yeah being so young doesnt help. benzos are sort of seen as a last resort. they dont just throw them around, well good doctors dont at least.

when you say different pdoc everytime, are you going to the same building/network, or are you actually switching to an entire new office every time? the latter is called drug seeking. even the way you talk to your doctor may come across as drug seeking. you have to realize how many people they deal with everyday that are trying to finesse them for benzos. especially your age

ssris are not just "antidepressants" they are also used for anxiety, as are other classes of meds. there are several classes used for anxiety (like ssris), as well as other classes of meds used "off label" for anxiety. things like trazodone, vistiril, gabapentin, these are commonly used "off-label" for anxiety and sleep.

so what meds have you been prescribed so far? and how long have you been seeing your pdoc for this actual anxiety problem? it sounds like youre seeing both your primary care doctor as well as a pdoc for this. do they communicate to each other? you should be seeing a specialist (pdoc) not primary care

edit - i see on your thread on /r/drugs that youre on probation. what are you on probation for? do your doctors know youre on probation? im not trying to jump to conclusions here but just reading your posts, and how you talk about being jealous of your friends who got benzos thrown at them, it sounds like you just want benzos and nothing else. youre already convinced that "antidepressants" or anything else wont help you and your mind is made up.

the other guy recommending magnesium is actually a decent idea as well. i take 200-300mg of magnesium glycinate every night (and 100mg in the morning). it actually helps a lot to relax and fall asleep. without a doubt the best/most noticeable supplement ive ever taken, honestly. its certainly not a cure all, but it definitely helps. im in my early 30s and have tried almost everything.

i suggest you get some either way: https://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Absorption-Magnesium-Glycinate/dp/B000BD0RT0/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1521492163&sr=1-4&keywords=magnesium+glycinate&dpID=413m9XIoQtL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

a bonus is that magnesium helps with constipation BIG TIME. i have several digestive "diseases" and constipation is one of the biggest side effects. magnesium fixes that. just dont take too much or you get diarrhea, takes a little trial and error to find the right dose.

No offense taken, I should be a cautionary tale. Long-term benzodiazepine use is linked to severe depression and anxiety. Over the last couple of years my anxiety has been worse than it's ever been in my life. I am so anxious that it is difficult for me to leave the house, talk to people, and even hold down a 15 hour a week job. I am mostly supported by my mother and partner, and am currently trying to get disability. I am very suicidal and think about suicide constantly. This is coming from someone who was accepted into Harvard at 20, but didn't go over a guy, and that's when my life really went downhill.

However, my situation is probably a lot different from yours. Have you been diagnosed with any type of mental illness? From what I've read, I figure you haven't, but I have Borderline Personality Disorder, which in itself is already debilitating. On top of that, research shows that long-term benzo use is harmful to people with BPD and the suicide rate goes way up.

My doctor has ascribed my recent surge in anxiety to my benzo use. He is kind of a hypocrite, however, because he is the one that started prescribing me massive dosages of benzos about six years ago. Every now and then he'll take my dosage down a little, but I usually whine and cry until he brings it back up again. When I tried to commit suicide though, he cut my Valium script in half.

I'm not trying to sound like some tragic case. I don't totally hate my life, but I do feel pretty certain that my anxiety increasing tenfold (it's always been bad, but not like this) is because of the benzos. I get really sick if I don't take any benzos for two days, yet at the same time they don't even really relax me anymore. I have to take a massive amount to actually feel anything, and that's stupid because then I won't have any left and I'll go through withdrawals. I remember back in the day when I took my first Xanax at 1mg. It made me pass out in a restaurant with my head straight in my food. Those were days....

However, it sounds like you are much more aware of benzos and the dangers associated with them than I was, and so is your mom. There are a LOT of people who take benzos responsibly and live normal, happy lives. (The BPD is also a lot to blame for my issues, not just the benzos). My mom is an example of that. For some reason her general practitioner gives her a ton of benzos every month, but she is not even close to an addict. She takes .5mg of Xanax sometimes to help her sleep or when she in a crowded place like a grocery store. She sends the rest to me (I know, not good that she's enabling, but I beg when I run out before my refill is ready). There are literally millions of people who use benzos responsibly, but the danger is that you never know how you will react to them. Since they are highly addictive, all thoughts about responsibility and not wanting to get hooked can be thrown out the window if you find out that all of your problems can kind of drift away for awhile by taking a little pill. Very responsible people can become addicted to addictive drugs.

As far as tapering off, I'm planning on going to rehab within the next year. I'm just trying to plan around it and get the money for it, because it's extremely expensive. Unfortunately, rehab centers tend to be state run and horrible, or privately run and wonderful but outrageously expensive.

