The link posted already is solid. I also bought a set of 3, but actually I've found that if you only want to buy just one to start then you can get this one which is 10 dollars and has wider teeth on one side and finer teeth on the other half. Originally I didn't like the design but it is actually super functional because I can use the fine side for stache top lip and maybe even side burns. And use the wider part for the first passes through the sides. Plus the small mustache comb in the 3 pack is good, but it's much too small to be practical for me because I can only use it on my stache so I don't really need it.
All of the Kent combs are awesome, and if you have a longer beard then this portable comb or this rake comb will get deeper into your beard.

Honestly you can't really go wrong with Kent because even the fine toothed combs glide through my curly beard super easily especially when it's wet and/or has oil or balm in it.

I got this trimmer. It's decent but my beard is over an inch in length so I ordered a Wahl Elite Pro here. Hopefully it will work out well.

I see that there is a Philips Norelco All-in-one device. Frankly, I'd rather have a great shaver and a great clipper instead of one good combo.

Remington MB-200 Titanium Mustache and Beard Trimmer

I have a slightly older model and the battery is starting to let go, but it's the best beard and mustache trimmer that I've used. Cheap, simple, and titanium blades (that won't dull with proper care!) makes it the perfect trimmer.

u/Dr_Cheese_MD · 3 pointsr/beards

I usually trim the cheeks and neck areas with an electric trimmer with a 1 inch comb attachment. I like my chin a big bigger, so I tackle that just scissors. Deciding to keep my moustache was the best decision I've ever made. I live by this moustache wax now http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004E9EV2G/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use a regular razor blade to clean up the scruff on the top of my cheeks and the very bottom of my neck line, I get stragglers in those areas that don"t blend well with the rest.

A great beard takes patience, especially through your 20s. If you're from western European descent, a patchwork beard is typically a fact of life -- that is until it grows out and you can sort of let the length fill in places ( to the right and left of the lip in particular ). You can get a long way on confidence alone, but be mindful of appearance in a professional situation; I make a habit of shaving before interviews/new jobs if my beard hasn't fully grow in. Might as well go ahead and invest in a great set of clippers too. I suggest the PEANUT

This is what I use:
https://www.amazon.com/Simply-Great-Beard-Oil-Conditioner/dp/B01L2MSOFM/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1503523012&sr=8-1&keywords=simply+beard+oil+viking

And I have a boar brush. And to be honest... to keep things in place i just use what I use in my hair:
https://www.amazon.com/American-Fiber-Pliable-Molding-Ounces/dp/B0007CXWC4/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1503523061&sr=1-1&keywords=american+crew+fiber

I'm sure there's better stuff, but my beard is kinda' stiff and I am not in an area with lots of options. So let me know if you find something better! :)

I know this is an old thread, but I saw your question never really got answered.

Carrier oil, the oil that makes up the majority of your mix, can probably be found your local health food store, organic grocery, hippie/smoke shop or maybe even Fred Meyer. You can also get essential oils from the same places. They're the oil that puts off the smell, and they can have benefits in themselves.

Or honestly you can order everything you need from Amazon.

Jojoba oil (carrier oil):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00GJX58PE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?qid=1464522016&sr=8-1&keywords=jojoba+oil&pi=SY200_QL40

Cederwood oil (essential oil):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000MGWIMK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?qid=1464522084&sr=8-1&keywords=cedarwood+oil&pi=SY200_QL40

Tea tree oil (essential oil):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0014UFXCA/ref=mp_s_a_1_11_a_it?qid=1464522236&sr=8-11&keywords=tea+tree+oil

Start with an ounce (30ml) of jojoba oil, add the tea tree and cederwood oils in one drop each at a time.

This should get you started, from here it's just about experimenting and figuring out what you like

The secret to all of my Santa bearded wonder lies here...This stuff is great. One bottle has gotten me about five or six uses out of it. Easy to put on, easy to wash out. It is a stage makeup, suggested to me by a friend.

https://www.amazon.com/Mehron-WHITE-Professional-Washable-Theatrical/dp/B018HF794E/ref=sr_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1481225942&sr=8-8&keywords=white+stage+makeup

My husband uses a co-wash on his. It is a product traditionally meant for curly hair but he started using it on his beard and loves it! Here is a link to what we use. The smell is very neutral too not fruity or flowery just clean smelling.

u/Shinobi558 · 1 pointr/beards

No worries here! It feels awesome to be a beardspiration :). Your haircut looks pretty similar to mine, it's honestly looking great, I'd just grow the top a bit more.

The longest strands on my hair are in the front and are about 5 inches long. The hair in the back is about 4. So it's pretty consistent in length for the most part.

For product, I use a dab of mousse, a small amount of holding gel, and a bit of hairspray. I do make sure to wash and blowdry my hair before applying any product. Takes about 20 mins in the morning along with a shower, but it maintains its shape all day.

u/RandallisAGay · 2 pointsr/beards

I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-79300-400-Color-Complete-Haircutting/dp/B000JNQSIQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375473807&sr=8-1&keywords=WAHL+CLIPPERS

Bought it about years ago and i use it about 2-4 times a month. Its a little tough around the mustache area but i resort to scissors. Best $20 evar!

u/Used_Taco · 2 pointsr/beards

I've also tried Burts Bees. I liked both but I think the honest Amish might've been cheaper.

