I got this one on the recommendation of a coworker who drove across country with it, I have had it for a few months now and it seems perfect.

I had The Dashcam Store in Austin TX hard wire install it, they needed a special wiring kit and $100. It looks much better than the wire running around the car.
As for lights, get one of those forehead lights. They've gotten amazingly powerful with LED bulbs, and the better ones focus to a tight or wide beam. Costco has a 2- pack of these every so often for $20, but it appears that they're not selling them right now.
The state Capitol Building is near there and they offer free tours or you can just pick up a brochure and wander around on a self-guided tour.
There are BCycle bike rental stations all over downtown so you can extend your range over just walking. It is going to be hotter than hell so bring sunscreen and stay hydrated. A hat and an EnduraCool towel will help with the heat.
