I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I recommend "Drive: The Story of My Life" by Larry Bird. However I would also check out "Then Russell Said to Bird..." because it covers stories from most of the Celtics era including the time period you're interested in. I haven't read that one yet, so I would check out the description before hand.

My father wasn't even from New England or around it - he just grew up watching Larry and loved the celtics.

I've gotten the same way and I still enjoy watching old tapes like these that my dad bought.

He even recorded games onto old VHS tapes that still work today.

Sitting behind home plate with Gil and the rest of the ComputerLand gang and trying the old Joe Girard trick of tossing up a handful of business cards when everyone jumped up to cheer a home run. Believe it or not I did actually get a call and a sales prospect from someone who picked up one of my cards! (Who said these crazy sales techniques don’t work?)...

Also, here is a list of Celtics related books that I found on the team website: http://www.nba.com/celtics/history/publications.html

The NBA already produces an official documentary for every championship team after the season. Here is the 08 Celtics one. I don't think 30 for 30 documentaries are interesting if it's just about one championship season. It must have some kind of an arch or focused on a particular era. A "New Big Three" documentary about that whole era would be more interesting, and the later ramification it had on forming superteams in the NBA. It has a lot more ups and downs than just the one 08 season. KG's injury, Game 7 in the '10 Finals, Ray Allen leaving, Rondo ascending, 4 C's in the all-star game, Lebron's Game 6 in '12, Ray Allen leaving, Rondo's injury, the eventual dismantling of the team in the Nets trade. It's hell of a story arch, more intersting than just that one season.
