Babylon 5 Encyclopedia (Limited Signature Edition) is the perfect gift for a true fan. They are still available on Amazon. Not sure if they can be found anywhere else at this point. I got a my set back in May for my Birthday. It was a bit less costly (just under 200$) when mine was ordered by my wife.

I love it, it is the most comprehensive encyclopedia written from a Watsonian(Aka "in Universe") perspective. beautifully printed and bound. Definitely worth the cost for anyone who considers themselves a serious fan.

Watch the original pilot and TV movie "The Gathering." You can buy the double feature here, new (not from Amazon) for $5. It's the pilot you were meant to watch. Then you can get into the regular seasons. I know some people like to watch "In the Beginning" after season 4, but I prefer to wait until after season 5.

I'm sure there are other, less legal, ways to watch "The Gathering" online, and they are easy to find, but $5 isn't all that much for two movies. Good luck!

Yes, that's the first B5 DVD, the one with the Warner Brothers label on the back.

I just checked my copy, and I was wrong. It didn't get released in the mid 1990s, it was released in 2001.

ISBN 0-7907-6076-2 is the ISBN; it's the first edition, and it's what aired in 1993, warts and all. 4:3 aspect ratio, Dolby Stereo (5:1? What's that?), and DVD "extras" of "Scene Selections" and "Cast and Crew" snapshots.

Ah, the early days of DVDs, I remember them well, if not fondly.

I see in a thread here that some people bought the same disk, or at least the same packaging, and got the TNT special edition. I dragged out my USB DVD player to check, and yes, I remembered correctly. Mine is the original airing, Stewart Copeland music and all.

The PTen version runs 1:29:24, the TNT Special Edition from the Movie Collection is 1:34:42.

Here's the title card from the DVD menu.

I should mention that I'm in Canada, and I bought this thing in the store pretty much the week it came out, so I know it's definitely from one of the initial print runs. I guess we got the international edition.

If you like the show, I recommend you check out the book series it's based on, by James S.A. Corey. The first book is Leviathan Wakes.

The show looks like it will be good. The books have already proven themselves to be good.

Anyone who wants to know more about the Icarus, Morden's backstory and his relationship with Anna Sheridan owes it to themselves to read The Shadow Within. There's a lot of amazing detail in there, and a big piece on that necklace that Morden can always be seen wearing. Of all the B5 books it's also one of the best written.

Yeah, it's a cool site.

There are actually several good sources for used books out there aside from Amazon/eBay. Wikipedia has a special page that lists most of them. The Wikipedia page actually embeds the ISBN number of the book in each site link, so all you need to do is click once per site that you want to search.

Of the sites listed, Alibris is my go-to. One of the other large sites in the list, Abebooks, is now owned by Amazon.

I agree, but on the other hand, the 3 Crusade books, "Other Voices" and "Behind the scenes" were on print on demand for months now, without any announcement from B5Books, i know someone who ordered them on Amazon, and they were legit.

Same for a paperback edition of the B5 Encyclopedia that was never officially announced. Link :

I can't say I know, but I am just assuming they are cheaper packaging than the original. I have all the originals and they are a normal box set. These seem to be more compact. If you would like to spend more there is always and option out there for you.

There is a trilogy of books covering the telepaths in Babylon 5. The first book covers the emergence of telepaths right around the time of Earth's first contact with alien life, and how they are dealt with before the invention of the Psi-Corps.

The second book shows the life of Bester growing up in the Psi-Corps and going out into the field as a Psi-cop.

The third book covers Bester's life post-Babylon 5.

If you haven't read these, try to find them, as they are a great addition to the series.

*Edit: Amazon link to the first book in the trilogy.

"Faith Manages" is the core book.

That said, I have a deep dislike of the d20 system. I got into the White Wolf d10 system back in the day and played everything with that. I would use whatever system you like.

u/kraetos · 15 pointsr/babylon5

It is not. 480p DVD is the best available version. Amazon Prime has it streaming, but its a low-quality transfer with some strange cropping and color grading.

In case you didn't know, there is an official B5 cook book. I believe it has Garibaldi's recipe in it.

I thought I remembered an actual B5 cookbook

Nope, it's not just you. I'm just repurchased 39 disks from amazon ( https://www.amazon.com/Babylon-Complete-Collection-Bonus-Crusade/dp/B00COTLTUA/ ) and am noticing a lot of similarities between B5 and 2018. On a related note, check out episode 203 ( http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/guide/025.html ) where "Every five years, the Drazi people divide by random selection into two equal groups, green and purple, and fight for supremacy in a contest that lasts a full year. " This sounds an awful like the political divide in North America today.

The Shadow Within

Synopsis:

The Darkening Light

Anna Sheridan has two passions-- her husband, John, and the mystery surrounding some intriguing artifacts found during a mission on a distant planet called Z'Ha'dum. Now she gets orders to become the science officer on the follow-up mission scheduled for the spaceship Icarus. Happy, young, beloved, and brilliant, never has a woman had so much to live for. Or so much to lose.

The Shadow Within

While John, recently promoted to the rank of captain, struggles with his new command on the Agamemnon, Anna begins to assemble her science crew... and makes her first mistake. She signs on Dr. Morden, a highly credentialed translator whose heart hides a weakness that can cost Anna her life... or her soul. Her second mistake is to underestimate the danger on Z'ha'dum. What is awaiting the Icarus near the rim of known space is an unimaginable horror. What is awaiting Anna Sheridan is an explosive destiny... and a dark future that can crush her husband's dreams and a terror that can come back to haunt us all.

One of the two B5 books I've read, and it was great.

Who?

Vir?

Short answer: space magic.

Long answer: https://www.amazon.com/Legions-Fire-Babylon-Centauri-Trilogy/dp/0739414852/ref=sr_1_11?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1541375193&sr=1-11&keywords=babylon+5

tl;dr

>! That bald technomage from Crusade took them away, after some Drakh blew some (as seen in 'War Without End' and 'In The Beginning'). AKA space magic.
