Agree completely on Design of Everyday Things and 100 Things Every Designer Needs. They're both top tier books.

I also enjoy Don't Make Me Think, which is a web design book and has a lot of stuff that doesn't apply to touchpanels, but it espouses a method of looking at your design that I have found very useful for touchpanel design as well.

I use a Victoria Tourist. Used to have a Swissgear Ibex. If you don't fly a lot, the Ibex is great, but a little bulky (and pretty expensive). The VT is really nice, lots of padding, side compartments are a little annoying though.

So just for fun I decided to try this on my TSW-760 and it does work without a controller as others have commented. Essentially, I created a basic VTPro project that contains a single button that uses a special reserved join number to launch the onboard Sonos app. Once the Sonos app launched it connected to my Sonos system and worked fine with no connection to a control system.

If you still really want to pursue this path I am happy to share the project binary that you would need to load to the TSW panel. As others have noted, it's not the best use of a $1000+ touch controller, but deals can be had on e-bay. A basic PoE power injector can be had for cheap and just needs to be installed inline with your regular home router to power the touch screen.

Hey Guys,
I just got a clone to work! Been stressing about this for a while.
First thing to note is that new firmware supposedly reduces writes to the internal memory card, and should extend the life of the mc3 processor significantly, and that early failures are probably because of writing "too frequently" to the sd card which may be caused by the crestron programmer who programmed the system (me).

I can confirm that the program called "win32diskimager-1.0.0-install.exe" works. I got it off of sourceforge, and was able to successfully clone the internal sd card of a pmc3 to an .img file. (when you hook it up to your pc it will tell you you need to format the card. DON'T DO IT. CLICK NO. I used the same program to write the image to this sd card:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VOU91U/ref=ya_st_dp_summary?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The new card is slightly smaller than the orig. one, so the program complains but gives you the option to go ahead, and that worked for me. I
was able to boot the pmc3 and load the system info tool on a cloned card. Note that the serial number comes with the image, so ideally you would want to clone the sd card while it was good as a preemptive measure. Note, I'm sure this voids the warranty, and is surely has the potential to screw up your hardware worse than it was to begin with.
I look at this as a save crestron face option since end users don't seem to like paying for randomly failing electronics, and at best have to pay labor for re-loading and re-acquiring all infinet devices.

not tied directly to touch panels, but i found the following books help my touch panels look less like an engineer designed them.

Design of everyday things

100 Things Every Designer Needs to Know About People

this one provided insight sticky design, and what makes some apps stand out, it a world of apps it dose hurt to see what is driving some mobile platform/ product development.

Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products

infocomm published the dashboard for controls, but it is quiet dated, and as pointed out below its counter any kind of modern ui design principal.

Crestron actually used some Eyoyo monitors at one of the trainings I attended. Small (10in and 12 in models), 1920x1080, HDMI connection, and fairly cheap. I do not have any experience with these outside of that class but I am planning on getting one for a small test monitor / 2nd laptop screen.
