as mentioned previously) and they have a great warranty. Their Strikefire 2 is pretty popular:

As is their more compact Sparc AR:

An even more affordable decent red dot is the Bushnell TRS-25

For a magnified scope, there are the usual players such as Leupold, Nikon, Bushnell, Vortex, etc. Just depending on how much you want to spend and at what range you imagine shooting at. Take a look at the Vortex Strike Eagle or the Vortext Spit Fire for a magnified red dot.

There are also "combat" oriented ones, such as the EOTech or Trijicon ACOG, but they get pricey.

FYI Optics Planet has a HURRY75 $10 off $75 coupon going right now, until tomorrow.

u/sweatyjeff · 2 pointsr/ar15

A mandolin case will be better padded than a tennis bag. I have this and it fits my 14.5" AR with a Law Tactical folding stock which is about 26" long folded. It's pretty damn nice for the price. It's my go-to truck gun bag.

This case is also very nice for the price. The same rifle listed above fits in it very well folded up.

u/Number1AbeLincolnFan · 8 pointsr/ar15

This might be excessive, but I wanted to be thorough so you can see what all is out there. I am having trouble thinking of anything that the following tools can't do, in terms of AR building and maintenance. This is basically my setup at home, though some.of the brands and whatnot are different.

I am operating under the assumption that you already have some basic hand tools in addition to the torque wrench.

The only things you absolutely need are roll pin punches and an armorer's wrench and some basic hand tools like Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, needlenose pliers and so on. The rest just expedite the process and help solve weird issues that may come up.

UTG Medium riser from Amazon did the trick for mine fyi. Fit good, solid as well.

u/krab_kookies · 1 pointr/ar15

What muffs are you using? Are they the big, blown out kind? If they are then there's your main issue, big muffs that over cover your ears down to your cheeks will always make shooting uncomfortable. Like I said, get some different ear pro and try shooting then. There are various types of plugs that have very good hearing protection so you don't have to worry about going deaf; we use these at work and I'll swipe a couple pairs to shoot with, you really can't hear a thing with them properly inserted and work awesome when oper8ing.

I also use the Howard-Leight slim muffs and don't have any issues with them being bulky. They have volume control, an aux port and when turned off work like any other muffs, plus they're affordable.

u/hoegaarden81 · 2 pointsr/ar15

I got this in a primary arms premium mount and butler caps for around $200 shipped. It's more than good for what you need, and pretty much any similar optic that will be recommended will do you well.

u/CallMeNighthawk- · 2 pointsr/ar15

Streamlight railmount 2

The surefire scouts are nice but they're a rip off. I've used both, and have the streamlight on my rifle now. It's 625 lumens and comes with everything needed to mount it to a pic rail with a tape switch. The surefire doesn't come with a switch OR tail cap, they bang you for both of them separately

Pair that with the magpul offset mount which screws directly into the mounting hardware on the streamlight with two screws and mounts directly to your mlok rail and you have an awesome light for $120

Edit: tape switch not rape switch 👀

u/tausciam · 2 pointsr/ar15

Honestly, this is what I did: I found someone giving away a bathroom sink. I gratefully accepted the bathroom sink and threw the counter top away. Then, I went and got half a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood at home depot for about $15. I put it on top of the cabinet and screwed it down. Then, I had a $15 workbench. I got a cheap Yost LV-4 for $25 with Prime shipping from Amazon and had everything set up for $40

u/idiggplants · 2 pointsr/ar15

thats exactly what i did, and im happy with it. well, i used this mount instead...

i preferred the knob on mine a bit more. allows for easy no tool attachment.

u/hondalex · 1 pointr/ar15

I got [this one](UTG Medium Profile Riser Mount with 3 slots so I could co-witness my A2 front sight and it's pretty good. Much easier on the neck.

u/x5060 · 1 pointr/ar15

The best cheap hearing protection you can buy. Worth every penny. I own 3 sets and my brother in law and father have multiple sets after I showed them mine. They are actually capable of amplifying your hearing, then go silent when they hear a gunshot.

u/Sharkbaithoohaha004 · 3 pointsr/ar15

I would pass on that. For an extra 120 you can get a much nicer rifle. Buy that plus a cheap red dot like the trs25or iron sights and you be set with a sweet mid grade rifle. His rifle looks pretty stock aside from the cheap looking handguard and possibly an "enhanced" trigger.

u/Trollygag · 1 pointr/ar15

I'm a big fan of this optic or this one illuminated.

