In a stocking? Toy blocks or the like, unwrapped and placed into the sock individually. I wouldn't be thinking in terms of a stocking because many items won't fit.

With my kids, I didn't give much the first couple Christmases because I looked at the lifespan of the toys. Like, if It's October and my kid could handle this toy today, then by waiting until Christmas I'm knocking two months off the usefulness of a toy that may only be played with for 12 months (or whatever).

Books are always a good choice. Everywhere Babies was our favorite, with my kids wanting it read to them through at least age 3 because it's all about how parents love their kids. And the rhyming is well done. The linked version is a larger format board book. When I tossed out our well-deteriorated copy years later, my wife made me buy another one for herself. Here's a read-through.

Edit: My wife saw me with the video open and began reciting the first several pages to me.

I'm psyched for this. It looks like a great new twist on A Christmas Carol. If you are interested in the different film adaptations of the story over the years, I highly recommend Fred Guida's book.

I just saw this one in a store and it looked pretty cute. Also, the music stops when you press the button again, which is, as any parent knows, a huge bonus!

My all time favourties are the Daniel Handler/Lemony Snicket books. The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming was the first, followed by The Lump Of Coal.

For the classic, a beautifully illustrated version of Twas The Night Before Christmas is a must, as is How The Grinch Stole Christmas, of course. :)

The Story of Santa Claus.
This is an adorable book about Santa's childhood/growing up to be Santa. Not religious at all and my personal favorite from my childhood. It's still available on Amazon. I ended up buying it as an adult for my own future kids. 10/10!

This! So much this. Everything goes on sale Dec 26th for around half to 80% off...and it's only the second day of Christmas!

If you have any outside lights, there is a cheap adapter to turn those into outlets for additional lights as well. Very useful if you don't have a regular outside outlet.

If you believe in the religious aspects of Christmas, I’d recommend the The Santa Club by Kelly Moss. It does a really good job at explaining who St. Nicholas was and how there are now millions of Santa’s.

Ok - so what I have is this guy:
Leviton 1403 Two Outlet Socket Adapter, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001F71O70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_VsAxwbXJCQ4TB

You screw it into your light socket and then you have outlets - but it's just two pronged. Which is fine for Christmas lights but not fine for extension cords.

Check out this book on Hygge, I bought it after Chrismtas last year to get me out of the Christmas blues and it's helped a lot! It reminds me to have little cosy times, even in the heat of summer! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Little-Book-Hygge-Danish-Penguin/dp/0241283914

If you have a door light or lamp post, you can take out the bulb, screw this in, and instant outlet.

My parents do this every year. Just don't go crazy and put too many lights going to this thing. But especially with the low power LED lights, you can string quite a bit up to this thing.