Benzos should always be a last resort. As far as other methods, I highly recommend counseling. I know you said it's too expensive, but there are usually ways you can find very cheap/free counseling in your area. I used to even see a Ph.D who was so kind - she had a sliding scale and only charged me $40 for a 1 hour session. I'm sure if you look hard enough you can definitely find something.

Other good ways to help with anxiety - mindfulness skills (like DBT), exercise, a good diet. I have a trick I learned from reading - hand lotion. I use really nice hand lotions when I start to freak out because the sensation helps "ground" me. It sounds weird, but it honestly sometimes helps me more than medication.

I know that you don't have BPD, but I highly recommend this book:

http://www.amazon.com/You-Untangled-Workbook-Practical-Workbooks/dp/0989802108/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1464136347&sr=1-3-fkmr0&keywords=bpd+untangled

It actually helped me a LOT when I was applying myself and really trying to get better. It's filled with ways to help manage and regulate your emotions, and like I said, you do not need to have BPD at all to get help from it. Mindfulness is the core of relieving your anxiety. I believe this book can help anyone a lot with extreme anxiety.

If you do decide to give benzos a chance, I would have your mother dispense the pills to you as needed. My mother did that for awhile last year when I was visiting her, and that actually reduced my intake by a lot. My partner doesn't really have the dedication of doing that though, so I'm in full control of them here, which isn't really good.

Anyway, I hope some of this helped. Feel free to ask anything else!

EDIT: As far as your question on how much to take at first, 2.5mg of Valium (half a pill) sounds like a good starting dose. You could even try a little less. It's usually quite potent the first time you take it, especially if you're small like me.

Dont tell the cops ANYTHING. It doesn't matter how fat he is, they're all trained the same way. Don't tell them where you're coming from or where you're going to, it is none of their business and they are looking for reasonable suspicion to search you. These people are not your friend, they exist to throw you in jail and they have been trained to manipulate you into making confessions, especially ones that are false. The same cops that are trying to elicite a confession are the same ones who tell their own family not to talk to the police and there is a reason for this.

Instead, exercise your fifth amendment right: "I wish to use my fifth amendment right to remain silent" "I don't answer questions" "I want to speak to a lawyer", "Am I free to go?" "No, I do not consent to a patdown or to being searched". If they do find something it will be a lot easier to have the charges dropped. If you don't have anything, don't put the ball in their court and ramble because they will find something in what you said to use against you. In some states you dont even have to provide your drivers license/identification unless you are pulled over while driving. This book is short and it is well worth reading because it tells you not only why you shouldn't talk to them but it also includes story after story of what happened to people who talked because they felt they "had nothing to hide". If a police officer asks if you have something to hide, say "No, I have nothing to prove to you. Am I free to go?"

If you can not find the book or afford it, this video will work as a valid substitute.

Last thing: It is legal for the police to lie to you but it is not legal for you to lie to them, this is from a supreme court ruling. The best course of action is again, say nothing other than here is my license and registration. He was trained to ask you about drugs and medication and that it what was used against you, you gave him probable cause to conduct a field sobriety test because he elicted a confession from you. He would have not been able to do this if you refused any questions. Now you see why it is not in your best interest to talk to them. Even though you were innocent and had nothing to hide, you still got busted.

Go check the sleepaid aisle and the homeopathic aisle and look for herbal remdies and different sleeping pill formulations. I tend to stay away from anti-histamines like benedryl, they give me RLS and make me feel weird.

It's trial and error to find something that works. Melatonin is good, but has odd quirks: like having to lie down immediately after taking it and not sit up again for it to take effect. Also, less-is-more with melatonin, meaning a low dose works better - do some research because there is more you can do to increase it's effectiveness. >>This is what worked best for me after a lot of searching, maybe give it a try

I've been doing ACT for about a year now after 2-3 years of CBT. I've also done group therapy, and for ACT the required book that helped me start to understand/get a little better was called 'The Confidence Gap' by Russ Harris. Here's an amazon link, I definitely recommend getting it:

Get a safe or a lock box. Or do what I do and get both. Then put them in the lock box, then put that in the safe.

Its not guaranteed to stop you but it will slow you down.

These are great especially if you travel.
Plus if you're in your car with it and a cop has suspension they can't get into it with out a warrant.

Edit: sorry for the shitty link. It's the master lock key box, the kind you see out side apartment buildings

Ashwagandha is not a direct GABAA agonist. I swear by 500mg Sensoril Ashwagandha extract while tapering.

Black cumin seed oil is a miracle for diazepine withdrawal. I take one tbsp (three teaspoons) twice daily, religiously.

  • fiber supplement and multivitamin .
I mean don't take them all at once until you start getting used to it, and don't take them on a empty stomach because vitamins can be a little harsh .

other than that, its up to you how you want to cut down, but realistically other than what ive told to you there is no other way to reduce your tolerance or doseages.