Simple, effective, usable, does what it is supposed to.

>I'd like it to be zeroed for 5.56

That statement doesn't make sense. Did you mean with a BDC reticle for 5.56? Both of the optics above have those.

u/OfficerPewPew · 1 pointr/ar15

I had it up on /r/gunsforsale but I have a Bushnell PCL (it's cheaper elsewhere, but just linking there for info). I'll sell for $170 shipped (shipping is typically $7 from Philly for that weight). PM me if you're interested.

Beyond that the PA optic linked above nice.

u/cy10n · 2 pointsr/ar15

I'm not trying to be a dick, Im just trying to clear up some innacuracies. The companies that you listed do not sell direct on amazon (they are not listed as the actual seller). They may be listed as the manufacturer, and have a product page, but you're buying the product from a third party, not magpul. I have reposted my response to another user that allows you to see the actual seller's of the MBUS Pro's.

On thing I did notice though was that AIM Surplus had a sellers account, so there are some reputable suppliers selling on amazon.

> These are the ones I was looking at as well, but if you look at the sellers, it doesnt appear that magpul is a seller for any of them, they are only listed as the manufacturer. You can view all the sellers here, or by clicking the link on the product page that says "NEW (10) from $159.95"

u/falkengun · 4 pointsr/ar15

The vortex Strike Eagle is highly reviewed, but I have not seen one in person. I do plan to purchase one at some point. It is slightly over your budget at ~$320, but I think it is something that you should take a look at.

Having said that Primary arms makes very good optics for the money also. I'm not trying to talk you out of the Primary Arms, just giving you more options to look at.

u/theerrlybird · 6 pointsr/ar15

Dagger Defense is re-branded Chinese stuff. Might work well might not.

Magpul sights These can be found cheaper and keep in mind Black Friday is coming up soon.

Bushnell Red Dot Not the best but holds zero and is great for the price.

Personally I would try to score a deal on quality sights on Black Friday or Cyber Monday

u/Sorveris · 10 pointsr/ar15

I realize this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but this is probably your best bet at this price point.

u/HighSpeedChase762 · 7 pointsr/ar15

u/calgun03 · 3 pointsr/ar15

It's not difficult, you just need the tools to pull your current handguard off and remove the barrel nut (because most handguards comes with their own proprietary barrel nut). Then you'll thread on your new barrel nut, tighten it down to roughly 30ftlbs, install the new handguard, and you're done.

You'll probably need an AR15 armorers wrench, anti-seize/grease of some sort (I like Loctite Anti-Seize, but some people have heartburns over what to use. Something is better than nothing), and a torque wrench. And probably also another inch-lb torque wrench.

As for the quality of the handguard, I've never used that one, so I can't speak for it.

u/KazarakOfKar · 3 pointsr/ar15

Here you go only surefire light I have. Someone convinced me it was the best. With the tape switch and the end cap it is more than $300.00.

All of my other rifles have this. The Streamlight product also includes the cap for the tape switch and the tape switch itself. The beam is not as focused at distance but considering most people are going to be in an HD situation at 25 yards and under for the price difference it is a fine light.

u/glutenfreetoast · 1 pointr/ar15

This lower is on sale

This upper or this one with BCG and charging handle.

Sights you can find these cheaper elsewhere, the standard MBUS are fine.

If you want a magnified optic (unless you really enjoy shooting irons or want to shoot more than 100-200 yards) this scope or this scope with either Burris PEPR or Aero Precision Ultralight mount if you want something is isn't fuckheavy. And yes, optics are expensive. You'll do fine with MBUS for a while but save up for an optic eventually.

