As for the all in one edition I say it's a great value. If you travel a lot or just want a great all in one package I highly recommend it. Not sure if you're in America but here is the link for it on Amazon:

dunno bout the anime, but I own multiple of Drama Light's pencil for this very reason lmao. I think it looks nicer, it's fairly cheap on Amazon, only like $10

Watari is kind of a minor character. It's possible she likes him, but to be honest there isn't really much character development for him.
I think your best approach might be to tell her that you fancy watching Death Note, and you want to hear her opinion of it, what she thinks of the characters, etc. This might give you some clues.
What kind of time frame are you working with?
Personally, I think the quintessential Death Note gift is the prop notebook.
I dont recall how different it looked in the netflix version, aside from it beig a nicer leatherbound one than in the animes, but there are plenty for sale:

Unfortunately, the DVD set isn't on sale; it's about its usual price. Still, $25 is not bad.
I bought this version a while ago! For sure would recommend it. It's definitely the cheapest option.
