As Duhherrooo already said, a straight handle knife is better. I have a squiddy and a triton but I also have a cheap amazon knife and I actually use it quite often. It's super cheap and pretty ok so if you want to get in to balisong flipping a little more i think you should buy one. Its the knife @bfn_jin uses and its often referred to as a bonelisong.

Wow, that was lengthy, thanks for the review! I noticed the Nano oil looks exactly like the TUF-Glide I use, I wonder if it's just rebranded. I'm able to tighten down the pivots on my AB as tight as I can with the TUF Glide, and it still swings freely. I might try out froglube though, I like that you don't need to apply it for a long time after the first initial time.

I use Hoppe's #9 Lubricating Oil. I really enjoy it for it's applicator which is really thin and precise and does not spill even if you tip it over. One downside is that it's easy to break off.

I would stay away from WD40. It works just fine, but it attracts dirt easily. Also, stay away from olive oil LOL.

This trainer is still one I use when I can't take a balisong somewhere. It's insanely durable, just like a BBBarfly, but doesn't have insanely large handles and isn't louder than a semitruck. With a little sanding the handles are quite comfortable as well.

Popular brands are Nano Oil 10wt,Militec-1,Benchmade Blue lube,Hoppe's No. 9,KPL Knife Pivot Lube,3-in-1 oil,and Tuff Glide dry lubricantjust to name a few in no particular order. I personally like Nano-oil the best but have been hearing really good things about KPL.

Cheap and easy is the Lansky system from Amazon. $32 and you can repair (reset a bevel) and simply sharpen a blade easily. You can get the 3 stone one for $25 but 2 extra grits for $7 extra is worth it. Just follow the short instructions and you'll be good to go.

I'm completely new to this, and I would love your opinions on what trainer I should start with. I'm looking at these three:

  1. Butterfly Knife Trainer Practice Comb No Offensive Blade Black,by Moon Boat

  2. Bear & Son Cutlery 114TR Vein Butterfly Trainer Knife, 5", Silver

  3. Icetek Sports 44477 Metal Practice Balisong Butterfly Knife Trainer, Blue

Or if you know of a better one to get, I'd love to hear it.

If i flip heavy its at least once a week, normally i can tell when my bali needs more lube. I'm a big fan of Hoppe's 9 lubricating oil, you can get a 15ml bottle with a nice applicator tip for like $8 on amazon.

Here is the link if you want it

Probably. could be wrong though. Regardless it's pretty cheap.

Here is a relatively cheap supply list:

Loctite Blue 242:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000I1RSNS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9tS9yb9QJHK9R

Nano-Oil 10 weight:

Torques:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LQEUJ0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_yvS9ybNJ3JZ9A

There are probably better torques but l think these will work. I have a $45 set so I didn't think that is really cheap lol

I got this one for about 10$, it's honestly the best one I found on amazonUK

but I'm trying to get a squidy, everyone here recommends it, and it's only 42$

u/st3500 · 1 pointr/balisong

You'll be better off buying a good driver in that case, especially for T6. I have this one and it's served me well. For T8/T10 screws it's not as much of an issue since they don't strip as easily.

u/Duhherroooo · 3 pointsr/balisong

Dont get a CCC with screws. Those are even less durable than the pinned construction ones and have cheap hardware that strips. You can either get a bbbarfly or the dragon trainer here https://www.amazon.com/VORNNEX-Practice-Butterfly-Stainless-Unsharpened/dp/B06XRCGCV8/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=balisong+trainer&qid=1556557363&s=gateway&sr=8-3

They are pinned, but I can guarantee you will hold up way better than any screw construction trainer under $40

I use a Pelican 1170 with pick n pluck foam. Most of the other similarly sized cases like the 1150 and 1200 are a lot taller than they need to be, the 1170 is the slimmest of the cases outside of the laptop and micro cases, while also being wide enough to fit 10 balis per layer.

So currently I've been using an Icetek Dragon Trainer. It's not that great and I'm looking for a replacement. I was wondering what the best trainer for at most $50 would be? And yes I have read the buying guide in the sidebar, but it seems quite old and was wondering if there were newer things out now?

u/itsJustYvonne · 1 pointr/balisong

Have u tried this one ?
How is it? Would u still recommend ur $10 one?

u/PinheadLarry2323 · 1 pointr/balisong

Yep, you won't be disappointed. Don't listen to the guys on here who are too closed-minded to try anything new. Here is a link to the exact ones I have

u/-SeaPig- · 5 pointsr/balisong

OP's case looks like an 1170 to me.

It's the Wiha torx set, recommended by someone on here. So yeah, one of the screws are stripped, and I can't put tighten the other ones back now, as it seems to just keep spinning.

u/Its_Blazertron · 2 pointsr/balisong

I bought a Cheap (£10) balisong trainer from amazon this one And after a few hours, the bite handle keeps going completely stiff, sometimes 5 minutes of wiggling it, it will go back to normal for a few minutes. I though this would last at least a few weeks without screwing up, not a few hours. Is there anything I could do? Maybe squirt some WD-40 in their? It has no screws though, so I doubt it could do any good. I don't wanna have to spend $100+ on something just so it lasts a long time, I've literally been flipping for a few hours max.

u/ilykeurface · 1 pointr/balisong

Not necessarily

Get this and you should be able to do some basic maintenance. Also check our wiki page listed in the sidebar for the "Basic Maintenance" page on how to do certain things. Not listed in there is /u/crazymutherfucker 's video on how to apply loctite.

u/vexis170 · 1 pointr/balisong

only took 45 mins to get it to where it can cut regular letter paper ;_;

The existing grind was pretty asymmetric so that added a lot to the time. Im thinking of picking up some of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008EKY5OA/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ive heard good things about them.

So far the stones have been doing a good job on my edc folders (vg10 and sandvik 14c28n) but no knife i own has ever been this blunt :/

This is the one I bought. My friend bought the same type and the only trouble he's had is loose tang pins

I made a mistake with the weight, it’s 9.6 ounces not 9.3 ounces. If you want to see for yourself here’s the link.