Yes, headphones aren't ear protection. They don't adequately block harmful external noise. You can, however, get electronic hearing protection that include input jacks so you can protect your ears and listen to music (unless you have the new iPhone).

u/TheStuffle · 2 pointsr/ar15

I've been using the TRS-25 and it's been good. I've got it on a 1" riser for a lower 1/3 co-witness with my irons. I'm saving for a Vortex 1-4x but haven't felt like I needed a better sight yet. It's tolerated the recoil of a few hundred 12ga rounds and another couple hundred 5.56 and held zero just fine.

u/SchmidtytheKid · 3 pointsr/ar15

I really like my Bushnell. You can catch it on sale from time to time, but it's a good overall quality budget 1-4.

u/IAmInACubicle · 4 pointsr/ar15

This case is a Pelican knock off, and only $117. I've seen the Voodoo's just short of that. I don't specifically need/want either, it just seem to be what most people were using based on pictures I saw and some recommendations.

I live with just me my wife and some cats. I'm not really looking to keep someone out (like kids), just keeping it clean, safe, and out of the way, and would preferably double as transportation to and from the range.

Looks like I could get the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot Sight Riflescope, 1 x 25mm (tilted front lens) and UTG Hi-Profile Compact Riser Mount, 1" High, 3 Slots for ~$55 prime. Clearly doesn't break the bank. Would my next step up from there throw me in the $200 - $300 range?

u/upstageshrimp22 · 2 pointsr/ar15

"Function Testing" ?

I have no plans to get rid of it, the only reason I have am building this one is, I had a trade deal too good to pass up on(2 glocks 35-27 gen3 and gen4 both like new for my budget build [apx $600]). So with this build I have been trying to keep the quality of the parts I am using above the quality of the last one (Spikes lower rather than Anderson, magpul parts, rather than ATI, etc...). This is what I had on the last one and I like it, however a lot of the poeple I have talked to said they seem to like their holograpgic/red dot more as you can find your target in the sight faster, and for the distnaces I am looking at, there is no need for magnification/zoom.

u/est94 · 2 pointsr/ar15

I’m so happy I snagged it. Ideal scope for my extreme budget.

Edit: now it’s $110 on amazon, $140 on academy.

u/LongJohnColt · 1 pointr/ar15

Well, it's constantly sold at that price most places I've seen it. But yeah, it's not a bad price, it's just the price.

u/dubarubdubdub · 1 pointr/ar15

It is a Yost LV-4 and a cutting board from Ikea. I can't find it on their website but its raised about half an inch on two sides so it made mounting the vise really easy.

u/ThatDamnUmbreon · 2 pointsr/ar15

Very nice, except your optic is airsoft poop and needs replacing, your BUIS are poop (and the rear is backwards) and your front needs to be made for a lower gas block as the gas block on the DPMS is not in-line with the upper receiver rail.

However, barring that, I like the look you're going for. I'd recommend the Bushnell TRS-25 since it's widely accepted to be a good budget red dot and should look similar to what you have now, except able to properly co-witness with your BUIS. As for BUIS, make sure to find something that specifies it is for shorter gas blocks. If it doesn't say it is, then it isn't.
Happy shooting!

u/tylercreatesworlds · 0 pointsr/ar15

So I used my tax returns to purchase a complete upper and some accesories.

Bushmaster XM-15 E2S lower

SAA complete upper

15" ML5 MLOK rail

16" SAA 5.56 NATO 1:7 nitride M4 Barrel

Complete Nickel Boron BCG

Dragons Head muzzle brake/ linear comp Gen II

Magpul MBUS sights

Magpul MLOK hand stop

Magpul Buffer tube

MFT Battlelink Minimalist Stock

Houge pistol grip

I've got one of them custom engraved dust covers on the way as well. It says "Bona Nocte" on the inside. Which is Latin for "Good Night."

