It reminds me a lot of the "Americamanga" craze that was going on in the 2000's. Americans attempting to draw manga and getting their stuff published, you had a lot of manga style artwork that just looked off.
It reminds me a lot of the "Christopher Hart" style artwork that you would always see in those how to draw manga books you find in the library and in book stores.
