> I got the sense "academia" had a lot to do with what was deemed "Art". I think art is very subjective and I get the feeling that a lot of "high art" was promoted as such by a select few,

It still is.

> Is there any documentary about her life?

I collect books, especially older ones, on African American experience especially as pertaining to jazz history. I was lucky enough to buy

She was on the vanguard of so much that was right.

I mean, I could have gone on about her civil rights work, but that pales in comparsion to the fact that her dancing in Paris made a decisive statement about the nature of art and changed 20th century culture and worldview forever.

> I have 15 minutes before my shuttle is here to whisk me off to the airport but I will look into this more when I get back home. I want to know more about her life and events surrounding her at the time.

Well, you had colonial Europe, right? France's colonies were all in Africa, and they considered people who were black subhuman. In fact, even up until the 70s and perhaps into the 80s this was considered OK

I cannot begin to express how truly amazing it was for her to end up the Cream of Society. The fact that high ranking Nazi officials WELCOMED her as an honored guest is less mindblowing in hindsight.

Amazon is a surprisingly great resource. I bought this unit and it held up for a year.

Lets see, if you are in the mood for something spicy go for anything by Zane. I recommend "The Sex Chronicles" The book explores every aspect of sexuality—from the romantic to the downright freaky—from the female point of view.

For a fun read try The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah. I couldn't put it down!

Enjoy!

I would wait about a week before putting them up. To help alleviate the pain I personally apply a few products to my scalp:

I apply aloe vera and let that dry followed by Stay Soft Fro. Then I follow-up with shea butter after letting the spray sit for a minute or two.

I don't think the braids will feel less heavy but you'll get used to it over time.

I would recommend XL Hair Ties or Silk Scrunchies. If your natural hair isn't in the ponytail then you can use a regular scrunchie.

^(side note: I wasn't able to find a pic of a real regula ol' scrunchy for the life of me)

sure but i live in the UK so i don't really know if you'll be able to get the ones I use. Here is the cleansing conditioner. You could use it more often than shampoo to prevent build up and still leave your hair soft. Wen is good but pricey. but I found it on the US amazon

i'm sorry for your experience. i know black women who refuse to date outside of their race. i don't agree with them, but i do understand.

it's more than just a personal preference. in a country with a history of institutionalized racism -- that still exists today, by the way -- blacks who refuse interracial dating view it through political lenses. think about it: from the very first black person brought to this country in chains to the new Jim Crow to be black in America is to have the odds stacked against your survival. And yes, Barack and Michelle Obama are in the White House -- a huge leap of progress -- but this doesn't change facts on the ground for the majority of blacks in this country.

Some blacks can't separate the baggage of the past and the present from the choices they make in their own lives. They prefer black-on-black dating out of a sense of loyalty, unity and preservation of a culture / group that has always been a hunted quarry.

I got a lacefront wig for the curly. It's this one.

And I used to use this one, which isn't a lacefront.

And this is my straight one which looks retarded on the picture but handy since it's long and has long bangs, which makes it good to play around with cutting it.