I've been looking at this scope

And possibly this trigger

There's a slight wobble between the upper and lower, any way to fix that? It's very slight, but I want it to feel rock solid.

u/Florida-Steve · 3 pointsr/ar15

On all three of mine I've got red dots zero'd at 50 yrds. I have to hold over some at 100 but I'm gonna switch to my AR-15 if I'm gonna be shooting that far or longer. I've got TRS-25's on 2 of them, and a FieldSport Micro Dot on the other that's almost identical, just a lot cheaper. The red dot works good for me in USPSA PCC division without being too bulky. I don't see the need for a $300+ optic on a range toy

u/wizang · 6 pointsr/ar15

People might shit on UTG but in this case its probably as good or better than your red dot so who cares, you're not going to be able to use it that low.

u/dqnx · 1 pointr/ar15

Bulldog Cases "Ultra Compact" AR-15 Discreet Carry Case in Navy (29-inch). I bought this one and am happy. It has slots to hold 2 30 round magazines.

It has 2 sides, which I use for each half of the receiver. Technically, you could 2 two taken down rifles.

u/Helevitia · 2 pointsr/ar15

haha, I was wondering if somebody would ask about that.

Here you go.

Also, they sell gun mats, too.

AR15 Mat.

I prefer the computer mat because it's huge! But that is the downside as well, takes up a lot of space.

u/tsd2 · 4 pointsr/ar15

TRS-25 for $50. You'll want to buy a riser for it, but if you aren't picky they can easily be found for $20 or less. or get the high-rise version for $88.

u/Bru7171 · 2 pointsr/ar15

Those are Bushnell TRS-25s on a UTG medium riser. But it looks like this one on Amazon already comes with a medium riser.

u/OMGorilla · 2 pointsr/ar15

They're really good. I can't stand BUIS that don't have elevation adjustment.

u/Cool_guy_85 · 1 pointr/ar15

I have this one for a 20" upper! It's a little tight but it fits, should work no problem for a 16". Also has pockets for two mags.

Bulldog Cases Ultra Compact-Inch Ar-15 Navy Discreet Carry Case (29-Inch)

I'm considering buying a second one. Good luck!

u/tjseals · 1 pointr/ar15

loctite blue and aeroshell 33ms for the barrel install, also great for installing a freefloat handguard and scope mounts.

Ive found luck with this punch set, although the 3/32 did bend a smidge when I was pounding the hell out of it when pinning my gas block. also a rollpin starter punch set is a nice addition.

u/ThatGuyWhoLied · 2 pointsr/ar15

Here's a Vortex Sparc and 10 PMAGS for $199.99.

Or a Vortex Strikefire 2 with 10 PMAGS for $179.

Or if you're looking for budget this Bushnell TRS-25 is a good option for sub $50.

u/Grimnaw · 1 pointr/ar15

Matech is an awesome sight, and it's what a lot of Marines are issued. Amazon doesn't have them in stock now, but I believe they're around 60 bucks or so.

u/xcraisx · 1 pointr/ar15

I like discrete cases, I have this one for simple range trips, if I'm bringing a pistol, multiple uppers or more then just the a single rifle, I use this one.

u/JamesDReddit · 2 pointsr/ar15 Cheapo. But seems to be a popular choice for mounting the trs25 . should co witness.

u/brent1987 · 1 pointr/ar15

Make sure to order a riser for the Bushnell sight so that it cowitnesses with your front sight. Most people that order from amazon recommend this one, but any riser that is approximately that height (0.83 inches) should work.

u/isprant · 1 pointr/ar15

Here's your culprit.

Amazon lists all prices from used to new and either from Amazon or third party sellers. Green Canyon Outfitters probably accidentally put that price.

u/ninjoe87 · 2 pointsr/ar15

Honestly I don't mind the low profile of it, call me weird, I guess.

This is the dot.

Still, I do plan on replacing it sometime soonish.

u/Snoogliebear · 0 pointsr/ar15

yeah I just bought a light for it I haven't chosen a sling yet though.