As far as making your own oil, yes I just use dropper bottles like these . I just mix all the oils together in the bottle and shake, no need to let it sit. You do want to boil the bottles beforehand and let em dry to kill bacteria. Most essential oils have a spout thingy that makes it easy to count drops.

Edit: I also make my own beard shampoo.

If you want to invest time learning to sharpen one, and money in straight razors and good hones. Do it, I think you'd be looking at 100 dollars plus.

Personally I have a shavette, it's sharper than is physically possible to get a straight razor since the blade is thinner, also one with a pack of blades that will last you years just cleaning your cheek line is 13 dollars.

https://www.amazon.com/Equinox-Professional-Straight-Single-Blades/dp/B0118BJ0PA/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1494537095&sr=8-4&keywords=shavette

I use this one-- https://www.amazon.com/Olivia-Garden-Thermal-Anti-Static-Collection/dp/B000CSLJK0.

Same one from this Beardbrand video https://youtu.be/vPnmlDB7_9Y. I think it works better than others because of the bristles. They are closer together and grab the hair better.

u/bebopandhopsteady · 1 pointr/beards

I recently started using this jojoba oil for the same dry skin issue and it has made a huge difference. Just a couple drops in your hand and rub in.

u/BeerWarden · 1 pointr/beards

My normal conditioner for beard and body is Head & Shoulders with Eucalyptus, but based on the recommendation of a fellow redditor I'm also using Suave with Almond and Shea Butter. I do a rotation, two days with the Suave and the third day with the Head&Shoulders. Works really well I have a softer beard and no dandruff.

[Wahl Peanut] (https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Professional-Classic-Clipper-8685/dp/B00011K2BA/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1495807564&sr=1-2&keywords=wahl+peanut), or Sterling Bullet (basically the same thing).

If you keep the blades clean and oiled, it will last you several years easily. Stay away from anything cordless, unless your situation really demands it.

Sorry, I understand that you are trying to get a longer trim.

Go for a scissor and comb, or else a full [hair clipper] (https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Professional-Designer-8355-400-Accessories/dp/B000EDNCJO/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1495808370&sr=1-1&keywords=wahl%2Bdesigner&th=1)

u/Mispelling · 1 pointr/beards

I guess I just don't get the whole "beard" trimmer thing.

I have been using my trusty Wahl clippers for trimming my beard (when necessary), and don't recall ever having a problem. You are talking $100 for a beard trimmer? That's a bit too much for my taste. I can find something similar to what I use for $20 on Amazon. Guard sizes from 1/16" to 1".

Full disclosure: I have touted Wahl clippers before, and no, I have no connection to the business. I've also never used a trimmer designed just for the beard. Also, I guess I'm a bit of a tightwad, so that might factor into my decision.

Whatever you decide, good luck!

u/SquareofDespair · 2 pointsr/beards

This is the exact thing I use. Take your time though, I lost a bit of skin my first few times. Find a video to help explain the proper angle against your skin. You'll thank yourself.

u/GeneseeBeardCo · 1 pointr/beards

I use something similar to this when I used to shave everything clean off.

I simply run the trimmer against the grain of the hair and it left me with a nice level of stubble. My hair also grows extremely fast, so I could tolerate one day of a little too close of a shave in order to have that stubble look the next.

The one I have is old and not sold anymore, but it is a Philips Norelco.

u/NeonSpaceCandy · 4 pointsr/beards

The red lines drawn are not precise, follow the dark growth lines and you should be able to place two fingers between your beard and your adam’s apple.

I use the Wahl beard trimmer (the one barbers use).

For close shave, buy a Harry’s single blade razor

u/AnIrishViking · 1 pointr/beards

Fair enough. If you change your mind this is all you'd really need. 4 oz will last you about a year if not longer.

u/confused_boner · 1 pointr/beards

My girlfriend starting buying sulfate-free shampoos and "natural" conditioners so that she could avoid using harsh shampoos to get them out later. I started using her stuff when mine ran out (I've had the beard itch/druff problem for a while) and surprisingly my beard itch and beardruff problems when away. I'm pretty sure the shampoo's were the cause of the beardruff (they were too effective and removed the oils from the skin as well as the hair) which led to the itching as well.

I always thought the "all-natural" marketing stuff was bs but it makes sense in a way. I would definitely recommend avoiding the shampoo though, especially if you are prone to dry skin.

https://www.amazon.com/Am-Coconut-Cowash-Cleansing-Conditioner/dp/B00641UCY8

https://www.amazon.com/Shea-Moisture-Strengthen-Restore-Conditioner/dp/B00MXD6GBY/ref=sr_1_7_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1537597381&sr=1-7&keywords=shea%2Bmoisture%2Bconditioner&th=1

^ These are the two that we use now. The cowash is a shampoo replacement, but you have to avoid traditional conditioners if you start using it because it's not strong enough to remove them and it will start to build up in your hair, which is why we use the second product as a conditioner since it doesn't contain any heavy duty surfactants.

Conditioner helped me the most. I had that problem between weeks 2-3 too, until I read that conditioner all but eliminates the itch. Picked some up -- (this stuff, specifically) -- and used it every couple of days. Haven't itched since!

+having a faint almond & shea butter smell all day...
