When we brought our LO home from the hospital she slept in this rock n play. It was the only thing she would get a good nights sleep it. It is slightly inclined, which helped with her reflux and it also vibrates and rocks itself. The only downside was that we had to wean her from it. We did so at around 6 weeks. First we turned the vibrate off for a few nights. And then we turned the self rocking part off. And then we transitioned her into this pack n play. We never once used the attachments on the top. One of them is a newborn napper which baby should only sleep in during supervised naps (not overnight or while you are also sleeping) because it is not a hard surface. The other thing is a changing table. We set the bed part up to the raised setting and she is still sleeping in that at 11 weeks. We plan on using this until she can sit up/is more mobile. Once that happens we will either put the bed down to the lower setting or move her to her own room (whichever I am more comfortable with). They recommend that baby sleeps in the same room as you for 6 months. For naps, she still either sleeps on me or in her swing. I know a lot of people who's babies will only sleep in their swings even at night. Just don't go into it with any expectations because you have to follow baby's lead. You will do whatever you need to in order to get the most sleep. I would also HIGHLY recommend to get some swaddle sacks/pods. We use these ones and they have been a life saver. They help baby stay asleep by restricting their startle reflex. They also help them to stay more cozy and feel like they are being snuggled. Downside is you might have to wean from those also once baby is able to roll over in them (probably around 3-6months old). My LO is again 11 weeks, and she still sleeps swaddled, but I always leave her right arm out because she freaks out if she can't grab her ear while she is sleeping lol.

I hope this helped in any way! Please let me know if you have any other questions and good luck!

You are very welcome! I am also going to be having children while all of my friends are not even married yet... and I also live in the middle of nowhere! So I will be using La Leche League to make friends, for sure.

Their book The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is also a GREAT reference to have around.

Look for the book Breastfeeding Made Simple. It's very helpful.

I would suggest trying to find other ways to sooth the baby to wean him off the pacifier. Give him lots of skin to skin, have him in his diaper and your girlfriend shirtless and let him rest on her chest. Have her offer the breast to eat. When you are not doing skin to skin, do a nice tight swaddle. The swaddle recreates the womb and babies love it. Nipples can get sore from feeding. If feeding isn't hurting, everything should be okay. There could be an issue with the latch if she is having pain.

I don't really buy the sucking to hard part, but I'm not a lactation consultant. Which you should hire over a nurse. It will be worth the money, I think. Doctors and nurses aren't really lactation consultants and will probably end up telling you to supplement with formula.

A lactation consultant will come to your home and help you asses the problems then and there.

Some people worry if the baby is getting enough, remember, his stomach is only the size of a marble and he knows how much food he needs.

My advice is check out this book and hire a lactation consultant. It will be worth it in the long run.

You can also get some special moisturizers for her nipples to help with dryness or tenderness.

Can you wear him? My super bouncy guy likes a forward-facing carrier. I can do things with my hands free while he's in it. We have this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T4N2FY7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I know they sell those CDs like Baby Beethoven, Baby Bach, etc which I'm sure they selected specifically for the babies ease of grasping the melodies and also for relaxation. Even if you don't want to buy the CDs you can see what kinds of pieces they have selected and go from there.

Not for the older one, as ours is five months. Not sure about what temps you'll expect, but we love the Halo winter weight sleep sack for night time.

We use this for sleeping in the tent: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015ZK68LE/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_3JMHDb4N4ZE80

Congrats!! I really like these bibs. I removed the teether and attached a pacifier. Or I put my own teether.

If you can figure out why exactly your baby is crying, that can be a big help. My girlfriend and I could not for the life of us figure out what was making our daughter so upset. At first we thought nighttime was just her "fussy time", which it is for a lot of newborns. Then we read some more and realized that she had a lot of the symptoms of reflux. We adjusted some of our habits (rubbing her back instead of patting to burp her, keeping her upright during and after nursing, feeding her more slowly) and the difference was night-and-day.

For anyone with a baby that has a difficult time falling or staying asleep, I would highly recommend picking up Tracy Hogg's The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems. She goes over a lot of the bad habits parents pick up when trying to calm their newborns, and gives ideas on how to fix them.

We've also found Harvey Karp's The Happiest Baby on the Block to be very helpful. The "5 S's" method (swaddling, side/stomach positioning in the parents' arms, shushing, swinging, and sucking) worked well for our daughter.

Basically what all of the advice in the books boils down to is to read your baby's cues and fix the root of the problem, rather than attempt to patch it with short-term fixes. Sometimes you might think that you're helping, when really you're just developing bad parenting habits and reinforcing certain behaviors in your child. I was really surprised when reading those books how many bad habits we had picked up in just a few short weeks.

Oh I hope they're useful to you and your LO! I got them on Amazon they aren't the cheapest but they seem to last until toddler age.