This is the light I bought

u/bbartokk · 3 pointsr/ar15

Going away from the least on Reddit...may I suggest the Matech rear sight. It allows for elevation adjustments which most other rear sights do not. You can find them cheaper on eBay (be wary of knockoffs) or sites like armslist.

u/The_Guardsman · 3 pointsr/ar15

This on a UTG riser. It was gifted to me for Christmas and I figured it fit the bill with the rest of the rifle.

u/psycho944 · 3 pointsr/ar15

Plano cases are what I meant. Walmart and Amazon have them on sale every once in a while.

Bought for $45 on sale from amazon

u/dbinkerd · 2 pointsr/ar15

It is something like this (not sure if it is the exact one, but similar enough).

u/turnoffable · 5 pointsr/ar15

I used a Medium rise, UTG mount via amazon for $11 (I have Amazon prime, so no shipping)

Is it "good", I don't know.. does it work, yes.. and it co-witnesses

u/someomega · 1 pointr/ar15

Yep. You can get them without the riser for $40 when they are on sale. You can then get a UTG Med-pro Compact Riser Mount (0.83" High) for $10 bucks and have a co-witnessed sight.

u/lanmansa · 2 pointsr/ar15

Any idea how it compares to the Primary Arms 1-4 or the Bushnell AR Optics 1-4? Or anything else you have to compare it against? The Crossfire II is at the top of my list actually along with those others I mentioned.

u/Shooter123456 · 1 pointr/ar15

Thats all well and good, but I am disagreeing with the statement "Any red/green red dot under 100$ isn't worth the money". There are certainly decent red dots under $100 and if you look around, you can find the TRS-25 for under $100. Exhibit A

u/t45457523 · 2 pointsr/ar15

Ive been using this one for a couple years and its held up well.

u/flighthaltWHAT · 2 pointsr/ar15

I run this same red dot on my AR, it was a .83 inch riser on Amazon and makes an absolute cowitness with my front sight post and MBUS rear sight. Heres the link to it:

u/ban_me_bro · 2 pointsr/ar15

$150 is still tough. maybe catch a deal on something like a Bushnell or a Nikon.

If you don't need a name brand, you can give Primary Arms a shot.

u/ryandapandahh · 3 pointsr/ar15

I just ordered my second Bushnell trs-25 for $69 from PSA they are a good red dot and I also ordered PSA aluminum BUIS for $69 I haven't heard anything about them on here but they were on sale so I figured I'd give them a try.

Bushnell Trophy Red Dot TRS-25 3 MOA Red Dot Reticle Riflescope, 1x25mm (Matte),Colors May Vary

u/wckdwabbit · 1 pointr/ar15

I have one of these:

I now use it mostly for my 11.5" SBR and 14" SBS as it can hold both of them at the same time (the SBS is a tight fit). But I have also used if for my 16" AR broken down with the upper on one side and the lower on the other.

It works, doesn't scream "rifle!" and has held up pretty well so far.

u/SmknJ · 2 pointsr/ar15

Trs 25 goes on sale at Amazon for under $40 about once a month. Watch r/gundeals.

u/dangercdv · 1 pointr/ar15

Any comments about This Bushnell for under $70, or This Sightmark also under 70?

u/dovk121 · 1 pointr/ar15

Check out the Bushnell red dot it's only $16 after rebate and is supposed to be decent

u/ProximusAlpha · 3 pointsr/ar15

Primary Arms MD-RGBII + Primary Arms Micro Dot Base Mount = ~$120

Sig Sauer Romeo5 (OOS online but sold in-store and can still be found for $129 online) = ~$120 - $129

Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 + .83 Height Riser = ~$64

You can also wait for the Memorial Day sales.

u/second_ary · 3 pointsr/ar15

the bushnell trs-25 is often on sale for less than 70

and you could probably put a dent into a streamlight tlr-1s

u/94291 · 1 pointr/ar15

It's a Plano

A step down from the Pelican brand but it's solidly built.

u/diagela · 1 pointr/ar15

yup, I did not get mine for quite that price. I paid $70 delivered for the last 42" case I bought. a 42" Pelican will run you $200 or so. If I ever have to fly with a rifle, I will invest in a Pelican. But for home to range and back, Plano is a-okay.

u/Candyman__87 · 3 pointsr/ar15
